Engine light appeared on my dashboard in late Feb 2024. At the same time, there was a noted fluid leak on my parking skirt so I immediately stopped driving it. On March 18th, 2024, I had car towed to mike's automative service station in south milwaukee, wisconsin. He remedied the engine issue with 'leak stop'. On March 22nd, 2024, I was traveling an interstate hwy 43 from milwaukee to oshkosh. Around half way, the engine light began flashing, the oil light was on and the car lost ability to accelerate. I engaged my hazard lights given I was in high traffic at that time and 'limped' car to the nearst gas station, to avoid beign stranded on the highway. It was towed to a nearby location, richfield service center-richfield WI. Both the tow truck driver and the service station rep, sean, advised this oil-leaking engine business was a widespread and well-known manufacturer defect for this vehicle's make/model/year. They performed a brief diagnostic review and advised the engine would need full replacement to continue driving. I reported this incident to Hyundai's customer service online portal this day, too and have requested they replace the engine, given the mileage has not even reached 77,000 miles. I found no active recall or warranty on this vehicle but can prove I am the second owner, having inherited it from the original purchaser, the late john j hoagland, in 2016/2017 (unsure exact date). The vehicle is available for inspection at this time. I felt traumatized by this event, praying not to be run over on the highway while the car moved at a snail's pace and feeling terribly unsafe in pushing the car to the closest gas station. I felt everyone around me was in danger of not seeing me in time to stop or avoid collision with me. No official inspection has been completed by manufacturer, police, insurance or anyone besides the mechanics at the richfield service center locatio in richfield wisconsin, on March 22nd, 2024. Engine oil is not leaking but my car keeps needing oil and the light that should be notifying me that car needs oil is not notifying me. I got oil changed January 11 checked car in a week I had no oil at all, checked today no oil again, what do I do, this is not cool at all I'm still making payments on this vehicle.
I got the oil changed on my 2016 Sonata. The mechanic that changed my oil told me the engine was low on oil when he changed the oil. A week later I checked the oil to make sure the oil level was good still. I had to add three quarts of oil to the vehicle. The next week my wife complained about a weird smell coming from the car. I checked the oil again and the engine oil was low again. I added three quarts of oil once again. The Sonata is driven in the city with alot of stop and go traffic. Not one time did the check engine light come on to warn us of low oil. Additionally, we never observed any oil spots in the driveway from leaking oil. Now we continue to smell the weird odor and I have to add oil to the car every week. No visual oil leak is seen and the driveway does not show signs of a leak.
At about 75,000 miles my 2016 Sonata limited 2. 4l started needing oil added between regular oil changes (all mileage and maintenance by one driver). The vehicle is now 85,000 miles and I am adding 2 qts. There are no leaks from the engine so it must be burning through the exhaust, which can't be good for the emissions system and any future smog check - or the environment. The dashboard warning lights do not come on when the oil is low. This could result in catastrophic engine failure. The vehicle also experiences engine knocking and hesitating when accelerating from 30mph. This has been a safety issue when merging onto the highway, which is almost all of my driving.
I got my car in 2017 and it's 2016 Hyundai Sonata. The month of August 2019 after an oil change my car begin leaking oil as well as shooting out oil from the oil reservoir. Took it to pride Hyundai in batesville ms, they said they couldn't find any oil shooting out from the oil reservoir when I know it was. All they did was diagnose for free of charge, and tell me I needed a oil change did by them. I took it for the recall that was on it ecm and they did, but they said it wasn't another recall on it and it is still leaking oil and shooting it out from the reservoir under the hood. Some need to be did about this cause it can cause the engine to fail and I'm still paying on this car and only had it going on two years next month.
