36 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

When driving our 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe the fuel gauge sporadically moves down to empty and fluctuates giving a false reading and causing major confusion. This is a safety issue and should be recalled. It seems to be a major issue among the 2008 model because when I contacted a mechanic he knew what exactly I was talking about.

37 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

The fuel gauge is not working properly. The fuel gauge goes from reading half then jumps to empty. Then the check engine light goes on then off again. I went to a Hyundai dealer a they did a diagnostics check on the vehicle and found the fuel level sensor a circuit working intermittent. Hyundai is well aware that this is a common problem, along with many mechanics in the new york tri-state area. I think this should be a recall replacement item, because this is a very dangerous problem. If someone runs out of fuel unknowingly when driving because the fuel gauge is not working properly they will loose power steering and power breaks and most likely loose control of the vehicle and the results can be fatal. The same results can occur if someone is driving in a remote area in the winter and they run out of fuel.

38 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

Fuel gauge on our 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe has recently become erratic. It fluctuates widely over the course of a few minutes with the check engine (on/off) and low fuel indicators also lighting periodically. After having the check engine light problem investigated, I was told there was a fuel sensor problem. . Read more...

39 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

The fuel gauge no longer reads properly. The check engine light is on and the code is po464 which indicates a problem with the fuel sensor. There are so many owners with the same problem why is there not a recall on this??.

40 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2013

Like many other complaints I have read, the fuel gauge indicated empty when it was full. It would jump erratically from full to empty and in between. Cost over $550 to fix.

41 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

I'm also experiencing the same problem with the fuel sensor failing. The fuel gauge shows empty and then later that I have fuel. I called my dealer and they told me this is a common problem. They said at this time there's no recall out for this repair, but agreed that there should be. This can become a safety issue and could cause serious injuries to the driver as well as other vehicles on the road. I love my vehicle and would hate for this to cause me to switch if I'm going to continually have to take care of this issue. I feel that Hyundai should step up and that care of this faulty part.

42 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

After the vehicle reached about 70,000 miles, the gas gauge started to show erratic levels and then after a month the fuel gauge stopped working at all. The engine check light would go on and off also then stayed on constantly.

43 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

I started my vehicle and the fuel gauge began to move up and down, showing empty, then over half full, then just under half. I switched to the mode indicating how many miles left until I would be out of gas, which also fluctuated by over 75 miles. This fluctuation is consistent and now is becoming a big concern in regards to longer trips my young family takes. This obviously is a known problem, based on the numerous complaints registered about this same malfunction. Should my family be stranded on a roadside, or worse yet, get into an accident due to this problem, Hyundai will be held responsible for negligence on their part to act on a known vehicle defect.

44 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2013

My fuel gauge is very erratic ;we never know how much fuel we have. It flucuates from full to empty at will causing us to try to judge by the miles driven or fill up every few days. I would hate to run out of gas on an interstate in middle of the night because of amiscallculation on the mileage. I feel this is a safety hazard and the company seems aware of it.

45 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

Our used Santa Fe's warranty expired on April 28th, 2013. A month later, the fuel gauge and mileage reporting started to fluctuate wildly, and for the past month we've understood that the fuel sensor assembly is faulty. The accurate reporting of the fuel level is now impossible and it is clear to us that this will be at least a $600 repair job. Hyundai deflected our e-mails to them, so I encourage folks to also write a letter to them by postal mail. The address they gave us is Hyundai motor America p. O. Box 20850 fountain valley, CA 92728-0850. It is ridiculous timing that this occurs after an expensive maintenance appointment and right after the second-owner warranty expired. A system like this should not fail with only 44k miles on a vehicle, and Hyundai can't convince me otherwise. This needs to be a recall, and owners who have gone ahead and done this repair for exorbitant fees need to be reimbursed. In recent news, asiana airlines represented the honor and integrity of korean corporate culture, I'd expect the same from Hyundai who has thus far failed in their duty to the customer.

46 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

The fuel gauge fluctuates and also causes the check engine light to go on an off.

47 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2013

Fuel gauge does not work. Check engine light came on when the fuel gauge stopped working. Driving on an interstate traveling 65 mph, my sante fe stopped accelerating and shut down almost causing a multicar accident.

48 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2013

The fuel gauge on our '08 Hyundai sante fe has recently become erratic. It fluctuates widely (25-50%) over the course of a few minutes with the check engine and low fuel indicators also periodically lighting. It has become so unreliable that we are now relying on the odometer readings to estimate fuel levels. Searching the internet, this appears to be a very common problem with this vehicle and relates to weak pins in the originally installed fuel senders. There are several reports that the apparent problem is fixed in the replacement part (visibly larger pins) which makes me question why the company would not be responsible for replacing a clearly defective part. Our vehicle has approximately 70,000 miles on it.

49 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated the fuel gauge failed whenever the fuel vehicle was being filled with fuel the gauge does not show the full it only shows empty. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated they had to replace two different parts on the computer that operate the fuel gauge. The dealer stated the repair cost was $800. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 62,000.
