Failure Date: 01/25/2026

Many times a year, without warning, vehicle dash lights turn off and light up like a christmas tree, followed by fca warning sound and lights going off, and a loud mechanical thud. Lose engine throttle going highway speeds. This can occur at nearly any speed without warning. Car must be powered off and back on to get normalcy. This puts me, everyone in the car and everyone on the highway at risk. Dealership was not able to reproduce or pull error codes.

4 Warnings problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 06/17/2025

My wife was pulling into a parking place at home depot when the car suddenly accelerated, jumped the curb & hit a tree on the sidewalk. It did significant damage to the front bumper of the car but the airbags did not deploy & my wife was not hurt. I am guessing that it will be several thousand dollars to repair.

5 Warnings problem of the 2021 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 06/04/2025

There has been a continuous popping noise on the right side of the vehicle near the tire like it’s an axle or something with the suspension. It has been checked and I was told it was normal. The horn will stop working along with the radio and other components in the car. The forward front accident component will say I’ve been in an accident when I have not even been near a vehicle. This has happened on several occasions. I don’t have all specific dates.

7 Warnings problem of the 2019 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 06/23/2024

My check engine lights come on and then the front collision lights come on which reduces speed while on highway and then the engine turns off making it very unsafe driving on the highway. I have tried to schedule appts with dealerships to have it checked telling them how unsafe it is and I need my car to get to work. But they never have any openings except months down the road. I am afraid it will cause a terrible accident. I have taken my vehicle to repair shops . . . Some said it was the spark plugs so I got them changed and other maintenance costing me over $800 and the problem still exists . . . Still trying to get an appt with the dealership which will cost me another $220 just to get it diagnosed. There need to be a recall if it's happening to alot of people. I am very afraid if this issue isn't fixed and it's gonna cost me to repair it in the thousands that I don't have. Someone is going to get into a bad accident because the engine will turn off while driving.

9 Warnings problem of the 2023 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 06/02/2024

Forward safety mode is the default setting on every time you start the vehicle and this mode when entering from side streets or any strip center or lane into on coming traffic lanes the vehicle senses you crossing the road lines and kills the accelerator ! when trying to enter onto the main road even if you allow enough time to accelerate to pull out onto main road : the vehicle thinks you are off raod or in some sort of danger and kills the accelerator and if you think fast enough after the 2-3 second delay you can floor the accelerator and the vehicle will then start picking up after a dangerous delay that can get someone t-boned and very serious accident if not possible death. Its a very dangerous function. Note: I manually go in and turn this forward safety to warning only or off. I use the warning but the real problem is you have to do this upon every start after turning the engine off. I think this needs to be seriously looked into. If you dont turn to warning setting and go to say pull out of a store onto the highway and dont leave enough time to avoid on coming traffic and or you freeze due to no accelleration you are in deep trouble and maybe an accident !! or death. .

10 Warnings problem of the 2019 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 05/12/2024

Driving on the highway (rt50 east) during rain. Traffic moving stop and go slow. Before I knew what had happened, my car hit the back bumper of a chevy suburban. My car gave no auto warning, the windshield wipers barely worked, and I believe the electric systems had stopped. Radio and air-conditioning. 5-12-24 my car bumper and grill were messed up. And I received pain in my right shoulder. The suburban had a trailer hook-up jammed inside my front bumper grill; my vehicle received all the damage. The other driver's vehicle had no harm. My vehicle damage to the car was over a thousand dollars. And I was left with a shoulder injury. Car insurance paid for the damage to my 2019 Hyundai Kona SUV's all-wheel drive, with me paying a portion. After work was completed, all the electrical systems, including air conditioning, lights, wipers, and radio, didn't work. Fuse work was checked and found, but no power was getting into the system to operate functions that required electricity. The car started up, but the side lights but not the front lights, air conditioning, and the issue of tight steering now. The car tech stated they only installed a new bumper, and the grill did not work on the areas that are now not working. Tech said the lights and wipers were working but are not working now. Driving the vehicle will be limited based on these issues. The fuses appear good, but no power is getting into the box that powers the various items that are not working. I believe this car is a lemon, and the dealership was aware of these issues and never told me the car had recalls. According to the internet, the tech who replaced my bumper stated that these issues are what the 2019 Hyundai Kona vehicle. Today (7-22-24), I drove my car from the auto shop with a new bumper and with hesitation and fear because the wipers and lights were not working, the air conditioning was out, and it is about to rain. The tech stated they were working earlier but are not working now.

11 Warnings problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 04/09/2024

I am concerned about the safety of my car and have little faith that there are qualified mechanics who understand evs and can properly service an ev car. Two times on April 9, 2024 (and on at least 4 other occasions in 2023) while drive at approximately 45 miles an hour on a ri state highway at a safe distance from any care in front of me, my vehicle went into the fail-safe mode while I was driving causing a sudden significant loss of power to the car and it appeared to be that it was going to stall. There was no warning sound indicating that I was going to crash into the forward vehicle (again, I was at a safe distance). In order to continue driving, I had to pull onto the road shoulder, shut off the car, which seemed to reset it. On this particular day/occasion, this situation occurred twice in the span of about 10 minutes. Had there been anyone driving right behind me, they would have hit my car. In addition, I brought my car to the dealer to address but the dealership did not know how to fix/address my problem. They did find "multiple codes" in the car history, deleted the codes, and test drove the car. They said if it happened again, to let them know. They also told me if it occurred again, then I should bring it in when the 1 and only technician, who knows anything about the ev cars, was working. I took a photo of the dashboard immediately after one of the episodes while the car was still running before I shut if off. I will attach it.

12 Warnings problem of the 2018 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

My vehicle suffered a tire blowout on 6/27/21. It was determined to be caused by ripped beading on the inner and outer part of the tire. It was also said that the damage to the tire occurred at time of initial install by improper mounting and balancing of the wheels and tired. The tires were 235/55/r17 kelly a/s edge m+s tubeless radial tires manufactured in mexico. The tires were placed on vehicle by the dealer. My safety was put at risk because 1) the tires were not manufacture recommended oem tires. 2) no warning indicator illuminated on the dash to indicate the tire was loosing pressure. The vehicle then a month 1/2 later caught fire. Prior to the fire several warning malfunction indicators illuminated. In addition to what was apparent electrical haywire, causing alarm sounds ( beeping), flashing lights, and warning indicators illuminating throughout the dash. The vehicle is said to be a 2018 Hyundai Kona petrol. Although at time of purchase and fire was equipped with a lithium ion 20h battery. I was told an inspection was done in August of 2021 by Hyundai motor of America after fire and veing towed to the local Hyundai dealer, however to date 3/2024 am still denied the report and gave never been allowed to have it. The fire said to have been caused by audio installation faulty wiring to a subwoofer secured in the back of the vehicle which coincidentally was also stolen due to the repair dealer facing to secure the vehicle during repairs. The repair facility provided a work order that only listed 2 parts replaced which were two main wiring harnesses. In addition to the wire harnesses that the repair dealer is said to have replaced, there were other documented changes and replaced parts not mentioned, listed or detailed on any repair order. The original lithium ion battery had been replaced. Two- 50v main relay fuses in the relay box located in the engine compartment had been replaced. Prior to fire read hmml, after repairs read pbd01. Prt. 1of3.

13 Warnings problem of the 2021 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 10/27/2023

The 2021 Kona sel plus at awd suddenly changed into the manual low gear and abruptly stalled in traffic. The Kona was stopped at a traffic light. When the traffic light turned green and the car was driven, the Kona's transmission seemed to switch into the manual low gear creating a high rpm. After it crossed the intersection, the Kona stalled and stopped abruptly in traffic. Shortly thereafter, the car was restarted and it went back to driving normally. The Kona was taken to the dealership but they could not find any code. So they say without a code, they can not do anything. This is a serious safety problem. I have a video of the incident. I have contacted Hyundaiusa and they will not do anything without a code.

14 Warnings problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 09/02/2023

Loud beep then a warning that collision warning had been disabled and the side mirrorsno longer indicated someone was beside me. . First time it's done this and I was on the way to the dealer for service. I mentioned to him and he said it was probably the light rain we had and it had blocked the camera. On the way home it did the same thing and now it was sunny, clear and they had just washed my car. So back to the dealer to have them actually check the sensor.

15 Warnings problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

I was driving on the highway and there was no one around me and the forward collision warning went off. The car then braked on my behalf going 70 mph on the highway. This has happened twice so far.

16 Warnings problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 12/28/2022

I have a 2020 Kona se awd and have a problem with a check forward collision sensor error that happens infrequently. When it happens, you get a ding then on the dash in a large graphic "check forward collision sensor" then bang the brakes are applied for a split second and the car violently drops into a lower gear and revs until you turn the car off and "reset" the system. This has happened 4 times in the last 2 thousand miles. Been to the dealer twice and they cannot recreate the problem, so they can not fix anything. When this happens, its feels like a collision. It is scary and magnified at highway speed. It has happened at highway speed and low speed, both day and night.

17 Warnings problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 03/26/2021

Front-collision warning light kicks on while going 45-50mph. No obstructions. Brakes engage, stuck in 4th gear. Must pull over and restart car to reset. Occurs intermittently, but has happened at least weekly for the last 6 weeks. In and out of dealer several times. Brand new vehicle.

18 Warnings problem of the 2020 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 03/09/2021

While on the highway, a message "collision detection system failure" flashed on the instrument panel, and the brakes slammed on full, followed by the transmission stuck in 4th gear. I had to leave the highway, and power off the engine - effectively rebooting the car. I continued on to work but I shut off the collision detection system, which has to be set at each power cycle. This has happened to my car 3 times, twice on the highway. Dealer service downloaded logs with no indication of the problem.

19 Warnings problem of the 2019 Hyundai Kona

Failure Date: 02/08/2020

After I had the car for about 10 months, the front collision warning system light came on while I was driving 65mph. There was a huge jolt, as if I'd hit something large and metal, and the engine revved as if stuck. I pulled over and found nothing in the road. It was terrifying, and I can't imagine it's safe to have this keep happening. This has happened numerous times now, at different speeds and in all types of weather, and sometimes accompanied by the blind spot collision warning system light. The dealership has kept my car many times, trying to replicate the problem, which they did-once. They replaced the camera and tcu. The car worked fine for a while, but the problem returned, and again, the dealership could not replicate or fix it. I have seen this problem mentioned on Hyundai forums, and it seems we're all having the same experiences with dealerships finding and fixing the issue. I turn the fcw system off every time I start the car, but now the bscw (which I have also turned off) is coming on and jolting the car. Both warning systems have done this too many times to count at this point. I can't afford a new car and am scared to drive my Kona, but don't have a choice. This is not right and I do not feel safe in this car.
