Air Bag Not Deploy problems of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. While driving approximately 15 mph, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle, causing the vehicle that was following the contact to crash into the contact's vehicle. The front driver side air bag did not deploy but the passengers side air bag did. The police were called to the scene and a report was filed. The contact sought medical attention for injuries to her chest and shoulder blades. The doctor diagnosed her with a chest contusion. The vehicle was destroyed and was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Srs light in instrument cluster would come on and off then, stayed off. I took vehicle to dealer and was advised the wiring harness under the passenger front seat needed to be replaced. I declined to replace as the cost was very high. I later checked the NHTSA data base and found this problem listed for the 2002 Hyundai Elantra; NHTSA campaign id number: 08v533000. I called the dealer in regards to the recall and was informed my car was not included and the stated recall, was a different problem. I later called Hyundai USA and they advised me my car was not included in the recall as it was manufactured 6 months later then the recall group. My vehicle has the same problem as that listed in the above recall. If there is a side impact the side air bags will not deploy, a definite safety issue! I think hyundia should make and pay for the repair!.

I was rear-ended at high speed and struck the car to my front with significant impact. My car is a total loss. My front end is crumpled in half, bumper completely torn off as well. My airbag did not deploy. Officers at the scene and other credible sources suggest it should definitely deployed based on the damage. I suffered compressed neck vertebrae.

Head on collision, drivers side, airbags did not deploy, three people in the car all sustained injuries, driver was transported to the hospital. . . . Damage to the car from this accident is considered a total loss. . . . . . . My biggest concern is why didn't my airbags deploy?.

While driving 35 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact, both frontal air bags failed to deploy. This caused the driver to sustain major injuries, and was transported to the hospital. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection.

When rear ended 40 mph front air bags did not deploy. Consumer had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

On the evening of 6/27, my son was driving our 2002 Hyundai Elantra. There were three other passengers in the vehicle. A deer ran in front of the vehicle, and my son veered off to the right (in an attempt to avoid hitting the deer), ran off the shoulder of the road, and into a ditch. The vehicle did not roll over, but it came to rest on it's right side. The two front and two side airbags did not deploy. A fire ignited (almost immediately) in the engine compartment area of the vehicle. All passengers were wearing seat belts, and through the grace of god, all were able to escape the vehicle before it became thoroughly engulfed in flames. This is related to the fuel tank assembly recall 04v178000.

While driving 40 mph in the rain, the consumer applied the brakes, however the brakes went to the floor and the consumer lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle collided head on with several trees. The consumer was wearing his seat belt, but the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was totaled and the consumer was injured in the accident.

Brakes locked up and skidded for approximately 50 ft. At below speed limit causing rear end collision. Car bumper was punctured by tail pipe of vehicle in front and air bags did not deploy.

My daughter was driving our 2002 Hyundai Elantra when she hit someone from behind. All of the injuries from this accident were minor, but the rear seatbelt became a major concern. Our grandson, who is almost 2 years old, was in his carseat in the back seat on the passengers side. His seatbelt did not hold his seat. He and the carseat were thrown forward against the back of the front seat. He had some bruising on his knee and struggled to walk for a day or two and this seems to be the extent of his inbjuries. However, I am concerned about what would happen if this had been a more serious crash. I spoke with the local dealer, hunters Chevrolet, and they gave me some crap about sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It all depended on the amount of enertia the car seat generated when it flew forward. This doesn't sound right or safe to me. Also, I am interested in finding out why the driver's airbag did not deploy.

While driving 55mph car rolled over 3 times and off a cliff 40feet, and air bags did not deploy.

Consumer's vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle that was traveling at 65 mph. Upon impact, air bags failed to deploy. Vehicle was totaled.

The vehicle was impacted on the passenger side door yet the air bags did not deploy.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 70mph. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. Vehicle was totalled. Please provide additional information.
