39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

I went to a drive through car wash. Put my car in neutral and it drives your car through the wash. Once it was done I changed to drive and tapped lightly to get out. I was going to have the car wash attendant wipe down my car. As I approached him my brakes wouldn’t work and the car continued to accelerate despite not pressing down on the gas pedal. None of my electrical lights were working. It took me onto a busy street in chicago and kept accelerating at full speed. I was trying to brake, put it into neutral or drive, use emergency brake system and nothing was working. I was swerving to avoid hitting other cars or pedestrians. I erratically drove about 1. 5 blocks until I hit another SUV. All my airbags deployed. My full trauma work up was negative at the hospital. I am not sure if anyone sustained major injuries in the other car. I filed an insurance claim and my car was deemed a total loss. Insurance company thinks there was definitely an electrical shortage but did not further investigate. They said it would take more money to investigate the cause rather than paying a lump sum for car. I filed a claim case with Hyundai 2 days after the accident. The initial representative said a case manager would call within 5-7 business days and would like the car preserved in case of investigation. I have called over 5 times and have never received a call back nor an initial call from the case manager assigned. There was no active recalls out at the time and the car was serviced a month prior at a Hyundai dealership. Since the accident occurred we received a new recall that the anti-lock brake system could malfunction and cause an electrical short. But according to recall notice there is still no remedy available.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2022

Icalled my dealer where I purchase my Hyundai & I called Hyundai customer care as well. Both p;laces told me since they do not have a remedy to cure this default there is nothing they can do. They both advised me to park my car away from other vehicles & structures as a fire could be triggered in the engine that could damage the surrounding area. This is preposterous that they recommended me to continue to drive the car but not keep it next to anything. I am a young mother with an 8 month old baby & I am petrified to drive the car & they will not provide me with a substitute car or rental car until they can fix the issue, which they have no timeframe to complete. The recall number for Hyundai is 22v056. Hyundai has it as 218. Please let me know what I can do to expedite this issue & feel safe. Thanks.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2022

Car has repeatedly lost power or hesitated when making turns. Now it lost power and decelerated over 10 mph abruptly while driving on I-65. After deceleration the car would not accelerate to in a normal fashion. Took minutes to get up to speed. Upon a test drive at the dealership, terry lee Hyundai, I was told nothing was wrong with the car. I refused to believe that after my highway driving incident and made them test it again. It produced a dtc code of p0088. After having my car for four days they tried to return it to me again saying nothing was wrong with it. I was dumbfounded. How can I have a drastic highway incident and dtc codes emailed to me via bluelink and nothing be wrong. I feel this car is unsafe for highway driving. May cause a wreck due to the losing power while turning issue and now this highway driving issue. The car drove normal under 60 mph. The turning issue happens when the car makes quick 90 degree turns. Also the engine was replaced due to electrical interference issues at 96000 miles. Car has always had loss of power issues followed by the lack of the ability to accelerate properly. Please help!!!!.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2021

Smelled smoke at a stop light. Continued when light turned green. Pulled over about 30 car lengths later because smoke was coming in the vents. Jumped out of car and ran. Within 2 minutes, entire front engine was completely engulfed in flames. No indicator light came on before. Car was driving perfect.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2021

Multiple complaints about the engine stalling while driving at different speeds causing very dangerous situations the vehicle looses power steering and proper braking mine has done this once so far and I have seen multiple complaints online of the same this happening to others who own the same year make model of the vehicle.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

Vehicle loses all electrical power, despite having a new battery installed by dealer. Battery runs down, sometimes overnight. Dealer cannot find any issues, though something clearly is draining battery power very quickly. It has happened at least 5 times in the past 3 months. Vehicle is operated often enough to preclude such battery drainage. I am bringing it back to the dealer again on 11 June, as this occurred again today (9 June). I purchased a portable machine that jumps the car because this happens so often. My spouse is the primary operator of this vehicle and I fear that the electrical will fail unexpectedly and pose a safety problem. This is a design flaw or a lemon!.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

Over one month ago, my gps viewer showed a wrong time. I reset the clock and exited the feature. The clock quit appearing on the screen. At first I didn't notice it. Then when I did, I wasn't able to enter the program to set the clock: it was all dark on the choices. I read both my manuals and nothing in them talked about this problem. I had several friends read the manual and they couldn't find any information to fix this either. I went to the dealer and have it fixed and they said there is no fix for this. The second time I came to the dealer, the technician ordered the whole head unit and they said I have to wait for the order. It's about 4-5 weeks now and I still haven't heard anything. I called last week and they said there is no eta for it. I do not know what to do anymore.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Wrong tire pressure reading.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

My car just turned off. While I was driving under 15 miles, it turned off, this has happened 3!times since I got the car. The seatbelt in the 2nd row behind the passenger seat sometimes doesn't want to lock. The dealership said that they weren't able to recreate the problems so there's nothing that they could do about it. I spoke to their corporate office and sent emails and no one can fix the issues.

Can was sitting from 7:00 pm on 5/2 and we woke to full on fire from rear of vehicle at 4:50 am on 5/3 - fire CO believes electrical.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2019

Car completely shut down while driving at a slow speed turning right from a stop sign, was lucky to be able to pull over to side of road. All electrical/computer shut down, engine cut off. Restarted but engine sputters, feels like it is trying to shift gears while still in park. It was a very unsafe situation. Was not able to get started to drive home. One week earlier I noticed the computer acting up when I first started up, but restated and drove anyway (no problem that time while driving).

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

Vehicle has intermittent starting issues. Starts when it wants too. Car is only 18 months old 17,100 miles. 2 days in row car wouldn't turn over but everything in the car worked. Lights, radio, power windows etc. Computer wasn't detecting key that was in my hand.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

The warning light saying that the emergency braking system is temporarily disabled keeps coming on and off multiple times a day and it disables the adaptive cruise control when I an driving in cruise control. It happens while vehicle is in motion in all kinds of circumstances and weather and have taken car to dealer 3 times without any solution. Have tried cleaning sensors multiple times. Dealer has seen it happening twice in a 10-15 minute test drive documenting it. Hyundai consumer assurance has not resolved the problem either. It has been happening since December 2018. It was not happening at all for the first 14-15 months of ownership. It happens at various speeds.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2018

Vehicle has intermittent starting issues similar to a low or dead battery. Will only start when it wants. Usually happens at first start of the day or late afternoon. Putting vehicle in drive is harder than normal. Transmission gear shifts have hard jerking feel.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2017

While driving on December 11, 2017 after dark, down a mountain pass in colorado, at 55 mph, all of the lights - interior and exterior - failed (turned off) momentarily. When my husband hit the brakes, he could see the brake lights activate in the rear view mirror. After playing with the headlight controls for a few seconds, everything came back on. This happened as my husband was switching from the high beams to the low beams. Even though the interior (dashboard) lights were off, the radio continued to play.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

## VIN passed ## ## the low fuel light on my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport does not illuminate or beep to notify me of low fuel. I was down to almost 10 miles left before I realized I was almost on empty. Dealership has checked codes and told me there are no faulty codes. Now inhave tontake it in again and let them know that it still doesnt work. . I am leaving it on empty so they can see how the light doesnt turn on.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

The driver seat makes squeaking noises all the time. I cant move in my seat without these loud and annoying squeaking noises coming from the back of the seat.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2017

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that since owning the vehicle, the vehicle intermittently failed to start-up as needed. The abs warning light would be illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that the infotainment screen would intermittently go blank causing the backup camera to be inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions however, despite several repairs, the failure persisted. The contact then received notification of NHTSA recall number: 22v056000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the dealer confirmed parts were not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

The contact owned a 2018 (na) Hyundai Santa Fe sport. While driving 35 mph through an intersection, the power steering seized and a red steering wheel and exclamation mark illuminated. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and it was towed to the dealer. The dealer (Hyundai of new port richey 3936 us-19, new port richey, FL, 34652) diagnosed that the vehicle was transmitting data to the steering mechanism; however, the steering mechanism was unable to read and correspond. The steering mechanism needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

Blinking airbag light on front panel and dashboard while car is moving. This occurs when there is a driver with or without a front passenger.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2017

Within days of taking delivery, the vehicle would take 3-4 seconds to accelerate from a stop, and would not fully accelerate until almost 10 seconds later, creating a huge safety issues for times when speedy acceleration (at intersections, close calls, etc. ) was paramount. From there, the infotainment system glitched out and would not turn on until I restarted the car, and it had issues with voice commands intermittently, defeating the purpose of a hands-free device (once again creating more safety concerns). Most regularly, the vehicle would struggle so badly to accelerate from 0-40, and 50-60, and would redline, causing huge stress and strain on the vehicle's power train. Hyundai told me "this is normal" which it is not. This happened daily at intersections, back roads, and on highways--it did not discriminate. I had several near misses when the vehicle refused to accelerate. In fact, just today, I went to accelerate through a turn and had the gas pedal floored because it would not accelerate past 10 mph. It took a full 20 seconds to get up to speed. This has happened in all driving modes: eco, normal, and turbo.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2017

When driving suddenly the car decelerates making it necessary to mash harder on the gas pedal to get the car to continue moving. The usb port does not charge which results in the phone losing battery life you can only use android and apple car onn that port so when traveling long distances you may be without directions. Its an ongoing issue.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

Two issues: severe problem - when driving at a rate of approximately 35mph today on a major city thoroughfare, our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 2. 0t ultimate suffered a sudden and complete loss of power (engine and all electrical systems including lighting). After coming to a stop, the vehicle was stranded in place until it was able to start up again many minutes later. Fortunately no one was physically harmed as the individual driving behind our vehicle was observant enough to identify the issue (despite a lack of brake lights or hazards) and stop in time. No visible engine light or fault code was triggered. Less severe problem: on a regular basis, the vehicle suffers abrupt and sustained loss of power in merging situations (especially when turning on city streets from a stop). This seems to be from an overactive or otherwise ineffective traction control system/programming. Despite even planning for the possible loss of power, this has still resulted in a number of "near miss" situations. A warranty visit has been scheduled for these issue and we will gladly provide the results and/or other updates upon request. We are, however, seriously considering selling the vehicle at a loss due to these two issues.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. While driving approximately 2 mph, the vehicle lost power while turning right or left. The power returned within seconds. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a local dealer. The failure mileage was 1,200.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

I bought the vehicle on 5/7/16. On 6/2/16 I was driving on highway 395 when I noticed smoke coming out of the engine compartment. The car started losing power and eventually died. When I got it pulled over to the side of the road I noticed flames coming out from the front of the engine. I grabbed what I could and got out of the car. Within 5 min the front of the car was engulfed in flames. I had approximately 675 miles on it. I have contacted Hyundai but they have not responded to me. I ordered a copy of the police report but have not received it yet. I have pictures that I have attached. I am concerned about this happening to other people. Thankfully I didn't have grandkids in the car, I'm not sure I would have been able to get them out.
