I had 2 fuel injectors fail on my car within a 3 week period. The car is only 2. 5 yrs old and has 48,500mi on it both instances where when I was on a highway. I had the 1st fuel injector fail on [xxx] and then the 2nd one failed about 3 weeks later on [xxx]. When the 2nd fuel injector failed, I was barely able to drive the car to a safe place to get it towed. I spoke with a Hyundai corp case worker and I asked why they didn't just replace the remaining 2 fuel injectors. Her response was that they don't replace them when they fail. I now have a 2 year old car that I am afraid to drive because I never know where or when it will leave me stranded. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I had my gps on and it completely stopped working sending me in circles and the voice directing completely stopped. Very dangerous it had me making u-turns at dangerous intersections. I stopped several times put address in again. This has happened several times and it is very dangerous. Also this address is a known gps address not some obscure destination ´ next twice I have pushed the start button with my foot on the brake and the car would not start. Third try it started.
Vehicle suddenly unable to accelerate. Engine shuddered & produced a burning smell until we could safely pull over. Towed to dealership where diagnostics showed faulty fuel injector & they replaced 1 gdi fuel injector per TSB 23-FL-002h-1.
2022 Hyundai Tucson with repeated check engine light and vehicle losing power. Vehicle losing power and inability to exceed speeds of 15 mph with vehicle shaking, knocking, and pedals shaking. No warning that this was going to occur until vehicle becomes unsafe to drive. This has happened twice and one of which was on a high way which created an incredibly unsafe situation. First time diagnostic code was p0303 which was a cylinder 3 misfire and second time - less than 4 months later- diagnostic code was a p0302 cylinder 2 misfire. Hyundai only repairs one injector at a time; refusing to do all 4 despite being a heavily documented issue on this make/model. This would be able to be confirmed by request. This was also confirmed both times by two separate independent service centers. Vehicle has about 25,000 miles on it and has had 3 check engine lights over the past 3 years of owning- it was bought new. The first time was 2 days of owning and it was a bad iat that resulted in engine stalling once again. All 3 times the car was unable to be driven and created substantial safety concerns with inability to drive.
On August 1st I was on the highway at 55 mph when my 2022 Hyundai Tucson decelerated to 20 mph and would not go faster. This occurred on the highway at 5:45 pm. This placed myself and others in danger as I was on the highway in the center lane at the time of the deceleration. After turning the car in, the dealership returned the car with no repairs but stating that I engaged a button that caused a limit to the car's speed. I didn't understand but took their word. I drove it from the dealership to the store and home. The very next morning while taking my grandson to school at 5:15 am the car decelerated from 45 to 20 mph with my grandson inside the car. This placed myself and a family member in danger along with cars around me. Each time I had to drive to the dealership in unsafe conditions. They stated that I was not engaging the brake enough to charge the battery. I do not know of any documentation stating the number of times the brake must be engaged per drive. I have never heard of such engineering that allows a car to only go 20 mph and create a hazard for the occupants unknowingly. The dealership has stated that refuse to fix the problem but I should engage the brakes more often when I drive. The car has spent several months in their care due to continued repairs over the time that I've had it and is currently their because of the engine light being on.
On 5/27/24, my check engine light came on and the vehicle stayed to shimmy and shake each time I would press on the gas. Had the vehicle towed to the dealer for the #4 fuel injector assembly to be replaced. The same thing happened on 7/16/24 while traveling out of state. I was traveling on a highway and had to keep my emergency flashers on as I tried to coax the car to the next exit. Couldn't go above 25-30 mph. Had vehicle towed to a dealer for the #2 fuel injector assembly to be replaced. Now I am again without a vehicle because on 7/26/24, the same thing happened and I was told it is the #1 fuel injector. I was told by 2 different dealers that this is a known Hyundai Tucson issue but they are only allowed to replace what is coming up with an error code. They are not permitted to change all of the assemblies at one time, even though it would save them and Hyundai corporate quite a bit of money in the long term. They've now paid to tow my car 3 times, paid workers 3 times the amount of money to replace what could've and should've been done the first time. The dealer was going to try to get the #3 assembly replaced now but there is no guarantee. I'm afraid that I'll have to be back there in another week or two for the last one. This is a serious issue that is not being addressed.
Car lost power as I was entering fast traffic area. Acceleration became unresponsive and vehicle came to halt. Would not move there after. Had it occurred a few seconds later I would’ve found myself unable to accelerate in an acceleration lane, or shortly after merging potentially causing injury to myself and others. After getting the issue diagnosed by Hyundai it is apparently a faulty fuel injectors. Researching online, this appears to be a known problem for the 2022 Hyundai Tucson with many claiming they were left stranded on highways, at intersections and during snow fall. In general this issue makes owners fearful to drive their cars. Apparently, this may be caused by a bad batch of injectors but to my knowledge Hyundai only replaces known bad injectors instead of replacing all injectors from the faulty batch. Due to this many experience multiple failures in short periods in short periods of time, increasing risk of safety incidents. My vehicle’s failed at approximately 22k miles but others have reported failures much sooner.
14202 miles on this car with regular oil changes by dealership. Engine is knocking and needs a whole new engine. No warning, no lights, no codes. Is not able to be driven. Had my whole family in the car.
Car lunched from a traveling in traffic 50+ mph to 39 mph and then had to push the pedal to the floor to get it off the highway and on the side during 5 o'clock traffic. Said something about the hybrid battery and went dead. Dealer has had it for 11 days and still can't get it started. Apparently there are three batteries in relation to this hybrid and all 3 don't work and never seen this before. Since it's been at the dealer, Hyundai has emailed me no less than 3 times that I need to check my lights because my battery is getting low all the while it has been completely dead and they don't even know it. Suffice to say, there was no warning other than a couple of miles prior, my car lunched down to the 39 mph and I lunged on the gas and it picked back up again but it wouldn't do it a 2d time. They obviously still don't know about the vehicle being so dead 2 different tow trucks had to be called because even the tires were locked up. Just still receiving my messages I need to check my lights because my battery (not batteries multiple) is low and it's not low, theyre all 3 dead. I was in a dangerous situation and always felt safe in a 2 yr old car with a full tank and hybrid battery backup and less than. 20k miles. If ever fixed because service may have to send out of state I will never buy a hyandai or hybrid again. The entire battery system broke down. Which killed the entire electrical system which now no one knows how to fix.
Fuel injector went out in the middle of highway and vehicle had to be towed after vehicle starting shaking and couldn't drive above 25 miles per hour. This is a known issue by Hyundai in 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
Fuel injector failure on 02/2024. Fuel injector failure on 06/2024. Both times car lost power and started shaking. Hyundai service center will only replace one at a time. Car only has 28k miles.
I was merging on the highway when the car bucked and the check engine light came on. I couldn’t drive over 20 mph without the car shaking. I pulled over and had the car towed. The issue was a faulty fuel injector. It was replaced under warranty. I am worried reading online about this problem happening again. My family has owned 4 Hyundais and I’m starting to loose faith in their reliability. This really needs to be recalled.
Engine failed to switch out of battery power and loses power on the highway. This has happened on two different days the first time I had 58,000 mile the second time after Hyundai said it had been repaired the car has 65,000 mile. Both times my car went from 60 mph to 30 mph quickly. The last time I was in a construction zone and unable to get off the road and was only driving at 10 mph on a very busy highway. The car has been at the Hyundai shop since June. No there were no warning lamps, or messages.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the hybrid powertrain system, transmission, or engine appears to be malfunctioning. The vehicle hesitates or stalls when pressing the gas, losing power as if it doesn’t recognize when to transition between ev and gas mode. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the issue caused the vehicle to lose power unexpectedly, particularly while driving at highway speeds, which forced me to pull over multiple times for safety reasons. This happened on [xxx] before the [xxx] tunnel, creating a hazardous situation in heavy traffic. If the vehicle stalled at the wrong moment—such as in an intersection or while merging—it could significantly increase the risk of a crash. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no. I have taken the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership, but no official errors or diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) have been detected. The dealership has not confirmed the issue unless I agree to high-cost diagnostics that may not guarantee a resolution. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? the vehicle has been looked at by a Hyundai dealership, but no official findings or resolutions have been provided. The issue persists, and no recall or technical service bulletin (TSB) has been mentioned to me as a possible cause. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warning lights, error messages, or dashboard alerts appeared before or during the power loss. The issue first started occurring at approximately 35,000–40,000 miles and has continued to around 50,000 miles. The first time I noticed the problem was during a long-distance drive from los angeles to CO information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.
The contact owned a 2012 kia optima. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and was driving slowly. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that recently, while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled with an unknown message displayed. The contact was helped over to the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Ignition coil failure while driving. Loss of power, jerking performance, almost to point of stalling. No check engine lights until failure. Confirmed with scanner what computer was registering. I’ve seen other posts online of this happening.
I was driving on the highway when the engine would not accelerate. I was stuck in a high speed lane and drivers were on my rear bumper. I could not move over and felt helpless. I pulled off at the next exit and the vehicle was sputtering. I made it home at reduced speed. The vehicle would not start the next morning. I had it towed to the nearest dealership. I was contacted days later and informed that the is a bulletin about power loss due to faulty fuel injectors. Many complaint sites are full of the same problems. I now feel unsafe driving the vehicle on trips. I don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere. I am a female senior citizen.
Nhtsa complaint on Sunday, March 10th 2024 our 2022 Hyundai Tucson with 2. 5l engine started missing in one of the cylinders. It did not disable the vehicle and it ran like that for several blocks until we could pullover to safety. At this time there were no warning lights of any kind. It wasn’t until I turned the car off, checked the oil (which was good), started the car again and did a lap around the parking lot that the check engine light came on. So there were no warnings. We dropped the car off at our local Hyundai service center that night so it could be checked first thing the next day. It turned out that it was a bad spark plug and injector. At that point it was no big deal. We chalked it up to a fluke. We received the car back on Thursday, March 14th with the explanation of what happened and that it was replaced under warranty. There were no recommendations made upon pick up. Exactly 2 weeks later on Thursday, March 28th, the car lost all power while traveling 60mph in the middle lane of the interstate. Again, there were no warning or diagnostic lights coming on. It was pure luck that there was minimal traffic and other drivers were paying attention as the car came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway in order to be restarted and it refused to accelerate above 20mph in order to limp to the shoulder and get to safety. Over an hour later and stopping and starting the car in a parking lot, the check engine light finally came on. The engine was running worse this time. The car had to be towed this time to the service center. After being checked out it was another spark plug and a fouled fuel injector. Researching online showed that this is a very common issue with Hyundai fuel injectors between 12,000 and 25,000 miles. There are currently no technical service bulletins or recalls warning owners of this common failure and potentially losing power traveling at high speeds. Research showed there have been 3 collisions caused by this exact issue to date.
While driving on busy highway the vehicle would not accelerate even with more gas applied. Gave warning to check hybrid system and pull to safety. Vehicle wouldn’t turn off after pulling over and in park with flashers on. Various warning lights all came on, gave message of battery discharge warning, check brakes, check abs, check brakes then everything complete shut off including hazard lights. Wouldn’t start after that until jumped by tow driver. This is the second time this occurred, first time being within the first year after purchase.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while attempting to drive through a yellow light, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The same failure occurred soon after while on a highway ramp. The contact attempted to merge onto the highway, but the vehicle failed to accelerate with the accelerator pedal depressed to the floorboard. The contact pulled off to the shoulder of the highway and restarted the vehicle; the vehicle resumed normal operation after the engine restart. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was made to have the vehicle serviced. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The vehicle had was not repaired. The failure mileage was 32,340.
In December, while parking in garage, the vehicle suddenly accelerated causing considerable property damage yesterday, Feb 26,2024 this happened again while parking. The car suddenly accelerated while parking, jumping over the parking curb and into the corner of a building causing major damage to the vehicle. No airbag deployment or forward collision warning in either case.
Fuel injector failure on 02/2024. Fuel injector failure on 06/2024. Both times car lost power and started shaking. Hyundai service center will only replace one at a time. Car only has 28k miles.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving approximately 65 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle began to vibrate, lose motive power, and then stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that cylinder #4 fuel injector had failed. The fuel injector was replaced; however, the same failure occurred with fuel injector #3. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 34,219.
This is the third time I had issues with my 2022 Hyundai Tucson losing power, being unable to accelerate, and/or completely losing power and stopping. I already created an nhsta report/complaint when the first incident occurred 11 months ago (NHTSA id number: 11507213). Since then, the issue occurred twice (has 33,000 miles & always maintained). I am a professional female in my 60's. The 2nd time was at night Nov 2, 2023; I was on my way to a program for work, car decelerated. I could navigate, with great distress and frustration to a side street where the car shut off completely. I contacted my husband, my supervisor (who delayed the program start for a few minutes, then began without me), Hyundai blue link and aaa. My supervisor sent someone to pick me up so I could be present at the program and make my presentation. A colleague returned me to my failed vehicle. I called aaa for an update on the tow, which I was told would not be for another several hours after midnight. My colleague drove me home (16. 5 miles one way: my husband was even further away) as I would have again been alone in my vehicle at night (without heat). This third time (Jan 2024), I used the climate start for at least 12 minutes before driving. The car never gained acceleration above 19 mph, occurring immediately. I thought it was just a cold engine that would dissipate as I drove, but it didn't. Since I could not get the engine to accelerate, I could not get heat. It was as though the engine was draining all the functions of the vehicle. There were no cars in front of me, but several drivers behind me were very angry; amazingly, no accident occurred. Finally drove to dealer, called uber, and was late to work again! purchased my Tucson after engine issues with my Hyundai sante fe. Both purchased new with many extended warranties, assuming I'd have a safe and reliable vehicle. Car still at dealer (10 days). Is Hyundai ignoring safety and significant hazards over sales and profits?.
Case synopsis: my ownership includes three Hyundai hybrid vehicles: two 2020 sonata hybrids and one 2022 Tucson hybrid. Each car has consistently manifested engineering defects, predominantly overheating, within a year of purchase. These persistent malfunctions have led to the vehicles being inoperable and beyond repair. As a result, we have endured financial setbacks from negative equity, costs of repairs, reduced value of the cars, and considerable inconvenience and safety hazards due to these ongoing overheating issues.
While driving uphill, the car lost power, beginning to spurt and stalling. Then the car was not able to accelerate while car kept spurting and stopping. It was a dangerous situation as this happened while we were driving, in the middle of the road, while going uphill. Thankfully it was at night and there were no cars behind us but if there was we would have clashed into it. Towed the vehicle to the dealership and was informed that the same year Tucson came in the night before with similar problems. It appears that there is a pattern to this safety concern. Please take action before someone gets hurt. Car shutting off like this while driving poses safety concerns for drivers and all the people around it. Even with fix, I don't feel safe driving unless I see actions taken by Hyundai to solve this apparent issue with powertrain/engine.
My wife was with my aunt and driving at 70mph on pgbt highway and instant the check engine light come on and the car started smelling of burnt equipment and stalled. The cabin was filled with white smoke and the windows jammed as well. The car was stalled in the middle of the highway with traffic zooming past and severing to save us. This car put my family is a life threatening situation and I want that to be recorded. We use this vehicle for our family trips and it haunts me to think what it can do to my wife and kids. I have started a formal complaint with Hyundai corporate and the complaint number is 22494136. Also the car is with Hyundai dealership at address: 1301 n central expy, mckinney, TX 75070 (469) 525-4300) and I am yet to receive a diagnosis from them on what actually happened to the vehicle. Cops were called at the scene but a formal police report was not given.
System failed: shut off in traffic. Vehicle can be inspected upon request. Safety risk: potential for collision. Input from dealership: dealerships error code/diagnostic code was p213800. Reset system and recharge battery. Warning lights came on at the same time as the car shut down. One month prior check engine light came on, but car was operating normally. Dealership ran diagnostic test which did not indicate any issues. The suggestion was to tighten the gas cap.
We fist noticed a problem with the car having a hard time accelerating and a hard shift at 25-35 mph back at the end of November. We then got a check engine light that came on that said p013a00 powertrain. We brought it to the dealership the first week of December and were told that the transmission just needed an update. Upon taking the car home it was better for about a week then the issue came back sporadically. Then on March 20th my wife was driving the car and it would not accelerate past 35 mph while getting onto the interstate. Cars were going by her at 70+mph as she sat there helplessly pressing the accelerator. Eventually she got the car up to 50 mph but it would not go any faster. We brought it into the dealership that day and once again they said the transmission needed an update. I then contacted Hyundai corporate and submitted a complaint and they started a case for the issue. After the second time at the dealership the car was ok for a week and then started with the same issues. After taking it to several other dealerships they all tell me that it’s a transmission issue that they don’t know how to fix but they change what they say once Hyundai corporate talks with them. Presently the car will have very high rpm and jump forward almost colliding with cars in front. It will also not accelerate such as the peddle is on the floor and the rpms are high but the car will barely move until it shifts gears and jumps forward.
This car has 36,000 miles, purchased new and serviced on schedule. The car is at the dealer for the third time since purchase. The first was a fuel injector issue/drivetrain error. The second time was a bad spark plug. The most current issue is another fuel injector. People on the internet have reported similar problems. The dealership has directed us to come get the car, which is unacceptable, because this is an engine error. I spoke to Hyundai customer car and they directed me to rent a car at my own cost and to not drive the car.
For the second time vehicle has lost power and slowly began slowing down. This time it was on the interstate which almost caused a collision with a semi. It is due to faulty fuel injectors which is a known issue with Hyundai.
1st incident: merging on to the freeway car started to stall but was able to safely make it off the freeway at next exit. Less than 2 miles was unable to accelerate to properly merge on freeway. A slow merge & slow driving on to a freeway is extremely dangerous. 2nd incident: 6 months later, Nov. 2023. Driving about 65-70 mph on the freeway with my son, the car started to stall again. I was able to safely move from the 2nd lane, to the shoulder. Waited over 2 hours in the dark for aaa to safely move us. 1st time documented issues with Hyundai dealership. Fuel injector was main issue and was replaced. No check eng light. 3rd incident: may 2024 was driving about 75mph in the fast lane when the car stalled. I was unable to move fully out of the lane as the car just died. I was half in the shoulder and the fast lane. I was crying with fear while I had to wait for chp to move me. Multiple times feared other cars would hit me at 80mph+ while I waited 30mins+ for chp to stop traffic and move me to the shoulder. Took the car to the dealership for the second time to be "fixed" for the same issue as Nov. 2023. Fuel injector, and catalytic converter were "replaced". This now being the second time for the fuel injector issue. No check eng light. 4th incident: April 2026 driving on a school night home from dinner with my son at about 9:45pm. It was raining and was traveling at about 55mph on the highway. Car started to stall/ shut down again. Was able to go about15mph to a safe spot and waited for assistance late at night. This happened on a highway where people tend to drive recklessly and try to pass other vehicles which causes a lot of head on collisions, [xxx] . Vehicle was towed to Hyundai dealership for the 3rd time & 3rd time documented for the fuel injector and 2nd for the catalytic converter. The vehicle's main purpose is to safely transport and I've had nothing but nightmares and put in extremely dangerous situations with my son. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b.
I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding a series of ongoing safety issues with our Hyundai Tucson 2022 (leased in 2022). We have encountered alarming problems that are affecting the safety and reliability of the vehicle. On July 29, 2023, my husband was driving the vehicle up a sharp incline when the car started shaking/jolting and abruptly shut off. This resulted in a highly dangerous situation as the car began to roll back. He was unable to restart the vehicle, and it had to be towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership. It took over a week for the dealership to address and rectify the issue. . . So we thought (see below). Also, please note that there was smoke coming out from the exhaust when the tow truck came. It looked like smoke from a flame inside. Fast forward to November 8, 2023, the vehicle was experiencing the same issue as before: continuous shaking/jolting, and the vehicle abruptly shut off once again. . . Stalling in the middle of a highway. A police officer saw what happened and helped my husband relocate the vehicle to the shoulder of the highway to avoid oncoming traffic/collision. He waited with my husband as he kept trying to get the vehicle to turn on. After 30 min, he was able to get it back on. The "check engine" light was illuminated. My husband drove home while the car was still shaking/jolting. We plan to, once again, have it towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership today. We were told the issue had been "resolved" from the last time this happened in July. Clearly, it was not resolved and I feel this vehicle should be recalled. These recurring problems are deeply unsettling for a vehicle that is not even two years old. Given the repeated and unresolved safety issues with this vehicle, I am concerned for the safety of myself, my family, my unborn child as I am expecting and other road users. I would like to request your immediate attention and intervention to address these problems effectively.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle intermittently went into limp mode with several unknown messages displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the failure occurred for approximately 15-20 seconds before the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
Car lost ability to accelerate and was shuddering for the second time. My personal code reader pulls up codes p0191 and p0303. Engine misfire. Second time since june28,2023. Bought the Hyundai Tucson brand new in December of 2021. First time car lost acceleration and was shuddering on the interstate with my toddler son and pregnant wife stranded. The second time was tonight, October 30th, 2023. I was in the car with my still pregnant wife and toddler son.
