For the past 2 years I have had to replace speed sensors and oxygen sensors, several times. I was taking to my mechanic because parts were out of warranty, but my mechanic stated that it is a transmission problem because every time I had chips replaced my trans fluid was dirty and had to flush again and again. Took car to dealer, same conclusion. Hyundai refused to replace. Filed a complaint with Hyundai. Hyundai stated they were not contacted by dealer, this statement was later retracted by them. They are still refusing to replace my transmission. Did all scheduled maintenance. My car has about 77000 miles and is almost 10 years. My fuel system began acting up early 2011. Can only fill tank 1/4 gallon every 1min. This takes me a very long time to fil1 tank. Dealer gave me a $1600 repair estimate. I am reading literally 1000's of complaints on both issues and Hyundai refuses to speak on them. These are dangerous issues: sensor chips causes cars to stall, particularly at high speeds, imagine being behind someone going 60mph and then suddenly their car stalls. . . . Crash waiting to happen and the fueling issue can increase the likelihood of car fires. If the gas is leaking or spilling out due to poor workmanship and/or design and an accident occurs ignition of gas spilling outside increases, not to mention environmental hazards. These cars could not pass emissions testing. The main issue is that Hyundai is missing in action and refuses to honor their warranties. Shame shame Hyundai. Saying you offer a 10 year warranty and actually honoring it are 2 different things.

2002 Hyundai Accent with 90,000 miles will not accept more than a trickle of gasoline without backing up and shutting off the gas pump. This occurs due to the charcoal in the vapor canister expanding and blocking off the venting from the gas tank. Not only is the back up of fuel dangerous, but it appears to be a pollution control system problem as well.
The problem I am having is with the vehicles perg flow system. The vehicle has a charcoal canister that filters gas vapors from the gas tank. This canister has become clogged so on fill up the fumes can not vent properly and forces air back up the filler neck of the gas tank and sprays gas all over. This is not only dangerous to myself but also dangerous to every person in the area. I feel this is a danger to everyone and needs to b addressed.
1999 Hyundai Accent. Unable to safely fill gas tank. The gas pump shuts off after pumping only 31/2 gallons. When you try to fill it up gas comes out of the filler neck spilling on the car and the ground. Hyundai site shows TSB 96-30-006 stating this problem has existed on their cars since 1998 but offers no fix. Is there a recall? [xxx]

Can't fill gas tank, pump and nozzle keeps clicking off even at a trickle of gas and tank near empty. This is a very common problem with Hyundai and it should be recalled or fixed for free not $700-800 at the dealer!!!.

A few months ago a problem started with my pumping gas. Gas tank/car will not accept more than a few cents worth of gas before clicking off as if full. Tank is confirmed as not full when this happens. This is a constant occurrence ie every time gas is attempted to be pumped. It seems the problem is the charcoal canister. This is scary because in addition to the "click-off" it often overflows spilling/spraying gas all over me, my car and the ground. I am stressed and fear walking around with flammable liquid dried into my clothing! what if the gas got into my eyes! I wish someone could help with getting Hyundai to do a recall as this is making me nervous to the point where I will not pump gas while my children are in the car which is extremely inconvenient and is something I should not have to worry and constantly stress about. Please help because coming in contact with flammable gasoline is just terrifying and not something I want to continue doing!.
The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that while attempting to fill the vehicle with fuel, she noticed that the vehicle exhibited an issue with the fuel being pumped in the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the charcoal canister located in the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer but was offered no assistance because the vehicle was outside the warranty. The current and failure mileages were approximately 55,000. Updated 10/27/10.
For at least a year now, my gas tank shut off valve seems to be defective. The tip on the fuel handle goes in but the handle shuts off after only a few seconds after starting to fill the tank. The switch off sensor inside the fuel intake valve area seems to indicate the tank is full when it is not. The trigger on the handle has to be manually squeezed and even then the problem occurs. On many occasions the gas has overfilled, spit out and spilled out and onto ground, the car, the handle and my hand as the sensor does not indicate the tank is full. This is dangerous. The Hyundai dealer service rep said to bring the car in to check and it would cost around $100. If this is a common problem, the dealer should cover this check and correct this dangerous problem.
I have an appointment this week for which the dealer wants to charge me $99 to inspect a cracked fuel tank per recall in which possibly 66,086 vehicles of my type are involved. I have the feeling that the dealer will try not to cover this repair. See my details below. Recall campaign: 00v314001. Should the dealer be responsible for this repair? this car is in perfect shape despite the mileage. It has never been hit, towed or improperly jacked. I have a 1997 Accent gt ( mfg 04/16/97). I was notified by mail some months back that the gas cap needed to be replaced to prevent excess pressure buildup in the tank that might lead to the tank cracking. I went to the local dealership, earnhardt Hyundai in gilbert, az, and they replaced the cap as specified and supposedly pressure tested the tank. Not long after that I began to smell fumes whenever I filled up and the smell continued for 50 to 75 miles before abating. I dropped the tank and checked everything I could find, reinstalled, and still had the problem. Today I dropped the tank again and upon close inspection I found a small crack (about 1/2 inch) in the middle of the top of the tank. Clearly the tank needs to be replaced but "is there is an improved tank?" and "will it be covered in connection with the gas cap recall?" since cause and effect has been demonstrated. The dealership is not cooperating with this repair. It is my complaint and demand that Hyundai must provide full, prompt remedy for this potentially dangerous (flammable) defect but hasn't done so. This car has 162,640 miles (but runs like new!). Don't get this wrong, it is a great car but has a serious defect and Hyundai is not stepping up to take responsibility for the repair which the dealer estimates will cost approximately $350 to fix. The contact owns a 1998 Hyundai Accent. The contact smelled a strong odor of raw gasoline in her vehicle. She took the vehicle to the mechanic and they stated that the gasoline fuel system storage tank assembly was cracked. The contact was informed that the defect was on recall. The manufacturer stated that the previous owners had the recall already repaired; therefore, they would not repair the vehicle. The contact believes that if the vehicle is experiencing the same failure as before, then it was previously repaired with a defected part. The failure mileage was below 100,000 and current mileage was 117,000.

The consumers vehicle was recalled for a faulty ar cracked gas tank but the dealer only replaced the gas cap, the invoice states the the tank was inspected and looked ok, consumer wonders if the tank should be checked periodically. Nlm.
Transmission jumped out of gear and the gears sticks sometimes. Low fuel light, stopped operating/engine oil spot under hood, and rough idle. Dealer notified. The vehicle crack in fuel tank.
Prior to the recall, consumer stated that the check engine light would illuminate, the fuel filter cap was replaced, however the problem still existed, consumer stated that each time the vehicle was tesed the same code would appear, consumer believes that this same problem is having to do with the recall which seems that what ever the dealer is doing is not correcting the problem.
Gas gauge failed replacement of sending unit and tank did not rectify failure.
Engine check light comes on and off while consumer has owned vehicle. This occurs more frequently when gas tank is filled to halfway mark. Dealership has replaced several components of vehicle, and still has not resolved problem. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Nhtsa recall 00v314001 fuel tank; eastridge auto plex in casper wy. , the consumer was asked to make 2 trips, one trip for inspecting the fuel tank and if it needs to be replaced at which time it would be ordered. The owner would have to reschedule another appointment and bring the vehicle back. The recall letter does not state this as procedure.
When filling up gas tank gasoline nozzle will shut off almost as there is too much pressure. Gas cap was changed a second time in may and recall was complete and prolem has not came back.
Gas was leaking from tank to the inside of the car under the back seat around the plate that covers the fuel pump. Gas pooled underneath the the back seat on passenger side. When seat was removed the foam on the underneath side was saturated with gas and from the top of the seat you could put pressure on the seat and gas would literally leak out of the seat. The week before our grandchildren were in the back seat and we all were complaining of headaches. The smell is still there after 2 attempt of the car dealership spraying it and ordering a new back seat. We feel like we should have a new car out of this because it is not fixed. This could have been so dangerous. The person at the dealership told us we were very lucky people. If we had smoked or someone threw a cigarette or match it would have exploded. Also he said after the plate got so full, it could have gone back on the exhaust and it would have blown. When I think what could have happened it makes me sick. My only hope is there is not another one out there like it because it could be very dangerous. This car should never have made it off the line. This makes me think that they do not inspect their cars very well if one or more got by with something as dangerous as a gas leak.
