1 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/11/2021

Was driving down the road about 40 mph, slowed down to about 10 to 15 mph to make a right hand turn when the right rear tire on my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe VIN: 5nms33ad5lh184231, exploded ripping several inch's into the sidewall. Had no knowledge of hitting anything any time prior to the tire exploding and nothing in the roadway to cause said damage at the sight of the explosion. Temperature at the time of the explosion was about 55 degrees, not to cold or to hot. Had only driven about 3 or 4 miles on the tire prior to explosion, so heat was most likely not part of the problem. Tires were made by hankook tires, dynapro hp2, size 235/65/r17 104h, dot 15m8r rt ho 2719, with about 29,000 miles on the tires, very little wear at all the tire, with air pressure maintained at all times to about 35 to 36 psi which was checked almost daily. Of all of my years of driving have had flat tires, but never have I had a tire just explode as in this instance with this tire. Feel like this should have been reported in case others may have experienced any similar issues with these tires. Hankook, dynapro hp2, 235/65r17 104h, dot 15m8r rt ho 2719.

2 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/04/2019

Michelin x radial lt2 p225/70r16 101t tires with dot numbers ap4v 003x 2614, ap4v 003x 2714, ap4v 003x 2614,and ap4v 003x 2114. All 4 tires installed 09/04/2014 @ 80,421 miles. 08/31/2019 odometer at 97,528 miles. 17,107 miles on 75,000 mile warranty tires. Tire dry rot and cracking first noticed in 2015 and has progressed to the point where a tire professional has stated that the tires are no longer safe to drive with on 08/31/2019. There is a need for a determination on what size of sidewall and tread cracking that will cause a safety risk and when a manufacturer should recall and replace for these defects. I have tires from the same manufacturer that are years older that have been exposed to the sun a lot more that do not have dry rot cracking on the sidewall or in the tread.

4 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

Kumho solus kl21 tires size 235/65 r17 showing sidewall cracking at 23,000 miles. I have properly maintained (rotated, inflated, balanced, alignment) the tires. All 4 are showing sidewall cracking. I have 2 other cars that have been exposed to the same conditions with tires that are at least 2 years older that are not showing sidewall cracking. Concerned about potential blow-out at high speed.

5 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

Events leading to failure are not known for sure. Supposedly I hit something in the road such as a pothole, that damaged both tires on the passenger side of the vehicle. My wife did indicate that we did hit a pothole in the parking lot, I do not remember this. In other words, there was no dramatic event that led to the failure of these new tires. The failure was front tire was scuffed on the sidewall and a leak was created where the sidewall and thread meet. The rear tire received a cut about 3/4 of an inch long perpendicular to the tire in the thread that is next to the sidewall. The correction is that I am buying a new set of tires from a different manufacturer.

6 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/12/2006

Catastrophic tire failure tire that failed was a bridgestone dueller p225/70 r16 that was an original equipment spare on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. The SUV was purchased new in March 2005, it has approximately 25,000 miles on the odometer. The spare was placed on the car on the passenger side rear in Dec. 2005 and has approx. 5000 miles on it. The failure occurred on I-95 in south carolina. It was daytime and visibility was excellent. No road hazards were observed at any time. The car had recently been serviced and all tires were fully inflated. The car showed no signs of poor or erratic handling prior to the incident. There was a loud sound with an immediate complete failure of the tire. The car was brought under control with some difficulty. This incident occurred at a speed of 70 mph. The tire was examined by garage personnel in SC and in tallahassee, FL. In both cases, no sign of road hazard damage could be found. Further, there was general agreement that the tire had apparently failed due to a sidewall flaw where it met the tread. I have retained the damaged tire for your examination. You should note that in 2004, bridgestone recalled a different size of this tire that was being used as a spare for a similar problem. I suspect that there is a larger problem that bridgestone is covering up due to firestone's well documented problems.
