The engine failed in July of 2023. The vehicle was being driven on the freeway and lost complete power. New driver was behind the wheel at night going approximately 70 mph and no warning lights came on until vehicle lost power. Lights and ringing sounds then occured. Vehcile towed to dealership. Confirmed engine seized and could not confirm as to why this occured. Vehicle had coolant, gas and oil. No signs of damage in other parts. Recommendation was to replace enginge. Honda corporation refused to assist with replacing engine. November 12, 2023 recall 23v751000 was issued for engines indicating rod bearing may wear and seize the engine for certain 2016 Honda Pilots. My vehicle was not included in this recall and Honda refuses to assist with reimbursement as states in the recall.

I've taken my vehicle in 4 times now for electrical issues and the sensors randomly going off. Today while driving, I got a notification of an engine system problem as well as an emissions failure and awd failure. I purchased my vehicle brand new from the dealership and this will now be the 5th time going in for electrical issues and now whatever this engine failure is. The dealership is closed right now so I do not have a full diagnosis but the warning on the screen tells me to limit driving and keep the car off due to potential fire. This should absolutely be investigated.

Engine mil illuminated. Code p3400 indicated through obd. No low oil pressure indication prior to mil, could lead to engine failure. Replaced both front and rear rocker arm oil switches.

Two separate incidents in sacramento, CA where we experienced engine failure with our 2016 Honda pilate elite. The first incident occurred in may 2016 on a busy city street with our three young children in the car. While in motion, the car essentially shut down with the display screen showing a series of warnings indicating numerous system failures. There was no engine power but luckily I was able to coast the vehicle to a nearby parking lot. The dealer indicated there was no problem, just a computer glitch, and the only repair necessary was to reset the computer/software. The second incident occurred last week, only this time while driving on the freeway. We completely lost all engine power but luckily I was in the right lane and I was able to coast to the side and pull over on the shoulder. If I had been in the fast or middle lane with little opportunity to move over, there could have been a serious collision. Similar to the first incident, we were unable to start the car with the warning lights showing various system failures. We had the car towed to the same dealer who initially indicated they would just reboot the software again. So we pressed upon them to do a more thorough diagnosis since this is the second time its happened. They agreed to keep the vehicle and seek to identify the root cause of the problem. At this point no diagnosis has been made. We would have never expected this from a near brand new (purchased in December 2015 and currently has only 9,200 miles) Pilot elite loaded with safety and technology features. Again we experienced two separate incidents where the car immediately shut down while in motion with the most recent occurring on the freeway. And both times our three young children were in the vehicle. This is a huge safety risk and I certainly hope Honda does its due diligence in diagnosing and addressing this issue.
Letter from constituent regarding Honda's 2013 Pilot recall (NHTSA recall 13v-382/campaign#jb5/service bulletin #13-075); he has been unable to correct the problem from american Honda motor CO. Or university motors; requesting assistance from NHTSA. The consumer stated he would like to have the long block and short block replaced. He stated he talked to three different automotive mechanics, and it was in their opinion that replacing only the short block of the engine was not a trustworthy fix. The short block repair performed under non-factory conditions, which could lead to contamination of the engine, that would cause serious issues and engine failure in the future. The consumer stated the dealer would not return his calls. Also, the consumer was not getting the proper gas mileage as advertised. The vehicle was rated between 16 and 17 mpg, and he was getting 13 mpg. The vehicle rolled backward on a slight incline, while in drive, there was a vibration/shudder coming through the vehicle, when maintaining a constant speed.
From a dead stop or slow roll, the engine fails to respond immediately to the accelerator pedal. There is a slight delay from the pressing of the accelerator to the engine responding, creating a very dangerous situation when trying to clear intersections, turning on to a highway, turning from a blind curve and many other situations. I have experienced several near crashes. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership for a computer update but the problem has not been corrected, leaving the vehicle in an unsafe condition.
