1 Wiring problem of the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Daytime running lights(drl) and front turn signal bulbs burn out very frequently due to the fact they are the same filament in the bulb even though they require a dual filament bulb. The wiring harnesses also show significant signs of overheating. This is a very widely-known issue in the online forums for this car and is a completely unsafe issue. The drivers side bulb is easy to replace, but the passenger side is not. I have replaced the drivers side 3 times and the passenger side 2 times in the last year. Between bulbs and mechanic fees for the passenger side, I have spent $200-$300 in the last year maintain this unsafe problem.

5 Wiring problem of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

Complaint: total loss of vehicle due to electrical wiring harness failure. After recall 13v113000, 04/01/13, exterior lighting:brake lights: switch was fixed by dealership, we had repeated problems with interior lights failing, then with license plate light blowing out, and as time went on other electrical things not working- but only intermittently - would not repeat the problem when we had it looked at. Finally, at a city street stoplight, my husband driving and I am in passenger seat, I noticed wisp of smoke. Car then filled with smoke that smelled like burning electrical. Opened windows, seemed to clear, only a mile to destination, and nothing seemed wrong otherwise. When we stopped, checked all over vehicle and could not see problem. Car sat an hour. When time to leave, car would not go in gear, and dashboard warnings appeared. While car turned off, reverse lights came on and we could not make go off. Car towed to shop. Took two weeks for shop to figure out problem was in wiring harness along passenger front and rear. Many wires had insulation melted and/or charred, leaving them exposed and touching. Geico deemed the vehicle a total loss - even if the wiring harness was replaced, would still not know cause. Photos attached. I wanted to report this so if it is because of a common issue, maybe it would have the chance of being fixed so others might not lose their car to this problem.

6 Wiring problem of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

Hello NHTSA administrator, I bought a new Hyundai Genesis in March 2010. Around August 2010, I had a small fender bender in the parking lot. To keep warranty intact on the car, Hyundai insisted that the wiring harness on the car be replaced, which I did for approximately $5000. Since then, I have had multiple electronic items go bad in the car. I replaced some of these at my own expense. But the problem has gotten worse with some expensive electronic components going bad over the last 2 years. In normal circumstances, these components should not go bad over the life of the car, and certainly not at a frequency that they have failed in my car. I attribute these failures to bad/defective job done during wiring harness replacement. But Hyundai has refused to accept responsibility since the car is out of warranty. Below is a list of the bad components, approximate date of the component going bad, whether it is replaced/fixed and approximate expense to fix them 1. Telescopic steering wheel--2015--repaired as part of warranty 2. Power switch assembly driver's seat--Jan 2016--$236. 19--paid out-of-pocket to get it replaced 3. Jog dial assembly--oct 2016--$1031. 70--paid out-of-pocket to get it replaced 4. Front cabin dome light assembly--Feb 2017--$376. 91--paid out-of-pocket to get it replaced 5. Smart cruise control--Mar 2017--not replaced--dealership gave me a quote of ~$4500 to replace 6. Passenger cabin dome light assembly--Aug 2017--not replaced--$4500 estimate to replace 7. Multi disc cd player--Feb 2018--not replaced--$1000 estimate to replace I would like NHTSA to investigate Hyundai for this matter and force them to pay for repairs. As a consumer, I feed cheated and being forced to double pay for repairs - once for the wiring harness replacement and now for all problems attributed to it. Sincerely, abhishek.

7 Wiring problem of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

I began having this issue 10 days ago with my 2010 Genesis coupe. The concern I had was not only was the interior flickering but it resulted in my running night brake lights not working. I took the car to the dealer I'm at 62k miles just out of warranty. They ran diagnostic and thought it was a lose bracing for the wires. I picked it up and the issue began again. I took it in 4 days ago they then said it was a fuse switch issue and replaced it but the issue continued. They then said it may be a fuse box issue couple of hundred $$ or worst case a main issue with total wiring from internal fuse box and fuse box in the engine area which could run $2k! but no definite answer to what was causing this. The Hyundai representative said they even happen to have a senior electric engineer on location that day and he couldn't pinpoint exactly the problem.
