My 2014 hyundia Elantra sport 2. 0l engine threw a rod with only 101300 miles. The car had a lot of value because it was running great and was in better than good condition until now. To replace the engine was going to cost between $8k to $10k. Reading on the internet hyundia 2. 0l engines are experiencing a lot of engine failures like this. The mechanic shop where I took it called two hyundi-kia dealership to see if my Elantra engine was under hyundia recall, both said it wasn't. Now I am forced to look for a new car and figure out how to recoup some loss from my eltantra. In the future I will never consider another hyundia-kia car because of engine issues.

5 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

I am the second owner of a 2014 Hyundai Elantra that now has 72,000 miles on it. After experiencing recent issues within the engine of this vehicle, I took it to dave hallman Hyundai in erie, PA where it was determined that the vehicle needed an engine replacement. It was also decided that I would pay the costs of the labor, which totals $2,345. During this experience I have found that Hyundai sonatas, sante fes, and Elantras across the country are experiencing the same issue. As a matter of fact, when I initially took my vehicle to a local mechanic, employees were also working on a santa fe that had experienced engine failure, leading me to question the quality of these vehicles when the issue is so prominent. In the past 4 years I have bought two vehicles from Hyundai, but for reasons beyond my control, have had to replace the first and now potentially the second. Moreover, I have been without a vehicle for four weeks now. I was informed a case manager could assist me, but of the multiple Hyundai representatives, none were able to provide even a phone number. Eight days after representatives told me the case had been submitted, the case manager contacted me only to tell me he could offer no assistance. I was not informed my case would be deemed void in two days, but just happened to call and check. I understand Hyundai maintains policies around the service that can and cannot be provided to second owners. I also understand that as a second owner, my vehicle's warranty would have expired 12,000 miles ago. However, I am asking that Hyundai correct its mistake and pay full price for selling a defected product that inhibited the safety, reliability, and quality of my vehicle. There is no reason my car should have completely failed this early on. I do not feel Hyundai's customers are responsible for paying to correct such a prominent mistake.

6 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2018

There is a recall on 2011-14 Hyundai sonata's and santa fe's, Elantra's should also be included with this recall. The engine failed on our 2014 Elantra as my 16 year old son was taking it to the dealership to get an oil change. Hyundai is replacing the engine, and extending the warranty. However I want to insure that Elantras are considered as part of the recall.

7 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

Engine failure due to oil shavings damaging engine. Manufacturer skipped a step in this process. Engine ticks when accelerating and shakes. Manufacturer even diagnosed the engine needing replacement but will not replace it under warranty because I am the second owner. I have maintenanced the vehicle regularly and kept it in good condition.

8 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2018

At 75,000 miles, the engine started knocking. I contacted a Hyundai dealer and they told me that the engine is no good anymore. They said it has "internal engine failure". I changed the oil on schedule. A well kept engine shouldn't die with that few miles on it.

9 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2017

Sudden engine failure due to excessive metal. Car was operating normally on highway when suddenly oil pressure light began flashing on and off. This was followed by knocking which got progressively louder over short period. Rolled into service station to find engine blown. Service station suggested towing to Hyundai for evaluation. Hyundai dealership tore down engine to find "significant" metal and blown cylinder. Hyundai refuses to acknowledge this is a defect.
