6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/08/2017

1. Cruise control is jerky and rough on acceleration and deceleration 2. Main issue I have with this car is that the fuel gauge is incredibly inaccurate. If it reads at 1/8 tank, I can only put in 12-13 gallons. Each "tick" mark on the gauge value ranges from about 9 miles to 63 miles despite the fact that it regularly gets 32+ mpg combined city/highway. When I complained to the dealership (I bought it used) they replaced the vaccuum cylinder, which helped with filling the tank (it would previously just shut off mysteriously during fill-ups) but then the gas gauge measured even worse. The "range" as calculated by the car's computer is always very low and drops off precipitously even though I know (by the trip meter) that I haven't gone far enough to have used as much gas as it would appear. Despite the obvious flaws of the gauge, the codes still read that it is working "normally" and to have it covered by the warranty, I have to experience a complete failure of the fuel sending units, I. E. Catastrophic break down. I would like to have them replaced before it gets to that point.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2010 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/19/2017

The gas pump nozzle always switches off when I try to get gasoline, making it impossible sometimes to get the number of gallons I need, requiring a guess when the tank will be full because the trigger won't stay in place. Our 2010 Hyundai Sonata was purchased in 2012 and has had this problem since day one, and I see it is a common complaint on the internet among Sonata owners. We brought it into the Hyundai dealership in two different states: neither was able to locate the problem! this is unacceptable. At one point, we could not put any gas in and had to drive it immediately to the dealership. They replaced a carbine cylinder in the gas tank that cost $700. Just so we can put gas in the car, an requirement of its function. There was one pump at a gas station halfway across town that I found to work flawlessly. So I would drive there weekly on the outskirts of town. Twice, I was approached by strange men looking for money or a ride to the casino. Then on this last time it took 15 or so small pumps to raise the needle just a third of a tank. It is a safety issue as an overfull tank could spill toxic petrol on us while we are pumping gas, or leave us with too little gas and no way for the pump to work, and get stranded in a bad part of town or a highways. The check engine light has been going on and off for months, sometimes seeming to be related to the gas cap. Yet the dealerships can't help us and there is nowhere to buy gas that isn't a frustrating ordeal. Unacceptable. . Read more...

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/28/2016

When I was driving 70 mph with two bars left on the gas gauge (dashboard said distance to empty: 80 miles) , the car suddenly lost power and engine was turned off. When I try to start the car, I noticed that it was out of gas. I put a gallon of tank and it worked. Hoping that it was just one time problem, I was driving it carefully filling gas when it had three bars left on the gauge. A week later, while driving 25 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning when there were 4 bars (130miles to empty on the dash). Took it to the dealership and they told me be replace the fuel pump for $1,000 which I declined at the moment. I had 63,000 miles on the car and found out that many Sonata 2011 are having the similar problem.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/12/2014

I filled up my car on Thursday after filling it up the first time I started the car the gauge read full, later on while drive the fuel gauge said 3/4 full even though I had driven a few miles. The next day after taking my kids to school I stopped to run an errand. I get back in my car to start it up and the gas light is on and the fuel gauge says empty. After driving a few miles the gas gauges went up to 1/4 then eventually 1/2 tank. The gauge had been showing 3/4 full a few times in the past few weeks after filling up but this is the first time it's shown as empty.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2004 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

After filling the gas tank full, found fuel leaking from the tank onto the ground. Removed the tank from the car and found 13 rust holes on the top and side of the fuel tank. Holes were found beneath areas of sealant that had separated from the tank surface.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/12/2013

Like many other complainants, for the past month, I have experienced problems filling up my gas tank. After only 1 gallon or less, the pump automatically shuts off as if the tank is full. It has taken me approximately 10 minutes just to put 1/4 tank of gas in my vehicle. When this first happened, gas overflowed and spilled on my shoes, my car, and the ground. Thinking there was a problem with the gas pump, I went to a different gas station and had the same problem. In viewing forums throughout the internet, this appears to be a problem that's been ongoing for several years now for this car model. It is a safety hazard due to the potential for gas to overflow onto a person and the outside of the vehicle, which could lead to a fire under certain circumstances.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/15/2011

I was informed this model has a safety valve in the gas filler neck that will prevent the gas from leaking out should the vehicle overturn. My valve must be stuck in the paritally open position since I can only fill the gas tank every one-third of a gallon before the gas dispenser shuts off. Then I have to wait 10 seconds for it to seep into the tank before I can continue to pump. Filling my 17 gal tank takes about 10-12 minutes with most of the time just waiting for the gas to seep into the tank. Hyundai wants over $600 to repair. Unacceptable since it appears to be a design flaw.

We had gotten the recall letter for something other than the gas tank on the vehicle we were told it had a crack in it at the time we took it for the first recall letter for this vehicle,we can only fill the fuel tank to 3/4 hash mark and below that piont in order not to leak.
