Brake pedal went to the floor. Horrible grinding sound from all the wheels. Chiming. Hybrid system warning. Was driving and had to pull to the side of the street. Found out that the the hydraulic power unit is at fault and had to be replaced. My car is out of warranty and I had to pay over 2000 out of pocket. Complained to Hyundai costumer service and also to the bbb and they all told me to file a report with you. This is an ongoing issue with the Sonata hybrid since 2019. The information is found in Hyundai forum website. . Read more...
Was slowly pulling into restaurant parking space with slight pressure on brake the car just shot forward hitting wall of restaurant. Causeing damage to both car&wall seems as though it jumped gears been driving for years the most scarest thing to happen to me!!!.
The engine in this particular model is Hyundai's 2. 4l gdi (theta ii). The engine seized without warning even though it had the software update that detects engine wear and prevents engine failure while driving. Hyundai did well and replaced the engine under warranty and provided me a rental vehicle. 8,000 miles later with the same vehicle now the check engine light is flashing and acceleration is dramatically reduced. I was able to take some backroads with little traffic to a local Hyundai dealership and am waiting for diagnosis again. This started on a very busy local highway.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving at various speeds the steering wheel was sticking/catching. Additionally, was driving at low speeds the vehicle shifted roughly. The check engine warning indicator light was illuminated, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where informed the temperature sensor and wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to young Hyundai 3333 wall Ave, ogden, ut 84401801) 821-2737 where diagnosed the wiring harness and temperature control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 70,510. Ap.
The car is struggling to shift gears from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. So if I don't come to a complete stop the car stalls and slows down while in motion due to the struggle of changing gears.
Very similar to htsa id number: 10607383. Car refuses to accelerate reliably . In addition on braking the car will lurch forward for 1-2 seconds. No loss of brake pedal feel but could cause accident in close circumstances.
While driving on a highway 60 mph my vehicle began to stall and turn off. The vehicle mileage decrease and the car completely turned off I was unable to place hazards lights on or signals because the power on the vehicle had turned off. Upon pulling over the following day trying to start vehicle it began to smoke. It did not crank or make any noise just smoke coming up from the hood. This an result to safety recall NHTSA # 17v226000 or safety recall # 162. Which is wear within the engine. Engine failure may result in a vehicle stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Thankfully I did not crash but my vehicle stalled and completely shut off with no power to dash/radio etc which is a very dangerous occurrence.
I was driving my car home from work and all of a sudden my car jerked and the rpm guage went to zero and the air conditioner stopped and the loss of traction light came on upon killing the car and restarting it it drove fine with no problem. Took it to dealer to inspect and to check and fix recalls and was told that they changed the oil for the recall on my vehichle and they could not find anything wrong with car since it was not acting up at that time. Week later it done it again and took to dealership to check and was told it came with code for crankshaft sensor and 10 minutes later was told that was not the problem it was a faulty ecm and replaced it. A week later done the exact same thing and they could not find anything wrong after keeping it for a month. Took the car to another auto mechanic and was told they could not figure out what was wrong with car unless it was acting up. Now here I am driving a car that will act up occasionally and now it seems that it getting worse when I stopped and started up a hill it sounded like metal on metal clanging and have very suspicious feeling it has something to do with the gdi engine recall but cant get anyone to figure out what it is since it's so hard to drive a car acting up in city limits when it does not want to go unless you got the gas pedal to the floor. Unsure if it is recall or something else and dealership dont know how to fix.
My car has been having issues for the last 3 years and dealership replaced the water pump 2 years ago. Went back to the dealership for engine issues like hesitation and stalling several times and they said they can’t find an issue, they adjust the brake light switch one time as they said they had the code for it, but the car still has the hesitation and stalling issue which they wanted to charge me again for a diagnosis. I looked up online and there are actually recalls for the engine connecting rod and probably these recalls were cleared by the dealership from my previous visits but I can assure that the engine was not replaced nor the fuel system was not inspected at that time.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 45 mph, an abnormal noise was heard under the hood. The vehicle stalled and smoke appeared under the hood. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
A recall has been settled. We are entitled to engine repair or replacement. I have made 14 payments on a car sitting at a Hyundai dealership, in a recall that is officially settled, and it wont/doesn't run and they won't help at all. They replaced my dipstick. . . . Light came on. . . Replaced my oil fill cap. . . Repeat. . . . ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
I have been noticing a exhaust smell every time I start my car, it gets worse after I drive, then get out of the car. . . I can't stand on the passenger side of my car because the smell is so bad. Its a 2013 I get regular oil changes and check ups. . . Also, I have noticed when I put my car into gear there is a clunking sound.
I have taken my car in to the Hyundai dealer three times for service to and they have been unable to recreate the problem or diagnose the problem via a code. I had the transmission fluid replaced thinking that might originally be the problem. The car hesitates in lower gears when it is in ev mode and will rev at higher rpm before slamming into gear when it goes into gas engine mode. When coming off the highway and decelerating it will slam hard into gear as the car brakes and goes into ev mode. It is not consistent and every time the car is brought into the dealer they claim there is nothing worn with the car and they cannot duplicate the issue. When pulling out from a stop sign in ev mode there is absolutely no power some times and all of sudden the gas engine will kick in and accelerate. I have had other issues with the hybrid battery just shutting down on the highway so it concerns me that there is more of an issue that needs to be addressed.

Car has begun randomly and unpredictably "stalling" while in motion. Just simply stops moving forward for a few seconds , not responding to gas pedal . This has been both as car starts from stopped position as well as during cruising. Because most of our driving is city, we do not know if car will stall at highway speeds and we are afraid to drive on highways now. Hundai will not attempt any repair because they cannot document the problem. We feel it is either a bad computer or a transmission issue. No repairs have been attempted even though we have been into hundai several times.
When I start my car, put it in drive, and proceed, the car will jerl. As. Ifnits struggling to change gears. It usually stops after a minute or so. It doesnt always happen, but its occured twice today and the check engine light finally came on. Im up to date on my oil changes, have had my transmission fluids flushed and the problem still persists. It shows that there are no active recalls, however ive heard from numerous people that these cars are known for engine problems.
I was sold a car with a dangerous recall incomplete - Hyundai motor company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, through may 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from from the shift lever pin. If the transmission shift cable detaches, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver parks the vehicle, despite selecting the 'park' position, the transmission may not be in 'park. ' if the vehicle is not in the 'park' position and the parking brake is not applied, there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving various speeds, the contact heard a knocking noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to burns Hyundai (550 w rte 70, evesham township, NJ 08053) where it was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 17v226000 (engine) and NHTSA campaign number: 14v434000 (power train). Afterwards, while the vehicle was idling, the contact noted excessive vibration in the engine area and heard a knocking noise. The contact spoke with burns Hyundai and was informed that the vibration was normal; however, the manufacturer stated that the vibration was not normal. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,560.
Although my VIN was not identified in the Hyundai Sonata drive train recall, I am reporting what I believe is related to that recall. On weds. , Dec. 14, 2016, while taking my mother to a doctor's appointment, I stopped my vehicle by the building entrance to assist her. I placed the car in park and engaged the parking brake. As I was getting out of the driver's-side, the vehicle began to move. In an effort to reach the brake pedal, my right leg became trapped in the driver¿s door as the car rolled away. My car traveled about 50 feet before rolling into a parked car which closed the door on my upper leg across the femur. The vehicle continued to move forward, striking another parked car, which stopped the forward motion but kept my body trapped by the door. Only when someone climbed into the car and reversed it was my leg released. Apparently I was holding on to the door frame with my right hand/arm because my thumb and palm are also swollen and my forearm is bruised. I have to contact an orthopedic for a follow-up assessment. The emt¿s told me I was very lucky; usually when someone is in this situation, they end-up under the car.
Some 2013 Sonatas are under NHTSA recall 14v43400 for a vehicle that may roll while in park. (worn parking pawl?). My vehicle (70k miles) is not listed but my car will roll continuously on an incline with the transmission in park. Can I get my vehicle included in this recall??.
I was driving home from work on the highway, and approximately 40 minutes into the ride the car struggled to accelerate while I was driving on the highway at about 65-70mph without a warning light or any type of warning display on the dashboard. The car hesitated when I put my foot on the gas to pass another car, or if I slowed down in traffic, it struggled to accelerate above 20 - 40mph. When I reached my exit, and came to a stop light, the gas pedal was all the way to the floor just so I could get up enough speed to go across the light, as well as accelerate so the car in back on me could go as well. The engine would hesitate, and when it did finally reach the right speed it was still not a smooth ride. When I reached my destination, I turned the car off, and turned it back on about 2 hrs later. The car started (with a little hesitation in the engine), although it still struggled to accelerate past 20mph. It was also hesitating, and felt as though it would stall. I drove the car to my mechanic, about a 15 minute trip on local roads. There were a couple of uphill battles, where I could barely get the car up the hill. My mechanic checked to see if there were any codes from the computer, and the code came back as 'turbo under-boost'. The turbo charge is dead. I have a turbo charged engine. Therefore, since the turbo booster is dead, it basically leaves the engine without little power!.
Brake light stays on and steering column is very loose . Also it is in recall for powertrsin and air bags.
Engine suddenly without any prior indicators stopped working while driving 60 mph on hwy. Lost all power including power braking and steering.
1. When exit the stationary vehicle, beeps at me. Have to get back in, start engine and turn off again before can exit without the beeping. ??? happens frequently. 2. Steering - pulls to left. Requires constant steering correction. Does not need alignment. Very annoying when on long distant trips. . . Could be dangerous. 3. Driver's seat heats up automatically. Very uncomfortable in summer time. Has been checked out by dealer at least two times and they find nothing. Started having above problems at approximately 30k miles on brand new vehicle. Now have 43k.
Wonders extremely bad. I end up in other lanes. Cannot control car. While brake the car sometime turns or during accelation. At cruising speed wonders and constantly correcting. I almost hit car all the time. Steering is of center.
