My father is currently looking after my vehicle and while he was doing routine checks when went to depress the brake petal it sank all the way to the floor. He later took it to a mechanic who then bleed the system a few times only to find out that the front right brake and rear left brake are operating as normal. As it would turn out, however, Hyundai issued a recall for this but only for the Genesis sedans and not the coupes. Hyundai recall #114 and NHTSA recall #13v489000 state the brake fluid the manufacture uses does not protect the h. E. C. U. Or hydraulic electronic control unit (a. K. A. Abs control unit) against internal corrosion. So the internal valves will corroded and prevent the brakes from operating properly. In my 2011 Genesis coupe this is currently the issue. Other coupe owners are having similar issues where they can't stop the car proper and/or the brake petal sinks to the floor at random times while driving slow or at highway speeds and the brake don't operate properly or at all! the manufacture seems to be aware of the issue but won't do anything about it. Replacing the master cylinder and completely bleeding the system doesn't have any affect for the issue. To replace the unit, I'm looking at roughly $3,200 of my own money to replace the h. E. C. U due to defective brake fluid that has corroded the internals. The car has barely been driven with less about 30k miles on it. This a grave safety concern and Hyundai needs to address the issues for not just the sedans but the coupes as well! if I or the driver of my car needed to make an emergency stop there is no telling if the brakes would operate in that moment as they should. Injury or death could occur for not just the driver but other casualties that could be prevented if Hyundai fixes this issue for all Hyundai Genesis coupes. Brake operation is vastly important in all vehicles. This problem is serious.
My 2011 Genesis sedan (4. 6l v8) has an increasingly soft, spongy brake pedal past year or so. This occurs while driving in/out of my neighborhood, on busy NJ highways, and when parked with engine running. Had rotors, pads, master cylinder and brake fluid replaced recently (~2 months ago; $1200; receipts available). Did not solve the problem. I feel unsafe driving the car and putting me/other drivers at risk. From researching the problem, including recently learning about the recall of 2009-2012 models for brake problems, I am guessing that either the brake booster and/or abs brake module are failing. I bought the car new and am its only owner. Car has only 73,000 careful miles on it. I'm reluctant to spend any more money. What can I do?.
My brake pedal is going all the way down to the floor it used to do it every once in a while but now it is a constant thing. The car does stop but it feels really mushy, I took the car to the dealership and was told that it was a master brake cylinder, however after reading online a lot off people have the same issue and replacing the master cylinder isn't the problem.
My h. E. C. U. Is failing just like the recall 13v48900 states. . My brakes have on three occasions failed which almost resulted in a serious accident. I brought this to Hyundai attention. But they tell me there's nothing they can do about it. It's on me. Now my car is up for inspection and it won't pass because of this isue. . It will cost me $500. 00 for the mechanic to replace the master cylinder just to pass inspection. . . If there's a defect in the fluid which causes corrostion, and now the master cylinder and h. E. C. U. Are not holding pressure. . The recall states this is a common problem,,why do I have to made pay for something that is a well documented defect. . If I or a member of my family get into an accident Hyundai has been made aware of issue.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while making a left turn at 10 mph the contact depressed the brake pedal, and the brake went all the way to the floor before coming to a complete stop. The contact drove the vehicle to to west broad Hyundai 8903 w broad st richmond va 23294. The dealer stated the electric hydraulic and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and could not offer any further assistance. The failure mileage was 215,000 am.
After a brake job, I took the car back to say that the pedal was going to the floor. I was told I had a leak in the master cylinder. Got that repaired. After having the master cylinder repaired, I am now being told I have to replace the hydraulic electronic control unit (abs, hecu). Did some research, and saw that this was a recall issue for 48,000 Genesis between the years of 2008 and 2012. Issue seems to be caused by brake fluid corrosion. My car was not part of the recall. I reported the initial issue at 64,000 miles. Car is now at 80,000. It has been sitting at the dealership because it had an engine replaced covered under warranty.
The brake pedal on the subject car, Hyundai Genesis 2011, became too soft (mushy) when pressed down. No braking action until the pedal is within 1" from the floor. After checking with the dealer, and two other reputable auto repair shops, we had the brake master cylinder replaced at $380 at one shop but that did not fix the problem. I searched the internet and found that the dealer, in 2013, had complaints about similar brake problem on Genesis cars, made between 2008 and 2012, and the dealer found and replaced the "corrosive" brake fluid at no charge on over 27,000 cars - I am sure it is a matter of time when our car, the 2011 Genesis, will show the same problem, and should be dealt with the say way. . This has happened a total of 4 times since I have owned the car. The first happened a few months after purchasing the car, when trying to stop from 40mph at a red light. The brakes failed and I ran the red light avoiding any accident. I drove approximately 25 more miles with no occurrence the rest of the way home. Next morning when driving into the gas station as I hit the driveway entrance approximately 15mph I was braking and then brakes went to the floor and I had to pump the brakes several times before the pressure came back and I finally stopped. I turned around drove it to the dealer with no other issues along the 8 mile drive. Dealer checked all normal issues drove it themselves and were not able to find ?duplicate the complaint?. Approximately 8 months later after driving 25 miles on the freeway I was exiting my exit to work slowing down at approximately 30mph while braking and slowing down the brakes went to the floor and all pressure was lost I pumped the brakes and they worked. 2 weeks ago I was driving surface streets and while slowing down to make a right at a red light at about 30mph the brakes failed I had to pump the brakes again to regain pressure and I stopped as I rounded the corner into the cross walk. I have not been able to get it into the dealer yet. I have been driving a different car and parked this one until my schedule allows me to take it to the dealer. I have been looking on the Hyundai forums for information and this appears to be on the forums a lot. Several have resulted in accidents, even a total loss of one person?s car. The forums are saying that there is a voluntary recall and it has to do with the master cylinder, dealer replaces as the complaints come in. I guess I will find out.
