The act is consuming all the engine oil only after 500-700 miles. It has been recored and tested at town hyudnia dealership in danville, NJ after it failed 2 engine oil composition tests but the dealership did not replace the engine nor put in a. 37 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/15/2025

Was going down the highway at 65 when my vehicle completely lost the accelerating component. Almost got rear ended so I pulled off. Then made it to work when it happened again. The engine light came on and gave 2 codes. Finally got it towed to the dealership where they have decided it’s either a new timing chain or new engine due to mechanical loss. They discovered there was no oil in the car and they have also found metal shavings in my oil. Now they are telling me I need a whole new engine. I only have 124000 miles on this car. The car was driving perfectly fine the day before and had just been to the dealer and looked over 1,500 miles before and I was told everything was perfect working condition. I am out $4000 on a car I bought a year and a half ago in October 2023. Was told my warranty only lasted a year.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/06/2025

>>>>what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? according to the Hyundai bluelink app, the problem is caused by the battery management system, producing error code p0aa600. The result is that the vehicle does not get power to the wheels for a few seconds after giving it gas. It looks like the car is not moving, then it very slowly gains speed, followed by sudden acceleration. It is available for inspection upon request. >>>>how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? it is a safety issue because other vehicles on the road may not be able to stop in time when the car pauses unexpectedly. Also the driver cannot predict when the car will surge forward. Merging or crossing traffic is very dangerous. >>>>has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the vehicle has been to the dealership two times to be inspected for this problem. They state that they cannot duplicate the issue but of course they can see the error code in the vehicle history. It is an issue that occurs at random; not every time the car is driven. It has occurred a total of 9 times during the 2,872 miles we have driven since we purchased it. >>>>has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? only the dealer has inspected the vehicle. Police, insurance, or others have not been involved. >>>>were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? there is no warning that the error is going to occur. There is a warning when it is occurring, and the check engine light comes on. We purchased the car as new when it had 6,934 miles on it. It had been used as a demonstration car for the dealership. The error first occurred at about 7500 miles.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/05/2025

I purchased a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid in November of 2023. Within a couple of months of purchase I had 2 incidents where without warning the car lost power and made a noise sounding like some sort of fan. One of the incidents was on [xxx] in massachusetts, the heavy traffic cleared, I was in the fast lane, and the car would barely move. It was a safety issue as there was no place to go on the left side of the highway and traffic to my right had already picked up speed. After a minute or so the power again became available. This has happened to me several times but Hyundai has told me there is no record of this happening with my car model. On occasion I have my grandkids in the car and I am very concerned that Hyundai will not acknowledge this problem. By the way, it happened again this morning as I was pulling away from a starbucks drive-up window. Can something be done about this? Hyundai should have records of my complaints as I visited the dealership where I bought the care and conversed via email with one of their service representatives that I do have a record of. 41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/31/2025

The car has been consuming all the engine only after 700 miles. This has been a constant issue since December 2024 and the issue has been brought up with Hyundai dealership in denville, NJ and Hyundai corporate as well. Hyundai dealership in denville, NJ performed 2 oil consumption tests, which the vehicle failed both test only after 700 miles as it consumed all the engine oil. They refused to do further investigation or recall the engine as it should be covered under Hyundai txxi warranty given the Hyundai engine ii class action settlement a few years ago. The vehicle has broken down on me on the highway a few times and has put my family at risk and danger due to the negligence of the Hyundai dealership in denville, NJ and Hyundai corporate refuel to resolve the issue. Now the car does not start at all some days thus it has impacted my work and my ability to provide for my family.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/06/2025

Headed to my work ,outside temp 26 deg f, when on hiway entrance ramp, vehicle lost all acceleration. Vehicle is a hybrid, condition no warning lights on dash, vehicle was stuck in ev mode, which the ice engine would not start to help as normally would do. Hybrid battery began draining very quickly. There was a semi truck right behind me accelerating hard to get on highway . This time I managed to pull over on the debris filled shoulder before the system fully shut down as it has done before with the warning ?? hybrid system failure, pull over now ! and loud alarm going off. This is a serious loss of total motive power, which I've reported to Hyundai corporate, and dealerships for repair before, to which they say " we can't duplicate, all systems are fine", and blame me for the problem. Hyundai has washed their hands of this dangerous situation and won't help me. This is the 5th occasion of this problem, I now know from my experience and reading Hyundai forums this issue is wide spread among Hyundai tucson and Santa Fe hybrids, with some places replacing parts, that doesn't fix the issue. I know how to react by pulling over immediately, shut off the vehicle completely, wait. . . Then restart the vehicle, and so far ,it will drive normal with no codes or warnings after that, until the next random occasion it happens. This is extremely dangerous in cold weather and around other traffic posing a major collision hazard and stranding someone who knows less about this condition. Hundreds have reported this as per the forums, yet no recall or TSB or real fix has been issued by Hyundai.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/06/2025

1. Abs module stopped working. Car no longer has abs. Will not cover under warranty due to computer component. 2. Engine burns oil. 3 quarts in 1k miles. Combustion cleaning done. Now engine light is one, oil light comes on, car smells of gas & oil.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

Check engine code called issue for cam shaft position error. Replaced sensor, still failing. After reading online forums found that the smaller engine had oil consumption issues, I decided to check oil level, no low oil light, dip stick showed very low oil even though had been to service at Hyundai all correct service intervals. Filled oil to proper level numerous times over last year, monitor it every two weeks. Some times totally fine no oil loss and many other times it continues to have excessive oil consumption. Now randomly smell gas in cabin while driving. Reading online again and the issue is becoming more well documented by users but Hyundai has not yet acknowledged issue with this 3. 3l engine. Now the gas mileage head dropped significantly which gives further indication that the piston rings are allowing oil and gas to pass by. This can lead to cam shaft bearings to wear prematurely, other mechanical parts wearing or seizing, including the engine itself for a compete engine failure, a significant risk.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/24/2024

Our car had 2149 miles on it. Engine started to stalled on [xxx] on [xxx] from okc to tulsa. We made it to tulsa. The car was towed to tulsa Hyundai dealership on 12/25/2024. After diagnostic on 12/26/24, we were told the car had bad gas. The dealership performed the necessary work including replacing 4 fuel injectors in order to fix the problem. It cost $3991. 52 and it took a week. We were told since this was not a manufacturer problem that we are responsible for the repair. We paid for the repair. We always get our gas from costco. So we filed a report with costco stating that we got bad gas from them. Costco turned it into their adjuster at gallagher bassett. He investigated and told us that his findings indicated that costco did not have bad gas in the month of December according to their quality reports. No other cars filed complaints regarding gas issue. Our claim was denied. The question remained where the bad gas came from. Was it truly a bad gas problem or did the car have fuel injector issues and that bad gas was a cover up. We bought a new car, we purchase gas from a reputable company and we ended up with this problem that we were responsible for through no fault of our own. We are filing a report to see whether there are other cars of this model that had similar issues. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

First- it has been reported to dealer at least twice when car was in for other service. They said they could not reproduce. When speeding back up from a stop on near stop, especially in a right turn, the engine will not accelerate. After a second or two it finally takes off. During this time, I fear getting hit by another vehicle, either from behind or to the side. It is very scary and puts me and my passengers at great risk! there was no warning indication at all. The date mentioned was the most recent time, but the issue has been happening since the car was brand new. Again, no help from the dealer.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/23/2024

Upon acceleration from a stopped or rolling stop the vehicle hesitates to propel causing a dangerous situation when entering traffic. Dealer claims its not bad and that the manufacturer is only going to suggest fuel injector cleaner. Fuel injector clener was tried with no improvement. Upon research I have found this to be a common problem with this model. This is not the first problem we have had related to this system. Programming has been adjusted in the past to fix another problem which tells me this could be a computer problem.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/27/2024

I am afraid of getting myself or someone else killed because there is a 1-2 second lag after stepping on the gas pedal after coming to a stop. This is extremely dangerous. My street empties onto a county road with a blind curve. I have had several instances when the delay between the car moving after I’ve stepped on the gas has lead to oncoming cars needing to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. I even called the county and asked that they put up a “dangerous curve sign. They put up a squiggly arrow instead which has not helped. My previous gas vehicles made this turn safely for 20 years. My nephew told me it’s a new feature in cars called “stop and gol meant to save gas. I think saving my life is more important than saving a little bit of gas. It happens all the time so I will put todays date in the space below.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

Twice, the car refused to switch from ev mode back to gas mode. This resulted in the hybrid battery dying and the car losing power. The first time, I was merging onto the freeway and the gas pedal was all the way at the floor, but I was only maintaining speed (not accelerating). Both times, the car was driveable for approximately one mile on the hybrid battery alone. However, a warning came on the dash, “check hybrid system. Stop safely. ” the second time, I was able to pull into a parking lot before the hybrid battery died. The next day, I was able to drive the car normally. The dealership is unable to pull any codes or replicate the issue. Unfortunately, it only happens intermittently and we have not identified a common theme for the failure.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/11/2024

When I first start my car for the day, I get an error message, which says transmission error get transmission checked immediately. I’m unable to put my car into gear and when I try to go forward the transmission acts as if insufficient transmission fluid and does not accelerate properly and go into gear. I went to a Hyundai dealer in October 2024!to get the car serviced. The Hyundai dealer flushed the transmission system for a while I no longer got the transmission error message on the dash. A few weeks later I had the transmission error again and the car would not go into gear. I took the car in for a second time to be serviced by Hyundai dealer they said that they reset the software. About a week later I got the transmission error message again, along with the difficulty of engage in the transmission. The workaround I had for this was to turn the car off and turn it back on again and that would get rid of the transmission error message until the next day. I plan to take my car in to a Hyundai dealer this week and report to them that I’ve been having this transmission error message almost daily for the last week. This problem makes the car feel unreliable, and it is a potential safety risk to not be able to accelerate and change gear when operating the vehicle. The car also lurches foreard slightly after parking and turning off thr ignition.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/08/2024

Two issues with powertrain/transmission: 1- the powertrain/transmission fails intermittently- vehicle rpm goes sky high but vehicle receives no power, seems to fail/lose power. Has happened in very dangerous road conditions where unexpectedly was struggling to get the motor to engage/get power to the vehicle. Check engine and check hybrid system lights accompanies the problem. 2- the car should be driveable in electric only mode without use of gasoline. The powertrain/transmission seems to struggle to shift between electric and gas motors. Hyundai cannot seem to correctly diagnose or fix the issue. Does not seem they have proper diagnostic process included on the car- despite finding error messages stored in computer, they initially said they could not recreate the problem and therefore could not fix. 3 different trips to Hyundai dealership repair center, in total they have had my car for 10 weeks. They have replaced the transaxle and sent the car home, but that did not cure the issue. They now have my car again. It just does not seem they know how to identify or fix the issue. From online forums, I have learned many owners are experiencing the same problem and the same challenge to diagnose.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/24/2024

While driving on rural side road, two lanes, my check engine light (yellow, steady) came on. I pulled into a safe spot and did a quick survey, checked the owner manual, but could not identify any problem, and continued on my way. The check engine light was still on. About 15 minutes later the car would not accelerate past 25 mph (limp mode?). I was on a two-lane mountain road, speed limit 45 (but most cars were faster), visibility limited by terrain, trees, etc. Again, there was little traffic around me and I found a safe place to pull over. In neutral the engine revved normally. I turned the ignition off, checked oil level, (normal), turned the engine back on and started driving to find a safe place to pull over and summon help, but the car drove normally. I drove directly to my repair shop and had the codes pulled, (0436, 0021) which indicate a problem with timing. When a qualified tech examined it he recommended taking to the dealer. Unwilling to drive in traffic, I had it towed to the dealership. Their inspection revealed damage to cvvt components and the timing chain, and recommend an (expensive) engine rebuild.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/16/2024

Vehicle was being driven at highway speeds and suddenly lost the ability to accelerate with a "check hybrid system" warning. After pulling to the side of the interstate, car was shut off and restarted and brought back up to 40 / 50 mph when the same issue occurred with a lack of ability to accelerate and a "check hybrid system" warning. The issue appears to be related to some portion of the hybrid drivetrain. Car was then towed but two mechanics (one independent and one Hyundai dealership) could not replicate the issue and the vehicle system did not store any codes or history of the incident. The safety of the driver was put at risk by lacking the ability to accelerate on a major interstate, leaving the driver stranded for two hours waiting on a tow truck on the side of a busy interstate with traffic moving at speeds up to 75 mph.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/15/2024

Power loss with no warning or errors - hybrid system frequently fails to start gasoline engine when needed, resulting in sudden power loss and limited to 35 mph without warning. Serious concern at intersections and on major roads.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/30/2024

I parked my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe in a hospital parking garage on the morning of July 30, 2024. I was getting ready to leave after my doctor’s appointment. I slowly reversed my car and hit a pillar behind me. As I put the car into drive to come forward slowly, the car accelerated forward at a very fast speed. I took my foot off of the gas and kept pressing the brake pedal, but the car kept speeding forward on its own and I crashed headfirst into a concrete wall. The impact cracked the concrete barrier on the outside of the parking garage. The air bags deployed, causing fractures in my sternum and l1 vertebrae. This accident occurred near the elevators/stairs and cars were all around. If a person had been walking in my path to get to their car, he/she would have been severely hurt or killed. I was able to frantically steer the accelerating car into a handicap parking space and crash into the concrete wall, thus avoiding other cars. If that space was not available, my car could have crashed into another car with people inside. We were just told that the car is going to be totaled. If necessary, it could be inspected before that happens. I thought that I was going to die… the car was out of control. I do not want this to happen to others with this type of car…or put others in its path at risk.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/19/2024

When I start driving the car if I come up to a hill when I try to accelerate to move forward the cars engine cuts out almost like it stalls. I have to floor or pump the gas which makes a revving sound and the car will go.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/09/2024

The engine on our 2013 Santa Fe limited has seized. We have maintained this vehicle with regular oil changes, breaks, tires, and anything else our trusted mechanic has recommended. While driving, the car slowed down considerably and was not accelerating. No dashboard lights appeared. This was during evening rush hour and became very dangerous. I pulled over to the shoulder and called for help. Once the tow arrived, we started the car and the check engine light came on. I checked the oil, it looked good. Tow truck driver took it to the dealership. Dealership said the car had no oil and that the engine has seized. I saw that there was oil before the driver took the car. So, that's not possible. The dealership said they added oil and that we would need a new engine. After discussing with the dealership my very expensive option, I have been researching the recalls and problems others have been having with the exact same thing happening. If there was no oil, why wasn't the oil light coming on? why am I not due for an oil change for 1000+ mile? putting my family at risk in a well maintained car that should last 75k-100k more miles is a huge problem. I will continue to fight this until myself and others receive the proper care from Hyundai.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/05/2024

There is an extreme amount of hesitation/delay from when you depress the accelerator and when the vehicle accelerates. I have had multiple incidences (both from a complete stop and while already moving) where I depress the accelerator and there is a concerning amount of lag time before the vehicle initiates movement. This has almost led to multiple accidents. This defect happens in all drive modes. This issue appears to have gotten worse over the time we have owned the vehicle. We did not notice this issue earlier on. We bought the vehicle brand new in Dec. 23.

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

This car is burning excessive amounts of oil. I care for it diligently with regular oil changes and scheduled maintenance. Earlier this summer, capital tire and service confirmed that the engine light was on due to a knock sensor likely caused by low oil. At their advisement I ran a consumption test; 800 miles later the engine was nearly empty of with another engine light signal. This light went off after adding 5 quarts of oil. I am routinely adding extra oil, hoping the engine does not seize, and waiting to see if Hyundai will issue a recall. This vehicle is not safe to drive.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/02/2024

On Monday nite returning Tuesday morning I was coming home from work and I noticed my engine light is on and car is not running properly. 64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/01/2024

The vehicle started to stall/drive in limp mode. I took it to the Hyundai dealership, and they quoted me $5000 for repairs. The repair recommendations were as followed: ensure connecting rod bearings are within spec, recommending performing timing job w/replacement of intake camshaft, e-cvvt motor/gear, e-cvvt cover, and other components necessary for repairs. This engine burns/consumes oil and the engine code that shows up in p00100. All of this after I paid it off. Not within warranty anymore either. $22,000 down the drain it seems. . . Called Hyundai customer service to see if there was anything that could be done but they said there is nothing they can do and I have to fix it even though it is a manufacturing issue.

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/26/2024

Our 2024 Santa Fe while traveling 70mph on the freeway suddenly lost power and went into what Hyundai warranty described as "limp mode'. This happened 2x. The 1st time was June 26, 2024 and the 2nd time was June 29th 2024. Both times the high pressure fuel pump was diagnosed by 2 different Hyundai dealership service facilities. Both times were highly potentially serious risk situations- traveling at highway speeds in traffic when suddenly losing engine power, and having to navigate off freeway/highway with no acceleration, basically rolling/drifting off.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/24/2024

My 2014 Hyundai sonata is subject to the recall campaign for the 2. 0l and 2. 4l gasoline direct injection (gdi) engines. Since June 24, 2024, the vehicle has exhibited multiple issues: 1. Check engine light: the check engine light is continuously on and blinking, signaling that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. Diagnostic codes retrieved include p0140 (O2 circuit), p0172 (system too rich), and p0126 (knock sensor circuit). While the p0126 code pertains to the knock sensor, there has been no definitive diagnosis to determine if the issue is isolated to the sensor or indicative of a deeper engine problem. 2. Engine power issue: the car experiences jolts and kicks back during acceleration, along with intermittent lack of power. Furthermore, an independent mechanic performed some tests on the engine, determining that it runs too rich. After the second white smoke through exhaust incident, the vehicle struggles, and often does not reach, 60 mph; aligning with "reduced power and/or hesitation" (case #2) in the recall campaign. 3. Exhaust smoke: on two separate occasions, within a month, white smoke has been observed exiting the exhaust. Engine oil has been below 3/5 empty each time. No oil leak found; must be exiting through exhaust. Despite qualifying for the recall, the Hyundai colorado springs dealer has refused to inspect or replace the engine as required. These ongoing issues pose significant safety risks, including the potential for unexpected engine failure and loss of power while driving.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/22/2024

Several times lately of extended crank. Saturday evening, car had been parked for 4 hours, did remote start and had extended crank of about 2 seconds. Car ran for about 3 minutes before we left. We left home and hit main road, tried to accelerate and vehicle seemed to go into limp mode. Would keep cutting the fuel out if tried to accelerate even above 40 mph. No check engine light came on. Put in neutral, could not get above about 3500 rpm. Vehicle was in Smart mode where decides which mode to be in (normal, fuel economy or sport), when would try to accelerate it would try to change to sport as it knew power was not there. Was on a 6 lane highway and could not get up to speed. Finally was able to pull to side of road, shut engine off, waited a few seconds, restarted and issue went away, still no check engine light. I have contacted my local dealer, they said they have seen on another vehicle, was not sure of outcome, having service manager call me. Lots of complaints online forums of similar issues.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/11/2024

Engine has goes on out at 99000 miles has seized up .

69 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/03/2024

In June 2024, my vehicle suddenly lost power while I was driving on the freeway, almost causing a serious accident. I managed to restart the car after being stuck on the shoulder of the freeway for several minutes. The same issue occurred the following day, prompting me to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. Hyundai motor was contacted since the vehicle is still under warranty. The dealership informed me they would conduct an oil consumption test three times to diagnose the issue. However, they also stated that for the test to be successful, I needed to replace unrelated parts, including the brakes and transmission oil, among other items. Reluctantly, I agreed and spent $1,800 on these replacements. After completing the first oil consumption test, I returned for the second test. However, the dealership informed me that no further tests were necessary and returned the car to me without addressing the underlying issue. I emailed the case manager assigned by Hyundai to report this, but I never received a response. A few months later, the car failed to start. I contacted Hyundai again, and they dispatched a tow truck. The tow truck driver managed to start the car. A few days later, the issue recurred, and the roadside assistance tow driver suggested it might be the battery. Out of frustration, I paid $300 to replace the battery. Despite this, the car continued to make unusual noises at startup, a problem I had repeatedly mentioned to the dealership and in my communications with Hyundai. The situation reached a critical point today when my wife was driving the vehicle on the freeway with our five children inside. While traveling at 60 miles per hour, the car suddenly lost power again, putting their lives in danger. This is the third time this hazardous issue has occurred, and I fear for the safety of my family.

70 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

My 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport burns through 2qts of oil between oil changes (every 3000 miles). I check my oil once a week to make sure I have adequate oil to ensure my engine doesn't blow, Hyundai has open recalls on the 2017 models of my vehicle but my VIN number is not included. . . I have complained to Hyundai corporate and also the dealer and they state that I have to do an oil consumption test, at cost to me, to prove that their engine is defective. . . I first noticed this issue about 1 month after I purchased my vehicle, I was driving and my oil light flashed on for less than a second, I stopped at my sisters house and let my engine cool down and checked my oil and there was absolutely none. . . I refilled it and then began checking my oil weekly. I add at least 1/4-1/2 quart per week between oil changes. Every time I take my car in for an oil change they have to add an extra quart and make me aware that my vehicle is burning a significant amount of oil. . . This is my everyday car, I use it to get back and forth to work, I transport my children in this vehicle. There is a 953 recall and also 218 but my VIN is not included.
