The air bag light on the dashboard illuminated. This marked the third such incident since the vehicle was recalled for an airbags defect and received a replacement airbag wire kit and vinyl cover on 12/12/2008 at 60,414 miles. When I took the vehicle in to the local Hyundai dealership, they found that the side airbag for the front passenger seat had too much resistance because the wiring harness had fallen from the protective bracket. To address the issue, the dealership tightened the connector and secured it to a protective bracket with a zip tie. The dealership performed the work under the twelve-month/ 12,000-mile service and parts guarantee stemming from the repair for the previous incident in which the airbags became inoperable because of a poor connection at the psab connector under the front passenger seat.

I currently own a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. The airbag light came on one day for no apparent reason. I took it to a local Hyundai dealership service garage and they explained that the wiring underneath the front passenger seat had become disconnected due to a few items that were under the seat. I called Hyundai consumer affairs to see if there had been a recall on this, as it seemed odd to me that this could happen simply due to an object being underneath a car seat, and they indicated there was indeed a recall for this same exact situation for my year, make and model, but that the manufacture date on my vehicle was approximately 6 months outside of the range of the recall, so there was nothing they could do about it. I find it suspect that they cannot cover the cost to fix this issue, which is exactly the same as the current recall description, just because they determined that my vehicle is outside the manufacturing date range. I would like my vehicle included in this recall so that this does not happen again, causing a potential safety issue. The recall information can be found on your website. The NHTSA action number is ea08012.

This Hyundai dealership then quoted me $693. 31 plus tax to perform the repair. I asked whether this issue should be covered by the recent airbag recall under which the vehicle had received a replacement airbag wire kit and vinyl cover on 12/12/2008 at 60,414 miles. Lakeland automall Hyundai claimed that the faulty airbag control module was not subject to recall. Eventually, this dealership and Hyundai agreed to replace the airbag control module on 2/13/2009 as a "¿¿warranty extension" for the $101. 93 fee that I had already paid.

The car Hyundai 2002 Elantra used to be very good car . It did not give me complain during 4 years. But when 80,000 miles covered the air bags lights keep on and off during high speed. But then problem come to normal and engine light does not go away.
From day of purchase, I noticed a vibration in the steering, starting about 42 mph. Took the vehicle to dealer, who rotated and balanced tires. Vibration then started about 50 mph, back to the dealer rotated and balanced tires again along with alignment. Vibration about 58 mph back to dealer again, rotation, forced balancing, rotor turned down, still had vibration. Filed under lemon law, final attempt by service department involved hma regional chief mechanic trouble shooter. He claimed they loosened motor mounts and let engine center itself, changed tires, balanced and aligned again. After a week I picked up car which he said was fine. Vibration still noticeable. Gave up on hma and drove car about 20,000 more miles till vibration got so bad I had to go to a brake shop because it was almost impossible to stop. They changed pads, adjusted brakes and rebuilt right front caliper. No more vibration. Hyundai won't pay for the repair, so following thru with lemon law and hoping to get out of this death trap. Air bag light comes on some days, and stays on all day, some days it's not on. Do the air bags work. Also having problems with paint finish, door seals and seat belt retractors. Real piece of junk and I would never recommend this car to any one. Also had to have brake dust removed from rear brakes at about 7000 miles and the dealer charged me 60. 00$ excessive dust accumulation is a design defect and at the least should have been covered by Hyundai. Abl. Pco.
