When exiting a parking lot going about 6 miles an hour I approached a stop sign. When I attempted to stop my vehicle the antilock brakes engaged and vehicle would not stop. I pressed harder on the brake but it did nothing. The vehicle finally did stop but I was half a car length into the street. I was terrified. Fortunately there was no oncoming vehicle. This terrifies me because I frequently have my grandchildren it the car, the reason we bought a large vehicle.

When going over bumps while lightly pressing the brake (not hard) the anti lock brakes will kick on preventing you from stopping. Example, I was leaving the grocery store slowed down because the light was turning red, hit a minor bump and my brakes locked up and almost rear ended someone because my car would not stop. I was going 5 mpr or less. Contacted Hyundai dealer and the sales manager stated I could bring it in but it is a known issue that Hyundai is refusing to fix. All of my previous vehicles have had abs and never have I experienced anything like this. It has happened multiple times going over small bumps, small potholes, etc just lightly tapping my brakes.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while in a parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle inadvertently accelerated with no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to lightly engage the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly, causing the contact to collide with another vehicle. The two vehicle in front where crashd into and had cosmetic damage. No injuries were sustained, and no medical attention was required. The air bags did not deploy during the incident. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 30,200.

When coming to a stop at a slow speed on uneven ground, my vehicle would not brake. It vibrated and wouldn’t gain traction like the antilock breaking system activated. I had to pump the brake multiple times to finally get the car to stop before hitting the vehicle in front of me. This has happened multiple times when coming to a this has happened multiple times when coming to a stop over the railroad tracks. Upon researching the issue, this seems to be a frequent issue with the Hyundai Palisade.

Since purchasing the vehicle on February 4, 2026 this has happened twice, where I press the brake pedal to try to stop the vehicle and the engine accelerates and it's hard to keep vehicle stopped. When this happened for the first time I was leaving my subdivision and try to stop at a stop sign and vehicle accelerated while I was trying to stop. It took me by surprise, so I pressed the park gear to stop the vehicle. Then it happened again yesterday 2/22/2026. I called the dealer today 2/23/2026 to report the issue, they won't have a loaner until 3/06/2026. I did informed them, that if this happened again before then, I was taking the vehicle directly to them, as I'm no taking the chance to have an accident while waiting for a loaner and have the vehicle checked.
When I was pulling out of my driveway heading out of the neighborhood. Approaching the stop sign I applied my SUV brakes and it fail. I had to push the neutral button to take it out of gear. My current speed was approximately 25 to 30 mph. I was heading towards a ditch and almost crashed into the ditch. Took the car to the dealership. The dealership inspected and the intake vacuum line that controls the brakes fail part was defective. Dealership had to order the part. It took them 20 days to get my SUV repaired and back to me. Part was covered under warranty.
I am reporting a recurring, life-threatening electronic failure in my 2023 Hyundai Palisade. On [xxx], while turning into an intersection, the vehicle's brakes spontaneously engaged, stalling the car in the path of oncoming traffic. During this event, multiple critical safety systems failed simultaneously, including the headlights and horn, leaving me unable to warn other drivers. A "violent" surge was required to clear the intersection, risking a high-speed collision. Similar spontaneous recurrences occurred on [xxx] and [xxx], and most recently on [xxx]. These incidents are characterized by "phantom braking," total loss of propulsion, and a complete lack of interior/exterior electronic response. Technical evidence: diagnostic scans revealed 16 distinct fault codes (including c161608, c181287, and u012687) involving the chassis control module, electronic control unit (ecu), and communication buses. Despite these logged codes, Hyundai and the dealership have repeatedly returned the vehicle to me, stating they "cannot replicate" the issue, thereby dismissing a documented electronic record of failure. Arbitration status: I entered into bbb auto line arbitration (case #[xxx]). Hyundai has contested the claim by attempting to manipulate the "start date" of the defect to February 2024 to avoid lemon law statutes, despite dealer records confirming the first occurrence in August 2023. As of January 13, 2026, the dealership is again attempting to force me to take delivery of the unrepaired vehicle. This vehicle is a "phantom" safety hazard. The manufacturer’s inability to replicate a logged electronic fault during a brief test drive does not mitigate the extreme risk of sudden braking and power loss at highway speeds. I am requesting a formal investigation into these specific fault codes and the electronic integrity of this model. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was at work and went to move my car in our parking garage. I hit a bump and my front tires started to shake along with my steering wheel, and my brakes wouldn't work. I briefly lost total control over the brakes, steering wheel and tires causing me to almost hit a parked vehicle before everything self corrected. No alerts came on. I recently was hit on my rear passenger side and had repairs done to my vehicle. I had also experienced this shortly after I purchased the car and the dealership supposedly fixed the issue. I’m not shew if the wreck causes this issue to malfunction again or what, but this isn’t safe. I just reported the issue to the collision center that recently repaired my vehicle. Waiting on a response.
I just purchased the new 2024 Palisade. We were traveling about 15-20 mph when approaching a stop sign when I pressed the brakes the abs braking system went on and I could not stop the car. The car seemed to learch forward while the abs braking was going on and the car did not stop in time and we traveled into the middle of the intersection. Good thing the driver coming from the cross street slammed on his brakes and did not hit us. The road we were traveling on was a little rough and bumpy at the point the abs engaged when I was breaking. The braking after the incident seemed to be normal operation.
In general even in slow speed the emergency break kicks in and actually the vehicle is sliding and not stopping. Now in the snow when you try to stop again the vehicle is shaking and sliding instead of stopping.
Vehicle fails to stop when braking after a bump/rough surface in the road. Near miss for rear ending another vehicle. Yes, the problem was reported and demonstrated to the dealer service technician. Yes, the manufacturer has inspected the vehicle. No warnings and has had symptoms since purchase of vehicle in 2023.
Driving around 30mph pressing brakes to slow down and brakes felt softer than normal. Noticed when around 7 mph car continues to not come to full stop but continued to move. This happened 3 times during the same drive. Once on my street I attempted to slow down to turn into my driveway. Car reduced to 5mph but jersey and accelerated. Had to slam brakes to stop. Was not detected by dash cam which is programed to record driving events. Bought a sante fe car in sept 2026. Had same incident. Swapped it for 2026 Palisade calligraphy, had same incident. Swapped for this one. . Dealership says could not duplicate. Obvious it is not an isolated problem. What can be done?.
Antilock braking system is malfunctioning. Significant increase in stopping distance, and especially on uneven or wet surfaces. The car shutters and shakes while stopping. We have almost hit a deer, had trouble stopping at intersections, and did not stop in a timely manner while behind another vehicle. General fear knowing if brakes are firmly pressed that the car is unable to stop quickly (as expected with other vehicles).
Under normal braking pressures, crossing uneven surfaces, even as normal as markings painted on the road surfaces will result in the abs intervening to a degree beyond what is necessary or safe. No warning lamps or indicators are illuminated, but when this happens, you can hear and feel exaggerated feedback through the brake pedal. The problem has not been able to be replicated by a dealer, but this unnecessary intervention by the abs system dramatically increases stopping distances, resulting in dangerous situations such as rolling through a stop sign into oncoming traffic, or into the rear of the vehicle in front of you. Typically when this problem occurs, the abs will not stop interfering until the brake pedal is completely released and reapplied. The problem has been inspected by a dealer, but with them failing to reproduce the issue, they have not confirmed the issue yet.
Automatic emergency braking. Vehicle has had several instances of slaming on brakes for no reason. Last time we were traveling about 35 miles per hour with a vehicle traveling behind us when system slammed on brakes locking them up and bringing us to a complete stop. We were traveling in the dark, in a rough road in a construction zone. No warnings lamps or messages. Scared us very bad. We are having the vehicle checked the next time we have in for service. Seat belts not fixed as of last service 10/25/25, per dealer no remedy available at this time.
Abs system activated when I hit a bump of any kind and I'm slowing down, like a speed bump, a 1/2"edge on my curb as I enter my driveway a little faster than usual. Or exit a long drive at that is dry and lower than the sidewalk and tires flyi over the edge of sidewalk and it activates pumping the brages repeatedly. Dates have been recent and a while ago. 11-25-25 and I don't have exact dates but probably 2 months ago and 4 months ago and 6 months ago and even 1 year ago. I took to the dealer but they said they couldn't recreate it so the couldn't fix anything. That was early on. I thought I was going to hit my garage door because it prevented me from stopping faster. It disengages my ability to use the brakes. They don't activate when being slammed on just when the road is rough. I looked in forums and many others have this issue. Please got it I hate it and it makes me want to return the vehicle because I don't feel safe when it happens.
During a routine inspection at ron marhofer Hyundai in akron, OH on November 22, 2025, the technician reported that both the front and rear brake caliper brackets on my 2024 Hyundai Palisade were “caliper bracket dry. ” the inspection sheet also included the following warning from the dealership: “if not replaced, the brake caliper will fail, causing a dangerous condition where either the vehicle will not stop or will pull severely to one side when it does. ” this was found on a 17-month-old vehicle with about 33,540 miles. Brake caliper slide pins and brackets should not be completely dry on a vehicle this new unless something was defective in the lubrication, assembly, or materials. The dealership confirmed the condition, provided photos, and gave a repair estimate. I contacted Hyundai consumer affairs and the case was escalated several times, but Hyundai ultimately declined to cover the repair, even with the dealer’s written statement that the calipers may fail and the vehicle may not stop. Based on the age of the vehicle, the dealer’s warning, and the nature of the problem, this is a premature brake system defect that creates a real safety risk to me and others on the road.
A dangerous and unpredictable braking issue has plagued my brand-new SUV (under 5,000 miles). On multiple occasions, the brakes have engaged suddenly and without warning while driving, causing the vehicle to stop abruptly in the middle of the road. This creates a hazardous situation with the potential for rear-end collisions, putting my family at risk and causing back pain to my passengers. The same problem also occurs when parking. The dealership requires a five-day service appointment, but the lack of any pre-warning lamps or indicators makes this issue especially concerning.
I had brought my car in because it feels like the antilock brakes kick in on uneven surfaces. I was told there is no issue. This happens again 2 days ago. I have had it happen where I almost hit the person in front of me, the car will not stop. Dry roads. It’s on bumpy roads, more often is a slight downhill. No lights on dash for antilock brakes coming on.
I have owned the 2024 Hyundai Palisade for 11 months. On average, I experience at least twice a month an issue with the braking system when coming to a stop. It appears mainly associated with uneven road or where loose gravel or asphalt maybe on the roadway. The vehicle's frontend vibrates and the brakes do not grab and hold. I have to release the brake pedal and then reapply the brakes, all the while my vehicle is continuing moving forward. Today, I was coming up to a stop light and almost went into cross traffic.
The abs system doesn't work properly on uneven, low speed roads. The brakes will not stop I have almost wrecked on multiple occasions. The seat belt located in the middle row, the middle seat belt gets stuck in the plastic causing the belt to stay loose. The vehicle also will shut its self down into "accessory" mode and put me into park not allowing me to move from traffic. It will either "reboot" or power off fully if I hit the ignition, I never know which it will do until it does it. It will sputter as if it is trying not to die if I am setting in a line or parked with the car on.
I was coming to a stop and pressed on the brakes and my car would not brake . It started jerking but continued forward. I almost hit the car in front of me.
I was driving slowly, about 5 mph, and was pulling over on a residential street to park on the street, and my Hyundai started shaking…the steering wheel and car were shaking and the brakes weren’t working. I nearly rear ended a car full of people. It did eventually a stop and the whole thing lasted maybe 10 seconds but it was terrifying. I had it towed to the dealership and they can’t seem to duplicate it.
When stepping on the brakes on a somewhat bumpy road the brakes will at times stop braking and the car will still keep going unless you take your foot off the brake and step on the brakes again. This is a massive safety issue.
Abs system failure at speeds below 30mph/rough surface. Abs system shutters and braking feels as if the vehicle will not stop. Other owners are reporting the same issue, plus no fix yet from Hyundai.
My location of work has metal grates (to close a metal gate) at the entrance and exit. I’ve experienced many many times at the exit as I am breaking the breaks slipping. I’ve noticed it other times as I break while driving over uneven surfaces. I finally started digging because that’s not normal and it was brand new. It appears others have had the same issue. It doesn’t look like a recall has been issued, but definitely needs to be.
I just had at least my 6th occurrence with my new 2025 Hyundai Palisade calligraphy night edition where, while braking at a slow speed, my abs kicked in and wouldn’t stop my car despite pushing the brake to the floor. Finally it abruptly stopped. In all situations, the road surfaces seemed to be slightly uneven or slightly bumpy. Each time this happened, I was traveling very slow and no faster than 10-15 mph. I’ve had my car for less than 5 months and now has happened at least 6 times. I nearly missed rear ending the vehicle in front of me in all cases because the abs was aggressively pulsating but not stopping until almost hitting the vehicle in front of me.
2025 Palisade 1,700 miles. Brand new. When I approached a stop sign, there was a small pothole just before it. When braking towards this sign, the front left tire traveled over the pothole. The car then shook violently and braking appeared to have halted for a moment. A search online revealed many people having similar issues with potholes/uneven roads and the brakes not functioning during this shaking period. It is suspected this is an antilock brake system. The issue is that it is too sensitive. Needs a recall to retune the sensitivity of this.
When driving over railroad tracks or entry gates, the vehicle skids forward in an uncontrollable manner and vehicle is unable to stop when I press on the brake pedal. I have to put the car in “park” to stop the vehicle from rolling into oncoming traffic or colliding into the car in front of me. It appears to be an abs problem.
The brakes on the car almost caused an accident where we would have rear ended the car in front of us. We were in a line of cars exiting a gravel parking lot traveling 5-10 mph. I pressed on the brake pedal as the car in front of us began to brake and our antilock brakes engaged and our car continued to travel forward towards the car in front of us. Luckily the car in front of us pulled out onto the road and we did not hit them. Similar issues have happened a handful of times since buying in March of 2025. I am an experienced driver and am familiar with how antilock brakes work and when they should engage, these instances have not been such cases. It seems it will only be a matter of time until this causes accidents. Another instance was when approaching a stop sign and hitting rumble strips in the road. This improper engaging of antilock brakes can very easily lead to car not stopping in time putting myself, my family, and other vehicles traveling on road at risk. I called the dealer and they said there is no issue and the antilock brakes are acting as they should. I have owned several cars over my lifetime and never had antilock brakes engage in these same instances. Upon investigation online, other drivers are experiencing similar issues and Hyundai is denying the issue. I have an appointment scheduled to get it looked at. There were no warnings, messages or other symptoms of the problem. How many people are going to have to report the same issue or how many people are going to have to be hurt before action is taken.
To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue involving my Hyundai Palisade related to brake failure. While driving my Hyundai Palisade, I experienced a situation where pressing the brake pedal resulted in little to no braking response. The vehicle did not slow or stop as expected, creating an extremely dangerous situation and a significant risk of collision. This occurred without warning, and the brake pedal did not provide normal resistance or stopping power. This issue appears to be intermittent, which makes it difficult to predict or reproduce, but it has occurred more than once. Based on my experience and reports from other Hyundai Palisade owners, this may be related to a malfunction of the braking or abs system. The lack of reliable braking response presents a serious safety hazard to drivers, passengers, and others on the road. I am concerned that this issue could result in a crash, injury, or worse if not addressed promptly. I am requesting that this complaint be formally recorded and that the brake system on Hyundai Palisade vehicles be thoroughly investigated. If applicable, I also request information regarding any known technical service bulletins, software updates, or recalls related to this issue. Vehicle details: make/model: Hyundai Palisade model year: 2022 mileage: 27000.
When driving at a low speed and over an uneven driving surface attempting to brake, the abs system unnecessarily engages and causes the car to lock up and skid instead of braking. This almost caused a car accident where my car would not stop like normal and almost skid into a stationary vehicle with an increased stopping distance until it stopped with a jolt. There is a class action lawsuit on this issue in ohio and new york.
Anytime driving on a bumpy road the brakes do not work correctly. When driving on a bumpy road I can feel the abs take over and I lose control over braking. Eventually I have to slam on the brakes or the computer does. Feels extremely unsafe since there are lots of brick roads around me. This has happened since I purchased the vehicle. I just researched this issue and it seems to be known a issue.
My wife and I were coming up to a stop sign the other day and we hit some bumps in the road and were unable to apply the brakes. I pressed down on the pedal but the car went into the intersection before the brakes then applied and the car was then able to stop again. Thank god!! since there was another car coming to the intersection. The car made noises like when the traction control kicks on after hitting a slippery surface on the road, but the car was not stopping and pressing the brakes did not do anything either. I also tried pumping the brakes on the car, but eventually the brakes kicked back in and we came to a hard stop. I have not taken the car into the shop to be looked at yet, but I know Hyundai and they wont find a problem with it and then charge me around $300 for them just to look at it. There was no warning to problem happening as we had never had this problem before and there was no lights on the display for the car when the problem happened.
