I was driving, the car was making a noise and shaking. No warning lights were on indicating anything wrong. All of a sudden the entire car lost power while I was driving highway speeds. I tried to turn back on and everything was flashing. Turned back off. Turned on and car turned on. Still making noise. No warning lights. Then it happened again while driving. Got the car home parked. It’s lucky that no one hit me as I wasn’t moving on a highway and had my child in the car.
I have been having an issue with my 2021 Hyundai Palisade's engine oil consumption. It is constantly burning oil at a high rate, requiring me to purchase oil constantly. I had it serviced at Hyundai in gurnee, IL. An oil consumption test was conducted. Hyundai corporate stated that my vehicle's engine was not burning oil at the required rate, which prompted an engine replacement. I reached out to corporate because the issue is persisting, but they never responded to my concern. This issue is costing me a significant amount of money, as I have to purchase oil without a remedy from Hyundai regarding my engine oil consumption. As a consumer, it's frustrating because I left without answers on an issue they definitely know about.
Moving portion of panoramic sunroof glass exploded outwards while driving 60 mph. Loud noise and glass could have injured driver, caused an accident, or damaged surrounding vehicles. The dealership has inspected and denied responsibility. There was no warning or indication of the issue, the vehicle had passed state safety inspection a month prior and was serviced at the dealership 6 months prior.
The sunroof failed to totally open or close after an initial engagement. Further inspection revealed the sunroof wind deflector frame slides and shoes were broken, and cables were loose and out of position. Keep in mind, the sunroof has been used only a handful of times. After doing some research and learning Palisades had a history of exploding sunroofs, I worried that continuing to drive the car in a compromised condition (even a covered film to keep wind and rain out) would trigger the sunroof to do the same, putting my grandchildren in danger. After taking it to the dealer and having them confirm a TSB issued by Hyundai to address this very issue, I also learned it would not be a covered expense. Repair would run $3,000, a hefty consumer expense for a recognized flaw and safety hazard by the manufacturer.
The vehicle is experiencing a transmission failure that causes sudden jerking, hesitation, and loss of smooth acceleration when the engine reaches approximately 1,500–2,000 rpm. When driving under normal conditions on both city roads and highways, the transmission appears to slip or fail to properly engage or shift gears within this rpm range. When this occurs, the vehicle jerks violently and momentarily loses power, creating a dangerous driving situation. This happens while accelerating in traffic and when attempting to maintain speed. The sudden hesitation and loss of proper transmission engagement creates a serious safety concern because the vehicle may not respond properly to acceleration, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or crash, especially when merging onto highways or driving in traffic. This issue occurs regularly and has become progressively worse over time, indicating a potential transmission defect rather than a one-time malfunction. The problem was inspected and documented by bill luke marana dealership in tucson, arizona. During their inspection, diagnostic data showed abnormal transmission input and output speed readings, confirming irregular transmission operation. The dealership marked the concern as requiring immediate attention. There were no consistent warning lights prior to the failure, despite the severity of the symptoms. The vehicle and the dealership diagnostic documentation are available for inspection upon request.
Child safety lock failure. When activating the child safety lock, it continously lock and unlocks, making a clicking noise. The lock is ultimately disengaged after which an error notification is displayed: child safety lock failure. It's been going on for at least 6 mo the now.
Leaking coolant: I have noticed that the coolant tank is empty a couple of days before and took it to the dealership and filled that. In 24hrs I saw the level went from full to lower level (so there is certainly leak happening. However, the dealership in not able to identify leak after 7-8 hrs testing. What is wrong with Hyundai Palisade 2021? I am not sure if it is safe to drive.
The engine has been intermittently cutting off every day. We have taken it to the dealership multiple times, and they say they cannot recreate the issue, so there is absolutely nothing that they can do. The vehicle will shake a little bit and then turn off.
Opened the sunroof and a loud popping sound followed by complete sunroof failure and a loud flapping sound from sunroof which appears to be from the sunroof wind deflector that is not attached I tried to take photos of this too, I pulled over and the sunroof has completely come off the runners on one side leaving it not flush to the roof, it was scary for myself and my child in the car, I did some research and found a technical service bulletin which I was not aware of even though I regularly maintain my vehicle at the dealership. I took it down the dealership who charged me $179 to tell me it was broken and put some plastic wrap on and told me as I’m 200 miles out of warranty that repairs are $3000, I have been in touch with Hyundai USA who don’t seem to care about this issue, vehicle is available for inspection, there was no warning at all I just opened the sunroof and this randomly happened also to add I have only used the sunroof a handful of times since I have owned the vehicle from brand new.
Child safety lock failure: this message displays on instrument panel upon immediate startup of vehicle and randomly after the child safety lock clicks on and off continuously. Child safety lock is stalled in a continuous lock and unlock clicking mode. This has happened while drving and after the car is in park and I am taking a child out of the car. After depressing child safety lock button on driver's door panel, the sound stops.
The tachometer on my 2021 Hyundai Palisade failed at 70,000 miles. The tachometer sometimes displays rpm at 0 and other times at 9000 during normal driving. The engine speed appears normal regardless of what the tachometer displays. The dealer diagnosed the problem requiring the cluster assy-instrument (part number 94001-s8640) to be replaced. I'm not sure if other information displayed on this screen is accurate or working properly. The vehicle is within the 5 year warranty but outside the 60,000 mile warranty. The dealer quoted $926. 75 for the part and $290 additional for labor.
Sun roof snaps cheap plastic parts. They produced a tbs for it yet expect people to pay over 4k in repairs for a common issue which is a major safety issue. (TSB) 23-bd-003h occurred 3 months after buying it certified.
Child safety lock failure (displayed on instrument panel upon immediate startup of vehicle). Child safety lock is stalled in a continuous lock and unlock clicking mode. After depressing child safety lock button on driver's door panel, the sound stops.
Unknown - on Sunday, June 1 2025, whilst driving west bound on the 408 tollway in orlando, FL, the sunroof of my car exploded and shattered. I was driving with the sunroof and sunshade closed. I was driving approx 70 miles an hour when I head an explosion, then heard glass spidering and then the glass bits falling on to the sunshade and also traveling down the roof of the car. I pulled over as quickly as I could. Looked at the back of the car I wanted to make sure nothing else happened to my car. When I climbed to look on top of my car, the sunroof had shattered. I took a small video. I immediately exited the freeway, and took side streets home. The entire way, I could hear glass bits dislodging and either hitting the sunshade or traveling off the roof. On the 408, there were only two passenger cars in front of me (no big trucks) and a few cars right behind me. No rocks bounced off anything to hit the sunroof. Traffic on the east bound side was very light also. 1. Yes, car can be inspected. Garage kept since Sunday June 1. 25. 2. Safety- if the sunshade would have been open, the sunroof would have shattered into the car, covering me with glass. 3. Appnt with dealer is thur June 12. 25 4. No- no one has seen the vehicle yet 5. No warning lights, just a huge explosion above my head.
This issue is concerning the sunroof. Hyundai released a TSB on the sunroof wind deflectors but not yet a recall even though so many people have been impacted by it. The TSB states: “ on certain Palisade (lx2) vehicles, the sunroof wind deflector may malfunction and cause damage to the sunroof mechanism. The sunroof may be inoperable and become stuck in the open, partially open, or closed position. ” mine became inoperable and would not close which could cause safety issues with wind noise, rain coming into the car and other debris.
The issue is with excessive oil consumption, unknown, SUV was taken to the dealership and that's when I was told what the issue was, just inspected by the dealership, warning was the truck was shaking abnormally.
In January 2025, during snowy weather, the windshield wipers on my 2021 Hyundai Palisade failed mid-operation and began making a buzzing noise. After 3–4 uses, they locked up and stopped functioning, causing a serious visibility issue. This occurred while driving, putting my safety at risk. This symptom directly matches NHTSA recall 23v-180 / Hyundai campaign 243, which I was told had already been addressed by the dealership I purchased from (fitzgerald Hyundai in gaithersburg, MD). I bought the vehicle used in April 2023, around the time this recall was active. I brought the vehicle back to that dealership in may 2025. They confirmed the wiper motors appeared to be binding and recommended replacement. However, they claimed the issue was not related to the recall and charged me a diagnostic fee of $209. Their service summary matches the defect described in the recall. I believe the recall fix was either never performed properly or did not actually resolve the underlying issue. This appears to be a recurring safety defect that puts drivers at continued risk.
I was driving down [xxx] and the moonroof glass exploded out of the roof into the traffic behind me information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was unable to use my seatbelt because the end that accepts the strap, would not allow the seatbelt to click in to the device. I had to drive without a seatbelt several miles. I tried probably 20 times to get it to click in before giving up. My husband was able to somehow reset the mechanism, and it appears to be working fine at the moment. But I fear I could get either locked in or out of the seatbelt in the future. There was no warning the seatbelt was having an issue prior to this event. Also, it appears my model, the 2021 Hyundai calligraphy is not included in the service bulletin campaign with the issue of a knock in the rear end (my noise is coming from the right rear area of the vehicle. Most likely the rear shock absorber, upper insulator. I'm not sure of the safety issue this will cause. Hyundai wants to charge me $160. 00 to tell me if that is what it is. Knowing the other models in this year have this issue my vehicle has approx. 68,000. 00 miles. They have told me my warranty expired at 60,000 miles.
I have a Hyundai Palisade complaint. Nhtsa id number: 11613395. I was trying to add additional information. The car stopped working again. It stops at intersections and won't start up. This time it wouldn't start at all. Had to be towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership. Since June this car has been at the Hyundai service center. The following parts have been replace. Transmission front axle bearing kit 3 ignition coils 5 spark plugs this time they are saying the reason the car stops and won't start is the "starter" needs to be replaced. Out of 6 months, this car has been at the service center for 3 months and multiple visits to the servcie center and three major repairs for the same issue. I want to know if others a having the same issues.
Upon opening the sunroof, two metal pieces flew off while driving and now the sunroof will not shut. The metal that flew off could’ve hit a car behind me. The car is available for inspection, upon request. Online and saw other people with similar stories and issues with the Palisade. I then called the dealer/repair shop and scheduled for repair roughly a week and a half out which was the earliest I could get it in. There were no alerts or warnings or any lights telling me there was an issue with this particular device.
The sunroof on the vehicle has completely broken with minimal use the vehicle is a 2021 and only one owner. This is an ongoing issue with the vehicle type and Hyundai is not covering the cost of repair. It is causing a significant hardship for vehicle use and the cost or repair is in the thousands. I am not the only vehicle owner that is having this issue and Hyundai needs to take accountability for this.
The trunk electrical. When I push the button the trunk fully opens as you are in the turn knit begins to close and has no sensor. I came down into the back of my neck so hard and caused injury . It didn’t it again to my 3 year old.
The hatch struts prevent the hatch door to close due to the broken plastic surrounding the struts. Both struts were replaced a year after the vehicle was purchased brand new and then a year later another broke and now they are broken again and in less than a year they are showing sign of hair line cracks, which will eventually causes the hatch door to get stuck sand it will not shut. Not only it’s a safety problem but also a very expensive piece of struts. For both to be replaced it will cost $2500-3000. This is a defect designed with cheap plastic. Please issue a recall immediately.
While driving at 65mph on interstate under mild weather conditions the front sunroof spontaneously exploded. There was an extreme loud pop sound followed by glass flying down the roof line and into the fortunately closed sun shade. There was no external impact to cause this and the sunroof mechanism was not being used. After pulling over for inspection a volleyball size hole was seen in front sunroof and the remaining pieces of fractured glass was bowed up suggesting the glass blew up and not down. Safety concerns from the loud pop sound startling driver and potential for glass to rain over driver and occupants if the sunshade is open. The dealer refused to look at the issue and suggested body shop for repair. There were no warning signs and not a driver related issue. There continue to be many incidents being reported here and I'm guessing countless that aren't. There is an issue with the manufacturer needs to address.
Child safety lock, making a clicking sound while engaged. When the lock is disengaged, the sound goes away. This sounds like a safety concern when you are trying to put on the child log for safety of your child.
The passenger side rear view mirror stop auto tilting when in reverse, even with the switch in left or right position. I also cannot manually adjust said mirror up or down, only left and right. At one point said mirror tilted downwards when reverse selected and never came back up. At first the issue seem intermittent, but now it doesn’t work at all.
Our car was parked in our garage overnight. In the morning, I went to get in the car and found that the sunroof had shattered. There was no evidence that anything had fallen on it or hit it; it was just simply shattered. There had been no previous damage to the vehicle. We attempted to call the 2 local Hyundai dealerships, but either did not receive a call back or they stated that they could not review our car for at least 2-3 weeks to see if this was a defect.
Update to complaint #11631235 at time of original complaint submission, I was unable to figure out how to share the video documentation of the vehicle speedomoter defect. Having since figured it out, I want to share this evidence with the NHTSA.
I’m having trouble with getting insurance protection on my 2021 Hyundai Palisade. It appears that the SUV is easy to seal. State farm and travelers insurance company will not write a policy on a Hyundai vehicle.
On 7/23 my family experience a very horrific event. While traveling on a road at approximately 35 mph our rear passenger window exploded. The explosion was unexpected and dangerously unsafe. There was debri of broken glass all over our bodies , hair, clothing and inside our vehicle. Luckily our family was not injured. Since then our family has really questioned the safety of your vehicles after learning that this type of event is happening to other Hyundai Palisade owners. I created a case and have not heard back from anyone nor any dealership cannot provide assistance in my area. My kids and family are afraid to get into a vehicle we thought was safe but apparently is not. I need someone to call me and I need to stop being transferred over and over to different customer service reps and need Hyundai to take responsibility for our loss family time, appointments and mental insecurities caused by this explosion.
When turning slowly or going over bumps at a lower speed, a thud or pop can be heard from the rear, which could be the shocks or struts in the rear. On a luxury vehicle, with this low of miles, these shouldn't need replacement so quickly. No warning lights or messages.
My locks start making a clicking noise randomly, sometime when vehicle is off some times when it is going down the road. It makes a series of clicks, sounds like doors are locking and unlocking, then I get a warning that pops up on dash that says child safety lock failure. When I took it to the dealership they could not get any failure codes when they hooked up computer.
The contact owns a 2021 Hyundai Palisade. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 22v633000 (trailer hitches) and 22v627000 (visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. Additionally, the contact stated that the passenger's door failed to unlock. The contact stated that the failure was intermittently.
The sunroof exploded and shattered while driving on the highway. It was very loud and startling and could have caused us to get in a wreck as it sounded like a gun went off. Also, we then had to drive with a hand on the sunroof cover so the glass wouldn't come into the car as it was very windy and it was unclear if the cover would stay shut. There were no warnings whatsoever. It is at the dealership now and has been confirmed.
