Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Palisade based on all problems reported for the Palisade.
This vehicle is still using the defective style piston rings causing oil consumption of 1. 5qts in 1000miles, with only 100,000miles. This has been ongoing since we purchased the vehicle with 94,000 miles. This needs to be issued as a recall to replace piston rings or the engine entirely. My valuemax level 4 extended warranty is refusing to repair the issue stating Hyundai/kia has carbon buildup on the piston rings. This engine could run low on oil and cause a fire, or a engine shut down causing a crash.

The engine in my 2021 Hyundai Palisade experienced sudden loss of oil leading to engine failure. The vehicle had been regularly serviced and maintained at a Hyundai dealership according to recommended intervals. During multiple service visits, the dealership informed me the vehicle was low on oil. An oil consumption test was performed but the results were inconclusive. At approximately 99,500 miles, the vehicle developed an oil leak which the dealership diagnosed as a gasket issue and repaired under warranty. An oil change was completed at that time. Approximately 5,000 miles later, while driving, the vehicle began experiencing loss of power and rough engine operation. I immediately drove the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership later informed me the engine had no oil in it when inspected. There were no active external leaks observed at that time. The dealership stated that it is “normal” for this engine to consume up to one quart of oil per 1,000 miles. The engine now requires full replacement due to internal damage caused by oil loss. This situation created a safety concern because the vehicle began losing power while in operation. The failure occurred suddenly without warning indicators prior to the loss of engine performance. The vehicle had documented oil level concerns during previous service visits, suggesting a potential excessive oil consumption or engine defect. The failed engine is currently available for inspection at the dealership.
The contact owns a 2026 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that the vehicle turned off on several occasions after the engine auto start/stop system was engaged. The vehicle was restarted and was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. Additionally, upon starting the vehicle after the vehicle was refueled at a gas station, the check engine and several other unknown warning lights were illuminated, and the vehicle failed to respond while shifted to drive(d). The vehicle was towed to the contact's business. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed because there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 5,463.
While idling at a traffic light on a busy city street all of the warning lights on the car went off and the car shut off on its own.

I have the video but I am unsure how to upload or share incident description: the vehicle is experiencing intermittent, complete engine stalls while in motion at highway speeds. The failure has occurred four times. Initial symptom: the issue first manifested as "stuttering" and erratic behavior from the advanced driver assistance systems (adas) which I thought it was. Escalation: the vehicle has since progressed to a total loss of power. During these incidents, I was forced to pull over on high-speed corridors (hwy 46 and hwy 5) to restart the vehicle. Recurring pattern: most recently, after a stall and restart, the vehicle stalled again within a few blocks. I have captured video evidence of the stall occurring immediately after the vehicle was "reset" and put back into motion. Safety concern: this is a life-threatening defect. The vehicle loses propulsion without warning in high-speed traffic. The manufacturer’s service department (Hyundai) has been unable to identify a diagnostic fault code, citing "no problem found," and has only attempted a software/values reset, which has failed to correct the physical stalling.
While driving on a California freeway at approximately 70mph, the engine check light began flashing, the vehicle experienced a sudden and severe power loss, entered reduced power mode, and began violently shaking. Engine braking occurred without brake light activation, creating an immediate rear-end collision risk from following traffic. The vehicle would not stop shaking until restarted. This occurred twice — once in January 2026 and again in March 2026, both on the freeway with passengers in the vehicle. The dealer confirmed fault codes p0303 (cylinder 3 misfire), p0306 (cylinder 6 misfire), and p0300 (random/multiple misfire) on both visits. On the first visit the dealer called the codes normal and returned the vehicle unrepaired. The second visit lasted 44 days. The dealer could not reproduce the fault during the entire 44-day period. A Hyundai field service engineer physically visited the dealership and applied a special software update to the engine control module. The closed repair order documents this as "update special software into engine control unit" with no TSB number, no software version before or after, and no gds event number. The dealer confirmed they have no access to this update and cannot verify what was changed. No proof of correction was issued for California emissions compliance. The two recalls performed on the same repair order both have proper TSB numbers and stui documentation. The ecm update has none. Concerned about emissions compliance and potential fault code suppression on a California-registered vehicle.
Oil filter housing leak. Does not impact oil levels but more notable during cold weather as the ring tends to shrink.
I am reporting a safety concern involving repeated engine stalling while driving my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle has stalled a total of seven times during normal operation. Most of the incidents occurred while slowing down or stopped at intersections and traffic lights. In these situations, the engine suddenly shut off without warning. I was forced to immediately shift the vehicle into park and restart the engine to continue driving. The check engine light did illuminate in connection with this issue. These incidents create a serious safety hazard, as sudden engine shutdown in active traffic increases the risk of rear-end collision. The loss of engine power occurs unexpectedly and without sufficient warning. The vehicle has been inspected, and I was informed that the issue may involve internal engine malfunction requiring major repairs. Because this vehicle has experienced multiple unexpected stalls in traffic, I am submitting this complaint due to the significant safety risk posed by sudden engine failure during operation.
Along with the two recalls of which I have not been contacted by Hyundai or provided any form of remedy, this is highly concerning and makes me feel extremely unsafe driving my vehicle, especially with the fact that I have small children and teenagers. My car had an issue from inception that I’ve let the dealer know about that. They still have not fixed including the fact that well I’ll be driving on certain roads are on the highway. It’ll come up with a warning telling me that I’m going the wrong way and try to engage the automatic breaking system. In addition, the second row seatbelt has been stuck and it won’t go back in. The third row seats often times try to disengage and come down. Anytime I hit a small bump or go over a speed bump even very slow. My bluetooth goes off-line as well as the navigation and then it comes back online within 3 to 5 minutes. Carr seems to have had a number of odd issues, including the way the engine has sounded as well as the electrical system is not engaging properly. I feel highly unsafe continuing to drive this vehicle and until all recalls and full proper analysis is conducted to remedy these issues I would want either a full refund of the cash value that I purchased my vehicle for, a brand new vehicle at no additional charge, or a loaner vehicle until all of these issues are remedied, and then a full analysis to ensure that it meets the standards. My preference would be to get a full refund of the cash value in which I purchased my vehicle for so I can get something else that is more safe for my family.

The vehicle engine shuts off out of nowhere, unable to change/switch between gears for 2-3 minutes after stopping at a red light, stop sign, or during heavy traffic, with no activation of the idle-stop-system before the incident. During the incident, the vehicle's steering was not able to turn. I have to keep my foot on the brake pedal for a while. After the second incident, I managed to drive the vehicle carefully and slowly to the dealership, but I was told there was no problem with the vehicle. So, I requested to take a drive with a mechanic, and the engine shut off in the middle of the street while slowing down for the third time. The dashboard reads "auto stop is off. " shift to p or n and start engine manually. Vehicle still at the dealership for 5 days.
Dear NHTSA, I'm reporting a serious safety issue with my 2020 Hyundai Palisade (3. 8l v6) involving excessive oil consumption without low-oil warning lights. Timeline: oil changed: August 13, 2025 ? engine stalling/rough idle ? checked oct 27, 2025: completely out of oil oil changed again: October 27, 2025 ? same symptoms recur ? January 16, 2026: completely out of oil again usage: ~300 miles/week (1,200 miles/4 months) using full synthetic 5w-30—far below Hyundai's 7,500-10,000 mile interval. Safety risk: no low oil warning despite total depletion x2, risking catastrophic engine failure while driving. Known lambda ii v6 issue per TSB 20-01-0001. Request: investigation into oil consumption recall and sensor failure.
On January 12, 2026, the vehicle shut off twice during the same trip while driving in traffic. All dashboard warning lights illuminated, the tachometer spiked, rpm readings did not correspond, the gear selector became unresponsive, and the vehicle lost propulsion while in motion. On February 15, 2026, the vehicle shut off again while driving under similar conditions. The vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership for diagnosis. The battery failed a load test and was replaced. According to the repair order narrative, after the battery replacement, the stall condition recurred during dealership testing. Multiple extended road tests and datalogging were later performed. The dealership has stated they are unable to re-replicate the condition and that no active diagnostic codes are present. The vehicle has experienced multiple loss-of-power events while in motion. An intermittent stall while driving presents a significant safety hazard, particularly in traffic conditions. The root cause has not been definitively identified.

The engine is burning oil at a rapid rate. It's burning one liter every 70 miles.
Excessive oil consumption. The vehicle is burning nearly 4 quarts of oil between changes. This started at around 100,000 miles with no warning lights. The only indication was a strange tapping noise coming from the engine.
I am reporting a serious safety issue involving my 2025 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle has repeatedly produced white smoke during cold start and has experienced loss of engine power while driving. Despite multiple repair visits (six times) to an authorized Hyundai dealership, the dealer repeatedly stated that the condition could not be reproduced and no repairs were performed. I provided video evidence of the white smoke and described the symptoms in writing at each visit. Shortly after the most recent service visit(12/22/25), within approximately five days, the vehicle displayed an “engine power limited” warning message and a malfunction indicator light (mil). When this occurred, the vehicle’s power was significantly reduced, making it difficult to maintain speed and creating a potentially dangerous condition, especially during highway driving or merging into traffic. This issue poses a serious safety risk because sudden loss of engine power can increase the risk of collision. The problem appears to be intermittent but recurring, and it has not been properly diagnosed or corrected by the dealership despite repeated opportunities. The vehicle has not been repaired for this condition, and the defect remains unresolved. The condition may be available for inspection upon request, and diagnostic data such as warning messages and onboard fault codes should be present in the vehicle’s system. The failure began with white smoke during cold start and later escalated to engine power limitation and warning lights.

Vehicle experienced engine failure previously and received a Hyundai-installed replacement engine in February 2025. Replacement engine is now setting dtc p000a00 – intake camshaft position slow response (bank 1). Hyundai dealership master technician confirmed excessive variance between commanded and actual cam timing, indicating a vvt / cam timing failure controlled by oil and actuators. Hyundai is refusing to cover diagnosis and repair under replacement engine warranty and is requiring customer-paid tear-down despite fault originating within the engine assembly. Concern is for internal engine timing failure that may lead to engine damage or loss of power. This appears consistent with known Hyundai engine timing and oil control issues.
I have been continuously receiving check engine notifications that show the engine cylinders misfiring. This seems to only happen at highway speeds which could cause a safety hazard should the driver need to accelerate for merging/passing/etc. I have brought this issue into the dealership once so far and they said they couldn't do anything since they were unable to replicate the issue while driving it. From what I've seen online, many other owners of this vehicle are having similar problems with the same responses from their local dealerships.
The first incident, my SUV failed to start, per roadside assistance, I replaced the battery. No diagnostic testing done. On 12/26/25 my SUV stopped cold while driving. Red battery light and other warning indicators on dashboard lit up. Radio went dead; loss of steering assist; loss of vehicle power; dashboard went black and SUV shut down. It would not start again. Towed to Hyundai for diagnostic test. I leave my home at 4:30 a. M. Every morning driving 30 miles on the beltway to work. Imagine the danger, stopping cold on the beltway, in the dark alone with no power for emergency lights to warn approaching traffic of the danger. I travel with my family in my SUV on the beltway daily. I no longer trust this vehicle, and I’ve requested to be reimbursed; my vehicle is my livelihood and it’s my life and the lives of my family each day that I get into this SUV. SUV is paid off. Rockville Hyundai’s finding was a faulty alternator and battery. The original battery was in the SUV with the first incident, still I’m terrified to drive this SUV. I researched possible causes for my SUV performing in this manner and my research yielded, and I quote: “electronic troubles with the 2022 Palisade calligraphy often involve dashboard warning lights, driver-assist malfunctions, instrument cluster failures, and even engine shutdowns, frequently linked to issues like a faulty alternator, low battery voltage, or problems with the instrument cluster itself (recalls), with some owners reporting dangerous situations like loss of steering assist or vehicle power loss on the highway. ” on 1/6/26 on the beltway, the battery light and other warning indicators lit up; radio went dead, all warning indicators on the dashboard lit up; experienced loss of steering assist; and the dashboard went black instantly. I reached home, and parked; lights on the dashboard came back on, and I turned the engine off. On 1/7/26 I drove to Hyundai for another diagnostic test. 1/21/26 SUV still in service.

My radiator is leaking.
Occasionally, the car's rpms fluctuate wildly, and the engine stalls; the surges in rpm lead to sudden, abrupt acceleration, which poses a safety risk to me and my family. The dealership has been unable to resolve the problem.
I bought my vehicle almost 2 years ago with 30k miles on it. In December 2025, the car started stalling and wouldn’t run properly. I took it into the dealership and they stated that the engine was burning oil. This was at 90k miles. Hyundai refuses to fix the motor issue because I’m not the original owner. This issue would have started even before the 90k miles because the vehicle had almost used all its oil in between the normal oil change interval. They did a sludge clean and we checked the oil again after 1500 miles and it had already used over a quart of oil.
The engine is burning oil at a rate that is unreasonable. When the oil level is low, there is no oil light indicator to show that the car is low on oil. My safety is being put at risk because the engine could seize up at any moment and may have slow or no acceleration. I caught the low oil problem just in time because I have a child who was aware of what the issue was with the car. I have had normal oil changes. This is a known issue in Hyundai's and these vehicles need to be repaired/replaced. The care will be inspected by a Hyundai dealership.
Check engine light came on and stayed on. When using heat for car it was not heating up well or to temp. Got in to be serviced 12/16/25-12/18/25. Replaced a plastic part in engine and said engine was not heating up like it should. Cost $814. Reset check engine light. On 1/2/26 reversed car out of driveway into street and car came to abrupt stop and would not shift into any other gears. Another vehicle was coming up the street and almost collided with us and I could not get my vehicle to move which was blocking the road. Warning message said “shifter system malfunction: service immediately. ” pushed power button to turn off vehicle. Turned back on and able to get into drive to park back in driveway. Definitely having electrical issues and multiple problems with car since October 2025 when weather became colder for winter.
After 4 days of parking in the garage due to my travel , when came back and tried to start the car it was completely dead. Couldn’t do anything so Hyundai road assistance cane and had to jumpstart the car . Since then dash cam is not working at all and also car is having wierd sound. Hybrid system is just giving me only 15gpm but the car should have around 29 -30 mpg. Car is very new bought in oct 28th 2025. And only gave 225 miles. I am worried if if the battery is working.
My vehicle experienced a sudden and immediate loss of motive power due to a catastrophic internal engine failure, creating a severe road safety hazard. While driving and attempting to accelerate or merge, the vehicle exhibits extreme hesitation, severe misfiring on cylinder #2, and rough, unstable idling. This unexpected loss of drive power made the vehicle unpredictable and unsafe to operate under normal driving conditions, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The vehicle is currently at the Hyundai dealership (fox ann arbor Hyundai) for diagnosis. The dealer has confirmed and documented the following internal mechanical defects at only 86,000 miles: compression loss in cylinder #2. Cylinder wall scoring and pitting. Evidence of blow-by and heavy carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. Misfire and rough idle. Oil consumption as a result of the cylinder failure. This failure is a premature mechanical defect, not normal wear. Failures of this nature (sudden loss of motive power due to internal engine defect) have been cited by NHTSA in other recalls and are known to increase the risk of a crash or fire. The manufacturer has acknowledged the defect by offering only 50% goodwill toward a repair, but this defect remains a critical, unresolved safety hazard that requires a full, safe engine replacement. ".
Since purchasing the vehicle brand new in oct 2021, all recommended services have been executed on time. (records to prove it can be provided if required) Aug 25, 2025. Mileage = 78,247. Full preventative maintenance including gdi fuel service and oil change Nov 21, 2025. Mileage = 85,421. I am on a 2 hour commute home and the engine is stalling at every stop. Needs to be re-started each time. Pinging noise when accelerating. The car is brought into parkway Hyundai in wilmington, nc. Oil was below dipstick. This lack of oil causes the engine to misfire. I asked why the "low oil" light doesn't appear. I am told that he didn't know but the light only goes on when its completely out of oil. That doesn't seem safe at all. At this point, I am told by service agent that this is a known problem with Hyundai and the recommend bringing the vehicle in for oil checks every 1,000 miles Dec 15, 2025. Mileage = 86,597. Oil check - engine 0. 4 quarts low after 1,000 miles. I am told it is "within Hyundai's range of acceptance Jan 2, 2025. Mileage = 88,463. Oil check - engine 1. 4 qts low after 2,000 miles. I am told 0. 75 quarts every 1,000 miles is within the accepted range. Jan 22, 2025. Mileage = 89,487. Oil check - engine 0. 9 qts low after 1,000 miles. I am told 0. 9 qts is within Hyundai's accepted range. This is unacceptable for a car to burn almost a quart of oil every 1,000 miles.
Engine started burning oil at around 70,000 miles. It now runs almost completely out of oil at around 5,000 miles since last oil change, not even close to reaching the manufacturer recommended interval of 7500 miles between oil changes. On top of the engine consuming oil at an alarming rate, there are no warning indicator lights that turn on to let you know your oil level is critically low. At around 74,000 miles?, Hyundai did a combustion cleaning. I've had two oil changes and it was back to vibrating, knocking, shifting hard, etc, right before a 3rd one at 5,300 miles since the last one and it stalled. The vehicle has now stalled twice, all engine lights flashed, then car stalled. Thankfully, this was not on an interstate or major road. This is a major problem!.
I was stopped at a stop sign with my foot firmly on the brake and vehicles engine starting revving. Next was stopped at my mailbox with the foot firmly on the brake and engine started revving again. Next, I was pulling into my garage and had just taken my foot off of the brake and engine revved again, this time propelling me into my garage wall. I have a video of the car pulling into the garage and you can hear the car accelerate.
I own a 2021 Hyundai Palisade calligraphy with approximately 114,000 miles. The transmission had to be replaced at around 98,000 miles. Recently, before my next scheduled oil change (I had about 1,000 miles left), my vehicle suddenly began making a loud knocking noise and lost power. The dealer informed me that the engine may have blown. There were no warning lights, oil indicators, or overheating signs before this happened. The car has been regularly maintained and serviced with timely oil changes. This appears to be a premature engine failure possibly related to oil consumption or an internal defect, as many other Palisade owners have reported similar issues. Hyundai consumer affairs has been contacted, and a case number is being opened for review. I am filing this complaint to report a potential widespread engine problem and request investigation into 2021 Hyundai Palisade engine reliability and oil-related failures.
The weather became cold outside. After first frost overnight, an oil leak started underneath the hood next to the front passenger side tire. Got in be serviced 11/19. Told the plastic piece to oil housing assembly cracked and had 9 other Palisades in for same exact issue. No warning lamps. Cost $519 to replace part.
My Hyundai Palisade was bought brand new in 2020. It currently has 131,500 miles on it. I noticed at around 110,000 miles that my oil was getting low before each oil change. I check my oil frequently. No oil leaks can be found. So the engine is burning oil somehow. My mechanic says Hyundai says its acceptable for it to burn oil after 100,000 miles but 2 quarts between oil changes seems excessive. Ive talked to other Palisade owners who have this year model and have the same issue. If I were not a responsible consumer and checked my oil as frequently as I do then its very possible another consumer could have burned their engine up before they knew what was happening because there is no leak just burning of the oil. This is very dangerous.
The engine failed due to oil consumption. The engine burns to much oil. It burns more oil than it holds during normal intervals between changes. It also did not give any oil lights or engine lights on the dash (not one indicator came on). When we took it in the service advisor told us the computer had indicated a problem, but that was for the technician.
I am the 3rd time owner of this Palisade. Car was bought after a transmission replacement at 27,000 miles. (second transmission). At around 70,000 miles, we started to have oil consumption problems/ignition coil problems. After a slew of tests and other recommend procedures that cost us money out of pocket, Hyundai recommended to get a new engine. We get the new engine. They call to tell us the new engine is done, and proceed to share the transmission is bad and it needs a new one (3rd transmission). They are asking us to pay for the transmission as well. We want a buy back as we think this is a lemon car. 3 transmissions and a new engine under 85000 miles is not good and definitely grounds for investigation. These repeated failures make it unsafe/unreliable for us to drive our 6 month old baby in, let alone my wife and my myself. . We request and investigation/buyback.
On roadtrip with family to daughter’s soccer tournament. Car started to shift funny then engine light turned on along with warning display saying something was wrong with the engine. We were only hour into driving so drove hour back home to dealership/service for Hyundai. They looked over the car and reported that we did the right thing by bringing it back and not continuing our roadtrip with it. The thermostat wasn’t working which would cause issues to engine with overheating and putting my family at risk with driving it on road trip with engine overheating.
I started smelling coolant fumes in my vehicle. Upon inspecting the coolant reservoir, I noticed it was empty. Upon inspecting the radiator itself, I noticed that some of the coolant was leaking. Fumes associated with the leaked liquid touching hot parts in the engine were entering the vehicle cabin. I noticed there was a technical bulletin regarding this issue for Hyundai Palisades. I informed the dealer as well as Hyundai corporate. Despite the technical bulletin, both entities ignored my issue and said it was not covered under warranty. In addition to potentially impacting the engine (if the coolant runs out), I believe the fumes are toxic and pose a serious health risk to passengers. As this seems to be a well known problem, I believe it needs to result in a recall (and not a technical bulletin).
