39 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/05/2022

Our 2012 Hyundai Sonata limited had some kind of seat belt recall done in 2017. Not sure what as we were not given any documentation. We are having problems engaging the driver's seat belt that started in the last month of 2022. Hyundai keeps referring us to the local dealer to see if indeed it is part of that recall. The local dealer insists on charging $160. 00 inspection fee, if it's covered Hyundai will be charged. A knowledgeable mechanic should be able to sit in the driver's seat and attempt to buckle the belt and know if it is covered, without charging $160. 00. Pease help.

40 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/20/2022

My vehicle should be covered under a recall for my engine, however Hyundai is denying the claim due to my title being branded as salvage, however according to my research a salvage title does not affect the recall. I believe my engine should be replaced, and Hyundai is refusing to return my calls at this point.

41 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/15/2022

The first is the drivers side headlight not properly projecting light. The light projected a shadow across the center of the light preventing proper illumination in front of my vehicle. This is causing a safety issue. Brought car to dealer who confirmed that the left headlight was deformed preventing proper projection of the light. This deformity was not covered nor are there any recalls even though numerous people reported the same issue. Am working on privately replacing them both. The second was the return tensioner not properly retracting the seatbelt back in. This was not covered by the dealer but it’sa safety issue where the system may fail.

43 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/18/2022

I know for a fact that one of the recalls I was told by green Hyundai they could not do because they did not have a solution for the recall I know in 2019 I had the recall for my seatbelt done and it still comes on buckled I also know because I have one with blue drive that if you hold the battery for the electric out without turning off blue drive it affects it I did not do this but somebody breaking into my car dead and I’m not sure all of the effects it had but I have had motor problems because the same dealer who told me they had no resolution for yoru fact that there is no recalls that were undone even though are not done even though I was told that one they had no solution for and couldn’t do so I know at least one has not been done, also forgot to connect the coolant line resulting in motor damage. .

44 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/18/2022

Driver’s side seat belt frequently unlatches on own while driving vehicle. This places the driver at risk for significant harm should this occur during a collision. This problem has not been inspected or confirmed by the manufacturer or other professionals. The only warning lamp possibly associated with this is the airbag warning lamp.

45 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/22/2022

The passenger side seat belt locks up. It can lock up immediately when putting it on or it can lock up if I just lean a little bit forward. It will get tighter and tighter to the point where it is very uncomfortable. I have to unhook the seatbelt and re hook. Sometimes this takes many attempts. This is scary when you are going down the highway at 65mph. The dealership has replaced it twice. They were able to see the problem because my husband drove straight to the dealership once when it locked up on me. The last time they replaced it, no one was in the passenger side until we were leaving for vacation. We didn't even get out of the garage when it locked up again. The dealership was reluctant to replace it. They said all seat belts lock up! because of covid my husband and I haven't driven much. Once we started going out again we became aware of the problem.

56 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

Red “airbag” light on dash illuminated while driving. Code read as b1706: passenger buckle pretensioner. May have been covered under Hyundai’s 15yr/250k warranty but owners never notified since not official recall. Although, this defect may not affect airbags themselves it causes “airbag” light to remain illuminated until addressed. Driving with the “airbag” light continuously illuminated may pose risk to unsafe conditions due to unknown new airbag codes since “airbag” light already illuminated with buckle pretensioner code b1706.

60 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/05/2021

Drivers side seat belt does not retract properly. If I pull it out a little too far when buckling then it will just hang there instead of retracting snugly so it provides the same amount of safety as having no seat belt on at all. Every time that I took my car to the dealer for different fixes I always brought that up and they always overlooked it and never did fix it and now my extended warranty is out and it's still not fixed even though it was like that the day that I bought it and I started complaining about it that very first week.

61 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/30/2021

"air bag" light stays on. Passenger side seatbelt light blinks on and off. Likely a sensor issue, but seems to be a recurring problem with 2008 Sonatas.

62 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

2018 Hyundai Sonata was in motion, with a speed of approximately 20 miles per hour, when a vehicle in front of the Hyundai Sonata stopped suddenly and the 2018 Hyundai Sonata rear ended the other vehicle. The 2018 Hyundai Sonata's airbags did not deploy. Days prior to the motor vehicle accident, the the owner discovered the driver's side seatbelt would not retract to create tension after initial application to secure seatbelt however, tension of the seatbelt was identified with application of the brakes, while leaning forward, and while 2018 Hyundai Sonata was in motion. Concern is the fact the airbag did not deploy appropriately during a front end collision while in motion at approximately 20 miles per hour; possibly related to NHTSA action number ea19001, April 19, 2019, regarding the air bag acu electrical overstress that is currently open and under investigation. See pictures attached.

A police report was filed. The contact stated she was able to drive the vehicle to her residence, where she noticed she had sustained injuries on her legs and her right leg was swollen. The contact sought medical attention. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the driver’s side seat belt was replaced however, the seat belt was still not latching securely. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact to drive the vehicle up to a certain speed and step on the brake pedal to see if the seat belt would operate as needed. The contact did so, and the seat belt operated as needed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to mail photos of the vehicle and other documents. The contact provided the needed documentation as requested. The approximate failure mileage was 10,500.

64 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/02/2021

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving, the seat belt failed to latch properly. The contact's daughter forced the seat belt into the latch to securely latch the seat belt. Additionally, the contact stated while refueling the vehicle, the fuel gauge indicated that there was no fuel in the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to apple valley Hyundai (2934 valley Ave, winchester, va 22601, (855) 463-5530) to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 17v617000 (seat belts) as a possible solution to the failure however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

67 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/03/2020

Drivers side seatbelt pops lose. It was supposed to be replaced under recall169. It happens when I'm driving. My break lights burn out a lot faster than usual ( 2 weeks). The back passenger side light burned the plastic unit where the light bulb is inserted. There is a crack in my steering wheel cup which seems to be a common problem with this vehicle and I think it should be a recall on that as well.

68 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

The air bag sensor in my car is defective. This was already a recall by Hyundai, but for reasons I don't understand does not include my car and I believe it should have. It is the right make, model, and year the original recall included. Apparently the seatbelt tension adjuster is also involved in my case.

69 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

My mechanic advised me of airbag code b1448 and advised me he rad my VIN to check any open recalls. He stated my VIN is not in airbag recall related to this code but that there were aibag OCS codes on that model year which came up b1448 that were covered. I cobtacted Hyundai north America and went over with them a series of questions relating to the vehicle. Hyundai advised me that I may be covered by vehicle passenger OCS recall. Dealership refused to diagnose without a charge. Also tried to instead sell a battery despite being new one. Contscted Hyundai north America again and referred me out but stated while this is recall it doesnt apply to VIN. I am not going to deal with intermediary however, I chose to deal with you directly to resolve what personal mechanic is telling me is an absolute model year code recall thst just happened not to include my VIN.

70 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/02/2020
