general problems of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata - part 1

I had recall 162 - engine replacement completed in 2024 , now I have fuel leak at high pressure fuel pump, the pump that is a component of the engine has now failed which was installed during the engine replacement which can cause a major fire.

Fuel line under the hood was spewing gas after starting the vehicle. My safety was put at risk by being stranded in a dangerous part of town for 5 days before getting the car towed back home no inspections have been done by those companies no warning light where on.

After having work done to repair the head gasket and spark plug. I was on mile ~300 after repairs and was nearing to fill up at a gas station, I started losing power and notice the check engine light was on and gas smell filled the cabin. When I stopped the hood started smoking and there was a fire under the engine cover. My VIN is not listed on the fuel line recalls and I believe this is an oversite as it lists, faulty high pressure hose can rupture and cause engine fires and that is exactly what happen in my case. I believe this VIN was overlooked and I need the repairs complete. I have not completed any repairs because I believe this should have been recalled.

Engine light is blinking and put safety of my family in danger. I called the close huyndai dealer also I have a case number. However, it takes forever for them to answer. I only have this car. I am driver and this how I make living. I have no choice in driving this recall vehicle and kill my self and my family. No body care!.

Check engine light came on with a odb code of p0300. Engine started to run rough and mileage dropped substantially. Upon arrival to my home due to safety issues I turned off car and and let it cool. My father read the odb with a code reader and said it smells like gas but we will look at in the daylight. Today upon removing the engine cover and checking the spark plugs we discover stains and residual stains on the ignition coil packs and directly under the low pressure fuel line where it connects to the high pressure fuel pump. It seems the plastic clip/connector is leaking at anout the rate of one substantial drop per 3-5 minute period. This could cause an out of control engine fire. Dealer was contacted and while there are two recalls regarding other 2014 hyndai Sonatas for the same exact problem that this VIN was not covered by the recall and the repair cost would be 300 for the fuel line plus labor.

My gasoline delivery hose/line/pipe/fitting is leaking near the spark plugs as checked by a tire plus mechanic. The car is not safe to drive. Hyundai refused to fix my car under the campaign 22v312000 that addresses this specific issue. They would not even open the car to see the pipe leaking. I would like to know if my car can be added to the campaign 22v312000.

I was driving on the freeway when the check engine turned on and was blinking. I pulled off the roadway as flames began coming from the hood of the car. The car became completely engulfed in flames within minutes. It was a total loss in a matter of 15-20 minutes.

Nhtsa recall 22v312000 not implemented by jerry's Hyundai my vehicle has been at jerrys Hyundai since Feb 15th 2023 due to a failed engine. I verbally asked to have the recalls done once the engine was replaced and also asked if the recalls were complete before picking up the vehicle. I was told all the recalls would be done once the car was running and I was also told that the recalls have been done. I have scheduled the recall service twice now the first being the end of June 2024. The 2nd one being for July 1st 2024 and I am not getting any response to phone calls, emails etc.

There was the strong smell of gasoline so the vehicle was then parked outside of our garage. We had a scheduled appointment with our independent mechanic to have this looked at. Prior to the appointment, the check engine light came on and was also flashing. The car was performing very poorly at this time. When the gas pedal was applied to accelerate the car sputtered and severely hesitated. We pulled off of the highway to a city street and then a parking lot to call for a tow to our mechanic. Upon inspection he found that a fuel line was leaking. He looked up to see if there were any Hyundai technical service bulletins related to the issue. He found "fuel tube replacement (recall 227). Due to the recall we contacted the dealer piazza Hyundai of limerick (PA). The service representative (jason) looked at the recall and stated our vehicle was not a part of the production line being recalled. All items in the recall were found on our car. We had our independent mechanic fix the fuel line. Prior to the repair the car was not in a drivable state.

While driving the vehicle the lights on the dash start to flash, stating that there is a charging system warning. It says to pull over and not to drive. It becomes very difficult to brake, or steer, almost like the vehicle has lost power. It blew warm air and the check engine light also came on. This can be extremely dangerous if one was on the highway or at an intersection or any place where they needed to pull over to safety. My 12v battery was checked and found to be fine. I called multiple mechanics to come take a look at the vehicle and the codes that were read were p1b77, p1b96, p1b70, p0a0d. The 150 amp fuse was said to be blown, and was replaced. Sometimes the car will start back up, and sometimes it won't. Currently, it's sitting in my yard. The engine and interior look pristine, but there is something going on with these vehicles that isn't being addressed. This car is dangerous and there are many, many, many people that I'm finding on reddit, youtube, and the Hyundai forums who are having the exact same issues. I unfortunately cannot afford to continue to keep hiring mechanics, nor to have it towed to the dealership, only for them to do what they are doing with countless other people. They do not seem to understand the issue either and are grasping at straws to replace expensive parts, only to have the issue reoccur. Something needs to be done about this before someone is killed.

My car has been at the dealer since 5/3 which I had an appointment for the txxi engine failure and fuel pump 227 recalls. I was driving my lights all came on and the car decelerated and wouldn't speed up anymore the steering wheel also got tight. I just got oil change at the end of March and haven't been any long distances. I was told 2 days later that my car was being diagnosed it is now 5/10 and I'm still being told my car is being diagnosed with absolutely no update, they also refuse to give me a rental car or provide a out of house rental. . . They are making me pay out of pocket for rentals then can only post for reimbursement which isn't guaranteed after the work is done but cannot give me any type of word on even when the diagnostic will be done. I asked if they have any order to diagnosing like is it in order he said no I said so someone can bring their car in after mine and get completed before for same thing just depending on which the technician decides to do the advisor said yes candidly. I've been calling for updates and have not received anything other than the diagnosis is still not done after 7 days. I'm paying for a car that I don't have access to and it's not being expedited in order. When I dropped the car off they said it would take 4 days tops with are they starting my car then not finishing.

The car used up to 4 quarts of oil per week with just driving when necessary. It burned oil and blew it out under the hood.

Vehicle caught fire.

I was commuting home from work when suddenly there was smoke coming from under the hood and the vehicle completely stopped working in the middle of the road. It would not accelerate and I had to get help to move it into a parking lot. I had to get it towed to my home. The car will not start. If we turn the key to try to start it, the engine starts smoking.

After driving for about 45 minutes, car began to shake and make loud knocking noises, and the check engine and oil light both came on. After adding 3-4 quarts of oil in order to get to the destination, it seemed okay. After turning the car off, and back on, after about 15 minutes of driving the shaking, loud knocking noises and check engine light turned back on. At this point, the car was towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic noted that this was a problem with the engine and oil line and should be brought back to Hyundai because there is an active recall regarding this issue. Upon bringing the car to the Hyundai dealership, they agreed it was a recall issue and would fix it under the recall. Two days later we were informed from Hyundai that it would be $8,000 to replace the engine because the car is about 2,000 miles over the recall warranty and they will not make any exceptions. After calling Hyundai's corporate number, they agreed that it cannot be fixed under the recall warranty. They also confirmed that they never notified us regarding this recall. If we had known, we could have fixed this while it was under the mileage. The car is not drive-able and we are devastated by the lack of communication from Hyundai and refusal to fix this issue. There was no warning and while we are grateful nobody was hurt, this is extremely dangerous and we are now left without a car!!.

Unknown: for the past couple weeks, I have been see a lot of leaking from car on driver side. And I receive a notice for recall, but unable to schedule appointment to repair. I have been calling everyday but no one answered.

In the engine compartment, my car is currently leaking gasoline. It was not taped over or replaced when it was clearly damaged; due there not being a remedy, but there was still steps to do that would help the situation, and vandergriff Hyundai arlington, TX, did not do any of that. Car serviced for recalls June 11, 2022, started leaking 06/16/2022.

My engine is burning oil and the mechanics are telling me it is very unusual for this to happen, there is a recall on my type of car and engine.

This fuel pump recall 227 was issued on may 2022 and I've yet to be able to make an appointment to get it fixed. The Hyundai of san bruno I was finally able to reach said they'll call me back when the parts come in. That was almost a year ago and when you call their service department, you can't even leave a voicemail. On some occasions you can leave a voicemail, but it's never returned. This is a fuel pump hose, not a complicated part. They should have this part. This is unacceptable as this recall addresses a potential fire risk.

Car is leaking excessive oil all through the engine and other main components. Theta engines are faulty and leading to engine staling and then failure. My engine stalled once. Was throwing no dash lights or codes. Next time the car was cranked it started knocking, still not throwing any dash lights. Brought to Hyundai dealership. The manufacturer is refusing to fix the engine saying it was ran on to low on oil to often. I had my records of maintenance to prove other wise once I provided them Hyundai said no still then said no because they took pictures of the inside and it looks as if it was running low on oil. This engine seizing can result in fire and major safety hazards including death and Hyundai is taking no accountability.

We were driving and the engine just quit. We were able to safely get to the median. The minute the car was stopped we smelled something burning. We got the kids out of the car and to the other side of the road. We looked under the hood and could smell the burning but didn't see where it was coming from. Soon we were back on the side of the road waiting for our ride to pick us up. About 20 to 25 min later we saw smoke coming out of the hood. My husband called the fire dept and just as they arrived the whole thing lit on fire under the hood. The fire dept was able to put out the fire. Now we are waiting to have it appraised by our insurance company.

Hyundai has not started fixing the fuel line recall. I can not schedule an appointment to have it fixed yet. What happens if my car catches fire while I'm sitting at the elementary school dropping my 11 year old. . . . Why is that not a priority to fix?.

April 2,2022 I took my car in for an oil change. Immediately after leaving the car smoked as if it was on fire. I was pulled over by walls mississippi police department because they thought the car was on fire. I contacted Hyundai. They have not done anything to fix this situation. I have not been able to drive the car since then. It needed oil a week after the oil change April 2,2022. It smokes very bad. It has lost power. The engine knocks. I had to get a rental car at the rate of $1000 for a 3 week rental. My car note is $578. The car was repossessed today because Hyundai would not fix the car so I could go to work and pay my car note. I have numerous emails and receipts. No one helped me at Hyundai. They are making us pay our carnotes. Pay rental fees out of pocket. They only reimburse you for your rental once your car goes into the shop. All Hyundai dealerships have a 2 month wait time before they will let you bring the car in,otherwise it will sit on the lot for 2 months. I have tried 5 times since 2021 until now to get the recalls done. Hyundai mt. Mariah memphis kept the car a week and asked me to come get it because they did not have all the parts to complete the recalls. Hyundai olive branch mississippi stated they have a 2 to 3 month wait time as well. No one has loaner cars. I explained this to the claim person julia at Hyundai and no one did anything to fix this.

The car looses power the rpm want get above 2 and now it want crank.

Fuel delivery has intermittent pull when driving. This has been ongoing & had been mentioned from independent service center back in may. It occurs at different speed levels when gas pedal is pushed, a hesitancy occurs like a sputter.

My vehicles engine was replaced in October 2020 for a sudden engine stall. Now 5 months later a gas smell has come up very quick and strong. My initial search of my VIN number did not include my vehicle in a current open recall. As I searched further through the nhsta site for the complaint section and was promoted again to enter VIN number is when I can see my vehicle should be eligible due to my engine having to be recalled and replaced with faulty installation. Possibly causing my vehicle to have a fuel line leak due to a pinched or compromised installation from engine replacement. The first smell of gas came on this evening after a 100 mile drive vehicle was parked and now 6 hours later restarting vehicle the smell is overwhelming and definitely a danger and cause for concern. This 2014 model has had so many issues and should just be recalled and traded in.

The fuel feed line connecting the low pressure fuel pump to the direct injection fuel pump connector has develop a small crack over time due to ambient heat in the engine compartment. A damaged fuel line could allow fuel to leak increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. The only way I notice is because my state inspection did not pass to this reason and I am not sure when the fuel line connector started leaking this could have cause major fire if I would have not found out about it. I talked to Hyundai dealership and they have said they dont consider this recall or anything and just to get it fixed but they are telling me the whole line fuel will need to be replaced and its also backorder that it will take a month or maybe more to get part in and fixed. And because of this issue I dont have a car to drive anymore because safety concerns on driving vehicle.

2/6/2018-had recall inspection done at claremont Hyundai. All systems deemed ok. Apparently, the engine should have been replaced. I want Hyundai to replace my engine, and reimburse me for repairs. 2019-had 1 instance of engine cutting off while driving on a city street. 2020-had 2 instances of engine cutting off while driving; once on a city street, once on a freeway. Very dangerous! 2/5/21-engine cut off while driving on freeway. Engine light stays on continually. Paid $1,500 for repairs. (1 itemized receipt for full amount, 2 separate receipts for separate credit card payments). Engine light remains on, engine continues to cut off while driving. Mechanics can find no reason for problem. .

Took our car in for the fuel line recall in September 2020. Since October we have been smelling gas here and there. This past week it hasn't gone away. Fuel is now leaking from the fuel line that they zip tied back together. The dealership said they only inspected the line and everything was fine.

Low-pressure fuel im assuming that crack and begin the leak fuel. Heat generated in the engine compartment lead to the crack and allow fuel to leak and lead to my car blowing up flames.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. An unknown dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Tf.

Experienced slight hesitation upon normal go stop driving rural and city roads. Service for NHTSA campaign id number 20v121000 number:189 performed at obrien Hyundai, ft. Myers FL, 7 Aug 20. Tech showed me a blue strip which he claimed was used to detect presence of a gasoline leak when applied to suspected original gasoline tube, campaign number: 189. Tech then mentioned that result displayed no apparent leak at present time, but could not guarantee or rule out a future leak. Process is to be performed at service intervals as part of regular multipoint inspection to rule out existence of possible leak of original installed and never replaced campaign part to safe guard life of driver and passengers of potentially original defective fuel tube, 2014 Hyundai Sonata 2. 0t.

I had took the car to Dodge city KS to get the recall fixed for the engine and they said they changed the rods that where defective and as I was driving the engine started making a clicking noise and does not want to drive, shakes as I can tell nothing was fixed than I just got another recall for the fuel tube.

The contact had experience a failure. The contact stated while parking in drive way, discovered a spark coming from the front of the hood which caused fire in front of the hood. The contact stated the fire was extinguish by the fire department, and a fire department report was filed. The contact stated the vehicle would be towed to a salvage yard. As of yet the vehicle was not deemed a total loss. The contact called to local dealer cochran Buick GMC of monroeville (4520 william penn hwy monroeville, PA 15146 877-211-5526;412-245-4380)to informed the issue about the issue of failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware if the issue and case was filed. The contact had not experience a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
