1. Hyundai Sonata 2006 sun visor did not stay in fully folded or extended position. 2. Tried to move sun visor to fully folded position and heard cracking sounds and sun visor just hangs loose (straight down) blocking road field of vision 3. I used shoe string to tie sun visor to safety handle above door to keep it from obstructing view of road. Unfortunately if visor is tied it is not free to move into fully extended position to shield sun while driving which is also a visibility hazard. I removed the visor and took apart broken hinge to find crack plastic bushing around rod which allows rotation of sun visor. Since the thin plastic bushing was cracked/broke into pieces the visor does not hold specified positions. An online forum shows numerous consumers with the same problem and they replace the sun visor for it to just break again. This part is no longer covered under my warranty, but I do not want to buy a new part(~$100) that is manufactured the same as the ones that break easily, just so I'll have to buy another replacement sun visor again. A thin plastic bushing around a metal rod that is loaded frequently is prone to stress fractures and failure. Numerous incidences of this defect should prompt a new design and free replacement parts for consumers since this is a driving visibility hazard.
2006 Hyundai Sonata and both sun visors have broken and will not stay int the upright position. According to what I have read online, this is a major problem with all Hyundai models.
Both of my car visors have broken off. The first was replaced by the dealer because the car was under warranty, but this time I would have to pay for it because the warranty expired. This has happened to other people I know that has the same car. It is a manufacturing defect that poses a risk on the drivers. The visor stays half way, which affects the visibility of the driver. To be able to see, you have to manually move the visor back and forth while driving, which causes the risk to get into an accident.
I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata and I have replaced the drivers side sun visor 2 times thus far. The first one was covered under warranty but the 2nd one wasn't. Now it has broke for the 3rd time and it seems like this is a safety concern since it will not stay up.
The driver's side sun visor all of a sudden just dropped down and impaired my vision. This is extremely dangerous and easily could have led to an accident. Hyundai needs to recall these defective visors immediately to avoid injury or death to those who will certainly be involved in accidents caused by this defective part.
Driver's side and passenger side sun visor will not stay in the up position. Keeps falling down while driving.
2006 Hyundai Sonata sun visor. I have had this replaced numerous times on my car. It will catastrophically fail while driving down the road. Last time was in traffic on the free way. Had to put car into ditch to avoid hitting another vehicle. 4,000 miles out of warranty and Hyundai wont replace.
2006 Sonata driver & passenger visors failure. We are now needing the 4th visor that won't stay up. Dealer won't cover it as vehicle is over the initial warranty period. Was told by the dealer when the 2nd ones broke, that Hyundai had corrected the manufacturing defect - don't think so. This is a safety issue as the visor is angled in an unsafe position when broken to the occupant.
The sun visors break and don't stay up close to the ceiling. They fall down and obstruct vision.
My driver's side sun visor broke and cannot stay up. I have to put it to the side, but it blocks side view dangerously. This is a common defect for Sonata 2006-2008. The technician at the dealership noticed the problem, but never mentioned to me during warranty. . Read more...
Driver visor will not stay up. Out of warranty, and is now not covered. Will have to pay for a new one. Blocks vision, either side or front. Very frustrating and a danger to others as well as the passengers in the vehicle. Could potentially cause an accident. Not fixable, only can replace at $100.
The driver's side sun visor on my vehicle broke and will not stay up. It hangs in front of the driver's vision now. I called the dealer and they said the part costs $101. However, it is available.
The driver side sun visor does not stay in the fixed position. Instead it hangs at a 45 degree angle obscuring the driver's view.
I have a 2006 Sonata and went to move the driver's side visor to block the sun today, heard a loud crack, and the plastic housing (that apparently holds the visor in place) around the metal bar cracked and broke. I was driving while this happened and now it just hangs there in the way- how dangerous! I tried gluing the broken piece back on, but it didn't help. Now I've got it velcroed up and can't use it! c'mon Hyundai - take some responsibility here and fix what is obviously a very common, and dangerous, problem!!.
I am the original owner of a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The driver side sun visor recently broke. My understanding from information I received from the dealer and reports that I have seen on the internet this is a wide spread problem. I believe the 2008 Sonata had a recall for the same issue. Hyundai should be forced to recall and correct the apparent defect with the sun visors. I have even heard of reports from people who have already had their visors replaced that the replacements have also broken. It makes for very unsafe driving conditions because when the visor hangs down, your vision is impaired. Even when you push it to the side, your vision is partially blocked. What other recourse do consumers have to ensure the manufacturers are selling merchantability goods. We as consumers have no way of inspecting the sun visor mechanisms to know if they are working or will work properly when a car is purchased.
The drivers side sun visor will not stay in place. Keeps falling down or will always be down in field of vision.
Both sun visors are broken. They do not remain in the upward position, but fall and block vision.
Driver side visor cracked & does not stay up, blocking vision.
Both driver & passenger sun visors do not stay in place. They fall down.

Under normal use, and nothing out of the ordinary, the sun visor on the 2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS v6 breaks and falls into the view of the driver, this has happened three times. A piece of plastic in the sun visor snaps and then the visor can no longer be used normally. Blocked vision, sun visor swaying on its own. This part out of warranty costs over 100 dollars at a dealership, however the sun visors in the 2006-2009 Sonatas break frequently and without cause.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the driver and passenger sun-visors were defective and would continuously fall downward while driving, blocking the contacts view of the roadway. The contact stated that when the sun-visor would fall, he would have to remove one hand from the steering wheel and hold it on the sun-visor to keep it from blocking his vision. The dealer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned with the possibility of the failure potentially causing a crash. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 195,000.
Sun visors broken. Will not stay up. This is a well known Hyundai safety issue.
The sun visors on both driver and passenger seats don't stay. They are floppy and it blocks the driver's sight. It's not under warranty any longer, so I used tapes to hold them. Please note that the sun visor on the driver's side was fixed once while I had a warranty and now it happened again on both sides seat.
Hyundai Sonata GLS driver side sun visor drops down and cannot be returned to position blocking drivers line of sight.
2006 v6 Hyundai Sonata driver side sun visor broken. Will not hold position.
My driver side visor broke twice before the warranty was up. Now the visor is broken again, but I'm out of warranty. The clip that holds it up cracked and I cannot get it to stay up or down. It just hangs in the middle. This is dangerous and annoying.
I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 6 cyl, made in the USA, and I am having a problem with my driver side sun visor, it started toward the end of my warranty, of 60,000 mi. , and I intended to take it to a dealer, but had to make several trips to columbus ohio and put mileage on in excess of the 60000 mil. I now have about 65000 mi. On the car. I took it back to a dealer and they said it was out of warranty and they would not fix it. I believe this is a serious safety issue, because I almost caused a serious accident going to columbus on my last trip when a car cut me off at an exit on I-75 and in the midst of trying to maintain control of my car, the sun visor dropped all the way down and I lost control and ran onto the soft shoulder of the exit ramp; had it not been for an alert driver behind me, I could have been killed. The problem with the sun visor is a design flaw in the spring design which holds the visor in position it fails and expresses it's failure in that going over a bump or stopping suddenly causes it to drop to its full down position interfering with driver visibility; and I don't think safety equipment should be warranteed only to the first period of warranty but for a reasonable life of the vehicle. I have found over 75 people on line who have the same problem with the same make and model of Hyundai. Please check out the internet complaints and you will see for yourself.
2006 Hyundai Sonata, 4 cylinder engine, 52,000 miles. Driver's side sun visor no longer maintains its tension, causing to fall down frequently and randomly blocking drivers view of road, as well as hitting driver it the head. Dangerous situation. Happens while vehicle is traveling on both smooth and rough pavement. As a result, visor can not be relied upon to provide intend safety benefits of block excessive sunlight to enable save operation of the vehicle.
Both the driver and passenger sun visors have fallen down and won't return to the correct position resulting in decreased visibility.

2006 Hyundai Sonata drivers side sun visor broke and impairs drivers vision and head movement.
Driver side visor came down unexpectedly while driving on highway and after hitting a bump on the road. Forward visibility immediately blocked. Visor would not go back to position; fumbled with it and held it until getting off highway and onto a surface road.
I own a 2006 Sonata I have approx 59,000 miles and the visor cracked and no longer stays upright. Because it kept falling and obstructing my view I had to remove it.
