Sun/moon Roof Assembly problems of the 2021 Hyundai Palisade

The contact owns a 2021 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware of parts falling from the sunroof tract onto the front passenger’s seat. The contact held on to the remaining parts of the sunroof tract to prevent the sunroof from detaching. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. In addition, the contact was informed that there was no evidence of failure to determine what caused the sunroof tract to fracture. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,582.

While driving down the interstate heard a loud sound, sounding like a shot gun. Looked and the sunroof shattered. Immediately took it into the dealership and they determined it was not hit by anything and they have been seeing a rise of this happening. They are fixing under warranty and had to give me rental car because they don’t know how long it will take. It was extremely scary and thankfully my sunroof cover was closed. I can easily see this causing a car accident.

The sunroof on our 2021 Hyundai Palisade spontaneously shattered while driving. There were no other vehicles around, it just exploded. Fortunately the shade cover was closed so no glass flew into the vehicle.

The sunroof wind guard arms broke and are preventing sunroof from shutting allowing elements from the exterior such as rain to get into the cabin. The dealer is aware of the issue, and has taped the sunroof as a remedy until parts come in as they are on backorder. The car alerts every time the ignition is turned off and beeps a couple times.
