Hyundai Sonata owners have reported 96 problems related to seats (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Sonata based on all problems reported for the Sonata.
Had airbag light stay on and got seatbelt buckle replaced under recall. Now one month later airbag light is on and I'm told it is bad sensors inside the seat. These cars have poor engineering. We can't even rely on airbags, since they won't work when the light is on for bad sensors.

Vehicle was taken to Hyundai because the airbag light was illuminated, and the passenger seat belt reminder light would blink when no one was in the seat. After a diagnostic test, the dealership advised this was due to a faulty airbag sensor in the passenger seat, that was part of the actual seat. The replacement seat cushion was going to cost upwards of $1200, with the installed price of over $1500! after looking at the NHTSA complaints, I saw I am not the only one who has had this problem. A quick google search also showed a plethora of other complaints in regards to this issue. There is obviously a major issue with the sensors/airbag/seat belt system in these vehicles, and I am hoping a recall will be issued. Hyundai could not tell me if this issue would affect my airbag system or not. Thank you.
All functions for the seat maneuvering work, except the decline forward function. The vehicle was stationary and running.

Takata recall my car dashboard indicates the airbag is on countinously and the passenger seat belt light is flashing even there is no one on the seat. I went to Hyundai dealer and they check the problem and the error code is b1447 but, they tell me this error is not recall for my car and they are ready to fix it but with buying about $1500 for just the part which is OCS sensor in the passenger seat plus the labor work I need your help for this issue, it is related to my family safety, please.
The seat panel under the driver side has broken and separated from the bottom of the seat due to a small plastic piece braking that hold the panel on. Now when I get out of the car, the controls for the seat operation push down on the bottom of the door frame and the seat begins to rise up. This is not a problem other than when getting back into the car, I have partially torn my mcl in my right knee due to the seat being higher than expected and caused my right leg to hit the steering wheel as I entered the car, and forced it back out towards the opened driver side door. This was done in April of 2018. Hyundai offered me a cash settlement, but they did not guarantee me that part would continue to be repaired - it had already been repaired on multiple occasions.
Airbag light illuminated, dealership says sensor needs replacing which requires replacement of front passenger seat track assembly. Sensor is part of assembly and can't be replaced separately. Cost with tax will be $975. Another code came up along with this one. One on steering column was covered by Hyundai so can't understand why this one shouldn't be as well. Seems asinine to have sensor integrated into seat track and not replaceable on its own.

This car is exhibiting the same behavior as other Sonata models from 2006 that have been recalled for the occupant classification system (OCS) in the right front seat. Thus with this issue, no air bag deployment could occur causing serious injury or death. I'm not sure why this particular VIN is not covered under a recall that spans all Hyundai Sonatas from 2006-2008. This has been brought to a dealership and was verified as the problem this car is exhibiting and this should be part of this recall. This is a major safety recall that should be covered and I would like more information as to why this would not be part of this recall, when the car is classified under the parameters of the recall and is exhibiting the signs of the problem the recall covers. This occurs whenever you turn on the vehicle and the sensor in the passenger seat malfunctions. Luckily, there has been no accident and thus no opportunity for the airbag to fail to deploy, but if it occurs, it will definitely lead to a hefty lawsuit.

While in motion on the highway noticed driver seat had slight wobble, pulled over and discovered the front left bolt (flanged, inscribed with 10) attaching the seat cushion frame assembly to the track rails had completely detached.
Poor mpg only getting 17 mpg on the car when I should be getting 25 to 27 was getting 14 till I got the new up dat in August go 2017 , car has now 10,000 miles on it will be 2 year old at the end of November , deal say there nothing wrong been in 3 times , told me unless cooperate comes up with fix live with it ,an there been a vibration in the steering wheel an drive seat since we owned the car all in told is that characteristic of the car , not to bother to bring bring back any more.
The paint is chipping away in the exterior by the door handles and the steering wheel. Also the driver seat material is starting to fall apart as well as the door trim on the driver's side.

For the second time within two years the drivers seat control panel frame once again came loose exposing the electrical wires. This makes it difficult to set the seat properly for driving. It makes the vehicle unsafe to drive if the seat is not properly set.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the driver's seat back panel fractured and the wires to the seat were exposed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (mccafferty Hyundai 1106 e. Lincoln hwy, langhorne, PA,19047) where it was diagnosed that the back cover failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 21,600. The VIN was not available.
While the car was parked in the driveway of my home, I turned the vehicle on and the airbags lights came on the dash. I drove it work and hoping the airbag lights will turn off and it did not. I took the problem to the Hyundai dealership for evaluation. A little history, my airbag lights came on back in 2012, case #10352554, the vehicle had a recall for it. The dealership sent the front right passenger seat to California for repairs. The problem was fixed. Now jump forward 2017, my airbags light came on again and the dealership advised me the problem is not related to the recall back in 2012. The dealership advised me the problem now had to do with the front passenger seat pressure sensor (cushion) for the airbags. According to the dealership they would have to replace the whole front passenger seat to fix the problem in order for my front passenger seat airbag to deploy properly during an accident. I feel that this is a defect with this Hyundai vehicle and a secondary problem related to the airbag recall. I feel the problem should be investigated further to prevent any injury or death.

I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While merging into the traffic. It was recently involved in a front end collision. The crash was so bad that it affected the radiator and even broke the coolant reservoir. The main frame of the car is also damaged. Even after this level of serious crash, the airbags still didn't inflate. No airbag was deployed. I suffered some injuries. This brings me to question the safety of this car. My model was premium sports package with 3. 3 v6 engine.
Code b1448, testing revealed that the passenger seat sensor was not communicating. "airbag" light is on, passenger seatbelt light flashing when no passenger is in it.
I've had consistent problems with my engine. Problems range from the check engine light coming on several times over the past 2 years, twice since 2017 started, 2). I've complained to the dealer about the abnormal amount of engine oil the car uses in less than 20,00 miles. 3). Engine will not start, even when there is no alternator or battery problem. 4). Car doors lock with key fob inside. 5) shaky steering wheel, that I've complained about since I owned the car. 4) seats are suppose to be leather, "leather" is cracking in the front around the base of the seat. (dealers says it's normal wear and tear. I've had leather seats before and none of them cracked).
Passenger sensor right front, sensor found it faulty, this sensor is under the fabric of seat. Light is all ways on.

Airbag light illuminated. Dealership claims that passenger seat track assembly needs to be replaced for upwards of $900. Car is out of warranty, but this is critical part of safety systems. Hyundai does not stand behind these safety systems.
Im just writing because im getting alot of alerts from you guys and I dont live at the same address when I purchased my car. So im not getting my recall letters or notices. So what im woundering is what do I have to do to make sure my car is not being effective by theses recalls. Thank you and have a nice day.
Took the car into the shop for an airbag light. They said that it was a bad oc mat sensor. I was quoted $1000+ for parts and labor. I asked why this wasn't covered under the recall because my car was in the range 06-07, they said my VIN did not indicate an active recall. I called corporate and they also said I was sol. This is something that needs to be fully recalled, far too many of them are failing and Hyundai refuses to do anything about them.
The plastic cover where the driver's side seat controls are located breaks and comes loose. This could be a hazard and move the seat while driving. I've had it replaced twice and going in for a third time.
My airbag light is illuminated and seat belt light blinks on the passenger side. It seems to be a known problem with the Hyundai Sonata. Dealer needs to recall the passenger seat/faulty sensor for the safety of the passengers.
Air bag light will not go off, dealership said it was the passenger seat belt receiver, which I replaced with a new part, airbag light is still on and now I am told it is the passenger seat pressure sensor. I saw there have been recalls but was told my car was not included. I am unable to inspect the car in the state of maine now.
For a long time the passenger seat sensor has stopped working and this deactivated the airbag, there was a recall for this problem, I went to the dealer but they say that my VIN number is not included in the recall and I have to pay $ 1600, to repair it. Im stiil using my car I need to work.
Airbag light came on at 66800 miles. Took car to Hyundai dealership being told driver seat needs replaced because sensor went bad!!!! says it will be like 800 dollars to get a new seat. So airbags won't work unless I buy a new seat. There should be a safety recall done on these 2011 Hyundai Sonata limited with this problem!!!! I have read that lots of people who own these cars have the same problem!!!!.
Air bag light came on at 66700 miles. Took to local Hyundai dealer for maintenance and to check air bag light and was told passenger seat bottom and track needed replaced. Would cost approximately 850 dollars. This is a manufacture defect and I have kids and can't even trust driving this car due to safety issue with the airbags likely not deploying!!!!! this needs recalled!!!! I need to be able to trust my cars safety. Especially with my 3 kids. Recall this ASAP please. . . . . . . I have read this is a problem with most 2011 Hyundai Sonatas from people's complaints all over the internet. Obviously a defect and a huge safety issue!!!!!.
I have a 1 year old (30000 miles) Hyundai Sonata sport 2015. The driver seat adjuster nut(left hand side) came off all of a sudden. The nut fell off the assembly. It had (10) written over it. It was not comfortable driving with this. It led me experience bump on a clear freeway.
Rear passenger seat gets very hot when driving even with air conditioner on in summer. Sometimes gets hot enough to feel like it could start some kind of fire inside seat area. Even in winter this problem persists.
I was admitted into the hospital, where I had surgery and was told I had a hemorrhagic stroke. October 2015, I had 2 more strokes and surgeries. I never had a history of strokes, and was wondering could this be a part of an environmental issue with the chemical exposure from the new vehicle? any useful information would be greatly appreciate.
Front passenger weight classification sensor failure. Dealership says the only why to fix it is to replace seat for 1800. 00. Dealership cannot tell me if srs will work when needed. After doing so research online this looks like a big problem with hyundal cars throughout many model years. Hyundai has failed to remit this problem and is selling vehicles to the public with faulty air bag systems.
We purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata sport/l1 on 26 Dec 2014. My wife requires an extra cushion to sit on due lower back problems. Our previous car (2007 Chevrolet impala) has sensors under the passenger seat that control the passenger air bag deployment. With my wife sitting on the extra cushion, the sensors correctly determined she was sitting in the passenger seat and set the airbag to operate if we were to be involved in an accident. Not realizing we were going to have a problem with the new Hyundai Sonata airbag sensors, we did not take the extra cushion along with us on the test drive. Three days later we discovered that the passenger airbag sensor did not recognize my wife sitting in the passenger seat while using her extra cushion for support. I brought this to the attention of the Hyundai service department where I purchased the car. Several attempts to correct the problem were unsuccessful, and I finally convinced the general manager to have the OCS system connected to the diagnostic computer and check the operating specifications. The general manager and the service manager informed me that the sensors were working properly, but they stated that Hyundai is now using a "gel pack" in the seat to sense if someone is sitting there. In the owners manual there is a note saying that a thick coat or extra cushion will not allow the sensors to operate properly. This seems to be a safety problem since anyone wearing a thick coat and sitting in the front passenger seat of the 2015 Sonata would not be protected by the airbag. Also, my wife is not the only person using an extra cushion for support while riding in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. We are now stuck with a new car that is unsafe for my wife to ride in "comfortably". We have experimented with "other" vehicles, and the extra cushion does not effect the sensors in them.
Airbag light came on one day and just never went off. No accidents or damage to the car had been done prior. Went to other mechanics and they couldn't even figure out what the code on their diagnostic machines was. Hyundai checked it and told me it was the passenger buckle canister. That's fine, but 400,000 of these in the 06-08 Sonata models have now "failed" and at $100 for a diagnostics, then another $250 for a belt buckle repairs, I don't see how this could be wear and tear in the vehicle. Just seems like easy money for Hyundai. Hope this gets resolved soon.
Sensors cause air system light to illuminate. System needs to be reset at dealership to clear. Technician said airbag won't deploy while this fault occurs. I have had this issue 4or 5 times. When I google Hyundai Sonata airbag issues I see many similar experiences with other people. This could be a potential safety hazard. I was told it was caused by a seat sensor. Yet under warranty they did not replace. No car is out of warranty.
I have 2007 Hyundai Sonata model. My passenger side sun visor (inside) is not holding and sunvisor is keep going down. But I used only few times because I used driver side sun visor lot of times and usually using driver side sun visor. The driver side sun visor is fine. And last year mirror is crack (inside sunvisor at passengerside). So I had complain many times to Hyundai USA hq and local dealer but they said you have to pay for and fix that. But I don't understand I only used few times that visor is problem? that sun visor has keep moving and shacking when I have driving and bother too. It is mean worry about driving. But Hyundai said we can do nothing!!!.
Drivers seat lumbar adjusting cam broke while driving, this is the second time it has broken and the lower back of the seat pushed in abruptly. This was very distracting while driving on high speed toll road in heavy traffic. The metal cam which was broken off, was found behind the drivers seat. This is such a small piece of metal and does not seem to be strong enough for what is required. My definition of the cam is the mechanical part that actually makes the adjustment inside of the seat and also supports the weight of the drivers lower back. Similar to a s cam of a braking system.
