We were almost in a major accident with 6 passengers in our 2023 Hyundai Palisade. On Wednesday, oct 1, 2025 we were driving our Palisade to mcdonalds off highway 98 (navarre parkway). Please see pics. When we left mcdonalds we went on a side road to enter highway 98. Now on this side road (see pictures) there is some type of metal grate in between the road. . . Well when we went over the grate approaching the stop sign the Palisade went into an immediate violent shudder and there was no control of the vehicle as it felt it was shut down even though I could tell it was on by the interior lights on the gauges. I had absolutely no control of the vehicle. Yes, I was the one driving. I could not brake and the Palisade continue to roll past the stop sign onto highway 98 with on coming traffic. I couldn't even steer the car because its as though the car had no power. It was totally dead. With my foot pressed hard on the brakes that still did not work I tried to start the car and then it came on. My wife has told me that she experienced this issue at least six times passing this same road and others similar to it. This was the first time I experienced it and we were lucky we were not hit by oncoming traffic. Again, no brakes, no steering control. We were traveling at a slow speed as we were approaching the stop sign on that road with the metal grate, maybe 5 mph or less, but as soon as we went over the grates. . . All control of the Palisade was lost. Please advise us what to do. . . As I said we almost had a major accident with 6 passengers because the Palisade did not function as it was designed to do.

It doesn’t brake on uneven surfaces because of abs sensor issue. This has been reported by many owners of 2023-2025 Hyundai Palisade.

There is a known issue documented online regarding the 2024 Hyundai Palisade and the abs system. On multiple occasions we have noticed that when driving at slow speeds (less than 25 miles per hour) and if the road is slightly uneven, gravel, on an incline or decline, the brake pedal start to vibrate and there is loss of control and increased stopping distance. We reported this previously to Hyundai dealership and they found no fault. Today, 9/30/25, the care was involved in a low speed collision in which the Palisade rear ended another vehicle. Once again the car started to skid and hit the other vehicle. I dropped the car off today at the dealership.

While gently slowing/braking on warm and dry pavement, the vehicle proceeded over bumpy railroad tracks which seemingly activated the anti-lock brake system and prohibited the vehicle from stopping effectively. I had to turn the vehicle away from the vehicle stopped ahead of me because my vehicle was not stopping in time and I narrowly avoiding an accident due to this situation. Due to this inappropriate activation of the abs system, the vehicle took significantly longer to come to a stop, and once the abs stopped pulsating, the vehicle abruptly stopped, however I already had to turn away from the vehicle in front of me to avoid rear-ending it. This is an exceptionally unsafe situation that will inevitable cause injury or death should someone be driving fast up to the car in front of them and not expect this to occur. This is an extremely unexpected vehicle equipment response on a perfectly dry road without any debris/etc to cause tire slippage. Having done some online research of the issue, this seems to be a frequent problem experienced by other Palisade owners however Hyundai is not doing anything about it. We will have the vehicle inspected when we bring it in for the recent recall that Hyundai identified regarding seatbelts (however no fix has been identified for it as of yet).
Pulling out of a dark parking lot at night, slowing to a stop at the stop sign. The road was bumpy and the abs kicked in for no reason, the brakes started juddering like crazy and the vehicle refused to stop. A loaded pickup was driving on the street and I was headed right in its path. I twice tried releasing the pedal and then reapplying it. The send time finally worked and the car came to a hard stop. All occupants were thrown forward. Seven year old in the back in a booster was complaining that the seat belt hurt her neck from the force of the stop.
I was driving my vehicle through a parking lot at a low rate of speed (approximately 5 mph) with my wife and three children in the car. A pedestrian suddenly stepped out from a shopping strip on the passenger side to cross the road, about 8–10 feet in front of my vehicle. I immediately attempted to apply the brakes manually. However, the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system unexpectedly took over and completely prevented me from braking. At that moment: - the car began vibrating and shaking while continuing forward at the same speed. - the brake pedal was locked and completely unresponsive to my repeated attempts to press it. - the pedestrian, realizing the vehicle was not stopping, was forced to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. After several seconds, the automatic braking system finally disengaged, at which point the brake pedal returned to normal function and I was able to regain manual control. This incident was extremely dangerous and could have resulted in a catastrophic accident, with both my family and the pedestrian at serious risk. The automatic braking system not only failed to stop for a pedestrian directly in front of the vehicle, but it also disabled my ability to manually apply the brakes.
These vehicles are a hazard to the driver, passengers and others on the road. I have been experiencing regular failures of the brakes, which failed to stop the vehicle when and where intended. Always at speeds below 20mph, uneven pavement/surface, the vehicle experiences strong vibrations in the front, shakes violently and skids forward for a few yards uncontrollably. Brake pedal is unresponsive and must be slammed as hard as possible to have any effect on stopping the vehicle. I have been in near collision situations several times already, where I rolled onto the road with incoming traffic or almost rolled into the intersection. The vehicle is at the dealership for a month if not longer by now, for the third time and Hyundai corporate refuses to provide any solution. Nhtsa and dot must open a proper investigation into this. Hyundai refuses to solve it, has no solution and yet fails to recognize the defect and issue a recall or do anything about it. Fed government must step in ASAP.
When I am braking on a road with bad condition (bumpy, uneven, some minor potholes, etc. ) the car starts to skid causing the wheel to shake, I lose control of the vehicle, and my stopping distance increases. It's like the abs is overly sensitive and kicks in whenever the road has any of the problems stated above. This has almost led me to rear-end another car who is in front of me several times. This problem happens almost daily. My children, husband, and I drive in this car daily and it puts all of us at risk. I took my car to a Hyundai dealership , (napelton's auto park of urbana) and they were not able to reproduce the problem, therefore they could not find anything wrong. The vehicle and component have not been inspected by anyone except for the dealership mentioned. No warning lights, messages, and other symptoms have been displayed at any point in time, before, during, or after the problem occurs.
Brakes won't work as expected on slopes/uneven roads.
Abs system is malfunctioning when going over bumps. For instance, I tried braking when going over small bumps and car started jerking and skidding almost rear ending car and finally brakes kicked in at end. Happened 4 times now after buying it a year ago. This is a known incident online that needs to be addressed. Could be very dangerous at higher speeds and cause a wreck. Dealers apparently aren’t doing anything or Hyundai.
On 9/21 around 5:30pm, turned right from university Ave to n eustis st, eustis is very bumpy due to potholes. My Palisade’s abs kicked in and I was not able to break my car before the red traffic light. The car went over the light. If there was a car in front of me, I wouldn’t be able to stop my car without accident. This is not the first time my Palisade’s abs suddenly engaged. The abs seems always kick in when driving in low speed on a bumpy road. I am concerned someday I will have an accident due to the faulty abs.
The braking system has been an ongoing issue, shuddering and grinding when braking and hitting an uneven surface, especially at slower speeds. It has consistently become worse, shuddering, grinding and not stopping when going down a driveway. Tonight when going less than 20mph and on a smooth surface, it would not stop when coming up to a light/intersection. The shuddering and grinding was much worse and the car kept going forward as if it were on a sheet of ice. The car slid forward more than 20 feet, coming within a few inches of rear-ending the vehicle ahead. It was terrifying! it did the same thing 2 more times in the 3. 5 miles to my driveway. Thank goodness there was no other traffic. This is not normal at all and I’m in fear of driving it again.
I am writing to formally report a safety concern regarding the anti-lock braking system (abs) in the 2024 Hyundai Palisade, which I believe may be a widespread issue affecting this model year. The problem has raised significant safety concerns, as it directly impacts the vehicle's braking performance. Recently, I began experiencing issues with the abs system in my 2024 Hyundai Palisade. The brake pedal feels unusually soft or pulsates when braking, and there have been instances of skidding or loss of traction during routine stops were I have ended up in the middle of an intersection. I took the vehicle to a Hyundai service center, where they claim the system was performing normal. The technicians noted that the issue could be linked to the abs control module or wheel speed sensors, but they could not provide a definitive diagnosis. The system has not been able to function properly since the issue started, and I am concerned about the vehicle’s safety. As a safety-critical system, the abs is essential for maintaining control of the vehicle during braking situations, particularly under adverse driving conditions. The malfunctioning abs system poses a significant risk to the safety of both the driver and passengers, as well as other road users. The inability to rely on the abs system increases the risk of accidents, particularly in situations where braking efficiency is crucial. I have contacted my local Hyundai dealership for assistance, and they have attempted to address the issue through diagnostics and repairs. However, the problem persists, and I am concerned that this may not be an isolated case but rather a widespread defect affecting other 2024 Palisade owners. Given the severity of this issue and its potential to affect a large number of consumers, I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this problem to determine if it is a manufacturer defect that warrants a recall.
The abs system has malfunctioned 4 times now while braking when going over an uneven surface- railroad tracks, uneven older roads in the area. The car will start shaking and lunge forward even with the brake all the way down to floor. This has caused me to almost hit 4 vehicles now. Yes, it is available for inspection. My safety, as well as others on the road are put at risk until this issue is fixed. The first dealership I took the vehicle to on 8/28/25 told me there were no issues and couldn't find anything wrong. The problem has since been replicated by the 2nd dealer who has looked at the vehicle 9/22/25. No warnings or messages popped up on the dash at any occurrence. Their response was that they called the manufacturer and explained the issue and they were told that this is normal and is intended to do this- continue to move towards other vehicles when brake is engaged. This does not seem to be correct and appears that there is even a class-action lawsuit for the same issue that was filed early 2025.
I have 25 Palisade calligraphy and from the last two months I almost went 7-8 times to the dealership because of the abs issue. When going over rougher road, railroad tracks, and also uneven surfaces brake is not working at that time. It is an issue that only happens under very specific conditions like slow speeds (under 10 mph), uneven surface (gravel, railroad tracks, speed bumps, driveway entry). Acts like abs is activated but it the car isn't acknowledging that it is. I work in manhattan and that is very crowdy place and at that time my car brake is not working, I almost hit the crowd because my car is not stopping at the stop line, it is very serious issue, please consider it and take this feedback.
In multiple instances, the abs is engaging on uneven surfaces when it should not. It occurs when pulling into my driveway and just happened this morning in the car drop off line. I was going no more than 5mph when the car in front of me stopped. I hit the brakes and the abs engaged (along with the crash alarm) causing a skid. No accident occurred, but it was unsettling.
We own a Hyundai Palisade that continues to experience unexpected abs engagement while driving, causing sudden and unsafe braking. This issue has nearly resulted in multiple accidents and poses a serious safety risk to my family and others on the road. The vehicle is currently at the dealership, and we’ve been informed that Hyundai is aware of the problem but does not yet have a fix. It is unacceptable that such a severe safety defect remains unresolved. We urge NHTSA to investigate this issue and hold Hyundai accountable for ensuring a timely and permanent solution.
Any time I brake on bumpy roads or rail road tracks, my brakes start bouncing and I'm not able to completely brake until I've passed the bumps. There's bumpy roads all over and this is very unsafe and concerning every time it happens. The abs system needs to be looked at.
It appears that the abs system engages/actuates while driving over gravel or uneven/dirt roads. When the issue occurs, the steering wheel locks up and the vehicle loses almost all braking control. No warning lights, messages or audible chimes show up when the issue occurs. My wife and I have both experienced this issue on numerous occasions. It has become a safety concern since we almost ended up in a ditch. . . My wife and young children were in the vehicle. I am fearful that we could potentially crash or hit someone due to loss of vehicle control. The vehicle is being brought to the dealership on September 18, 2025, where I will make them aware of this concern. Note: the provided "additional details" below are based on the most recent occurrence.
While driving and slowing down at a stop light the car started to trigger the anti lock brakes. The car was shaking and it would not stop. I put the car in park right before hitting the car in front of me. It was a sunny day with no poor road conditions. The road was a little bumpy but not anything extreme.
When driving over bumps (speed bumps, railroad tracks, sewer lids etc. ) at a slow speed while pressing the brakes, the rear passenger brake produces a shuddering or a grinding sensation. This issue has been confirmed by other drivers who have operated my vehicle. When this occurs, it feels as though the vehicle is not stopping properly and the brakes are slipping. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership on two separate occasions; however, the technicians were unable to duplicate the concern. After the most recent inspection, the dealership stated that they could not identify an issue. There are no warning messages or lights displayed on the dashboard when this happens. Through further research, I have found that a number of other owners have reported experiencing the same problem on the NHTSA site. This concerns me that others and myself are having this same issue and there has yet to be a recall or some type of technical service bulletin so the dealers will address this issue.
Yesterday while driving over train tracks and braking for a red light in the distance, my brakes pulsed as if I were on ice and my car could not stop. The road conditions were dry, with the temperature outside around 75 degrees. I was driving 20mph max and nearly hit the car in front of us as my brakes would not engage. My daughter and I were both terrified. My car has around 13k miles on it. Since purchasing the car last October I frequently feel the abs pulse while driving over bumps and braking at the same time. I do believe this could be replicated. I thought it was just a quirk of the car or a computer glitch that occurs when braking on rougher terrain. But yesterday while braking I was unable to stop, nearly causing a collision. Luckily the car ahead moved forward so we avoided a crash. There were no warning lamps or messages. I'm very scared to drive this car now. Please help.
I was coming down a hill slowing down and when I hit a dip in the pavement the abs engaged and the car was shuttering and would not stop. It has happened a few times now on uneven surfaces like potholes or bumps in the road.
Driving and while stopping at a red light on an uneven road almost crashed into the car in front of me due to brakes not stopping, abs was activated and I could not stop car made a grinding sounds and my steering wheel shook and sho did the car.
Was driving down a side street going less than 20 mph, came to a stop sign and attempted to brake. The vehicle did not brake, and upon pressing the brake pedal harder the abs system activated. Vehicle did not stop for the stop sign and ended up partially in the oncoming traffic lane.
When going over roughts that are considered rough the abs braking system does not engage and I have multiple times of almost hitting the vehicle in front of me cause the abs are multiapplying but not stopping in a normal time, instead the distance is longer. . . This only happens on rough roads currently and not off roading but actual concrete/asphalt service/highway roads.
A class action lawsuit has been filed for this issue which Hyundai refuses to acknowledge our 2025 Palisade is having this issue on a regular basis. When it occurs the car becomes very difficult to stop we feel as do the lawyers in the class action in new york California and ohio that this is a serious safety situation. We have had the car to the dealer and as previous owners have stated it is not acknowledged.
When applying the brakes on uneven surfaces, the vehicle lunges forward, shutters and shakes and is uncontrollable, the brakes fail to work and increases stopping distance. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be fixed. This has happened multiple times.
I was recently involved in an accident with my 2020 Palisade that I believe may have been caused by a brake failure. I was simply moving the vehicle from one part of a driveway to another when, as I drove over a drainage ditch, the brakes did not respond and the car suddenly accelerated into a tree. I sustained facial injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The vehicle is currently at canby motors in bel air and is available for inspection. The vehicle has only been inspected by canby motors to my knowledge at this time. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

Abs kicks in with even the slightest bump. Had an incident a couple weeks ago where I went over a bump while leaving a store and the car almost did not stop before hitting oncoming traffic. Have had issues for 10 months with the car not accelerating properly or shifting properly. Have tried to drive in every mode (Smart, sport, comfort) and nothing makes it better. I have had the vehicle to the shop 3 times. First 2 times said no problem. The third time stated my rear seal is leaking and transmission is leaking as well as 4x4 coupler needs replaced. I feel unsafe to drive in this vehicle with me and my children.
I've been dealing with an ongoing issue with my abs kicking in when slowing down and driving over a bumpy surface since I purchased my car. I first reported this issue to Hyundai dealership and Hyundai corporate customer care in July 2024. (as well as the NHTSA) at that time I had experienced this issue around 5 times. Since then, up to the present, I experience this issue on a regular basis and have brought my car into the local Hyundai dealership 4 times over the past year to fix. Each time I got the car back. . . It still was not fixed. I even had a technician from the dealership ride with me so I could show them. . . And he verified there is a safety issue. The dealership communicated with the Hyundai tech line and they were instructed to replace the esc module in the abs system. I picked up my car today, and the issue is still there. I went back to the dealer and even showed them a video of it happening today and the dealership said there is nothing they can do. Hyundai claims there is nothing wrong even though I have several videos and even had a local mechanic from the Hyundai dealership ride with me to experience this safety issue. I have called Hyundai corporate again to escalate this safety concern. There is clearly a big problem and Hyundai needs to fix it before there is a serious accident or injury. Maybe pressure from your administration could help. I am willing to speak with anyone needing more information or copies of some of the videos I have taken.
Date: [xxx] time: 12:00 pm location: [xxx] (heading toward [xxx] ). - turned left into the second entrance to the parking lot between [xxx] and [xxx]. My vehicle: 2024 Hyundai Palisade night edition incident summary while entering the parking lot, the vehicle in front of me braked. When I attempted to brake (approx. 10 mph), my vehicle: - began pulsing/jerking, consistent with abs engaging. No matter how hard I pressed the brake my car would not stop it's kept pulsing - alerts and beeping with a forward collision warning went off - car lurched/jumped forward rather than stopping smoothly. This resulted in a minor rear-end contact with the vehicle ahead. Concerns for safety of myself and others because the car did not stop when hitting the brakes nor the collision warning initiate braking. Concerns - concern that abs or forward-collision system malfunctioned. - service appointment scheduled for 9/9/2025 at 9:45 am with Hyundai dealership. - will keep a copy of the service summary for documentation. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I went to stop at an intersection, and the car started vibrating, the antilock blocks engaged, but it would not slow the car down, depressing the brakes further would not cause the car to slow down, and I had to swerve off the road to keep from hitting the car in front of me. The power steering seem to be affected because the steering wheel was vibrating, and it was hard to steer it off the road to prevent a collision. The road was smooth, and there did not seem to be any apparent reason for whatever malfunction was going on.

When going over a bump/rough pavement at a slow speed and applying the brakes, there is a loud grinding noise and vibration on the brake pedal. The vehicle does not brake as fast as normal. This leads to extended braking distance. This has happened three times to us and haven’t been able to recreate. We are taking it in to the dealership to be evaluated.
The abs system in my 2024 Hyundai Palisade limited engaged abnormally while making a slow turn. I was going about <10mph when my Palisade started to shake violently and I could not brake nor control the vehicle. I had two other passengers and if I was unable to gain control I would have jumped a curb and possibly rolled over since I was in a turn. I have not reported this nor spoken to a dealership. I am not sure how this will help since this has been reported multiple times by other Palisade owners and dealerships and Hyundai refuse to do anything about it. There were no warning lights or messages displayed. The vehicle also has the latest software update applied.
