Car has randomly and completely shut down while driving (electrical components flash on the interior) with no ability to accelerate on four different incidences on 05/18/22, 05/19/22, 05/27/22 and 06/17/22. Requested an appointment at my dealership to have the car inspected on 06/01/22 but was called 2. 5 hours before the appointment on 06/18/22and informed that they could not inspect on the day I had selected. Without the ability to accelerate, had to coast to the side of the road to stop. To reset the vehicle, the vehicle has to be placed in park, shut off, and restarted. Three of these instances were in the city with very little room to pull over and one instance was on the highway at 65 mph and I had to navigate across two different lanes of traffic without the ability to accelerate. There have been no warning signs before the instances occurred.
I took in my 2017 Hyundai tuscon after the engine had stalled while driving. While in the shop, the engine was replaced which was part of a recall (campaign 209) and also recalls 195 and 966 was addressed. After the repairs and driving home from the dealership, the engine and air conditioning started making weird noises and the following warning lights went abs, power steering, and electronic stability control. When this happened, steering became difficult. We brought the car in the shop, but they denied there was any problem. Within two days after brining the car back to the dealership, the same problem occurred. And now the car will not even turn on.
Powertrain: vehicle losses power especially going up inclines or hills. This happened before and I spent over 4500 dollars on repair of a catalytic convertor that failed. This was late may of 2022. Now the car is back at a Hyundai dealership because the catalytic convertor has failed again it is Feb 2023. The car has extreme oil consumption which is one of the causes of catalytic convertor failures. The car in November of 2022 had a loss of power again but this time coils failed. Had all three coils and spark plugs replaced. The certified mechanic shop gave me the spark plugs and it was if they had a black felt on the tip of them. The mechanic said this was a sign of high oil consumption. High oil consumption is also a cause of coils and spark plugs failing prematurely. I have records to show how much oil I have bought and it is about 3 quarts every 1-2 months depending on how much I drive. This is extremely high and a sign of a faulty engine. It puts me in danger of being rear ended in traffic or on an open highway because it losses power. I use my car for work and sometimes that work takes me to small country towns. My work sometimes mean I get back when it is dark or get up when to get to work when it is dark. A car failure on a dark country road is unsafe. Yes a Hyundai dealearship in decatur and lubbock TX as well as a certified mechanic in keller texas can attest to no warning lights or codes and the car has high oil consumption. Inspected by two different Hyundai dealarship service repair locations no warning lights, no check engine lights, nothing to give notice of a problem about to occur. I have tried to deal with Hyundai but they refuse to accept that the issues are due to a bad manufactured engine. However all the signs point to that is the problem. Lastly the check brake light comes on but mechanics can never find a problem. So they replace the bulb but it just keeps happening. It will come on , stay on for a day , then go off. Just periodic.
Myself, like others I have seen report the issue. The door (for me driver side front) will not open from the outside latch after door is unlocked. Can only open door from inside latch.
Tcm component failed. Cause engine light to come on. During driving I went into reverse and it immediately stopped and shut completely off. If I was on the highway I would be in a severe accident. Hyundai inspected it but won’t give me the diagnosis or the issue with the car specifically. Initially when it happened no lights were on. It just shut down and wouldn’t move. A couple days later check engine came on.
I purchased my 2017 Tucson in 2020. It was the first car I’ve ever owned. I do not know much about cars but I noticed that there was some hesitation in acceleration and the engine was loud. Sometimes I would hear soft knocking on colder days but nothing extreme. I was told that the acceleration hesitation and the loud engine are due to the turbo. Then on 4/27/2022, without any warning, my engine stalled while I was at a traffic light. More importantly, I had zero warning lamps or messages. No engine warning or oil light was illuminated. My engine suddenly stalled. I don't drive my car very far. Use is relatively light. On average I drive about 10-20 miles per day. No one was hurt but what if this had happened on the highway? I would have definitely been rear-ended and hurt. My car passed inspection on 09/10/21. But earlier this year, on 22nd February 2022, I took it to the dealer for the engine recall (NHTSA campaign number: 21v727000). They assessed it and said it passed the tests but I have no way of knowing because the dealer would not share the full report. Additionally, the dealer did not address that the vehicle warning lamps and messages were not working when they noticed my oil was low. Hyundai has a long history of engine issues and recalls with regards to high oil consumption and connecting rod bearings inside the engine may wear prematurely. There are hundreds of complaints that match my description. Their engines have had issues since 2020 and these complaints date back to 2020 around the time I bought this vehicle. Even though there were no recalls at the time, the dealer should have disclosed these issues. I think it's negligence by Hyundai and the dealer for investigating why my warning lamps did not illuminate and did not properly communicate the seriousness of these issues.
An update on my previous complaint is attached. My vehicle has now been with the Hyundai dealership for two weeks with no resolution. They've provided little to no communication about the issues, or progress. Additionally, they have not provided me with a loaner vehicle, so I am without a mode of transportation for two weeks.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated they went to the dealer and had recalls 21v727000 ( engine ), 20v543000 ( service brakes, hydraulic ), and 16v842000 ( electrical system, trailer hitches ) recalls completed on their vehicle. The contact's vehicle was not failing to accelerate passed 60 mph. Once the contact reached 60 mph the vehicle would seize power. The contact would have to restart the vehicle to regain power and proceed driving at speeds lower than 60 mph. There were no warning lights. The contact had contacted the dealer however they had not been seen as of yet. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
Subsequently following an engine replacement due to recall, there is now an electrical issue which has caused something to burn or possibly start fire as there is a burning smell from the hood and heat coming from under the hood into the car's cabin from the dashboard area and the drivers seat bottom is very hot. The heat increases rapidly inside the car from the engine, whenever it is on and running or on and idle. This is obvious how my life was at risk as every time I put the key in ignition, my life was at risk of fire or explosion or worse while driving. Car also sputters or stays idle when trying to quickly accelerate and this happens at random. The following list is more (minor) electrical malfunctions that have gradually become noticeable as I was using the vehicle: cigarette light/phone charger power outlet does not stay connected and works sporadically; dashboard alerts are random and inaccurate; seems tires fall below normal psi daily and need to be filled with air more frequently tires were new before recall repairs. Oil changes more frequent also. Light bulbs burned out. Problems ongoing and I am unable to drive vehicle due to risk of death.
The vehicle started to having loss of power problem when reaching around at the speed of 60mph in highway. Due to this problem, the acceleration suddenly dropped sometime and I was not able to keep up with the flowing highway traffic and this highly risked my vehicle from being hit by the behind vehicle. This has put mine and other drivers safety at higher risk. Later after few weeks the engine warning light popped up on my dashboard. I checked my vehicle VIN in NHTSA website and found my vehicle have a recall related to the engine failure so took my vehicle to the nearest dealership but they also showed fault on something else and asked around $4000 to fix it all. I could not do it due to higher cost but they took $200 for diagnostic fees. They did not fix my recall too.
I bought this car as a certified pre-owned vehicle 5 weeks before this incident occured. . . While driving on a highway with a full load in the trunk, several warning lights progressively came traction control, downhill assist, oil and emergency brake. I continued to my destination (airport parking garage) as there was nowhere safe to pull off. As I approached the airport, an additional large red triangle illuminated in the center of the dashboard saying "check ----" (4 letters, I don't remember what they were). I stopped to get my parking ticket, and the car rolled backward as I tried to begin moving. I gunned the engine, and was able to get to a parking spot, but felt the car had very little power. On my return approximately 36 hours later the oil light was still on; so it was towed to the nearest Hyundai dealer. The tow truck driver commented on it having low power as he tried to drive it onto the tow truck ramp. This Hyundai dealer was unable to find anything wrong. I drove it to the dealer from whom I had bought the car; they tried to recreate the situation where this occurred, and said they were unable to do so. I am concerned as this problem has not been diagnosed or repaired, and did cause a partial loss of power, which could have caused an accident. My dealer has traded me out of this vehicle into another car, as I no longer felt safe in this one.
2017 Hyundai Tucson, alerts driver that the rear left brake bulb is bad. But when the lamp is removed the bulb looks dark but the inside leads aren't broken. But the bulb socket looks like burned. Car has only 49,263miles.
Door Smart key button has broken (driver's & front passenger's door) user is unable to lock/unlock the car. User must use the beeper or key to unlock/lock the car. Went to dealership and the told me that the car has been forced by someone because is very easy to steal. Went to another place and they basically told me that the button broke from usage not by forcing it to enter the car and part is very weak. Vehicle has been indoors and other vehicles doesn't. Car company could knew the issue as the new redesigned model has a touchscreen handle to unlock. Lock the car.
I own a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. While trying to get my elderly grandmother out of the backseat to her appointment the rear drivers side door failed and would not open. After multiple attempts trying to open from outside and inside my ninety year old grandmother had to maneuver herself to get out of the other door. This is a safety issue and Hyundai needs to address it. I have spoke with multiple Hyundai owners whom have experienced the same problem. What if there was an emergency/fire and no access to an available door??? I’m unsure if my service warranty will cover it, I’m scheduled to have it replaced but of course Hyundai is out weeks for appointments. With growing concern and thousands with the same problem this needs to be addressed immediately!.
There is a recall out for my vehicle to fix / replace parts as a glitch with the electrical system could cause an engine fire (Hyundai recall 195). I was told when I brought the vehicle into the dealership that I would have to wait 5 months before they could fix it.
My daughter was driving her car up a hill on hwy 2 and it slowed to a stop. She pulled over and it started smoking. The engine caught fire and burned her car. It was a total loss.
Traveling with wife and infant westbound 210 freeway in pasadena, CA. At highway speed. Wife and I heard a continuous, muffled clicking sound for 20-30 seconds. I felt a slight loss of engine power, at which point, I began making my way from the hov lane to exit. While moving over, I saw a puff of light gray smoke from the rear followed immediately by similar smoke and then some flames from under the hood. There was very little to no engine power at this time as I came to a stop on the shoulder, placed it in park and turned off the ignition. As we stopped, the flames became much greater. We were all able to quickly exit and get to a safe distance. As an aside, we had only days before received a recall notice for this vehicle from Hyundai to address a manufacturer defect that could cause spontaneous, non-collision engine fires. I had not had opportunity to take it in yet.
I called to have the recall fixed and was informed there is a waiting list of unknown length. This could be a potentially fatal problem. There should not be a waiting list.
Rear passenger side door. Door will not open from either the inside or outside. Apparently this is a very common issue with this make/model. Mechanical failure.
The car makes a squeaking noise and has slow acceleration when pressing on the gas.
Nhtsa #20v543000 recall number 195 still has no remedy for this year model. The dealer I just bought my vehicle from has 13/14 certified pre owned with open recalls of this nature. I purchased and then was told I could not take it until the recall was fixed. Understandable and appreciated. The next day nobody would answer my texts or messages. Upon researching I see why. Obviously I do not want to drive my child around in a new vehicle that might catch fire. Why do you allow them to continue to sell them? why isn't there a remedy after 2. 5 years?!?.
There is a current recall on this vehicle: NHTSA recall number20v543000. I have called the dealer and they have no idea of when Hyundai will provide a fix. Since this defect can cause the car to catch fire can you please find out about the fix for this problem.
Driver side brake light has gone out 4 times in 3 years.
Currently awaiting a letter from the dealer to have my Tucson fixed due to the recall that could start a fire. Currently not able to rent it out due to open recall.
Our 2017 Hyundai Tucson is going through a lot of oil. We are having a consumption test done. I called the Hyundai dealer where we had the oil change and he said he heard something about Hyundai Tucson's burning through a lot of oil. I did see a lawsuit for the 2016 models and think 2017 models are having similar issue. Our seat reclining electrical button is also failing the seat to recline properly.
1. Lost of power/acceleration when in drive mode, has happen multiple times but told by service dept, nothing is wrong during their test drives. 2. Driver door does not open on the outside, has to open from the inside. 3. Smell of exhaust inside cabinet. Have been turned away from dealer services due to warranty coverage. I believe vehicle is a lemon.
Shortage in the electrical system. . Never had so many blubs blown out on 1 car - brake lights and head lights. Now there is a shortage iin the hood. . . The fan keeps going even when the car is turned off, clicks a couple of times and the far starts up again.
This is the 5th time. Rear brake light blew out on driver side this time. Set another appointment for 12-06-2019.
Transmission gear not catching periodically. And the rear brake lights have blew out for the fourth time. Both brake harnesses were replaced by Hyundai previously due to burn up.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving up a mountain she experienced the vehicle making a knocking noise and locking up. The contact stated she was not involved in a crash and did not sustain any injuries. The contact stated when the car locks up she is not able to turn the key in ignition or move her vehicle. The contact stated she had to call aaa and when they came they reset something in here vehicle (she is not sure what) and the car was able to start. The contact stated that she did receive a a recall notice in regards to the same failure she is experiencing. The contact stated she has tried contacting the dealer but no one was able to assist her and when she calls manufacturer she does not reach anyone. The contact stated at the time of failure multiple warning lights had illuminated at the time. The failure mileage was 31,000.
I made a complaint against this same problem but now it is on the opposite side. The brake rear passenger side has burned. The dealership blocked em from making an appointment to repair the defect. I will try again. This is the second burning of the brake light system.
The rear brake light socket burned. In addition, the brake light was installed improperly making it extremely difficult to remove.
At approximately 6:10 pm on Wednesday 8/7/19, I was on an outlying road turning on a roundabout, I had slowed to approximately 15 mph to enter the roundabout and was accelerating to exit it, when my 2017 Hyundai tuscon spontaneously and without warning shut off. The car slowed and the screens went black. I was able to get to the shoulder before it stopped completely and turn my hazard lights on. I waited a few seconds and tried the car, it started right up. I turned around and went home (8 minute trip, along outlying roads) I am unsure which component caused the malfunction that caused my car to spontaneously shut off.
2017 Hyundai Tucson. Consumer writes in regards to loss of vehicle power which resulted in an accident.
The bright light / turn signal arm has an off. . Auto. . On rotating end that controls the headlights/dash/bright-dim control. When the lights are on bright you have to pull the switch arm to dim the lights. The trouble is the rotating end moves from auto to off, shutting all the light dash etc off. Since you are driving at 55 to 75 mph and all the lights go off leaving you moving high speed in the dark Hyundai is endangering my life and the lives of the passengers intentionall because of the poor incompetant design. They should re design the switch arm and remove the light switch from the end of the turn signal arm. I have to take nitro glycerine because I'm scared to death. Other drivers have the exact same problem. All tuscons should be removed from the road until this is fixed. The dealer doesn't care. Hyundai should be fined and jailed for dangerous engineering. It happens multiple times!.
