Brake line on driver rear rusted and leaking above brake hose. Cannot drive vehicle safely with this leak. Would leak brake fluid each time I step on brake pedal. Problem magnified when car is on and brake booster is working. Vehicle not at dealer or mechanic yet, but link to video of driver rear brake line leaking on 1-31-2026: [xxx] service campaign 991 [xxx] ) was completed less than two years ago on Feb 19, 2024 (today is 1/31/2026). See note about "dealer will apply an anti-corrosion treatment to certain parts, and *replace the brake lines if necessary*" not told about any rust, nor any parts replaced. Link to service campaign quote: [xxx] no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms of the problem. Assumed wheel liner covered brake line from salt. Vehicle is located in [xxx] and I suspect other brake lines are also rusted out. Would like manufacturer to replace all brake lines under warranty. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I am submitting this letter as a formal safety defect complaint regarding my 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5. 0 sedan, which is experiencing braking system behavior that directly mirrors the defect described in Hyundai recall campaign 114 (NHTSA campaign 13v489000), despite my vehicle not being included by VIN. Although excluded by VIN, the functional failure mode matches recalled vehicles, indicating the defect population may extend beyond the original VIN range. The vehicle exhibits the following symptoms: 1. Excessive and inconsistent brake pedal travel 2. Soft and spongy brake pedal feel 3. Highly variable brake biting point 4. Requirement to pump the brake pedal to obtain normal braking 5. Unpredictable brake engagement during normal driving these symptoms are intermittent and occur without warning, significantly increasing stopping distance and reducing driver confidence. The behavior is consistent with internal hydraulic or hecu malfunction, which the original recall attributes to corrosion caused by improper brake fluid formulation. I am particularly concerned because I am a disabled driver, and any reduction in braking reliability presents an elevated safety risk. Unpredictable brake response materially affects my ability to operate the vehicle safely and to respond to emergency conditions. While Hyundai has limited the recall to certain VIN ranges, model years affected: 2009–2012 Hyundai Genesis sedans built April 30, 2008 – March 28, 2012. The braking behavior is functionally identical to recalled vehicles. This suggests the defect may not be limited to the originally identified production range and warrants further investigation. I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1. Review this complaint in the context of the existing recall 2. Evaluate whether the defect population should be expanded 3. Initiate further inquiry into VIN-excluded vehicles exhibiting identical symptoms 4. This issue represents a clear safety concern with potential for serious injury.
Kmhhu6kh1cu075635 it has been 6 months since a recall notice was sent indicating: fire risk when parked as of 3/9/2024, the recall is still marked: remedy not yet available this is unacceptable. What are my options to get this resolved immediately? bob seitz 503 789 2843.
Recall from 2014 under Hyundai Genesis bh over brake corrosion and leading to hecu /electrical / wheel stability/electrical wire problems /fire also immobilizer and safety I now have no dash or steering wheel controls believe car was broken into shows signs of elapsed time/fob and controls inside no longer work two fuses inside driver side panel spark even when car is not on took to springfield Hyundai they not only lied and stated my car isn’t under any recall but they stated online they did a safety inspection which is not true I just replaced rear brakes and after barely driving 1,000 miles the brakes are making a wearing metal noise and sound like they are bad again I even stated I had information for the immobilizer since Hyundai didn’t install on any of their vehicles until 2022 now I enter my VIN and it comes up under the 2 door coupe not the sedan (bh) also found archived article from car and driver about the fbi suing Hyundai in 2014 over the exact model and make 2012 Hyundai Genesis bh over brake corrosion accidents and hecu issues causing accidents and other electrical issues now I am scared worried and I am being ignored an neglected driving a car that clearly is not safe and putting my life in danger if I have a tampered VIN from theft of no immobilizer this is Hyundai negligence and now my VIN isn’t showing correctly for my make and model I need help I have videos of fuses sparking and printed recall info for my make and model under NHTSA safety investigations I have never received one recall notice from Hyundai in the mail since I am the owner since 2019 I also show dmv records of many registration transactions for years I owned vehicle I only get one registration per year some shows 2 & 3 prior owner of vehicle worked for a car dealership in woodbury even vehicle history reports aren’t correct.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard, and the vehicle failed to immediately stop. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the brake booster and brake master cylinder. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic) but the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 22,000.
Sep 22, 2023 manufacturer recall number251 NHTSA recall number23v651000 recall status: recall incomplete, remedy not yet available June, 2024 it has been 10 months since an alert from Hyundai to park this vehicle outside due to chance of fire. I need this car repaired or repurchased by Hyundai. 10 moinths is far too long for a repair.
Brakes are spongy/soft - my car has been inspected by a Hyundai dealership and an abs control module replacement has been recommended at cost of $2901. A safety recall campaign was issued in 2012 to include "certain 2009-2012my Genesis (bh) produced from April 30, 2008 to March 28, 2012 (recall #114). On may 9, 2022, TSB #22-br-001h-1 was issued. My car's VIN indicates that my car was produced March 30, 2012 and the repair under the "extended warranty" has been denied because my car was produced two days later and therefore not included in the safety recall. I have reached out to Hyundai and I have a case manager assigned to me.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving at 10mph, the brake pedal went to the floorboard while depressed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 181,000.
Brakes are spongy and do not engage properly.
Ecbm electronic control brake module malfunctioned at 78,500 miles and dealer could not fix because computer would not read anything. Cold have caused a serious accident if it had happened when driving.
If the brakes are hit hard and abs engages, the pedal immediately goes soft and stays soft braking is impared bu 50% until the abs module resets itself randomly but only after parking the car for a while. This has happened 2x to my car and there are multiple reports on the Genesis forums about the exact same issue.
Approached an exit from a parking lot and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor without applying the brake. Was able to pump the brake pedal and get the brakes to work. The pedal now is about half of what it used to be and requires pumping each time the brakes are used to apply the brakes. Pedal is erratic; sometimes I have about half pedal before a firm brake pedal. Other times it is even lower. I have no pictures or documentation to include that would be relevant to this issue.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated received a recall notification of NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and had the vehicle serviced at all star Hyundai (3950 century CT, pittsburg, CA 94565). The contact stated that one day after starting the vehicle, the brake pedal depressed to the floorboard without warning. The contact took the vehicle to dick hannah vw of portland (12345 e burnside st, portland, or 97233) where the hydraulic electric control unit was replaced due to the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
I own a 2012 Hyundai Genesis and experience a very low grip on my brake pedal. It has just been confirmed from a Hyundai dealership that the hecu is bad and needs to be replaced (11/20/19). Hyundai has recalled certain model year 2009-2012 Genesis sedans under recall 114 or NHTSA campaign 13v489 for the hecu. I have been told, however, that my VIN does not qualify for the safety repair. I find it highly unusual that I am experiencing the identical problem that so many other Genesis sedans have faced, yet am being denied the necessary repair. I am asking that my VIN be included in the recall as I am very concerned for my safety at this point. Keeping in mind the safety of others as well, all Genesis sedans made during 2009 and 2012 should be re-looked at again. It is a $3000 fix and I cannot tell you how unfair it is to know that other Hyundai Genesis owners have had their hecu's replaced under the recall. Why is their safety more important than mine?.
Driving home last night my entire braking system went out. I lost all control to use the brakes to stop and all indicator lights were lit up on the dashboard. I notice a recall issue with the hecu but looks like my vehicle is not included in the recall. Why is that?.
Having issues with brakes going all the way to floor. Have had them replaced and after a few months problem returns. Was this vehicle repaired as part of recall 114 NHTSA recall 13v489000.
Soft braking, intermittent. Pedal goes down to the floor and must be pumped to stop. I took it to my go-to guy who specializes in brakes and he couldn't recreate it. He took look at everything and couldn't find issue in the brakes themselves. Recently happened again.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. When the brake pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard. There was no warning indicator illuminated. Napleton's north palm Hyundai (3703 northlake blvd, lake park, FL 33403, 1-888-691-9402) was contacted and stated that the VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as the recall campaign. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The brake oil that was put into the car when made has cause the hecu to corrode. There was a recall on Hyundai Genesis sedans this year, if the coupes were effected too why wouldn't there be a recall? the brakes are spongey. They are unreliable and very unsafe. Brakes work when they want and are choppy.
Experiencing intermittent brake fade. When applying brake pedal, there is little to no brake pressure and pedal depresses all te way to floorboard. After pumping brake pedal, brake pressure will return. This occurs intermittently at any speed and driving condition.
~tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. While the contact was attempting to place the vehicle in drive and release the parking brake, the vehicle made a loud abnormal noise. The vehicle was towed to where the contact was informed that the motor for the electronic parking brake needed to be replaced and the brakes were faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.
Following a hard turn which activated my electronic stability control (esc), I lost all pressure in my brake pedal and it sunk to the floor. This is following a near-accident in which I had to engage my abs system by slamming on the brakes to avoid an accident. Ever since that abs activation, my brake pedal has not felt the same. It takes more effort to stop now and you have to push the pedal farther than usual to get brake activation. I can recreate the problem by getting the esc to activate again if I spin the tires on a hard turn. Immediately after doing so, I will no longer have any braking power or pedal pressure. Hyundai refuses to accept responsibility for this because even though my vehicle is within the affected production years, they claim my VIN does not qualify for the recall. The recall was campaign 114 which eventually turned into a mandatory recall. The potentially affected years range from 2009-March 28th 2012. My vehicle was made January 10th, 2012. Therefore it should qualify but they claim it will not. I am afraid for my safety and Hyundai needs to own up to their mistakes and fix my problem before I die from it. The 3 instances I've had the issue have all occurred while making a hard right turn with low traction and the esc light flashes meaning the abs was indirectly activated. After this turn and esc activation, there will be no pressure in the brakes until it gets pumped several times. Sometimes I will have no brake pressure in the pedal until I've stopped 3 or 4 times and pumped the brakes.
2012 Genesis sedan consistently stalls under medium to low speeds while braking or making a turn. All warning lights come on and loss of steering and braking occurs. Car is difficult to control safely without use of emergency brake due to the loss of steering/braking. This incident now occurs with each car trip while traveling on all kinds or roads and at various speeds but not more than 40 miles an hour. I am worried for the safety of my wife and 3 year old child since I take them everywhere with me. Car has been at Hyundai dealership for 4 days and they can not diagnose the problem because there are no fault codes to look up.
The vehicle was in motion in a busy commercial area. When the brakes were depressed the pedal went to the floor and slowing of the vehicle was impaired. To stop the vehicle required pumping the brakes to return some pedal pressure. The car was driven home and over the course of several stops (pumping the brakes) the pedal force returned to near normal. I am making an appointment to have the car serviced by a dealer.
While braking at a stop light, the brake pedal went to the floor and I lost anti-lock function and had to press hard on the pedal to stop. The problem persisted for a day or two, then went back to normal. After about a week, the same problem occurred. After researching this issue, I found numerous cars had the same problem, yet it seems Hyundai refuses to take responsibility. There is a recall NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000, however when I run my VIN #, no recalls are listed. My car is a 2012 Hyundai Genesis.
Car turned off by itself while driving. Steering and braking were affected and not working.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that they would have to depress the brake pedal with a lot of force in order to get the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic where they diagnosed that the hydraulic electronic control unit needed to be replaced. The dealer antwerpen Hyundai of clarksville 12440 auto dr, clarksville, MD 21029 stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 99,998. Am.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while being operated at various speeds the vehicle's brakes were depressed however it required an extended braking distance in order to be stopped. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed the brakes were soft however no further repair diagnostics were given to the contact due to them making them aware of NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000( service brakes, hydraulic). Harrisonburg Hyundai located 2811 s main st, harrisonburg, va was called however the contact was advised the campaign was not attributed to their VIN. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 77086. Kh.
Sometime the transmission shift very hard while driving,it has a wild unexpected jerk.
My brake pedal became soft and sponge without any warning signal. I had to press brake pedal all the way down to floor in order to stop and it took much long distance to stop. Hyundai recalled my car back on 2013 and changed brake fluid. At that time I had no brake problem. I think they must recall for this terrible manufacturing default before anyone get into accident.
Brake pedal goes to the floor with very little stopping power. In an emergency stop situation, the car would not be able to stop to avoid an accident.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. While driving 35 mph, the brake pedal had to be depressed to the floorboard and the vehicle eventually stopped. At every stop, the contact had to pump the brake pedal to build up the pressure. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (nalley Hyundai, 7909 mall pkwy, lithonia,GA, 30038) where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic electronic control unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who confirmed the same failure and informed the contact of the recall. The mechanic recommended the contact go back to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that there was a recall per NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes); however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not reference the recall. Due to the warranty and because the vehicle exceeded the mileage, the repair would not be covered. The failure mileage was approximately 77,175.
Engine shutdown and lost steering and brake control when making a right turn. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Details: on both the times, when I was trying to make a right turn at a slow speed the engine shut down and I lost control of steering was well as brakes. I had to put the car in park, in the middle of the intersection and push button to start the car again. Luckily there was nothing in the way (car or a pedestrian), or else there would have been an accident. This could be an even dangerous issue if this happens when making a left turn or when on a freeway. Please issue a recall for this, and have Hyundai fix this problem.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Genesis. The contact stated that while at a stop light the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration. During the incident the brakes malfunctioned and would not immediately stop the vehicle when pressing the brake pedal. Moments later the engine back fired and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer hyundia of coconut creek who diagnosed that the engine valve was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 65,000. Jft.
Brake pedal wants to go to the floor nearly at times, before the car begins to stop, with less than 48,000 miles on the car. Issue just started doing this, right after my last service appointment, where I was advised that my front brakes needed to be replaced and that my warranty had ended a month earlier. This problem points to a possible $2600 hecu unit problem. Amazing how this started right after I had service performed. Please investigate and have all 2012 Hyundai Genesis vehicles recalled to have the brake fluid changed, new brake booster, and the hecu module replaced at the same time, before someone gets killed.
