The Tucson hybrid has died on the highway multiple times. Seems to happen on long drives the dealer has not reproduced this yet but my car has been at the shop for over 60 days. Car will stop accelerating even when gas pedal is pressed to the floor. Does not seem to be switching from battery power to gas power. No warning messages. First started in April.
On two occasions, immediately after startup, the vehicle has experienced vastly diminished power. Once in November 2023 and once on April 4, 2024. Both instances were identical. Vehicle could barely move from a stop, even at full throttle. Speed above 25 mph could not be achieved. Rpms exceeded 4500. Vehicle did not stall. No dash lights, warnings or chimes were triggered. Upon shutdown and restart, problem disappeared. Source of failure is unknown. Upon notification, dealer (gossett, memphis TN) offered a diagnostic service for $100 with a two month wait for available appointment. Vehicle has had no other issues. Vehicle is accident-free. Vehicle is unmodified and has received no service beyond scheduled oil changes.
While driving, my vehicle suddenly lost all power and didn't respond to the accelerator. The "check engine" and "hybrid system failure" lights came on, jeopardizing my safety and that of other road users. The car overheats significantly, to the extent that the air conditioning only blows hot air. This situation forced me to pull over on the highway shoulder, creating an additional risk for everyone involved in traffic.
In December, while parking in garage, the vehicle suddenly accelerated causing considerable property damage yesterday, Feb 26,2024 this happened again while parking. The car suddenly accelerated while parking, jumping over the parking curb and into the corner of a building causing major damage to the vehicle. No airbag deployment or forward collision warning in either case.
Turn signals are not working.
On a clear day in December 2023 the sunroof on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson hybrid 4d 4wd exploded. There was an incredibly loud bang while driving along hwy 29 outside wausau, wisconsin. I had the inside of the sunshade closed. I pulled over at the next exit. It was a beautiful clear day. I drove back to town to the dealer I purchased the vehicle from. They said they had never heard of this happening. Our insurance agent told my husband she had dealt with the same issue 3 weeks earlier.
I was driving & my sunroof shattered. My sunroof was closed but it completely broke. It sounded like a loud bang, or gun shot. When I pulled over, I realized it was the sunroof.
My panoramic sunroof shattered in the middle of expressway and nobody has been able to help two pieces of my sunroof of shattered and haven’t had this car for more than 6months and dealership won’t help my insurance won’t cover it it’s impossible and expensive to repair. How is it possible to have two accidents with just sunroof.
The collision avoidance system has been going off randomly when there are no cars around, and also in the middle of traffic when I am more than two car lengths away from other cars; when I am on the highway driving fast and when I am on side streets driving slow, and even in my driveway. Additionally, some of the times that the warning system flashes and sounds off the car brakes and stops in the middle of the road. There is no pattern for when the incidents occur not are there any adverse road conditions. Roads here are flat and this has occurred during periods of no rain. Safety of myself my passengers and other driver is at risk due to the vehicle stopping for no reason. I took the car to the dealer, and they could not duplicate the problem and did not find any issues when checking the diagnostics.
The audio suddenly stopped working (no warnings). This happened 3 times within the last few weeks. Dealer have fixed it each time (I. E. Audio is back). Without audio important safety audio warning is not working. Dealer told us Hyundai won't fix it because it will cost over $3000 to replace the amplifier.
I got this message on the car screen: check hybrid system!! last Sunday I was driving when I lost all acceleration and this warning came up and told me to pull over safely.
Unknown.
Hev and engine light came on while car was in motion and immediately lost power/decelerated, causing traffic hazzard to other potential drivers due to sudden and unexpected change in speed and inability to move car out of road. There were no prior warnings. Car is in shop and available for inspection.
The inverter refill coolant light keeps coming on. Check the fluid levels with the car running and off and the are full. Contact Hyundai and they have no idea what this is. Seeing this all over the forums for the 2022 hybrid.
All electrical systems proceeded to malfunction with the check engine and driver safety system warnings blaring. Vehicle proceeded to accelerate from 10-40 mph on its own for approximately 400 meters on the freeway. Vehicle brake and acceleration system did not respond to any driver input for approximately the entire length. Vehicle then proceeded to respond normally temporarily allowing us to pull over to a nearby parking lot and engage the emergency parking brake and out the gear into park. Transmission gear indicator then proceeded to switch randomly from drive to neutral to park and repeating with infotainment system glitching. After engine was shut off and given time it was restarted and vehicle operated normally. Vehicle is currently under diagnosis with service center (huffines Hyundai mckinney).
I drive 2022 Hyundai Tucson hyrbrid limited. I have noticed a plastic cluttering noise coming from outside hood area on driver side. This noise is always there at highway speed only. Have already complained to dealership but they act like they are confused and can’t figure out where exactly noise is coming from. Like me many people have complained about this same cluttering problem which nobody has figured out where exactly it’s coming from. But the noise is loud and always there at highway speed. Only way to hide this noise is by playing loud music.
Since I received my car, within a few couple of months I have noticed that the car would jump forward when changing the rpms/gears. When I had brought it in for an oil change, I had mentioned it to the service tech and they told me they would run a diagnostic to see if anything would pop up but the likelihood hood it wouldn't show anything. The second time I mentioned it again while I was driving, the car would accelerate faster than normal as though it was on sports mode even though it wasn't, and then the car/engine would jump or make the car lunge forward as it was slowing down. They said they would look into it again but nothing was found. A few months later I was driving home on the freeway when my car jumped again, the engine turned off and I was in the middle of the freeway not being able to accelerate but take the speed I was going to move over to the emergency side in order not to get hit by another car. I got it towed into the dealership, they said they would get back to me after a few days and once they found out what happened, they had my car for about 2 weeks. They also wanted me to pay for a fuel system flush and returned the car to me on empty gas which was full when I brought it in. The back passenger window wasn't working either and I had brought that up to their attention saying if I were to bring it back in I would need to pay for a diagnostic to get it fixed. I was upset and brought it into another dealership to get fixed and mentioned again about the car jumping and afraid that I would be left on the side of the road or the engine would turn off again. They couldn't do anything without an engine light to be turned on. I'm afraid of driving my car but why am I paying for something that the dealership cannot fix or know that whatever they did wasn't fixing the problem? I have brought in my car time and time again to get seen or fixed before the major issue happened and now electrical parts of the car are faulty with things turning off randomly.
The trailer towing guidance in the 2022 Hyundai Tucson hybrid owner’s manual is incorrect and would put the driver in a dangerous situation if followed. There are at least two key errors: - page 6-68 states, “the trailer tongue should weigh a maximum of 10% of the total loaded trailer weight . . . ” this is incorrect. For stability, the trailer tongue weight should be a minimum of 10% of the total loaded trailer weight. - the table on page 6-69 lists the maximum trailer weight when equipped with a braking system as 3,500 pounds. However, the table also gives that the maximum tongue weight as 220 pounds. That equates to a 6. 3% tongue weight. I contacted Hyundai to ask for clarification (see attached email). They told me that “towing capacity is based on engine power and other such concerns. Tongue weight is determined by the material strength of the hitch, anchor points, etc. And therefore the two will not necessarily coincide. ” I then asked them what the tongue weight limitation was based on and they said they did not know. The owner’s manual is over 11 mb, so I have only to two pages of concern.
When I’m at a dead stop, and start to drive off, there is a jerking at around 13 miles per hour. I believe it is when it is shifting from first into second gear. It happens often, but not all the time. This happened when I first bought my car, and I was told that the car has to get to know me. I thought this was true, because it seemed to have stopped at some point for a while. Now it is doing it again, but more dramatically. The jerking is very obvious. Also there have been about 5 times when the car revs by itself when I am in the 40’s. I am not pressing heaving on the gas, I am just driving, and it sounds like it slipped out of gear for a second and the car is revving, and then it just goes back to normal.
My car has 7000 miles on it. Three times now when trying to accelerate the rpm went up to 3000 rpm and the engine acted as if it was hitting a rev limiter. The car slowed down to approximately 10 mph. One was pulling out of my driveway interning a intersection and the others was when I was merging onto a major highway. All three times I was barely able to make it to the side of the road. I shut the car off and restarted it and everything was ok. The incidents happened a couple weeks apart.
I was driving down the interstate going highway speed approx 65-70mph when car began decelerating to a stop. No warning light ever came on.
I was driving down the road with no other vehicles around me when there was a loud popping sound. It was so loud it made my ears ring and I jerked the steering wheel a little to the left but I luckly did not leave my lane. It just really scared me. I slowed my car down and pulled over and inspected my car and I noticed a little crack in my windshield which has a little longer. I noticed about a year ago where this same windshield had ice on the inside which I had to scrape and wipe off before I could drive it. I love my car but could there be a defect on this windshield.
Three incidents of shifting from park to drive or reverse and car does not move in the drive or reverse. Turning phev car off seems to reset it. Third time car had a high pitch whine and trying to move in reverse caused a strong shudder and check engine light to come on. Diagnostic code for power train p072200. Turned car off and drove a few hours later and seemed to be back to normal. Dtc cleared after a few days. Dealer unable to check for a month. Have dashcam footage of last incident.
Driving the car acceleration will go to zero. You can floor it and it will only go to 20mph. The car asked you to pull over safely. They hybrid battery is at zero and warning signs keep flashing. Has happened over three times on a new car. Dealership can’t figure it out. When I look up “hev warning Tucson hybrid” there are many with same issue. Very, very dangerous issue.
I have noticed this only happens on very cold days and it has happened 7 times now. The car will be driving along and suddenly lose all power to the point you cannot accelerate above 15 mph even if you floor the gas pedal. While this happens the battery indicator will drop to 0 and then a message check hybrid system pops up. Once the car comes to a complete stop the parking brake will automatically engage and will not release. If you shut the car off and turn it back on, a message please wait while battery charges is on the display and will not disengage the parking brake until the battery charges up to about 35-40% . The dealer has looked at the car 4 times and found nothing as no codes ever registered. I even opened a case direct with Hyundai consumer affairs and they can not seem to find anything wrong with the car nor do they think it is an issue. I find this to be extremely unsafe for a vehicle to randomly lose power and refuse to come out of park regardless of where on the road you happen to be when this occurs. It has not happened since the temperatures have been above freezing, but with winter a few months away. I completely fear for my safety.
Initial incident happened in June 2022; car under 5k miles. When slowing down at a light, car suddenly started to shake and engine would shut off. Dashboard warning indicated place in neutral and start car again. After restart, car would still turn off, unable to move or shift gears without shutting down. After keeping engine off for a few minutes, car was driveable again but a sound coming from engine when in d while at a light. Brought to dealership in woodbridge, va but was told they were unable to replicate incident. 2nd incident occurred in October 29, 2022. At a light, car was going to auto shut off while at light but then lurched, shook violently and engine shut off. The dashboard said place in neutral and turn engine on. Was able to move car after a few attempts and move to safe area. Let car rest for a few hours. When driving, and slowing down at a light, car would shake; I would place in neutral and car will settle. Any time at a light, it has to be in neutral or else engine will die. Brought to dealership, added 15miles but unable to replicate. Nov 3rd, car began to lurch when at speed of 40 - 45. After stopping at a light, car would not accelarate, engine revving but little movement. Had to pull over and turn engine off. Nov 5th, while on highway vehicle began to lurch at 55-60mph, engine was at 4rpm, engine struggling but speed not increasing. Since on a downhill, car was moving but engine revving; speed not accelerating. Had to merge to shoulder; shut car off 2x and restart before car drove without incident. Videos of dashboard were taken during incidents in October and November.
The vehicle lost acceleration just as I was getting on the freeway ramp. It would move but slowly. I put emergency lights on, drive on the side and crept off the next exit and pulled into parking lot. Shut the vehicle off and checked tires, gas pedal, under hood. All seemed ok. I started the car and it started moving and then went back to hardly moving. I was near the dealership when this happened so took it to dealership/ service. It has had a few episodes we’re it seemed something was wrong with the car prior to this. A dragging or not shifting into gear as it should were I have pulled over to see if my tire had gone flat or something. Then it goes away. Also clock kept running slow loosing a minute every few days. Hyundai service could not get the car to repeat the incident. They ran a scan and codes were ok.
I bought this car less than 30 days ago, and it has 1,500 miles. I tried to start my car in the morning and when I put it in reverse, it just rolled forward. I braked and put it back in park and the engine shut off. I tried this a few more times before I gave up. A tow came and first suggested it was the alternator, before another tow came and suggested it was a sensor. It has been at the dealer for 48 hours without a diagnosis, “maybe the injectors. ” I am fortunate this happened in a parking lot and not while I was on the road. I am now terrified to drive this car.
I was driving when the car stopped accelerating. Then I smelled something burning. I was able to pull over and saw smoke coming from my tailpipe. After that, the engine light came on. A warning came up on the display that said, multiple possible conditions have occurred with your vehicle.
I was sitting in a drive thru lane with automatic hold on tap the gas to move forward and vehicle shot forward into the vehicle ahead of me doing a lot of damage.
It’s not even an year I bought a 2022 Hyundai Tucson sel (convenience package). I started getting couple of issues. 1. I noticed that gears aren’t shifting smoothly and always ends whining between gear shifts. 2. Soundsystem started giving trouble since a week with unclear/distortion noises while playing music. I tried connecting via cable/bluetooth and changed to fm/usb but still the same. Worst experience for me. I hope Hyundai will help me by fixing the car.
The panoramic sunroof failed, shattering without any apparent impact while I was going 70mph on the interstate. Glass went everywhere. I was not near any other vehicles and the glass shattered outwards (this, according to Hyundai, is a hallmark trait of the sunroof failing without external cause -- note that they've previously had a recall for the same panoramic sunroof issue in another model car). My safety, and the safety of others, was put at risk due to the "exploding" glass, the speed at which the incident occurred, and the shock it caused me (the driver) while driving on the interstate. The problem has been confirmed by the Hyundai dealership that I bought the car from. They said they've had to repair multiple Hyundai vehicles with failing panoramic sunroofs at that dealership alone (apparently, this issue is most common in the santa fe model). Hyundai is covering the replacement and repair of the sunroof under the car's warranty. They stated that panoramic roofs "explode" due to pressure issues. After they told all this to me, they stated that they "think" something hit my roof, and sent me a picture of chipped glass behind the giant hole on my car's roof. Even if the sunroof failed because something hit it, it should not shatter in the way that it did (as the person driving the car at the time of the incident, there was nothing that hit the car).
Bought this car 11/22/21. The car just stopped in the middle of the road and won't run. This happened twice on 7/31/22 and 8/17/22. Dealer said on the first incident something fired or something but engine is okay. I am awaiting for the diagnosis of this second incident. For a new car, this shouldn't happen. I could have been rear ended today 8/17/22 if the car behind me came in a little faster and if I drove in the freeway. This is a safety issue. I want this car to be recalled before something very bad happens. You can recall a car but you cannot recall a lost of life.
Purchased vehicle new at dealership with less than 20 miles on it. No aftermarket parts, no accidents or issues. Normal daily conditions, and constant logging on fueleconomy. Gov. 08/17/2022 at 8:15 driving 45-55 mph on major freeway with a low/moderate traffic. Roughly 5 miles from home, good road conditions and good weather. Suddenly, automatic emergency braking system engaged (and related cluster lights/alarms displayed on dash). There was not a vehicle in front of me, and nearest vehicle in front was roughly 150 ft. Away. Emergency brakes engaged so forcefully that I was unable to keep my vehicle moving forward, and vehicle came to a complete stop in the left lane of major freeway. My vehicle instantly turned off (or "died") with the radio still playing, but nothing else on. Had to place the vehicle in park, push the start button, and place the vehicle in drive, in order to continue. Obviously very unexpected. Vehicle behind me had to slam on their brakes (tires squealed) and narrowly avoided hitting my vehicle by about 36-48 inches. I'm unsure how they managed to avoid not hitting me. Unfortunately, the vehicle behind that car could not avoid the maneuver, and hit the vehicle that was directly behind me. I do not know if the other vehicle had injured individuals, as I was trying to get out of the left lanes of the 5-lane freeway, coming from a complete stop. Essentially, my vehicle caused someone to hit the vehicle that was directly behind me. I placed my hazard lights on, immediately pushed bluelink button, but after two (2) times of inability to hear their voices because of breakup, I pushed sos. Ultimately drove directly to steele south loop Hyundai and informed them of incident. Per dealership, they were unable to duplicate the problem, and found no error codes. I am not afraid to drive my car, with only 5,500 miles on it. Requested for dealership to report to you, but do not believe they took me seriously, so I am doing this. Major safety hazard.
I am writing this letter to formally file a complaint regarding the defective sunroof on my brand-new 2022 Hyundai Tucson limited edition. I am a medical frontliner and I purchased my car on July 20, 2022. Eleven (11) days after I brought the car home, the sunroof spontaneously exploded, creating a huge crack that spanned the entire width of the car. In addition to that crack, I could see small fissures in the entire back panel of the sunroof. I am grateful that I was not in the car when this happened. It was only upon stopping at a restaurant that one of my passengers, who is tall enough to see the roof of the car, noticed the damage. Upon noticing the crack, I drove the car immediately to the dealership, where I was told that they found a small dent in the roof, which indicated a point of impact. The dealership manager then told me in no uncertain terms that because of this technicality, it was my fault and that there was nothing they could do to help me. In the 11 days that I have had the car, I have not parked under any trees, nor heard any noise that would have indicated an impact of any kind. Furthermore, the supposed point of impact was hairline and we don't understand how that could result in the entire back frame had a two-inch gap crack which runs the entire width of the back roof. I was really looking forward to driving my new Hyundai hybrid. I paid the deposit and waited approximately two months to get my vehicle, and after just 11 days, this happened. I thought that Hyundai would be able to help me, but I feel that they really did not investigate or try to help beyond the initial assessment which took them less than five minutes to conclude. The bottom line is that no car that is sold to the public should have these issues, and if there are multiple complaints of the same issue, the car manufacturer should recall all units and resolve any design or manufacturing issues before releasing them from the factory for sale.
