Have a 2017 Honda Pilot touring with 39k miles. Usually the car goes into accessory mode when the auto idle stop kicks in but a couple of months ago something new started- I experienced a total stall for the first time, and it has happened 3 more times since. The car turned completely off, but it did not restart automatically. The dashboard was lit up with problems. I put the car in park and frantically tried to restart it as I was on a highway in traffic. Once it was restarted, I disabled auto idle stop and I've been disabling it ever since. However, this is a manual fix and is not always something one remembers to do, especially since we have a new 16-year-old driver entering the fray in our home soon. After researching this extensively online, there appears to be a knee-jerk reaction from Honda to replace the batteries in these affected vehicles, but it is not stopping the issue, according to multiple accounts. The NHTSA has many documented cases of this and it is an obvious safety issue, but no recall is yet in place. Called Honda USA customer service at 9:30 am today and verified there are no recalls regarding this problem and if the car is out of warranty that there would be no financial relief for necessary parts/labor related to this issue.

Purchased the new 2019 Honda Pilot elite at around 3,000 miles. While driving around 25-30 miles per hour speed on paved roads, sometimes not all the time. The car downshifting and stalling for a few seconds before being able to accelerate again. This happen while driving on a nice sunny day with no loose gravel or rain, in a 4 way intersection making a left turn on green which made the car stalled and wasn't able to accelerate for a good 1 to 2 second. Good thing there wasn't any other vehicle that is near by. This can cause an accident and body injury! this happen during turns and straight driving. I've discuss this every time I go and get the car maintenance at the Honda dealership but they cannot duplicate the problem I've had encounter. The car as of now has 15,651 miles and downshifting and stalling comes and goes whenever it wants to its not contestant. For a new car over $50k plus not including taxes, its extremely dangerous to me and anyone who is driving or pedestrian walking near by!.

My Honda Pilot will stall out when coming out of the auto start/stop feature at an intersection. This problem started happening in July 2019 after having the transmission double replaced. This problem has now happened four different times and extremely dangerous for my wife and kids who are left stranded at an intersection. My wife has to attempt to recycle the power to the Pilot by holding down the power button to the Pilot. My wife has captured multiple videos of the dash with all the error messages popping up after it has died.

Car will stall when stopped with the auto-engine idle engaged. First started with radio cutting out when engine was restarting. Progressed to stalling when engine idle is engaged and foot is taken off the brake - car will jolt and then stall. It switched to neutral and must be put back in park and the start button pressed multiple times to get it to restart - can take a few minutes. Very dangerous at busy intersections. Car was checked by dealer and found no problems. Next day the collision mitigation system problem light came on permanently and car stalled at lights twice more. Car is back at the dealer now but they still can't find anything wrong.
I have a 2016 touring Pilot with just over 38,000 miles. Since about 25,000 miles I have felt that there was an odd hesitation with the auto-off feature that I'd not noticed during the initial period of ownership. The issue escalated to the point which it would actually stall out at an intersection and the vehicle would not turn back on for a few minutes. The dealership replaced the battery and said that they could see the error and that there was an issue caused by the battery. A few months later the issue started to happen again and stalled for my wife again with our kids in the car at a busy intersection. The car went back into the dealership and they have now had it for close to 6 weeks with little to no update as to what is going on. . Read more...
The vehicle would "stall out" at a stop light or stop sign when I was in "auto idle-stop" and pressed on the gas. I first noticed that the auto idle-stop was hesitating when it would start up. I also noticed that the radio would "cut out". After that, the vehicle would just stall out and I would have to push park, put my foot on the brake and then push start. This has happened several times.

Auto idle stop doesn't restart. It stalls often depending on the length of the idle. It has been slowing progressing to unreliable. It stops entirely, often in traffic and then you have to put car in park, restart engine and then put in drive and go again. By this time traffic is already moving around you. Very dangerous and scary on freeway and at intersections. Had the battery checked at auto store, take in for regular maintenance - it tested strong but needed a "charge" should be recharging when running and on freeway.
The first incident was on oct 7, 2018. We were at a stop light with the engine idle option enabled. When the light turned green and the brake was released, the vehicle should have started back up, but instead, it stalled. After the 2nd time it occurred, we started to disable the engine idle feature as soon as we start the car. We have forgotten a few times and the vehicle stalling has happened at least 3 additional times. All being at red lights with the brake depressed. When the foot is removed from the brake, the vehicle jerks slightly and then stalls. Once on Nov. 1, 2018 and again most recently on Jan. 6, 2018. Luckily, no one has been injured yet. It has been serviced regularly at the dealership directly and received all maintenance recommended. The most recent service, they were unable to duplicate the error or identify the issue.
Vehicle will stall while driving and then fail to start unless left off from 15 to 30 minutes vehicle will periodically fail to start. This happened driving on the expressway and was able to drift over to shoulder while avoiding being run into. The last instance a police officer kindly helped push the vehicle off a busy city street as so I could wait for a tow to the dealership again. They continue to say they cannot replicate the problem and have replaced multiple and expensive parts but to no avail.

Honda Pilot 2016 model with 30000 miles has stalled on highway interstate suddenly within 2 min of signalling messages of engine temperature too hot, transmission system problem, emission system problem etc. . . And went into neutral mode with failure of brakes. Car would not respond to brakes as it went to neutral state. Also noticed a burning or gasoline smell inside the car . I had to apply parking brake to stop the vehicle from moving on highway which could have led to a major crash. As I was not on the speeding lanes, things were not worse. I had to call 911 and they helped me move my car to a shoulder and later towed to Honda dealership. This was the second time happening for the same issue where earlier it happened on a local road. The same dealer kept the car for a week and returned the car saying its fixed. Within 30 min of driving into the highway, it stalled again this time the situation being on highway. The car is now returned to same dealer who fixed first time and is under investigation.
Vehicle randomly does not automatically restart after auto idle stop engages when in stop-go traffic on freeway or when stopped at intersection, resulting in a stalled vehicle in the middle of freeway or intersection. Attempts to manually restart the vehicle generally successful after frantically (or slowly!) pushing the start-stop button several times. Video documenting issue available at https://1drv. Ms/v/s!aqy6pdpsaknnnn5fxrz2ngstmnd0cg (additional videos available). Issue ongoing since ~ October 2018. Dealer has replaced battery & engine start-stop button to no avail.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when attempting to drive. Also, while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was not able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. While in traffic, the vehicle restarted independently after ten minutes and was able to drive normally. The vehicle was taken to Honda cars of katy (21001 katy fwy, katy, TX 77450) where it was diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 08934725. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000.
This vehicle stalls when the brake is depressed. The engine should restart when your foot comes off the brake. It does not restart. In order to restart the engine, the vehicle has to be put in park position, put foot back on brake, & hold the start button until the vehicle restarts. This is a serious safety issue in traffic.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Honda Pilot. While driving approximately 25 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. Also, the vehicle started to decelerate, the steering and braking ability seized, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted, but the lost of acceleration continued. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the camshaft position sensor failed and needed replacement. The contact stated that the vehicle was currently being repaired. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. Bp.

The car continually stalls at red lights and other full stops after the "auto-shutoff" engages. The car fails to restart and results in dangerous situations in high traffic areas in the city. The car can not be moved easily because it becomes completely unresponsive, even disabling the flashers. It has happened repeatedly.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. While the vehicle was stationary and while driving various speeds, the "auto idle disabler" feature engaged on several occasions. The vehicle stalled without warning after the brake pedal was depressed at a stop light. Three weeks later, while driving approximately 15 mph on the freeway, the "auto idle disabler" feature engaged again while in heavy traffic and the vehicle stalled. The contact shifted the gear into park, disabled the power, and restarted the vehicle. In addition, while the vehicle was stationary, all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. While driving 55 mph, on another occasion, the vehicle failed to shift gears properly and the rpms rapidly increased to 5,000. Also, the reverse gear shifter became inoperative and the gears would not shift while driving 55 mph. Big star Honda (11200 gulf freeway, houston, texas 77034) could not diagnose and duplicate the failures. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
The car stalls intermittently when auto idle stop is engaged and car is stationary. Instead of the engine starting up again after take foot off the brake and press the gas pedal, the car stalls completely and have to put the car in park, press the brake pedal and push the start button to get it on again. Sometimes have to try several times before car restarts. Dealer has been unable to find anything or replicate problem. First reported to dealer oct. 2017, did software update, but happened again June and July.
Moving key back and forth in driver's door lock will result in engine repeatedly turning over, even with no key in ignition. Engine doesn't actually start but will crank by itself. Car does not have any type of remote start installed. . Read more...

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Honda Pilot. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. Also, the brake pedal was applied, but failed to respond. The contact stated that it was difficult to keep the vehicle aligned while driving. The vehicle was taken to scott Honda of west chester (706 autopark blvd, west chester, PA 19382, (610) 692-6000). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65.
We have had multiple, ongoing problems with our 2016 Honda Pilot elite since early on in our ownership. When I try to go after coming to a stop, the car tries to stall and has stalled several times in the middle of the road. When it stalls, it has switched itself to neutral and for several minutes, it will not let me do anything to try to get the car going again such as change gears, start the car, etc. As I try to get it going, it will tell me that I need to start the engine to change the gear back to drive but will not do anything when I press the start button. Further, there are several issues with the infotainment system: the back up camera goes black, the entire system reboots while driving, the audio screen freezes and audio ceases while driving, the entire screen goes black except the time line on top while driving, and the navigation screen blacks out while driving. Despite providing video and photographic evidence of the issues, Honda kept saying they couldn't replicate it and thus couldn't test it, but when I was able to bring it to them with the screen frozen, they said there were no tests they could run. They finally tried replacing the infotainment system, but the issues returned. These issues are on top of the fact that they replaced the dvd player because it was looping. We feel we have received a lemon and that these issues cause a hazard during what should be normal operation of our vehicle.
The truck hesitates in order to get it to move you have to take foot off the gas pedal. Happens a lot when driving. Sometimes it stalls. . . . Driver side rear body mount is rusted out.
~tl the contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle lunged forward and the contact smelled fumes. Also, the vehicle stalled while driving various speeds. The contact pulled over and it took numerous attempts to restart the vehicle. While driving various speeds, a piece of the fender on the front driver and passenger sides fractured and struck a person in the head. All the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was diagnosed and repaired by multiple dealers and independent mechanics and the catalytic converter was replaced four times and two injectors were installed; however, the failures continued. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 83,000. The VIN was invalid.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and was able to be restarted. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Turned on the car and backed out of my driveway, which is sloped so it does not require any acceleration. Shifted into gear on the street and began to roll forward. Applied pressure to the accelerator and noticed that the car was not responding at all - engine was not revving, car was not moving forward despite flooring the gas pedal. Stopped and shifted into reverse and had the same problem. Simultaneously, several warning lights appeared including vehicle stability control among others. Eventually had to leave the car disabled on the side of the road and have it towed to a local Honda dealer, where they were unable to replicate the problem. After 3 days, they "reset all the computers" and told me the car was fixed. Same problem occurred 2. 5 wks later. Again, dealer could not replicate the problem. However, they replaced the "box" which the accelerator connects to and told me the problem should be fixed. 3 days after returning the car to me, the same incident occurred a 3rd time. This time the vehicle fluids were also overheating. I left the car running until a Honda technician could come and take a look and see the problem in action. Unfortunately, he shut the car off upon arrival and then was not able to recreate the problem. Honda has now had my vehicle for 8 days with no progress. Their only suggestion is to uninstall the remote starter which came with the car when I purchased it new. They have no evidence that the remote starter is causing the problem and have not offered to compensate me in any way for its removal. Car is only 1. 5 yrs old.

I have had this Pilot for a year and its performance has been going downhill. When the eco engages, the car starts to shudder and sound like it is going to stall. I need to press on the gas to get the car going again. This happens at any mph as it occurs when the eco light turns on. The dealership is aware of this issue and states its a flaw of the 2013 Pilot and cannot be fixed. They also call it normal. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and I do not consider it normal for the car I am driving to sound like it is going to turn off. Piazza Honda of limerick states they can hook this car up to a computer to ensure that there is no problem but told me over the phone that it was a know issue, basically telling me I am wasting my time. This issue should be fixed, or recalled as it is unsafe.
My vehicle vibrates when I am driving. It does not behave this way all the time. However, when the vehicle vibrates, it seems as though it wants to shut off. This has been happening frequently since I purchased my vehicle. It usually happens when I slow down to make a turn or while I am cruising at highway speed. When this happen, the eco light on my dash goes on and on. . . The vibration seems like I am driving a manual transmission vehicle, and failed to shift to the appropriate gear. I am not sure if it is the vcm in my vehicle being faulty. I have taken my vehicle to the dealer on 3 separate occasions and they mechanic tells me it is normal. This is not normal. I am afraid my vehicle may stall in traffic and cause accident. The other issue I am having is I occasionally smell a strong gasoline fumes in my vehicle cabin when I am driving. It seems the gasoline fume is entering my vehicle from the engine. Can't tell where it is coming from. Perhaps through the ac vent.

My Honda Pilot stalled without any warning and without any engine lights appearing while driving on two way side roads and entering a highway. Emergency brake release handle was not working or releasing the brake appropriately same day. Honda can't replicate the issue so they say the car is to go with me. No explanation for incident. Manufacturer had them put something in the computer to read 15 second prior to and after a stall. This is an unsafe vehicle to drive for me, my family and anyone around me if it is undiagnosed and unexpected. Power steering and brakes lost so risks are high. I run the risk of causing an accident, injury, and/or death to anyone in the car or others. I filed a complaint with Honda, [xxx] case # [xxx] without resolution and wastold to pick the car up from the dealership or I be charged a fee. The car was at bernardi Honda in natick and they did all they could to replicate and work with Honda, I was told by them to pick the car up or be charged a fee. They are aware that the manufacturer is involved. I went to pick the car up on Saturday November 2, and discovered the emergency brake release cord is still broken and there were scratches on my car. I left it there so they could order parts and fix scratches. Please assist if able. I read about two recalls by Honda for the Pilot and odyssey regarding unexpected braking and how you assisted! thanks. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I own a 2003 Honda Pilot with 57,000 miles on it. After taking it to a Honda specialist for scheduled service, the technician reported that the front engine mount & side engine mount are both broken, with a repair estimate of $503. 30. The vehicle has not been in a collision, has had all its scheduled services and in no way should the engine mounts be broken. This is a major issue and Honda should be looking into repair as it seems to not have been properly installed to be broken with such few miles.
The contact owns a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost acceleration power. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic testing. The test result did not identify a defect in the vehicle. The dealer changed the main computer but that did not remedy the stalling issue. The failure was reported to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 20,800.
When I am driving my Honda Pilot, as it is shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear, the entire car starts to shudder and seems to be fighting a stall.
The transmission shakes and stutters as if it is stalling at speeds of 35 to 50 miles an hour. It will not go in reverse or forward. Engine starts but it will not go.

When accelerating the vehicle begins to shudder, jerk and lose power while accelerating from 0-40mph. Sterring wheel begins to shake, acceleration seems to stall. At higher speeds on freeway there is some shuddering but not as noticable. Braking or reducing speed does not immediately stop the shuddering. Its almost predictable at low speeds. Loss of power during acceleration feels as if the vehicle could stall especially when turning left with on coming traffic approaching.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that when accelerating the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to find a failure. The transmission fluid and oil were changed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 10. Sr.
2012 Honda Pilot - does not start consistently. Consistently has a rough start, and often stalls. Within days of owning my brand new 2012 Honda Pilot, the car stalled when I attempted to start it in my garage. I immediately brought the car into the dealership. The dealer's service department could not find a problem. They kept the car for the day, then reported to me that Honda of America is aware of the problem and trying to fix it. They promised to keep me posted on the status of the Honda of America engineers progress on the issue. Six weeks went by, and the problem persisted with intermittent calls from my local service manager. I was told not to bother to bring it in for service each time it stalled because they were waiting for a recall/fix from corporate. After six weeks, multiple stalls, which were all reported to my dealer as requested, I was then advised, by my dealer to contact Honda of America myself get some results. I spoke with Honda of amercia's nice, but useless customer service representative for two weeks, and got fed up with her inability to do anything other than agree that my problem was unacceptable. Then I called the gm of the dealership, explained my frustration & continued problems with my brand new Honda Pilot. He claimed to not have heard of my problem before, and quickly agreed to fulfilled my request to trade my vehicle in for a different car, same model - 2012 Honda Pilot in the hopes that my car was a lemon. Within less than 24 hours of owning this second 2012 Honda Pilot, my new car stalled. I have recently been on youtube and discovered that this is a common problem with the 2012 Honda Pilots, and has also been reported with some 2011 Honda Pilots. This is unacceptable for a new car to be so unreliable.
Engine has a fine vibration around 35-45 miles that disappears with either acceleration or deceleration. The vibration can be felt not only by the driver but also the passengers, enough to shake a bobblehead on the console. It seems that it is associated with the transmission as if the transmission is not shifting and stalling. As soon as it shifts or the speed changes it disappears. Another issue is a occasional very hard downshifting by the transmission, hard enough to move everyone in the vehicle. The symptoms were present they day the vehicle was delivered and checked by the dealer and reported no issues. Now the vehicle is about 11,000 miles and still with the same issues.
