1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

Around 70,000 miles on my 2005 Hyundai Tiburon, my mechanic friend noticed that the problem I was needing a new clutch. We purchased a clutch kit from duralast/zoom manufactured these parts. The clutch change in a Hyundai Tiburon is pretty expensive and $1025 was the cheapest I was quoted. The car seemed to be running fine for three days and then all of a sudden my clutch pedal had no resistance against it while I was driving through an intersection and would only shift if I "hard shifted" the clutch or if I pressed down on the clutch pedal as hard as I could. Luckily, the people driving southbound while I turned into their lane had narrowly swerved around my car. I could only imagine if their was a different vehicle coming since I just so happened to be babysitting my friends daughter that day! when I took my vehicle just up the road to the local Hyundai dealer, they told me the part was "mislabeled" and in the process the clutch was placed in the car backwards. This "mislabeled" clutch in turn damaged the flywheel, master cylinder, and slave cylinder and I had to pay $3000 more to get my car fixed. Auto zone and the Hyundai dealer both told me to talk to the manufacturer since the part is "defective". Finally, around 6 months later of constant phone calls, I get a hold of the right people through zoom manufacturing. They offered me a check for $253. When I talked to the manufacturer about this dilemma, he told me that this is all they can do and "we have honored the claim within the terms and policy with our customer. " regardless of zoom manufacturing's terrible customer service, I want to just make sure that these parts are no longer sold to the population. I asked many people in their department if the part was recalled so this didn't happen to someone else and no one gave me an answer. Also, my car is now at 82,000 miles and the clutch is already slipping.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

I am the sole driver of a 2007 Tiburon se. Two years ago, with only 25,685 miles on it, the car had clutch failure, was jerking when going into 1st gear, and not gliding when switching through the other gears. I took it to a dealership week and was told that they would have to take it down to the transmission which would take about 7 hours to do, and then there would be about a 10-30% chance that the problem would be due to driver error, in which case, I would be responsible for the cost of diagnosis (about $700) plus the repair. If the problem was deemed to be a defective part, then it would be covered under warranty. My first car in high school was a simca (stick shift). Then I drove a Toyota truck, then a Ford ranger truck, then a Ford mustang. All of which were stick shifts which I drove about 7 yrs each, and none of which ever had a clutch problem. To be told that I may have caused this problem by the way that I drive was somewhat insulting. Due to my persistence, the clutch was repaired under warranty. Now 2 yrs later, the same thing has happened again, and I am being told the same thing by Hyundai. I am 54 yrs old with over 40 yrs experiencing of driving cars with manual transmissions! now that I see that there are so many others with this issue, apparently, a class action suit was settled on the 2003 Tiburon clutches. They no longer make the Tiburon, perhaps there were just too many issues with them. Please help; this is happening to too many people and something needs to be done about it.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Shifting gears has led to slipping, grinding, and locking. It's gradually getting worse. Now, even when driving on the freeway shifting can lock up. Sometimes I have to force the shift into gear. Reverse is the worst. Had the master and slave cylinders replaced and still having issues with clutch.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 11/21/2001

Had cd player replaced, computer failure after that where the check engine light comes on, they replaced it - the the battery died for no reason, they replaced that, now my car is shifting out of control and surges when at stop light with my foot on the brake pedal, while driving 60m mph the car shifts into the same gear continuously and jolts then slows - they cant see a problem and say they cant help me, when they test drive it it's fine - the second I take it home from the dealership it starts up - it is dangerous to drive but since they cant find the problem from a test drive and computer test they dont know what to do except send me home with a dangerous car.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1998 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 07/06/1999

The car has been into Hyundai dealers 4 times since I've owned it. I am the original owner. Car has been in literally every other month since purchase in October 1998. Major problem has to do with the computer(s) and transmission. Check engine warning light, airbag warning light have both gone off. Car wouldn't shift and would hesitate at highway and side street speeds. Car just returned from dealer yesterday after 4th time in for repair. At 65 mph, the rpms suddenly shot to approx 5800. Car has been terribly unreliable. Hopefully it is fixed now, but I am filing this complaint because I fear that in another 2 months the problems will occur again.
