2 Steering problem of the 2008 Hyundai Entourage

Failure Date: 09/29/2019

While turning left at an intersection, I heard a loud bang and lost steering control. I pulled over to the side of the road and called for a tow to my mechanic. The passenger side front wheel was displaced, the 2 front wheels were not parallel and the wheel had hit the front bumper cover causing it to come loose. The tow driver noted that the lower control arm snapped. Front passenger wheel was hitting the front bumper cover as it was pulled onto the flat bed. I called Hyundai corp and local dealer on following day (Monday). I tried to get direction regarding inspection of vehicle. Since an additional tow could cause more damage; I asked if Hyundai could inspect at the local shop. I could not get any direction on how to get the car inspected. On the 3rd call I was advised that safety recalls are only covered for 1 year after the recall service. When I asked if I needed to contact NHTSA, jack indicated that since I mentioned NHTSA he is required to pass the case to a sr Hyundai representative and that I would receive a response very soon. I have not received any return call or other communication from anyone at Hyundai corp or the local dealer. The attached pics show the front passenger side lower control arm corrosion and failure. The recall service performed in 2014 was obviously not adequate. The sudden loss of control was a horrifying feeling. I am hopeful that NHTSA will take appropriate action so that others are not continued to be put in peril. I understand there have been numerous other occurrences of lower control arm failure in vehicles that were serviced under the recall. Note that my vehicle was serviced for the recall at freehold Hyundai shortly after I received notice.

3 Steering problem of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

While driving to work yesterday morning, I was turning off a side road onto a main road. As soon as I turned on to the main road the van sounded like maybe it had a flat, it did not. Both esc lights came on and stayed on. The steering and braking was erratic and there was no pick up. I could not get the wheels to turn the same direction as the steering wheel for a short period of time moving into on coming traffic. Luckily I was able to get short period of control, enough to barley turn into a parking lot. I am so fortunate this didn't happen on the highway at 55mph or could have been horrific. I did call Hyundai and there are several recalls for the van including the front control arms. I asked if they can tow to the nearest dealer considering I just avoided an accident and had no control. Hyundai will not tow to the dealer. They did offer to reimburse me if I tow it, but that does not help me currently. This is a very serious situation and needs to be rectified by Hyundai before a driver is not able to avoid an accident due to having no pick up or control of the steering.

4 Steering problem of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

While driving approx. 30 mph (moving straight; not turning) a noise was heard, the front of the vehicle seemed to drop, and both steering and brakes became erratic. The van, still acting up, made it to a parking lot, where a visual inspection of the front driver's side wheel well indicated what I believe to be a broken control arm (see photo). This is a known issue with this vehicle, and late in 2013 there was a recall (# 13v556000). Vehicle owners were advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for and inspection and either rustproofing or replacement of the control arms. On 1/20/14, the vehicle underwent this process and reported "inspected, waxed, and undercoated as per campaign" (see excerpt from invoice). No damage to the control arms was reported by the dealer's service shop. Had I been informed of a damaged part during the "inspection", I would have chosen to replace it, as this is apparently vital to keeping control of the vehicle. Over the past several weeks, I have done a lot of highway driving. Had this happened at 65 or 70 mph, rather than at the 30 mph in the city, the outcome could have been disastrous. A police officer showed up to help and took down my name - I do not know if a formal report will be filed. .

5 Steering problem of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage

Failure Date: 03/03/2017

6 Steering problem of the 2008 Hyundai Entourage

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

The vehicle has begun vibrating significantly upon acceleration and at higher speeds. I have since had the tires rotated multiple times and balanced. I finally took the vehicle in to the dealership this week (7/8/14) and they recommended front brake repair a replacement engine intake (unsure of the actual name) that should take care of the problem. After almost $400 in repairs already, their post installation test derive revealed the same vibration issues. They have now suggested that they have identified massive deterioration in the right axle an that now needs to be replaced. From my research on message boards, this is a problem that seems to exist on Hyundai entorage models and kia sedona minivans from the same year. The vehicle is less than a year outside of warranty. Since this seems to be a pervasive issue with this model and a manufacturer safety concern, since the the axle is not a part that should be subject to this type of normal wear an tear after only 52k miles, I am requesting that the repairs be completed at no charge to me vs the $800 requested by the dealer.

7 Steering problem of the 2008 Hyundai Entourage

Failure Date: 03/08/2013

This is a complaint about the cambers on this vehicle. On many occasions since buying this vehicle I have experienced the following in left hand turns at 45 - 55 mph. When trying to pass a vehicle, when I turned the steering wheel to the left to move into the left passing lane something jerked the wheel further to the left and has nearly caused me to run off the road on the other side. The first time it happened at about 20,000 miles. This has also happened when traveling down the mountains in west virginia in sharp left hand turns . My concern is that this may be caused by the cambers. Every time I take my van to have the tires rotated I am told the cambers hold the tires at an angle and there is not adjustment for it. They are permanently at an angle and have been ever since I bought the vehicle. I have asked the dealership about the problem and the only thing they will tell me is there are no aftermarket parts to fix it, and that it cannot be adjusted. Because there are no adjustment, this vehicle wears out tires long before the tread life is up. The first set of tires had to be replaced at 25,000 miles. Tire manufactures will not give credit against mileage because of the cambers. Now due to the heavy corrosion underneath, and no camber adjustments I feel this vehicle is unsafe.

8 Steering problem of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage

Failure Date: 06/14/2007

Purchased this new Hyundai Entourage on 6/12/ 07 and reported to the dealership on 6/14/07 that this new vehicle has a serious front end vibration and pulls to the left. This vehicle has now been at the dealers service department on 12 occasions for 33 days and the vibration has not been corrected. We consider this vehicle unsafe to drive at highway speeds. The steering is very sensitive and you have to over steer the vehicle to prevent it from drifting to the left. My wife almost lost control of this vehicle when she relaxed her grip on the steering wheel when negotiating a long bend in the road. The car veered sharply to the left. If another car had been in the other lane a very serious accident would have occurred. My wife will no longer drive this vehicle on the highway. The dealership has replaced and balanced four new tires, skimmed the brake rotors and verified that the vibration and pulling to the left has not been corrected. Internet web sites complaint pages for the Hyundai Entourage revealed at least 100 complaints for this vibration problem and Hyundai has not resolved the problem.
