1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2020

The oil plug fell out and seized the engine. I bought the car and drove it lightly for 2 days through city streets and highways. Right before the engine seized. The check hybrid systems light came on, followed by the oil light, then the check engine light (within the span of around 45 seconds). After the lights the car became unresponsive to the gas pedal and slowed to a halt. After getting it towed to a Hyundai dealership the next day, they called and said that te oil plug is missing and it caused the whole engine to seize and need a complete replacement. After researching I've found many owners of 2017 Hyundai sonota hybrids to have had similar issues with the plug falling out. I believe it should be looked into getting recalled.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle began to shudder with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road, turn the vehicle off, get out the vehicle, and check as an abnormal odor appeared. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however while the vehicle was being towed, the tow driver informed the contact that evidence of flames were present under the hood. The vehicle was towed to the dealer sansone automall (90-100 route 1 n, avenel, NJ 07001 (866) 328-3333) where it was diagnosed and determine that the rod bearings needed to be replaced. The engine was repaired however the failure recurred as the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a second diagnosed test which determined the engine coolant cylinder failed. The contact mentioned NHTSA campaign number: 20v746000 (engine) as a possible solution to the failure however the VIN and year of the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however did not compromise a solution to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
