2 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2017

While I drive down the road, weather it be at 10mph or 55mph, my eps light and emergency brake light will turn on and my car will stop. It will not turn off until my car is stopped, turned off. And turned back on again. Since the power steering is lost I can not just turn to the side of the road. I have to pray that no one will be coming up behind me and hit me causing an accident. Before that will happen for two weeks my alarm will go off at all hours of the day and night. Over and over and over again until my cars eps and e brake lights turn on while I am driving, but then the cycle will start all over again. The most frequent tiem this happened was while I was driving down highway 99w in dundee oregon, I was going about 45mph and my cars eps and e break . Light turned on and I had to turn it off and then restart it. I have taken it many times to a dealership to fix but they just charge me money and say its fixed, but then it happens again. I will sue, I am so over my car threatening my life and the lives of my loved ones.

3 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2016

The brake switch had to replaced twice within a few months. The three rear brake lights were not working. This was a common repair on other model years of the Hyundai Elantra. 2007 should be included in the existing recall. (recall campaigns 110 and 113. ).

4 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2015

When driving home another vehicle pulled beside my wife and indicated that when slowing down for the traffic light none of her brake lights were operational. Upon my wife arriving at home I had all the fuses tested and replaced, had bulbs replaced, but still no brake lights on the rear of car including the rear window brake light. Contacted Hyundai and indicated that there was a NHTSA recall #13v113000/campaign #110 in regards to exterior lighting:brake lights:switch. Hyundai refused to acknowledge the recall for my vehicle indicating that my VIN manufacture date of mid-2006 eliminated my vehicle from the recall. I informed Hyundai that a 2007 model car had to be manufactured in 2006. The case manager, joe of Hyundai (refused to give last name) gave me case number 7744883 and informed me that Hyundai would not repair the car or honor the recall because of the production date. None of the web sites I investigated in regards to this recall indicate that a vehicle must meet a specific production date, only the model year, which mine does 2007 Hyundai Elantra. Hyundai does not indicate anywhere in public documentation in regards to recalls that vehicles must meet specific production criteria. Hyundai has denied my request to repair the specific part involved in the recall, the brake light switch, and joe informed me that he was not willing to entertain reviewing any of my documentation involving this recall.

6 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

Took Hyundai Elantra for recall repair in 2011, one of the repairs scheduled was the stop lamp switch. Was approached in traffic yesterday by a helpful, concerned driver who said the brake lights were not coming on. Grateful for that person, who may have saved our lives. Not grateful to the dealer who offered zero assistance - only an overpriced diagnostic fee plus standard parts and labor cost. This was after I had already determined the switch was the exact problem. Rather than fork over $120 for an unnecessary diagnosis, I bought the part elsewhere for $12 and installed it in no time, with a little help from an 11yr old. Bottom line: the stop lamp switch not working in 2014 after a 2011 recall service means either 1) burns Hyundai in marlton NJ didn't actually replace the switch they said they replaced or 2) they feel ok about putting customers at risk of death by installing a critical part that only lasts 3 years. Neither situation is ethical.

8 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

My car when I tried to break on the highway starting pulling to the right and when I let off the break it corrects back. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the brake caliper and brake hose. . . My brother is an auto mechanic for Lexus and decided to look into it further and it is actually the brake actuator where the brake fluid isn't even getting to the caliper. I am afraid to drive the car. This is a huge safety concern for me. And I don't see where this is recalled by huyndai? and, the brake light isn't on telling me there is an issue in the abs system?????? has anyone else experienced this problem?.

9 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2014

Brake lights are not functioning. This model was subject to a recall for a faulty brake light switch but the Hyundai informs me mine is not included. I suspect it may be the same issue.

10 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2014

No brake lights, stop lamp switch was fauliy.

11 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2012

A friend driving behind me noticed my brake lights not working when approaching a red light. When we parked we tested them and none of the rear brake lights work. I do not know how long my brake lights have not been working but it is a major safety issue considering I drive in rush hour traffic in a city daily. There is currently a recall (campaign 09v122000) that I would have expected to include the 2007 Hyundai Elantra that I drive, but it appears that my particular VIN is not included (yet). I am also bothered that I had to do all this research. When the car dealership and the Hyundai customer service entered my VIN, this recall doesn't even show up as a possible inclusion. I understand my vehicle was not part of the recall but considering other vehicles of my make, model, and year are susceptible to this particular recall, I would have hoped that it would red flag other vehicles that could be susceptible. Or at the very least, when a recall does occur, other owners of similar vehicles should be informed in an effort for those owners to watch out for the safety issues that may arise.

12 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2012

In September 2012, friend told me my left rear brake light was out. Upon inspection, I noticed the light intermittently worked and did not work. Brought it to the dealer, who was unable to replicate my concern. So they said nothing was wrong. I have recently seen the problem again. Now, I've received a recall notice for the exterior brake lighting. Upon further research, I see this recall was issued in April 2013. Why am I only being notified now?? especially when I brought the issue to their attention 6 months earlier and they have record of it in the dealer's database??.

13 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle stop switch malfunctioned and as a result, the transmission shift lock was disabled. The contact was not able to shift into park. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 09v122000 (service brakes, hydraulic:switches:brake light). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 100,000.

14 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2010

Hyundai didn't fully assess recall id # 09v122000 on the brake stop light. Mine has malfunctioned twice in 1. 5 years, yet they are now telling me that I am not a part of the recall. This is a very serious issue that can also involve the cruise control not stopping, shifting problems, and a possible rear-end accident. This needs to be looked in to - more people than originally estimated can be at serious risk - not to mention more people are paying to having this fixed by their dealer (I. E. Me) than there should be!.

15 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2008

Own a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. Last year I had to take it to the dealer after the shift gear locked on me in the drive position. I was unable to move the shift to the parked position had to use a screw driver to manually release the gear and shifted to park. I drove my car home that day the next day I used a screw driver again and shifted to drive and drove the car to the dealer. On the way to the dealer other driver on the road blew their horns alerted me that I had no brake lights. Eventhough my head lights and rear lights were on. I pulled over and sure enough the brake lights were not working. I again went through the motions with the shifter and manage to drive the car to the dealer with the emergency flashers on. At the dealer they told me that the brake switch that operated the brake lights and shift gear burnt out and was replaced. I expressed the seriousness of the situation, driving around with no brake lights and the dealer just brushed it off and told me that I would not have the problem again. Well yesterday (9/11/08) it happened to me again on my way to my job in jersey city new jersey. The shifter locked in the drive position and the brake lights were out again. Again I had to manually shift the gear to park then back to drive in order to drive to my job a few minutes away from the incident. At 11pm I drove from my job to my home, without brake lights. This morning I drove my car under the same conditions to the Hyundai in north plainfield, new jersey to get the car repaired. Again I expressed the seriousness of this situation how it could cause a serious accident. The dealer again indicated that the problem was caused by a faulty brake switch, they changed the switch and told me that the problem was repaired that I should not experience it again. I am reporting this to your agency because this is a life threatening situation having no brake lights and shifter locking into place without any warning. I feel the car should be recalled.
