Honda Ridgeline owners have reported 23 problems related to warnings (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Ridgeline based on all problems reported for the Ridgeline.
The forward collision warning system consistently produces false errors resulting in flashing lights, shaking wheel, and audible alarms causing significant distraction from driver's focus. Daily frequency of alarms creates a false alarm risk as driver has to mentally adjust to ignore the alarm features in order to focus on driving. Primarily occurs on two lane roads where oncoming traffic is regularly misidentified by the system. Roughly 1-3 times per day on a 10 mile commute.

Oftentimes, while driving on a 2-lane road, the Ridgeline will produce an alarm (beeping sound and flashing amber "brake" illuminated on dash display) when driving through a right hand curve with opposite direction traffic in the opposing lane. In every instance, my vehicle and the opposing vehicle are centered in our respective lanes with no indication that either vehicle is on a course to depart their lanes. This is extremely disconcerting as it creates a false emergency alarm. It also makes me think (momentarily) I am not seeing some collision threat. This creates a hazardous situation and I fear that the automatic emergency braking will activate and cause me to lose control of the situation. The opposing traffic scenario I'm describing is quite routine with no cause for alarm. In a worse-case scenario, the opposing vehicle's trajectory would place it on a course further away from me where it could go off the road on the right side of its lane - not to the left towards my vehicle. I have not yet taken it in to the dealership, but I do intend to do so during January 2026.

With the forward collision warning system active, there are frequent false positives - warning sound, shaking of steering wheel when no collision is imminent, startling the driver potentially causing an accident.

This is design feedback. When taking curves to the right on 2 lane highways and especially when the oncoming is a truck, and the forward collision warning set on short, the system experiences a spurious event: brake warning and wheel shake. Lane departure is off. Both vehicles in their lanes. Suggest Honda use right curve inputs (camera right curve view) to reduce the radar scan field to avoid these spurious alarms. I've not had this experience with numerous other vehicles by different manufacturers. On a right curve the radar is looking at the oncoming lane. This should be analyzed and corrected.
The forward collision system frequently goes off from a vehicle simply driving in their lane normally. The truck alarms, shakes the wheel, and sometimes brakes automatically. This is alarming for my kids riding in the car and the braking is dangerous for cars behind me. This could cause a rear end collision.

Forward collision warning alarms when oncoming vehicle is recognized. This happens at least 3 times every time I drive. Only happens on 2 lane roads, not divided streets or highways. Very annoying and distracting.
The collision breaking will fire off automatically in situations where you’re going around a curve and there’s a car coming in the opposite direction. The truck will see the other car and slam on the brakes even though everybody’s in the correct lane it’s terribly dangerous because it basically is brake checking people who are behind you. There’s no rhyme or reason to it. It does not always do it. It just does it sometimes you can turn the system off, but you have to do that every single time that you turned the car on and it’s I’m sure caused many wrecks at this point.
Multi purpose camera behind front mirror failed. Most safety systems will not work. Various warnings regarding system failure were noted on dash. Supposedly a bad battery installed and warranted by dealer caused this problem? dealer covered the battery but charged $2100. 00 to replace the camera!.

2021 Honda Ridgeline rtl-e. Part number 36160-t6z-a62-m1 failure, hard code u3000-49. Results in total loss of Honda sense safety system. Including collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation system, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist system, traffic sign recognition, auto high-beam headlights. This appears to be a fairly common issue across Honda models where the multipurpose camera fails, generally due to heat from exposure to sun. The replacement cost and required re-calibration via the dealer is ~$2000. Living in northern California with extreme heat, I will assume this problem will resurface after a few years resulting in another $2000+ repair.
My Honda Ridgeline had 7,590 miles when it started failing all the dash board lights turned on the engine decelerated I then tried to accelerate it rapidly accelerated my steering wheel vibrated I could not turn or slow down witch caused for me to crash.
Experiencing numerous false error warnings from collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) when meeting oncoming vehicles on straight or slightly curving two lane roads. I have taken my vehicle three times to be serviced for this specific reason and a blind spot information system error. The bsi appears to be repaired now but the false cmbs warnings still have not been repaired. The most recent incidents listed below occurred today after picking up the truck from the bsi repair.

This is a brand new 2025 Ridgeline with only 900 miles. The collision mitigation breaking system and the lane keeping assist system does not work properly on my vehicle. The dealer where I bought the vehicle (dick brooks Honda in greer) has insisted there's nothing wrong with the vehicle on two occasions. However, I took the vehicle to another dealer; the master technician said there might be something wrong with the radar system in my vehicle and to take it back to the original dealer. The original dealer won't even acknowledge what the other service department said about the radar system. Honda is just parroting what the original dealer is saying. I have a brand new vehicle that is not safe to drive and nobody is helping me. I have captured video on a gopro of some incidents when this occurs. These systems go off for no apparent reason. When I manually turn off the cmbs, there's a persistent warning message that appears on the infotainment screen entitled, cmbs problem. That message says: "the collision mitigation braking system has a problem. Restart your vehicle. If the indicator remains on, have your vehicle checked by a dealer. " the cmbs is malfunctioning, but how do I know if the system is off when I turn it off when this message appears? the dealer where I bought the vehicle from says "this is normal", but I know that is not true because I have looked at other 2025 Ridgelines and this message does not appear.
At 48,000 miles, the vehicle began to experience multiple advanced driver assistance systems problems, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance, which rendered all these systems inoperable. Systems that were designed to mitigate collisions became non-functional, and continuous warnings on the dashboard were a distraction while driving. Dealer scanned the vehicle with a code u300-40 multipurpose camera unit/millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure, and diagnosed a failure of the multipurpose camera, which was then replaced and recalibrated. I have retained the failed unit after paying to have the replacement installed and calibrated. All warning lamps for the above mentioned systems flashed on my dashboard every time the vehicle was started, prior to the dealer repair. The safety of the driver and those around them was affected because repairs for this safety feature suite may be cost prohibitive to some ($2000) and they just won't fix it.
The issues with this vehicle and the ongoing problems related to the forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking have previously been reported to you under complaint number 11619917. With additional events, the vehicle has again been taken back to the dealer and the issues reported to american Honda. The mechanical conditions still exist. The dealer has driven the vehicle and now says that the known conditions are normal? they also blame the conditions on the roads being driven (county and state highways)? how can a vehicle manufacturer be allowed to sell vehicles with known safety defects? by itself, that is outrageous. I am uploading the dealer repair invoice for the most recent events. Can someone take this seriously and do something before there is an accident and someone is either hurt or killed?.
The auto dimming is way to sensitive. It turns down on road signs, street lights etc.
On more than one occasion, the forward collision warning system and emergency braking system on my 2023 Honda Ridgeline activated when there was no obstacle. These incidents have occurred since new. Normally, the false activation causes my vehicle to flash the "brake" warning on the instrument cluster, the steering wheel to shake, and the brakes to be gently applied. However, one time a false activation occurred while I was turning within a busy intersection. This false activation caused my vehicle to suddenly brake to a complete stop. Thankfully there were no vehicles behind me.
Around 25,000 miles front brakes started making screeching noise with regular stopping. I am not a hard breaker. Rotors according do the dealership have developed hot spots. Honda has changed to a coated rotor which cannot be turned. I also have a 2019 Honda Ridgeline that has the non coated rotors and have had no problems with front brakes.
At times when traffic in opposite lane coming at me on 2 lane road the auto brake system is activated and telling me to apply the brakes. Also, at times the lane departure system will not activate if I drift over into the opposite lane of traffic.
This vehicle randoml activates the forward collision warning braking system. Cannot deactivate. Acc will not follow vehicle in front at selected distance. The Honda will accelerate at high speed until right on bumper of vehicle in front and then slam on brake. It will then drift back quite a ways and then repeat. Extremely dangerous to us Honda dealer acknowledges issue and say there is no fix for these. Auto hi beams are a joke. Random on/off. Again a dangerous feature to try to use. These are not one time events as portrayed in additional details section.
Several times over the past two months, I started having issues with the auto engine idle stop. I'm at about 25,000 miles and my vehicle has completely stalled out 4 times in two months. This is due to a failure of the auto engine idle stop system to restart the engine after I take my foot off the brake pedal. This has put my safety and others at risk in all of these incidents, all happened in busy, high traffic areas. In one instance it took a full minute to be able to turn my car back on. One time it triggered the collision system, and I couldn't restart my car for several minutes. After looking up this issue, I know there is an ongoing NHTSA investigation into the Honda pilot models, but this needs to be expanded to the ridge line models.
Automatic emergency braking has engaged on a two way highway curve a couple times until I disabled it for the remainder of the trip. The “brake” forward collision warning screen and alarm sounds frequently on 4-lane 2-way 30 mph road with a slight curve which it mistakes car in adjacent oncoming lane as a car it may collide with, I was able to eliminate it from applying brakes be adjusting sensitivity to low but the warning still pops up. Additionally, the automatic brights feature is inadequate resulting in flashing/blinding oncoming drivers, I have resulted in turning the feature off which process is more complicated than it should be.
When entering a slight curve in the road, the steering wheel shakes and the dash says brake. There is always a car in the oncoming lane, but well within its lane. I only have 1000 miles on the Ridgeline, but this has happened several times. In each instance the brakes were never applied, but it is quite unnerving. There are times when the shaking (vibrating) steering wheel is more violent which makes me think that it is close to applying the brakes. I had the same issue with my 2018 accord. The dealer is aware but they say there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.
I have a 2021 Honda Ridgeline sport equipped with cmbs an automatic braking system that is supposed to be a safety feature, but actually makes the car more dangerous. The problem with the Ridgeline sport collision mitigation braking system is that it attempts to mitigate crashes when the system thinks an obstacle is ahead, but it is a false warning, and there are no actual obstacles. It appears there is a software or sensor defect in the Honda sensing technology causing the vehicle to issue warnings and alerts to the driver and the potential to automatically hit the brakes without warning when there are no obstacles in front of the vehicle and it has not deviated from its lane. Service advisor/mechanic at dealership called it a computer glitch. Nothing they can do. Taking it back again to have it on record; dealership tried to fix vehicle. This vehicle is potentially dangerous with no way to correct concern at this time. Problem continues since March 2021.
