Two problems related to transmission not engage have been reported for the 1999 Hyundai Sonata. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
- the contact has a 1999 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that on 03/22/2007 the reverse gear would not engage. She said that it would go forward just a little, but it will not engage in reverse. The contact had her vehicle towed to a transmission specialist because she was told that she needed a new transmission. The failure mileage was 40000 and the current mileage was 41000.
While backing up the vehicle's transmission did not engage then the vehicle suddenly snapped back. The dealer could not duplicate the problem.
