Hyundai Azera owners have reported 3 problems related to check engine light on (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Azera based on all problems reported for the Azera.
Car shifted erratically and shut down multiple times while at speeds up to 45 mph with loss of power assist for brakes and steering, the last time while rounding a curve and braking for a stop sign. When restarted, the indicator for the shift position was completely blank (reappeared on a second shutdown/restart. Dealer finally located a trouble code (no check engine light) which indicated a failing transmission oil temperature/shift position sensor located on the automatic transmission. Dealer refused to submit to Hyundai in spite of the fact car was still under drive train warranty and safety considerations of such a failure. This obviously covers up such failures from NHTSA oversight. Problem has not reoccurred since sensor was replaced. Repair invoice from the dealer is available upon request.

I purchased a 2009 Hyundai Azera last year from fuccillo Chevrolet in grand island, new york. The car was new and still on the lot after 2 years but I was assured that there was nothing wrong it and I have been pleased with the vehicle up until now. However, yesterday while driving home from work, the car went into an emergency slow-down mode and both the ecs off and check engine light went on. This happened on the thruway while I was driving in heavy traffic which was harrowing. Fortunately, I was able to 'limp' off the highway and get to a side street. I called my husband and the emergency roadside assistance and my vehicle has now been taken to northtown Hyundai in amherst, NY. My husband researched the slow-down/ecs issue on the internet and found that there have been numerous cases of this happening due to a defective throttle control device in many of the Hyundai and kia models. In fact, a woman at the service counter who had a 2007 Azera had the exact same issue with her car! needless to say, this should be a recall issue and that is the reason why I am writing. It seems that this throttle control issue is fairly common with these vehicles and it is also potentially dangerous. Please make them initiate a recall.

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Azera. The contact heard a noise underneath the hood, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle stalled several times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who test drove the vehicle and was unable to locate a failure code. On July 27, 2010 the vehicle was towed to the dealer and the throttle body was replaced; yet, the failure wasn't corrected. The vehicle was towed to the dealer twice. The vehicle wasn't repaired. The failure mileage was 5,068 and the current mileage was 5,100.
