Electrical System Problems of Hyundai Sonata Hybrid - part 2

While driving on the highway I noticed a knocking sound radiating from my engine at speeds of 60 mph it the noise increased and then the engine appeared to be failing. My gages where the rmp's reflect where not functioning either. Amongst the engine issue my power steering column is also rattling as if it is loose and steering is become difficult. It is frightening to not feel safe in your own vehicle.

Mileage was about 16,500. On the freeway going about 70 mph, car shut down with alarm information and into a controlled glide, not allowing acceleration. After almost being run into I was able to move to the right shoulder and per directions, shut off motor. Was able to restart. Went three miles to my destination and car was towed to dealer. They did not know the problem, and after two days I got the car returned. They said they had to call the manufacturer to find the defect. Going home that evening after traveling about eight miles and again on the freeway going about 70 mph, the car again did the same thing on the freeway. Again starting it, the car went another five miles on the freeway when it again happened. Three times, same thing!!! (much like what I read about the prius two days ago. ) no longer feeling the car was safe in that it is difficult to Dodge vehicles on a freeway when a car shuts down three times, I traded it in. All I was told by the dealer that it had to do with the hybrid system.

Check charge system alarm(chime) comes on when the car is turned on. The car hesitates when accelerating, then suddenly gains speed without touching the gas pedal. Battery, check engine, and service lights are also on.

For the past 3 years a siren goes off in my car and the lites start flashing such as brake lights, the key fob light states showing as if it can't be found in vehicle. Most of all the vehicle can't start. The first time I brought it to one dealership to have my battery replaced. The second year I had the same thing happened right in the mist of traffic, the car stopped and couldn't move, same symptoms and had to have it towed from south phila. To burlington NJ. , results were that the relays had failed. Just this week I went to start my car and nothing happened. Tried again and the interior lights started blinking and a siren like a diving submarine started blaring. Called the tow service and again brought it to dealership. This time my car is at the shop with no clue as to what's wrong with it.

We bought this car used from the dealer early on we had hybrid warning system issues we have been stuck on the side of the road several times having to have the car towed to the dealer recharged and service each time we were told they don't find anything wrong the dealer charges the battery and gives the car back. Now 3 years later we got the oil changed as normal, it's thanksgiving week and we are headed to vacation 3 hours from home we ar e an hour away from destination and the car loses power going up hill the oil pan light comes on, we pull over in the middle of the mountains and sit on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck to find us. We tow the car to the dealer hoping something wasn't done right with the oil changed however dealer says the engine seized and the car is outside of warranty and extended warranty so we will need to pay $6600 to replace with used engine. This car is 4 years old we regularly had the oil changed. We are not given any reason for the seized engine. Please look into this. This car has been nothing but problems since the day we got it and the dealer has never provided much help as were asked to take pictures which we did but still nothing.

On October 28, 2017, I was injured in an automobile collision, which was caused solely by a malfunction by my 2013 Hyundai sonata. On that date, I was driving my vehicle safely and carefully, like I always do. I was proceeding slowly in my car, and traveling between 10 miles per hour. I stepped on the brake pedal and tried to bring my vehicle to a complete stop. However, when I stepped on the brake pedal, the brakes would not engage, and the car kept moving forward and the shifting gears got stuck. Despite my multiple efforts to apply sufficient force to the brakes, the car would not stop. I then tried to disengage the transmission by placing the shift selector to �neutral,� but I could not move shifter or move the shifter from �drive� to �neutral. � despite pressing firmly on the button and shifter, I was unable to put the car in neutral, and it proceeded forwarded until it struck a street sign, whereupon my vehicle came to rest. This is not the first time I had these problems with my car. I purchased my vehicle on or about October 15, 2014 from mission hills Hyundai (�dealer�), and have always had it serviced there. Earlier this year, on or about may 18, 2017, I took my car to the dealer to have the brakes and transmission inspected and serviced. At that time, I explained to the dealer service department that I was having difficulty with the brakes and shifter when putting the car into reverse.

(4011 s interstate 35, denton, TX 76210, (940) 243-6200) stated that the eco and cruise control functions failed and provided an interim repair of disconnecting the battery to clear the ecu and ecm codes, which affected the transmission. Another dealer (james wood Hyundai, 2110 us-287, decatur, TX 76234, (940) 627-4600) asked the first dealer to test drive the vehicle to generate the codes. The second dealer advised the contact not to drive the vehicle with the eco function activated. Both dealers stated that if the transmission was the cause of the failure, it may be replaced under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.

Tl- the contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the front side collision warning system failed to function. The vehicle was taken to stevens creek Hyundai located at 4425 stevens creek blvd, santa clara, CA 95051 where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. While driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle decelerated, stalled, and shut off. In addition, the check engine indicator illuminated and "charging system is not charging" was displayed. The contact called the local dealer (burns Hyundai, 550 w route 70, marlton, NJ 08053, (856) 983-3700) where a service appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe and the failure could lead to a crash or fatality. The failure mileage was 118,000.

It has overheat problem that Hyundai service couldn't fix. It broke down 6 times and was 3 times in the shop. 4/2/17, I was on fastest lane on 101 freeway in downtown la. Suddenly the car alarm beeps. Dash board displayed "hybrid system warning, safely stop and do not drive". The gas pedal was hard to press, (guess it goes into protection mode. ) fortunately it was in rush hour traffic that no car ram into me from behind. I forced the car switched lanes and exit freeway. After I parked, the car frozed. I can't turn on the emergency signal. Can't switch the gear to park, can't turn off the engine. . . I exit the car and wave cars behind me move ahead, then I got back the car and was able to turn off the engine. After it was off for 30 seconds, I can turn the engine back on and the car functions like normal. It was under 18000 miles. The service department says the coolant leak and replaced it. 5/15/17, while driving on freeway, I felt the car was into protection mode, hard to press the accelerator. But the alarm didn't sound off. I sent it in and the service couldn't duplicate the problem so they reset the computer of the car. 6/5/17 the car was parked in hot sun in ps for 30 minutes while me and my realtor go to check a house. I started the car following my realtor. I turned on the ac and the alarm goes off, same warning sign displayed and the car just froze. Hyundai sent a tow truck an hour later. After in the shop overnight, the service dept says they fixed it. 6/14. In ps again. The car was parked in hot sun. I got in and turn on the engine. Alarms goes off same warning sign. 6/26, with a friend on way to julian, the car engine thrust the car forward, a small icon lit up. I slowed down and parked , the alarm goes off, same warning words on dashboard. After let the car cool off, I was able to drive but 20 minutes later it happened again.

I was driving on the highway when suddenly the check charging light system warning came on, all 3 lights for oil, battery, and engine came on at the same time! the car stalled was not possible to stear and brakes didn't work. . . I had to coast luckily I was only in second to right line and easily got to emergency lane!! this happened on 101 in California during a busy time!!!.

While driving my car started alarming saying check charging system. . . It immediately went to 15 miles and hour while I was on i95 where speed limit is 65 mph. By the time I got home and turned the car off it would not turn back on. Ive had this car for a year and a half. I bought it new.

About an hour into driving home on the freeway, my car alert system went off and the car automatically began to decelerate and the dashboard display showed instructions to check hybrid charging system and to check surroundings and to pull over when safe and to not drive vehicle. The check engine light, the needs maintenance light and the check oil light all came on. After about 15 secs my vehicle lost all power but did not turn off; the steering wheel became locked. I placed the car into park and restarted it and the warning alert alarm ceased, but now the check engine light stayed on. The steering wheel was movable again and I was able to pull to the shoulder where a California highway patrol officer pulled up and asked me if I was having trouble. After our conversation, I was able to continue the additional 40 mile drive home as the local Hyundai dealerships were closed until the next day, Saturday March 18. I was able to drop my car off in the afternoon but due to their booked schedule, it could not be looked at until Monday March 20th and stayed over night. The technician called me that day and stated that the car test ran on it came back passing and no issues found and that they drove it about 20 miles and no issues and I was able to pick up my car on Tuesday. However, the same system issue happened 3 more times before I was able to take it back into the dealerahip later that week and it has been there as of 4/21/2017. I received a call today that a replacement hybrid battery was installed and after more tests I may get my car back.

I was driving on a interstate and suddenly I see "hybrid system warning message" + "check charging system" with continuous alarm beep sounds. I had to immediately move to the right most shoulder on the interstate (which I was able to as car was still on with engine running). Once, I moved to the shoulder, I turned off the engine and restarted the car with check engine light. It would turn on fine but wouldn't move and immediately it throws up the error. I have attached the pics for reference. Since car didn't turn off in the middle of highway, I was safely able to move it to the curb. I cannot imagine what would have happened if car had shut off. I had it towed to the nearest dealer and there are working on it. I just had a 45000 miles factory servicing with same dealership where the car got towed to and they checked on all the green boxes. Within a week, I had this issue. This is what troubling me.

2 times the engine stalled in the middle of an intersection due to hybrid system failure. A simple fuse for the hybrid system went out and turned off all power. The main issue is that this is a very dangerous design flaw. Other hybrid vehicles have a safety feature that when the hybrid system is not working the gasoline engine will still be in full operation. Everytime the engine light goes on it kills the whole car. I got stuck on an expressway and was put in a dangerous situation when this did not have to happen because they don't have to make the 2 motors completely dependent on each other. Having the gasoline engine continue to run and be able to power the car in a hybrid system failure will save someone's life. I am not sure why this is not a requirement by law to have this safety feature.

As I was driving down the road, a warning sign appears in my dash that says do not drive. . . . Mean while im already driving. . . . Cars starts to stall and wheel locks. I get the car towed to the dealership that night and the next day. . . Which is today I am waiting for someone to call and ask me what happens and nothing. . . So I decided to drive there and what do I see. . . . . My car sitting on the side like no one cars that is there. . . When I go in I find out that there is only 1 person that works on hybrids and they don't know when they will be able to take a look at it. . . Oh and lets not forget they don't do loaner cars. . I just bought this car 1 year ago from this same dealership. . . They cant give me any type of estimate of when the tech will be able to look at my car. . . This is very bad service!!! why would my car stop driving after having it only a year?????.

The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and was restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing could be done. The failure recurred and was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated that when the vehicle was shifted into park, the eps (electric power steering) warning light illuminated. In addition, the vehicle failed to power off and the ¿shift gear into park¿ warning message illuminated when the vehicle was already in the park position. The contact also stated that when the vehicle was powered off, it took numerous attempts to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Hybrid system warning has come on four times, car shuts off instantly, then the engine light comes on. The first time was on a city street, the second time was a the dealership when picking up the car after repair, the three time was in a parking lot, and the fourth time was on the interstate in heavy traffic. Car is not safe. Asked for a replacement with no resolution.

Car stopped in the middle of local street road and not able to be driven to move to side of road. Car towed to delaer for repair. Want to warn about this danger to other owners. We were lucky since no one was behind us when the car immediately stopped in the middle of the road. Car was repaired by delaer as follows. Tech scan codes and found codes u1007, p1775, p1774. Tech check a/t fluid, red color, smell normal. Reset codes, codes come back. TSB provided by tech line. Tech follow TSB#14-hc-003, result to replace oil pump control unit and recheck. After replacing oil pump control unit, same problem present. Tech replace oil pump, and found open yellow wire from oil pump unit to oil pump. Car runs normal and no codes present at this time. Tech try to put the old oil pump and pump module back in, problem happened again. Tech confirm the pump and module are bad. New oil pump and module reinstalled. Car under warranty and repair was successful. Delaer did a good job keeping me informed on the progress, even though it took longer than expected to repair the car.

Transmission acts like it is slipping and shifts abnormally in forward and reverse, driver window up/down button doesn't work correctly it only makes the window go up 1/4 of the way so you have to let go and press it again. The radio keeps showing and error message waiting to get into the dealer.

As I started to slow down from 75mph the car started to beep and the ready light was flashing. Many indicator lights came on to include the battery indicator light, and the amber box with a wrench in it. It said "check hybrid charging system" and "safely pull over" as the car slowed down the car would no longer go forward, the lights dimmed and would no longer accelerate.

After the 6th or 7th time the car is started, there is no radio sound. I have to turn the car off then back on 5 or 6 times to get the radio to engage. This happens regularly, starting a few months after I bought the car, which was brand new.

When pressing the accelerate pedal there seems to be a delay in response. The delay can be as short as a few milliseconds to almost 3 entire seconds. This problem happens randomly, and makes my wife and I very nervous when trying to maneuver or proceed into traffic after being stopped.

We were driving on i81n in virginia when it sounded like we were driving over gravel. I thought it could have been a tire. Found tires were ok. Waited to pull out safely. Seconds after we entered i81n, we began to lose power, a/c and a warning light indicating to check hybrid system came on in message board. We pulled off at exit 277n and had enough power to find a safe place to pull over. I discovered that the serpentine belt was shredded. We were towed to a Hyundai dealer where the car sat overnight on 9/6/15 until service opened on 9/8/15. The serpentine belt was replaced as well as the water pump belt which was also damaged. The mechanic informed me the new belt was not running true on the tensioner and a ridge had formed on the outside surface of the tensioner. My opinion is that the part was defective because the belt was not running true.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the hybrid safety warning do not drive warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the bms module needed to replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.

Rear taillight assemblies x 4 {left and right trunk hood assemblies and the outer turn signal/brakelight assemblies) have pooling of water and condensation/debris buildup inside the lens covers. Also noticed condensation and liquid buildup within the license plate illumination lenses. Very concerning as these are electrical components that are contained near the high-voltage lithium battery contained within the trunk space.

This problem has been getting progressively worse during the last 6 months. While driving or stopped at a light, the vehicle has sudden unexplained acceleration. The acceleration happens with or without the foot on the gas. When in drive, the driver can remove his foot from the gas and the vehicle continues to accelerate and pick up speed. The condition is extremely hazardous and warrants further investigation.

2014 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid was parked overnight in a garage. Early in the morning of November 24, 2014 it caught fire resulting in total loss of the vehicle and the home. The occupants were able to escape the home without injury.

Took car in for repair of malfunctioning stop lamp switch all the same issues as in NHTSA campaign 13v113000 even though my model year was covered in recall they said my VIN was not covered I was charged a fee to diag the vehicle and for parts and labor.
