1 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2020

The fuel gauge varies widely. It is difficult to know at times how much gas the car truly has. This seems to by a systemic problem with this vehicle.

2 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Both of the fuel gauges would drop down to empty wynfall while stationary. If I turn off my car then turn it back on it would stay empty even after being at the gas station. I do not know how much gas I have left in my car and has been on going problem and a safety issue.

3 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2018

Fuel gauge went up and down. Ran out of gas going 70mph on turnpike it was harrowing. Gauge says full and then empty right away. Fuel sensors need replaced, check engine light is now showing. I notice many others with the same problem. Mine couldve caused a bad accident. Outrageously expensive and cost prohibitive to fix what I think is a safety issue. 70,000 miles is not a lot for this to have happened.

4 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2017

Fuel gauge does not read properly will go from full to empty leading to running out of fuel while driving.

5 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2017

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge displayed an incorrect reading. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 52,000.

6 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

The fuel gauge slowly oscillates between the (assumed) correct value and zero, often triggering the low-level light. It makes it impossible to be confident about how much gas you have in the vehicle. It doesn't matter if the vehicle is stationary, in motion, or what kind of driving condition you are in, or whether the engine is running or not. It seems to be a malfunction in the sensor or electronic controls. My local dealer said this is a common issue (~$400 to fix) but Hyundai hasn't issued a recall because it's not a "safety issue". This is a safety issue as you are never sure whether it is correctly indicating a low fuel level or not. . . I worry about my 16 year old daughter driving by herself at night without knowing whether she has enough gas or not to make it home! if this is a known/common issue for this make/model it should be recalled and repaired by Hyundai.

7 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2016

My fuel gauge is not working now the engine light has come one.

8 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2016

Have had the same issue as others. Fuel gauge isn't working, or works erratically. Check engine light is intermittent. Never know if the engine light is still on for fuel issue or something different, that could be considered dangerous. Code returned as fuel sensor or sending unit. I now believe it has caused issues with my catalytic converter. What does it take for Hyundai to step up to the plate?? I will never buy this again. Too many problems that no one can fix. I swear this car is haunted!.

9 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2016

At approx 65000 miles of normal driving fuel gauge became erratic and unreliable. Guage reads anywhere from full to one eighth and fluctuates almost constantly regardless of actual fuel level. Check engine light on produced error code p0464. This is a dangerous situation.

10 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

Several months ago, the check engine light came on. I took the car to the dealer and while nothing was wrong with the engine, I needed to pay $1000 to repair the sensor because I needed my car emission inspected. In the last month, while on a road trip, the check engine light came on again and the car just lost power and stalled. When we restarted the car, the light was still on but went off the next day. Since then, the check engine light comes on randomly and the fuel gauge jumps all over the place. It will indicate I have 88 miles to empty and then jump back up to 130. The check engine light will come on one day and be off the next.

11 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

Fuel gauge is not working and car is running out of gas even though indicator indicate there is gas. I had both fuel sensors replaced and the problem still continues. I have run out of gas multiple times and recently ran out of gas on an extremely dangerous stretch of 101. With two young children, this continues to be a major safety threat and concern for me. Based on some quick googling it's clear this is a major problem and security concern for other Santa Fe owners and it should be repaired or replaced under a recall.

12 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

The fuel gauge sending unit is inoperative. Perusal of the internet shows it is a common problem with 2007-2013 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles. The fix is $ 500. Hyundai USA and Hyundai worldwide h. Q. Refuse to acknowledge that the problem exists or offer any repairs for the faulty unit or why indeed it failed. Try driving any distance without a gas gauge. The car is useless unless repaired. Manufacturers should either stand behind their vehicles or the public should be advised to look to a more reliable manufacturer for a better, safer and more reliable product.

13 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2015

Check engine light came on. Fuel gauge read empty. I had just filled up a day or so prior. I took to my mechanic he said that it is the fuel sensor. So I fill up the car and reset my trip to 0 every time I fill up now. Otherwise I have no idea how much gas is in the car. . . The fuel gauge jumps around. . . Sometimes it says half empty. . . Sometimes it says low fuel light. This is a dangerous and expensive situation. . . The fuel sensors should not failing! I see that may other people are experiencing the same problem. . . Although this first happened over the summer the problem is ongoing and apparently wide spread.

14 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

Check engine light came on may 28 2015, dealer advised fuel sensor/pump issue, repaired it $$$$ June 5th same issue back at dealer, also will not start and fuel gauge acting up 33rd record of the same issue at ntsha for this 2009, over 100 for the cumulative years for the Santa Fe same issue.

15 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The fuel gauge fluctuates all the time. Sometimes I get a reading but most times it turns on the empty light . I have consulted several Hyundai dealers mechanics and been told that this is a big and frequent problem. I have read of so many complaints , that I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall on said defect. . It is as you know virtually impossible and very expensive and dangerous for me to try to fix. . I've ran out of gas several times and have been in harms way.

16 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

The check engine light came on as I was filling up my vehicle. Once I filled it, I could not get it to start. Took two to three tries to get the vehicle to turn over. I had the battery checked and my battery is good. My fuel gauge sits at empty for the first 100 miles after filling up with the low fuel indicator light on. I have had the car checked and was told it was told I had a problem with the fuel sensor. I had one replaced for $250 in 2014. Car worked fine. Then after 500 miles, the same thing happened. When is Hyundai going to realize that they have a serious issue with this vehicle! I can't even get a fair trade in value for the vehicle due to the problem.

17 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

I'm experiencing a problem with the fuel sensor failing. The fuel gauge shows empty and then slowly rises to indicate I have fuel. Sometimes the fuel indicator light comes on after I've just filled up and stays on for a day or so. I called my dealer and they told me this is a common problem. They said at this time there's no recall out for this repair, but agreed that there should be. This can become a safety issue and could cause serious injuries to the driver as well as other vehicles on the road. I feel that Hyundai should step up and that care of this faulty part.
