Rearview System Braking Problems of Honda Pilot

My 2022 Honda Pilot failed to engage drive after reversing, despite the drive button being pressed. This resulted in an unintended backward motion & a collision with another vehicle. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned…? the electronic transmission shift-by-wire system (push-button shifter) failed to respond to a gear change request. Additionally, related electrical systems including the dashboard infotainment system & the integrated usb charging ports have malfunctioned. The vehicle & its components are available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the vehicle experienced unintended motion. While attempting to move forward in a parking lot, the vehicle remained in reverse despite selecting drive. This failure led to a low-speed collision with a truck’s tow hitch. This defect creates a high risk of crashes, injuries to pedestrians, or property damage because the vehicle does not move in the direction the driver has selected. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the vehicle was previously serviced at a Honda dealership for a radio/infotainment recall. Since that service, the transmission has failed to engage drive multiple times at random. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer…? the vehicle was inspected during the initial recall fix. And brought back because after the fix because the charging port stopped working/continued screen glitches. Following the recent collision, it is awaiting further inspection by a Honda dealership to determine the extent of the mechanical failure. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages prior…? symptoms began after the recall fix & included intermittent electronic failures of the charging ports/screen. There were no specific transmission warning lights prior to the gear selection failure; however, the persistent electrical issues in the dash area suggested a systemic electronic malfunction.

The backup camera suddenly stopped working properly the image and colors are distorted.

The backup camera feeds to the infotainment screen integrated into the radio. This screen intermittently fails to illuminate and does not allow the backup camera feed to be be visible rendering the backup camera inoperable.

The infotainment center goes out, the screen reads "network communication lost" "most net off". This occurs while using the rearview camera, causing a safety issue. This is a known Honda issue, bulletin 20-049, 20-058, a19-030b. Replacement of fakra connectors, most bus wiring harness (parts 39817-tjb-aco housing or 39165-tg7 cords) or the entire floor harness. . Vehicle has 79,000 miles.

The rear camera display is distorted and shows a huge amount of colors making it impossible to view any objects behind the car and causing a safety hazard that could result in backing over a child or other item.

The car is prefect everything is great.

The rear camera suddenly has bright wonky colors making it difficult to see what is behind you.

The backup camera, parking sensors, and automatic braking system failed to function properly on my 2025 Honda Pilot touring during two separate incidents, both resulting in collisions with stationary objects (trees). In both cases, the rearview camera displayed only the ground, and the audible alerts and automatic braking system did not activate, despite all safety features being enabled and set to maximum sensitivity. I specifically purchased this vehicle for its advertised safety systems, which did not engage or warn me in either instance. This malfunction put my safety and the safety of others at risk, especially in residential or pedestrian areas. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer or a dealership, but the damage is available for inspection upon request. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to or during the failures.

Infotainment system doesn't work, including maps, and backup camera. I have read this is a common problem, but Honda isn't doing anything about it.

The sensors stopped working when the infotainment screen went out. It goes out all the time. Honda knows of this issue but does nothing to repair.

My Honda Pilot has a previous recall for the infotainment system. Recall # 20v439000 or Honda recall # t89. I purchased this vehicle used in June 2024 with the knowledge this recall had been repaired. After driving the vehicle for a short time, the infotainment system started having an issue again. We have taken the vehicle to the dealership 3 more times to get this corrected, but it is still an ongoing issue. This infotainment system recall impacts instrument panel control module software which makes this a safety issue. I am submitting this form to create a formal complaint for lack of repair after multiple attempts on a recall.

Most net off recall was repaired on 9/21/24. On all of the following dates, the same issue, network communication lost and most net off would appear on the screen with it rebooting itself anywhere between 5 minutes and 1 hour. Dates are: 10/18/24, 1/16/25, 1/17/25, 1/29/25, 1/30/25 on two occasions, 2/7/25, 2/10/25, 2/12/25, 2/17/25, 2/18/25, and 2/28/25. Finally on 4/9/25, the same situation occurred without any reboot and now the network screen does not work at all. I am unable to use handsfree phones but more importantly, the backup camera and approaching vehicle notification no longer works due to this screen not working.

Rearview camera image is blurry and rainbow colored (mainly purple and green). This is unsafe because I cannot see clearly out of my camera. Yes. We have had it in the shop for oil changes, tire rotation etc, where they could see problems with the camera image as well. We did not pursue them to fix at this time, because noticed there was a recall out for the rear camera in 2019 Pilots. Wondering why our 2019 Pilot does not show up for a camera recall? no. Also I see many other people have written in about this same problem with the same year and model Honda Pilot. Wondering why there isnt a recall on this?. . . . This is disappointing.

Overblown colorful backup camera image. Backup camera stopped working properly on 2019 Honda Pilot elite SUV. Image has very bright red yellow and purple colors (like night vision) and the rear image is no longer legible. This is now a safety hazard as the driver is unable to view people, vehicles, and other obstructions while backing up the SUV. Need Honda to cover the repair and replacement of the backup camera under warranty. This appears to be a widespread issue for 2019 models that Honda dealers are not covering free of charge based on forum threads: [xxx] please investigate immediately and have Honda cover this as a recall before this becomes a widespread issue affecting thousands of cars with non-functional backup cameras. The 2019 Honda Pilot is receiving a camera system failure regarding the rear camera. The info screen shows a black screen where once the rear camera image was. I am putting myself, pedestrians, and other motorists at risk by not being able to have a clear view when driving the car in reverse. The Honda dealership confirmed the problem, telling me I needed to replace the camera and that this issue was not part of the current recall for this car regarding the rear camera. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others regarding my specific vehicle. There was no warning or anything prior to the camera system failing. It worked fine one day, then did not work again the next.

The most communication cable connector recall causes the rear view camera to die early due to excess electrical noise going through the wire. There are many reports of the rear view cameras dying quickly due to the electrical issue of the most cable. The recall needs to cover the camera as well as the cable connectors, as they suffer damage as a result of the poor connection. My camera is still broken after the recall work was completed.

The backup camera image is distorted and the coloring is wrong (green and purple) and you cannot see the image from the camera. When researching online, there are numerous reports of 2019 Honda Pilot with similar issues. This situation happens when moving in reverse when the backup camera is on.

Rear cross-warning and back-up camera image is blurred by extreme colors which impairs visibility when viewing the info screen. This appears to be a common problem with the camera as reported by many other 2019 Honda Pilot owners. Vehicle is out of warranty (53,000 miles). Honda should issue a recall based on the current number of malfunctions reported on the "piloteers. Org" website for this vehicle.

Continued from previous submitted complaint: driver window will not stop when trying to stop it forcibly with hand. I was told that the window will not stop until the window is almost closed at the top. Hope a 4 year old's arm isn't in it. Front passenger window will raise 1/4 of the way up, then fall back down and rock on it's cradle. I took a video of it happening but charlie's Honda, augusta, maine did not want to see it. The key fob is a nightmare. It tells me it won’t lock because key is in vehicle. The key is in my pocket as I walk away. It also tells me that “no key detected” I’m sitting in the driver’s seat with the vehicle’s engine physically running. Rear hatch will not open when physically pushing release button. Much more reported but charlie's Honda has an excuse ready at all times. I bought this Pilot on 10/02/2023 and have nothing but problems with it up to date 6/20/2025. Previous owners kept it for 4 months then traded because they felt very unsafe in it. Which I didn't know this info until 6-15-2025.

The infotainment system screen will go black/turn off for several minutes, completing disabling the backup camera and other functions. Last week, the system went black completely and I tried to turn off / on the car multiple times but the infotainment system still did not reboot. I had to disconnect/reconnect the main battery to make the system to reboot. Few days later, the system went black again for a short period of time. When the system is up an running, there are many time that my concentration on driving has been disrupted by the sudden cracking and popping sounds stemming from the infotainment system. There is no pending recall on my car, so I do not what to do with my situation.

At least 7 months ago my back up camera started malfunctioning. When starting car first time of the day the screen would blink, fuzzy, blue, the go to black and last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. One time I went to garage and opened passenger door without vehicle on and the camera /radio lit up. ?? it did go off. I saw there was a recall but unfortunately not for my VIN. Have had it to dealer twice and they found nothing diagnostic and the car was warmed up so the camera/radio area was working. . Help!.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - rear view camera how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -I am unable to view if anything is obstructing my vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I will be taking it in on 9/29 for diagnosis, seeing that my VIN is not eligible for bulletin 20-051 when bulletin states " the rear view camera may not display when shifting to reverse" service bulletin 20-047 was previously done on the 25th of September. Also, at the same time the rear camera stopped working, the rear wiper also stopped working. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no, it was not. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, I had no indication prior to failure.

The infotainment screen goes black. No rear camera view shown when reversing. Vehicle was being driven on a public street.

The infotainment system is not functioning to include: back up camera, phone hands free, maps, radio, clock, etc. The unit has been inoperable since December 2020.
