36 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2013

Purchased used vehicle in March of 2013 at 32700 miles. 4 mos later at 43000 miles rear brakes began grinding severely. Took it to the dealer and they informed me the rear caliper got stuck/froze and the grinding damaged the rotor. Brake pad and rotor on rear driver side must be replaced and brake pad and rotor on passenger side needs resurfacing. Also esc light has been turning off and on and dealership claims there is no recall on the brake switch despite the NHTSA having the brake switch listed as defective and causing issues with the esc.

37 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

Engine light and esc light came on and would not accelerate appropriate.

38 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

Esc off light on dash then check engine. Code is p0504 for brake switch. This condition is covered under other Hyundai campaigns and recalls but not for our VIN / build date. Please consider working with Hyundai to provide resolution to this issue. We are also being told there is a two week wait to have this repair performed. Vehicle safety during this delay is a concern should the esc system malfunction while driving. Thank you.

39 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

While driving my 2007 Santa Fe going apc. 30 mph my car tried to stop itself. This has happened before but then stopped for a few months. My esc light comes on each time. Thank god I wasn't on the interstate. I also have had the problem with my tire cupplingg. But my car trying to stop itself puts my life at risk. Something needs to be done before someone does get killed.

40 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

The vehicle's esc will come on intermittently while driving and the vehicle appears to apply the brakes causing the vehicle to veer violently to the right (a very scary and potentially dangerous situation, especially at higher speeds. ) the vehicle was brought to freehold Hyundai shortly after I purchased it in 2007 and it took over a week to presumably diagnose and fix the problem. This is an intermittent problem that has recently started again. I can drive the car for weeks with no issues and then suddenly you are driving and the problem occurs. The car is no longer under warranty and Hyundai wants to charge a fee just to diagnose a problem that is well documented on the internet and should already have a resolution in place. . In my opinion, this is a major safety issue and should be subject to recall.

41 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

My experience and observation is same what is explain in the earlier post. I car does have break light switch failure which was not covered under the recall. Unfortunately I have shell out $70 from pocket to fix it. The Hyundai dealer (Hyundai mark zimmerman) charged me $291 for fixing the tps and programming the ecm. When I would begin acceleration the vehichle would hesitate then take off rapidly then I would loose power to a speed of @ 25 miles per hour and the esc off switch would appear on the dashboard followed by the check engine light. I safely pulled over and turned the vehicle off for about 30 seconds. Once I turned the vehichle back on, the dashboard lights would go out and I would repeat this cycle 8-9 times before being able to drive normally. On several occassions after driving normally for about 10 miles the esc off light would reappear on the dashboard in my opinion this is a serious malfunction and certainly dangerous combination and should be labeled as a recall. Hyundai should value the safety and expectations of their car buyers. Thanks!.

42 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2013

When I would begin acceleration the vehicle would hesitate then take off rapidly then I would loose power to a speed of @ 15 miles per hour and the esc off switch would appear on the dashboard followed by the check engine light. I safely pulled over and turned the vehicle off for about 30 seconds. Once I turned the vehicle back on, the dashboard lights would go out and I would repeat this cycle 8-9 times before being able to drive normally. On several occasions after driving normally for about 10 miles the esc off light would reappear on the dashboard and I would loose power while driving sometimes on a highway which was extremely dangerous to go from 60 mph to coasting at @ 15 mph. Diagnosis from the car dealer is the throttle position censor and throttle body part. In my opinion this is a serious malfunction and certainly dangerous combination and should be labeled as a recall. Hyundai should value the safety and expectations of their car buyers. When we as consumers purchase a vehicle we expect an excellent quality product. I researched this vehicle before purchasing and was led to buy it because of the many solid qualities I found. As a consumer, I am disappointed in this malfunction and equally disappointed in Hyundai for not stepping up to the plate to correct this major safety, quality and important issue. Furthermore, I was in the market to upgrade my sante fe, however now I will be looking into another vehicle to purchase.

43 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2013

Cruise control would turn on but not allow a speed to be set. Also esc off light remained on dash solid. We never received any notice of a recall from Hyundai. I see numerous other Hyundai owners who have had this problem. Also the check engine light has been on and won't turn off no matter how many times the cap is taken off then put back on after three turns. Fuel reads empty when tank is full.

44 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2012

While driving at 35 mph, accelerator suddenly did no longer respond and "check engine" and esc warning lit up and speed decreased. I was able to coast at 5-10 mph to the nearest dealer 8 miles away. They immediately diagnosed it to the tps unit (throttle position sensor), which was replaced under an extended warranty. However this is the second incident with this car. The first time happened in October 2007 just a week after we bought the car. We had to coast down a mountain from 8000 feet. At that time the tps unit was also replaced but under the original warranty. It is scary if/when it happens while passing a vehicle on the freeway or even in dense city traffic. I will alert Hyundai to this problem myself.

45 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle started to shudder and there was a grinding noise coming from under the vehicle. In addition, the ecs warning light would illuminate intermittently as the brakes seized. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 46,000.

46 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

The sensors that read the gas went out about 5 years ago.

47 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Faulty brake switch a/b. Obd codes p0571 & p0504 recorded. Symptoms: brake lights would not light with brake pedal depressed. Cruise control would turn on but not allow a speed to be set. Also esc off light remained on dash solid. Seems to be exact symptoms associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v122000. We never received any notice of that recall from Hyundai. When I brought it to the attention of my local Hyundai dealership, I was told that recall did not apply to my vehicle. When I contacted Hyundai support I was told the same thing. I see numerous other Hyundai owners who have had this problem were also told the recall did not apply to their vehicle (via internet reports). I believe the recall should have applied to my vehicle. I have replaced the part myself and the repair seems to have corrected all the symptoms. The removed part is a genuine part of Hyundai/kia. It is p/n 92810-3k000. Below the p/n is ">pa66-gf30<" and "infac". There is a red and a green stripe painted across this face of the part. On another face of the part is stamped "6d07".

48 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that he attempted to park in his driveway, but the vehicle would not shift into park. The contact also noticed that the brake light was not illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated that the VIN was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 09v122000 (service brakes, hydraulic:switches:brake light). The failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage was 44,800. Updated 08/28/lj the consumer also stated on three occasions the esc malfunctioned for no reason while in traffic. After pulling over, shutting down and restarting the vehicle, the problem cleared. Updated 08/29/12.

49 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

Brake light switch malfunction caused vehicle transmission shifter to be stuck in drive or reverse. Vehicle transmission shifter could not be shifted into park. Malfunction also caused electronic stability control to shut off and cruise control did not deactivate when the brake pedal was depressed. Brake light switch was replaced in 2010 due to malfunction with this new brake light switch, which also malfunctioned. Hyundai claimed vehicle was not part of recall id# 78947 for service brakes, hydraulic:switches:brake light. However, again, brake light switch was replaced in 2010 with another malfunctioning brake light switch.

50 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the electronic stability control warning lamp illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The contact mentioned that he was able to restart the vehicle but the failure recurred within driving a very short distance. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance and advised that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 09v122000 (service brakes, hydraulic:switches:brake light). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 17,500. Updated 04/27/lj the consumer stated the vehicle lost power and the esc light illuminated. The dealer replaced the throttle position sensor and updated the ecm.

51 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

Esc off indicator stays illuminated problem: no brake lights. Dealership states my vehicle is outside the manufacture date range included in the TSB campaign # 092 / 09-01-018 and will not replace the stop lamp switch under warranty. (my Santa Fe was manufactured in June 2007). Approx. $75 replacement cost for a known issue. According to online forums this problem is not limited to the manufacture dates indicated in the TSB. This is a serious safety issue; one that I would have hoped Hyundai would take more seriously.

52 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2011

Esc off light is illuminated when vehicle is not in park, and check engine light is illuminated. Brake lights don't work (seem to be always on). I got the problem code from the vehicle, did some research, and found Hyundai campaign 092 covered these conditions caused by a faulty stop lamp switch. I contacted Hyundai, and they informed me my vehicle was manufactured (July 2006) prior to the the recall date range (which started in oct 2006), and would not be replaced without charge by a dealer. This is the same problem as was covered in the recall, and Hyundai should be liable to fix it!.

53 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2011

Had a malfunctioning fuel gauge. Which read 1/4 tank of gas, with an empty tank. This happened after the guage had been jumping from full to empy a few times. Now the cars steering is starting to go. The car will all of a sudden pull while going around a banking turn, in either direction! on turns the esc will constantly go off, even on turns it never used to happen on. Also the passenger side visor has fallen off completely. The car only has 88,000 miles and this all started happening November 2011. Every time I bring it to my mechanic he says there is nothing wrong with it and it continues to happen. Yesterday there was a recall for cars being built by our manufacturer in the same year with the same problems, why was my car not recalled????? 2007 Hyundai sante fe.

54 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

Stop lamp switch replaced without any problem noted on 28 oct 2009 by dealer under recall. 3 October 2011 the electronic stability control off switch illuminates and dealer replaces stop lamp switch and charges $71. 00. Hyundai states these are valid charges on this recalled item since it was already replaced once.

55 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

On my 2007 Hyundai sante check engine light is on. Esc off light is on. Cruise control has stopped working. I have found that there is a NHTSA action #peo9003 and also a NHTSA recall campaign number 09v122000 to replace the stop lamp switch which causes these malfunctions. . In a letter from Hyundai motor America (campaign 092/ 09-01-018) dated Jun 2009, it states that these malfunctions may lead to a crash. Yet, when I took my car to the Hyundai dealer they refused to replace the stop lamp switch at no charge to me as stated in the letter. The Hyundai technical service bulletin states that dealers must perform this campaign on all affected vehicles whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair. I have had my vehicle in the shop several times for unrelated issues since 2009 but this repair was never mentioned, offered or performed. I feel that I am driving an unsafe vehicle and Hyundai is avoiding a major safety issue.

56 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

The electronic stability control (esc) on my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe se shuts off while driving. It cannot be forced back on my either pushing the on/off switch or stopping the car, shutting off the engine, and restarting. This has happened approximately six times over the last year. The problem was first noticed when the vehicle had approximately 20,000 miles on it and is now happening more frequently at 46000 miles. The dealer cannot determine the cause.

57 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2010

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe - may 27, 2010 I was driving on the interstate at 65mph when the passenger rear wheel locked up causing the car to fishtale - as I moved over in to the slow lane, it fishtaled again. The dealer it was towed to said it was the yaw sensor which they replaced. I informed them at that time that the ecs off light had been coming on to which they replied it had nothing to do with the yaw sensor I called the week of July 4th to let the dealer know that the ecs off light came on again - they informed me that this has been a problem for many Santa Fe's and they needed me to come down (150+ miles one way) to hook it up to see what the code tells them. On July 19, 2010 driving 75mph on the interstate, both rear wheels locked up and there were no brakes. This car is a danger to my life!.

58 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

My esc light comes on and goes off intermittently while driving, this has been happening for probably the past year. I have never noticed any effect on the performance of the vehicle and since I didn't know what esc was I did not pay it a great deal of attention to it. My passenger air bag light also does this "coming on and going off thing" so I assumed it was a weird dash light glitch. About 4 months ago vehicle started having electrical problems (power door locks sometimes stop working). Finally today I noticed my rear brake lights were not coming on. . . Obviously I was very concerned and called Hyundai to find out if there were any recalls. Hyundai gave me a case # but said my vehicle is not covered under current recall, so I am not sure if anything is wrong?.

59 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

My 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe will randomly apply the brakes while driving. Very dangerous. The brakes will apply making the car pull to the right or left may cause the car to veer into the next lane. I would need to press on the brakes to make them release. The first time this happened I thought it was the brake pads needing to be replaced we replaced the brakes and the problem did not occur again for maybe a year. It happen so much in 2011& 2012 I did not feel safe driving the car. I took my car to hardin Hyundai 6/09/12 explained in detail that the brakes would apply when I was driving, and the esc light was coming on. I told the dealership that we had changed the brake pads hoping this would resolve the issue it did not. The dealer recommended 3 tires, alignment and pins were missing when we did the brake job and that was causing the brakes to stick. We did what was suggested. This did not correct the problem. The dealership did not put it on the computer to diagnosis the issue. The car is out of warranty now so I took it to an independent mechanic he did diagnosis it with the computer. The esc module is bad. Now I a¿¿m driving with the esc off. When driving with the esc off it doesn'¿¿t randomly brake but will sometimes make a horrible grinding sound and the brakes stick when the brakes are applied. This is not good either. Why require this safety feature in every car if it will fail and cause an accident and if the dealership can not diagnosis it correctly. Some Hyundais have been recalled for this problem so I feel the dealerships should be well aware of this issue. The work order does not mention brakes nor did they try to diagnosis it correctly. Was this an intentional move by Hyundai so they do not have to acknowledge that their esc modules are still failing. I feel extremely lucky that I have not been injured due to this malfunction. Hyundai failed on this issue.

60 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2010

My 2007 Santa Fe was purchased used in 2010. The first dayi had it, it gave me the problem. Every so often, I never know when it'll happen, the front tires kind of lock up with a grinding sound and the car violently jarrs to the right. All the while, the esc light is flashing. It is very scary and I'm afraid may cause an accident eventually. We have tried driving it with the esc turned off and it did not help. I brought it to the dealership and they could not fix anything. I later called them when it kept happening and they told me it was just "a burp" and they wouldn't be able to detect it unless it happened while hooked up to their computer, which of course is impossible. Not much later, with only 3 of my 6 six years up and only about half of my covered milage used, the dealership sent me a letter telling me my warranty was expired. I have recently had two mechanics check it out and they cannot fix it. I do not trust this car and would give anything to go back in time and purchase an american car instead!!.

61 Electronic Stability Control problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2008

We bought a brand new 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe on 8/20/07. The "esc off" light intermittently illuminates on the dashboard. The first time I took it to the dealer for the problem was at 765 miles on 9/13/07. A special part was ordered per the repair order. The next time I took it to the dealer for the same problem was on 10/4/07 at 1863 miles. On 9/4/08 at 14721 miles, it happened again. This time I had an incident right near the dealer where the car lurched forward and pulled to the right. Thankfully I did not have an accident. The repair order states the dealer could not duplicate customer concern. On 10/2/08, at 15462 miles, I again took the car to the dealer to have the car looked at for the same problem, the "esc off" light illuminating on the dash. The repair order states a "tab broken?" on 10/13/08, I was driving down I-95 in cherry hill, NJ (125 miles from home) when the "esc off" light came on again. The car again made a scraping noise under the engine. The car suddenly lurched forward again. I was able to pull to the side of the road. I turned the car off, turned it back on and pulled onto the highway again. The same thing happened. It was towed to burns Hyundai in cherry hill. The service manager said it was a broken yaw ring. After that it seemed fine for a while but within the last several weeks, the "esc off" light has come on intermittently at miles 17697, 18948, 19292 and 20076. I haven't had the dragging sound under the hood; however, I don't understand why this problem hasn't been able to be fixed. If you can help me to resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
