The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact then received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000 (engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact then took the vehicle to rick case Hyundai (3180 satellite blvd, duluth, GA 30096) where she was informed that the defect was related to a defective head gasket which the dealer insisted was not related to the recall. The dealer also informed her that the engine block had been replaced prior to her owning the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the issues detailed in the recall could lead to a potential blown head gasket, which she linked to the vehicle failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vehicle was not repaired, and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

2 Car Stall problem

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and an alarm noise was coming from the instrument panel. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to taylor Hyundai (located at 3233 washington rd, aguata, GA 30907, (706) 868-1200) where it was diagnosed that the third rod in the engine needed to be replaced and caused the engine to seize. The contact stated that the vehicle still remained at the dealer. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was taken to rick case Hyundai (located at 3180 satellite blvd NW, duluth, GA 30096, (678) 321-1584) to be diagnosed, but the cause the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was informed that hybrids were supposed to operate in that manner. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 15688279. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2018

The car began lurching forward intermittently at highway speeds (65+ mph) when travelling in a straight line on a flat highway on day 1, after 30 minutes of driving. On day 2, the car failed to shift gears at low speeds (<40 mph) while decelerating downhill on a city street, after running normally for 30 minutes at highway speeds. It coasted slightly uphill in first gear to the destination on a city street, unable to accelerate from 5mph. It was towed ($88) to a mechanic where it failed a road test, and the transmission and clutch assembly were pronounced dead. A new transmission and clutch assembly were installed and the engine (odo 131,000+) failed to turn over. $650 in labor to diagnose and attempt repair/replacement. Repairs were estimated at $8,100 and the kbb value was less than $3,200. The car is otherwise in excellent condition and is being sold to a junk yard with new tires under it.

4 Car Stall problem

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. While driving various speeds or making a turn, the vehicle would sputter and then stall without warning. In addition, the vehicle experienced a drastic reduction in speed. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, it traveled to the floorboard, and then the vehicle would suddenly accelerate. The contact stated that a possible cause of the failure could be the wastegate actuator. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was awaiting their response. Failure to perform warranty repair. Vehicle still under warranty. No help. Please advice. Matthew highway stalling and dash board lights, lithium battery replaced. Car towed more than twice to dealership and costs for towing. Thanks.
