1 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 2002 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

My 2002 Hyundai Accent "clicks off" repeatedly when attempting to refuel the vehicle. Gasoline pools in the chamber between the fuel door and the gas tank causing a serious hazard. Fuel smells are frequently observed within the car after fueling and for a period of days afterward. The "check engine" remains illuminated indicating a fuel line system. I have had the system checked by a full service automotive facility and they have replaced several parts with no success in remedying the problem. Have suggested possibly replacing the entire full line, gas tank, etc but have indicated this is likely a manufacturer defect that should be addressed as such. At the current time it is impossible to put more than a few ounces of gasoline into the car at any one time and failure to closely monitor the chamber while attempting to refuel can lead to gasoline overflow and spills. I have significant concerns as to the safety of fueling this car on a weekly basis as well as the risk of fire hazard should any type of rear-end collision occur with this vehicle. From my research this appears to be a fairly common occurrence with this model/year of Hyundai, including at low mileage points. Concerned that Hyundai has not addressed what appears to be a serious issue for safety.

2 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 2004 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 10/19/2006

An accident occured (collision) with my 2004 hyundia Accent. Immediately a fire started under the hood. The fire burned through the firewall into the front seat of the car. The gas line shut off should have prevented this and the fire wall should have stopped it. Luckily no one was killed.

3 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 1999 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 06/10/2006

Fuel line and power steering line rubbed where they were close together in the engine compartment causing a hole in the fuel line which was spraying a steady strem of gasloline right into the engine compartment all over the transmission and radiator fans. I feel that this was a design flaw and that those lines never should have been placed that close together this is not a laughing matter however Hyundai motors of America tol me there was nothing they could do about it because my car is out of warranty. I could have been killed there could have been an explosion and or fire.

4 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 2002 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 05/24/2006

On may 24, 2006 my husband went to start the car and it wouldn't start. He kept trying to start it and then a smell of gasoline overwhelmed him. He immediately left the car and called a tow truck to take it to the dealer (earnhart Hyundai in gilbert arizona). My husband was told later in the day by sam at earnhart that the fuel filter clamp had been "busted" and that gas had inadvertently leaked all over the inside of the car. He (sam) proceeded to tell my husband that "someone" had tampered with the fuel filter and they had no way of proving it was a manufacturer defect. Apparently, in this make of Hyundai Accent, the fuel lines run inside the cab of the car, you need to actually take the driver seat off to work on the fuel filter. We have never had the fuel filter worked on, so this was a surprise to us. My next question is why would Hyundai have fuel lines running inside the cab of the car???? this is the most bizarre thing I have ever heard of. If he had been a smoker and lit up like most smokers do, he would have been engulfed in flames. We asked for a replacement of the carpet, drivers seat and anything else that was saturated and we were told no. This is a safety hazard for anyone who has a Hyundai.
