36 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

Several months ago, the check engine light came on. I took the car to the dealer and while nothing was wrong with the engine, I needed to pay $1000 to repair the sensor because I needed my car emission inspected. In the last month, while on a road trip, the check engine light came on again and the car just lost power and stalled. When we restarted the car, the light was still on but went off the next day. Since then, the check engine light comes on randomly and the fuel gauge jumps all over the place. It will indicate I have 88 miles to empty and then jump back up to 130. The check engine light will come on one day and be off the next.

37 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

Fuel gauge is not working and car is running out of gas even though indicator indicate there is gas. I had both fuel sensors replaced and the problem still continues. I have run out of gas multiple times and recently ran out of gas on an extremely dangerous stretch of 101. With two young children, this continues to be a major safety threat and concern for me. Based on some quick googling it's clear this is a major problem and security concern for other Santa Fe owners and it should be repaired or replaced under a recall.

38 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/07/2015

Check engine light came on and the fuel gauge began jumping all over the place. It would say I had 88 miles to empty and then jump back up to 130. The next day the check engine light was off and then the next it would be back on again. Had a mechanic check the codes and it was a bad fuel sensor. I took my car to the dealership and they replaced both fuel sensors for $416. If I hadn't gotten it fixed, I wouldn't have been able to pass emissions testing which is mandatory in my county. Also, I wouldn't have any clue how much gas I had and could've been stranded.

40 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

I purchased this vehicle used in August of 2015 and when I filled the car up I noticed the fuel gauge didn't read full. Within a few minutes the fuel hand dropped below half full. I hit the trip button to see what the range display was reporting and it was dropping like a rock (started at 200+ miles and dropped down to less than 100 miles). Then a few minutes after that the empty light came on and the check engine light came on. I took it to autozone and they diagnosed it with a p0460. This appears to be a frequent problem on this model car. I can't understand why this is not a recall situation. It is possible to run out of gas while moving (on expressway) which could cause a major accident.

41 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/04/2015

Check engine light came on. Fuel gauge read empty. I had just filled up a day or so prior. I took to my mechanic he said that it is the fuel sensor. So I fill up the car and reset my trip to 0 every time I fill up now. Otherwise I have no idea how much gas is in the car. . . The fuel gauge jumps around. . . Sometimes it says half empty. . . Sometimes it says low fuel light. This is a dangerous and expensive situation. . . The fuel sensors should not failing! I see that may other people are experiencing the same problem. . . Although this first happened over the summer the problem is ongoing and apparently wide spread.

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

We have the same issue on our 2008 Santa Fe as described by many other drivers here. Check engine light goes on and off and the fuel gauge up and down. I'm surprised there hasn't been a recall for this issue yet, since there are so many comments/complaints here.

Fuel gauge has failed, leaving no indication of fuel remaining in vehicle. Could cause crash due to vehicle running out of fuel.

46 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The fuel gauge fluctuates all the time. Sometimes I get a reading but most times it turns on the empty light . I have consulted several Hyundai dealers mechanics and been told that this is a big and frequent problem. I have read of so many complaints , that I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall on said defect. . It is as you know virtually impossible and very expensive and dangerous for me to try to fix. . I've ran out of gas several times and have been in harms way.

47 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/27/2015

Just like most people on here, my fuel gauge does not work. Ran out of gas and forced to push car out of harms way, which occurred during a left turn on green light. Because of this, I failed the colorado emissions test, leaving me to pay over $500 to get this fixed. I am also having issues with my visor falling down, car alarm going off at random times, and not all doors locking when using the electric key chain. I can not wait to get a new car and be done with Hyundai since they are determined to provide poor products and not issuing recalls.

48 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

Fuel gauge is freaking out. The gauge is flucuating erratically and the fuel range is impacted as well. A big concern when you have a wfie a children that are traveling in the car and you dont know your fuel situation. Please recall this item immediately.

49 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. After refueling the vehicle, the fuel gauge failed to register the correct level of fuel. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000.

50 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

My 2008 Santa Fe is experiencing an issue where the fuel gauge shows as empty with the light indicator on and corresponding miles to empty indicator reading to zero. This conveniently happened after my warranty expired. I see many similar complaints online. Hyundai is not offering to replace/repair. This is a $695 fix as the seats need to be removed to reach the sensors.

51 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/30/2014

We stopped to get gas on a road trip and after filling up the fuel gauge showed 1/2 full then empty and the fuel gauge would spin down and up instead of slowing decreasing with driving. How does a fuel gauge stop working on a 6 year old vehicle? there have been many complaints that this should be looked into for a possible recall. Dealer says it is $500 to replace sensor and it is dangerous to drive and not know when you could run out of gas. Very disappointing.

52 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

Fuel gauge level erratic. Check engine code indicates fuel level sensors. No recalls have been issued for this problem.

53 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Fuel gauge (fuel level sensor) is not working properly after warranty expires. Whether empty or full, fuel gauge is constantly fluctuated up and down. And range mileage keeps changing.

55 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

The fuel gauge no longer reads properly. The check engine light is on and the code is po464 which indicates a problem with the fuel sensor. Estimated cost to repair is over $800 from the Hyundai service department. Considering the number of failures of the fuel indicating system on Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles, why has there been no recall?.

56 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Air bag light came on and will not go off. Also, yesterday my check engine light came on and the fuel gauge stopped reading my fuel level. I have 90,100 miles on the vehicle today. Since I purchased the vehicle, my headlights are very dim. I am not sure if this was ever a concern for other models.

57 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

Fuel gauge stopped reading fuel level. Jumps anywhere from 230 miles of gas left to empty. At times I will start my car (knowing there's more than 1/2 of gas) and the gas light is on and stays on until it slowly creeps up.

58 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

I see I am not the only one with a fluctuating fuel gauge sensor. I have been having this problem for the past six months. The sensor is always going up and down causing the fuel light to come on as well as well as the ck engine light. The code always indicates it is the fuel gauge sensor that is failing. According to what I have read, this car has two sensors located under the back seats. The dealer said it would cost me around $700. 00 to get one repaired, but what's the use if they replace it with another Hyundai part that is defective as done to another complaintant on this site. This defect is obiviously a result of manufacturing so why does Hyundai delay in getting this issue resolved by doing a recall. This is also the result of Hyundai not taking due diligence in making sure they were installing a quality part. So why do we have to pay for their negligence?.

59 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

Fuel gauge began acting erratically and eventually 'check engine' light came on. Currently have to constantly monitor fuel status and carry a gas can with extra fuel. I feel this is a safety issue.

60 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The check engine light came on and the fuel gauge would fluctuate at times but when the light would go off the gauge would work properly. Then the light stayed on all the time and the fuel gauge would work off and on. Now neither one works at all and we have been trying to estimate how much gas we have, but that does not always work out. My husband is disabled and I have to travel a curvy country road at 430 am by myself and just recently I ran out of gas while going to work. My husband was unable to come and get me due to his disability so I sat on the side of the road from 430am to 630am waiting for someone to help me . This is the first Hyundai I've ever owned and I was very satisfied until this problem only to find out that many people have complained of the same problem and Hyundai has refused to fix the problem. Now there wasn't an accident or injury or even a fatality,by grace of god,but there very well could have been all those things it should not have to come to that. I hope you step up to the plate Hyundai and protect your good name while there is time to do so.

61 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

The fuel gauge sensor fails to monitor the correct fuel level which activates the "check engine" light. If another issue arises with the vehicle that would activate the "check engine" light, I would not know because the failed fuel gauge sensor keeps the light on constantly.

62 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

The check engine light came on as I was filling up my vehicle. Once I filled it, I could not get it to start. Took two to three tries to get the vehicle to turn over. I had the battery checked and my battery is good. My fuel gauge sits at empty for the first 100 miles after filling up with the low fuel indicator light on. I have had the car checked and was told it was told I had a problem with the fuel sensor. I had one replaced for $250 in 2014. Car worked fine. Then after 500 miles, the same thing happened. When is Hyundai going to realize that they have a serious issue with this vehicle! I can't even get a fair trade in value for the vehicle due to the problem.

63 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

Check engine light came on and took the car to the nearest dealership and the mechanic read the codes and said that it was the fuel sensor (fuel level sender). Since then, the fuel gauge continuously moves giving an inaccurate fuel level. I have researched this problem and found out that many others are having the same problem and the Hyundai company is not willing to do a recall on the parts affected. What does it take to get a company to recall a defective part?.

64 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

I'm experiencing a problem with the fuel sensor failing. The fuel gauge shows empty and then slowly rises to indicate I have fuel. Sometimes the fuel indicator light comes on after I've just filled up and stays on for a day or so. I called my dealer and they told me this is a common problem. They said at this time there's no recall out for this repair, but agreed that there should be. This can become a safety issue and could cause serious injuries to the driver as well as other vehicles on the road. I feel that Hyundai should step up and that care of this faulty part.

65 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

Fuel gauge stopped working. Showed empty at all times even when full. Had to always estimate how much gas was left in order not to run out. It was very inconvenient and I had to finally take it to Hyundai to have fixed to the tune of $550. I agree there should have been a recall for this problem as it seems there are many others having the same problem.

66 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated the fuel gauge failed to operate. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN number was not provided. The failure mileage was 100,700. Bm.

67 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

Fuel gauge is erratic, check engine light on, fails NJ emissions, dealer will not fix a known issue!!!!.

68 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

When driving our 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe the fuel gauge sporadically moves down to empty and fluctuates giving a false reading and causing major confusion. This is a safety issue and should be recalled. It seems to be a major issue among the 2008 model because when I contacted a mechanic he knew what exactly I was talking about.

69 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

The fuel gauge is not working properly. The fuel gauge goes from reading half then jumps to empty. Then the check engine light goes on then off again. I went to a Hyundai dealer a they did a diagnostics check on the vehicle and found the fuel level sensor a circuit working intermittent. Hyundai is well aware that this is a common problem, along with many mechanics in the new york tri-state area. I think this should be a recall replacement item, because this is a very dangerous problem. If someone runs out of fuel unknowingly when driving because the fuel gauge is not working properly they will loose power steering and power breaks and most likely loose control of the vehicle and the results can be fatal. The same results can occur if someone is driving in a remote area in the winter and they run out of fuel.

70 Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

Check engine light to comes on due to intermittent fuel gauge readings causing the car to fail NY state safety inspection. Fuel level sensors must be replaced which appears to be a common problem with Hyundai. Problem should be investigated for recall action.
