38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2023

On 7/23 my family experience a very horrific event. While traveling on a road at approximately 35 mph our rear passenger window exploded. The explosion was unexpected and dangerously unsafe. There was debri of broken glass all over our bodies , hair, clothing and inside our vehicle. Luckily our family was not injured. Since then our family has really questioned the safety of your vehicles after learning that this type of event is happening to other Hyundai Palisade owners. I created a case and have not heard back from anyone nor any dealership cannot provide assistance in my area. My kids and family are afraid to get into a vehicle we thought was safe but apparently is not. I need someone to call me and I need to stop being transferred over and over to different customer service reps and need Hyundai to take responsibility for our loss family time, appointments and mental insecurities caused by this explosion.

When turning slowly or going over bumps at a lower speed, a thud or pop can be heard from the rear, which could be the shocks or struts in the rear. On a luxury vehicle, with this low of miles, these shouldn't need replacement so quickly. No warning lights or messages.

The sunroof exploded and shattered while driving on the highway. It was very loud and startling and could have caused us to get in a wreck as it sounded like a gun went off. Also, we then had to drive with a hand on the sunroof cover so the glass wouldn't come into the car as it was very windy and it was unclear if the cover would stay shut. 45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2023

While driving our Palisade on the freeway, the sunroof exploded without warning. Fortunately, the sunroof was closed and we had the internal compartment closed and no one was behind us on the freeway. So the glass did not enter the vehicle or hit another vehicle. But if the indoor compartment was open then glass would have entered into the vehicle and striking individuals in the car. The shattered glass did do damage to the top of our car (I. E. Scratches deep enough to take off the paint completely). Based on online forums, and one law firm’s (based in connecticut) website, this is a known problem with the Hyundai Palisade. It also appears that the NHTSA is investigating the kia sorento for this same problem. Thus, the problem has been replicated in other vehicles and kia/Hyundai are aware of the problem. Our vehicle has not yet been inspected by anyone (we are taking it to the dealer in the near future). There was no warning that this was going to happen, it just sounded like a gun was being fired in our car.

Failure Date: 10/29/2022

Driving down the highway at 70 mph, no other vehicles around, we heard exploding glass shatter above us. The sunroof cover was closed, so no glass in the cabin. There was nothing around us nor anything flying in the air that could have hit the sunroof. We stopped as soon as we could safely to look at it and the sunroof glass was shattered in the middle. I had to use gorilla tape to cover the glass so we could drive the last 2 hours home. My wife had to hold the cover closed for fear it would open and glass fly in to the cabin. Our safety was at risk as the glass could have fallen in. And cut us or flown in our eyes as we were traveling at highway speed. We have an insurance claim, we have contacted Hyundai with photos, and no response from Hyundai at this time. No warning lights or messages were on in the vehicle. We have a repair estimate including glass clean up and new glass installation. We researched and appears that sunroof explosions have happened on Hyundai models, I guess we weren’t the exception.

Failure Date: 09/17/2022

I started my car using my key fob so the car wouldn’t be as hot when my baby and I got in. I walked to the back passenger side, unlocked the car and put my baby into the car. I then walked around to the driver’s side door and somehow the car was locked even though I had just unlocked it. I had my keys in my hand so I pressed the unlock button. My car would not unlock. I tried all of the doors and tried to lock and unlock my vehicle multiple times. I was about to break a window since my 7 month old was locked inside when I realized maybe the trunk would open. It did and I had to climb through my trunk to get into my vehicle to unlock it. This is exceptionally dangerous as I live in a very hot climate and a child can die in a hot car in minutes. Even though the car was running if you do not get into your car in 10 minutes the car automatically turns off. If someone does not remain calm in that situation they may not think to try the trunk. I have not yet notified the dealer or had the vehicle inspected. I was able to recreate the incident without my child inside. If anyone would like to inspect my vehicle that is fine. This is a deadly accident waiting to happen.

Component: child safety lock system risk: we have a 6 year old and a 2 year old. We bought the SUV as a family vehicle. If the child safety lock system does not work out children would be able to open their doors while traveling at highway speeds. Problem reproduced: the dealership replaced a part the first time we took it in for the issue. The issue persisted. We brought it back when the issue happened again and the dealership said they couldn't reproduce the issue. It happens randomly. I have a video I made showing the issue happening several times in a row and provided the video to the service department. I have an appointment tomorrow morning to drop the car off again for them to diagnose. Inspected: not been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance rep or others. Symptoms: you can hear the child lock system trying to physically engage over and over again when walking near to the locked car with the fob in your pocket. When inside the vehicle the same happens when trying to turn on the child safety lock via the button on the driver side arm rest in the driver side door. After the repeated clicking sound there is an alert that appears on the lcd screen in the dash above the steering wheel and a chime. The alert says: "child safety lock failure" then goes away. I have a video reproducing this several times in a row: https://photos. App. Goo. Gl/lbvectvyha2lxlsp7 the last time we brought this to the dealership they said they could do nothing if they weren't able to reproduce the problem. We have an appointment to drop it with them again tomorrow to diagnose the issue.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2021

The electronic child safety lock system that is controlled with the door panel has been consistently failing since about 6 months after I got my vehicle. It tries to the lock the doors repeatedly until the system fails and tells me "child safety lock failure" on the display. I have had it in the service department on four separate occasions where they have not been able to pinpoint the issue. They have replaced the door actuators in the rear doors as well as some of the fuses and wiring, but I have not gotten a resolution from any of the actions. It appears that there is some connection to my key fob because when I'm approaching the vehicle I can hear the locks start to engage. My concern is that once the system fails, the child safety locks are no longer engaged, which means my children can open the doors.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2021

From driver: "while traveling westbound on john lynch st, I approached the left turn lane heading southbound on valley st. I engaged the brakes and began navigating the left turn at approx. 30 mph. While turning, the vehicle's "lane assist" engaged preventing me from completing the turn. Halfway into the turn, the vehicle continued westbound, hopped the curb, and collided with a stationary road sign that was not in use. I continued through the intersection and pulled off the roadway. " follow-on questions: 1) how fast was the customer traveling when they were actively turning? a. 30 mph, which I am assuming was the approach speed. To the best of the vehicle operator's recollection, the approach speed was appropriately 40-45 mph, with an active turn speed of 30 mph. 2) what was the recent usage of the vehicle before the incident? was it used that day? how long had the vehicle been driving before the incident? a. The vehicle was driven, by the same driver, approximately 12 miles to work the morning of the accident. Prior to the accident, the vehicle was driven around the same city as the accident for approximately two hours. 3) did any vehicle operator notice anything wrong or unusual about the vehicle prior to the incident? a. Vehicle operator observed that the lane assist dash board icon was blinking on and off throughout the course of a few hours prior to the accident. Vehicle operator attempted to disable the lane assist feature by both pressing and holding the lane assist button located inside of the vehicle. 4) any after-market equipment installed? a. Vehicle was equipped with both law enforcement lights and law enforcement siren. 5) any upfits? a. The vehicle did not have up-fits. 6) will the customer agency consent to the oem (or NHTSA) retrieving information from the vehicle's event data recorder? a. Yes.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2021

Oxygen depleting lighter than air toxic gasses within the vehicle causing anoxia among inhabitants. This problem has been noted consistently on Hyundai web sites with no response. This problem becomes more dangerous with weather conditions and closed environment within the vehicle. It is not just the smell, but the oxygen depleting gasses emitted by whatever is causing the occurrence. Most own ers complain about the smell, but the smell is directly related to the intoxicating & probably deadly carcinogenic funes. Thank you for your time.
