Car is a gas hybrid (not plugin). 3 occurrences over the last couple of months. Car emits a warning sound and a message on the dash says "check hybrid system. Stop safely". Basically right after this message the car starts losing power and stops. Doesn't matter if on freeway or not. You need to find a place to pull over or you stop traffic wherever you are. Looks like hybrid battery is completely drained. Can not be re-created. Dealer has it now for the 3rd time. Dealer in the past have not been able to find cause/cure since this issue is not posting any errors to the onboard diagnostic system. Temporary 'fix' is to power off car, and power back on. Looks like this is a 'known' issue though as its being reported by quite a few people online.
Bought the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. It was driving perfect no issues then I hit 52,000 miles and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle started sputtering and idling hard like it wasn’t getting fuel when the gas was pressed. I was on the interstate and the vehicle wouldn’t go over 35mph. Now the check engine light illuminates off and on when it feels like it.
I am dealing with this issue where I am getting fuel injector issue and getting cylinder 3 misfire and air fuel imbalance code. It comes and goes. I spent 1500 bucks flushing fuel system and replacing spark plugs and coil. But the issue is still there! I changed the battery and got it to dealership they said they could find the issue. I was on freeway going southbound near exit 34 when the car starts shaking and I lost acceleration.
When my wife was driving our car on the highway today to work, the car suddenly threw a "check hybrid system - pullover safely" light when she was at highway speeds. She was able to luckily pull over quickly onto the shoulder before the car completely powered down. This is incredibly dangerous. She had to click on the reset 12 volt hybrid battery button in the car to get it started again but the complete loss of power at highway speed was very upsetting.
I am submitting this complaint due to a potential safety-related engine failure that occurred while my vehicle was under dealership repair. My vehicle was dropped off at huffines Hyundai on October 2, 2025, for a fuel injector issue and has remained under the dealership’s exclusive possession since that date. I have not driven or had access to the vehicle after drop-off. During the repair process, I was informed by dealership staff that an injector was seized in the fuel rail and difficult to remove. Although the injector replacement was documented as a short repair, the work was delayed and completed on October 16, 2025. Immediately following this repair, on October 17, 2025, the engine was documented by the dealership as having low compression. I was not notified of this condition until October 27, 2025. The engine damage occurred while the vehicle was under dealership control and immediately following a repair involving seized components. The diagnostic documentation provided to me is incomplete and does not include compression psi values or supporting data. I am concerned that improper repair or handling may have caused internal engine damage, resulting in a condition that could lead to engine failure or unsafe operation. Due to the circumstances and lack of transparency, I do not feel the vehicle is safe to operate and am concerned about the risk of engine failure.
Fuel injector failure. Car was losing power completely when pressing the gas pedal then would suddenly catch and go again. Then go very slowly with little power, almost got into an accident because of the loss of acceleration. They replaced the fuel injectors and it is now happening a second time with the check engine light coming on again. A recall needs to be made! several of the same complaints on here!!!!!!!.
The vehicle is currently in the shop due to safety concerns involving malfunctioning exterior lighting and a serious incident of the vehicle entering limp mode. 1) with automatic headlights activated, all exterior lights shut off while driving at night, posing a significant safety risk. 2) during daylight hours, the automatic headlight system inconsistently toggles between different lamp settings, switching off and on erratically. 3) while attempting to turn left during morning rush hour traffic (on a 40 mph road where vehicles often travel 50+ mph), the vehicle entered limp mode upon acceleration. It bogged down in the middle of both lanes, unable to exceed 13 mph, placing me in a highly dangerous position. After pulling over and leaving the vehicle off for 5 minutes, the issue temporarily resolved upon restart. 4) the vehicle is stored in a garage, and following the limp mode incident, I received repeated “door unlocked” notifications every 30 minutes from 2:30 am to 5:30 am, though the vehicle had not been accessed. These issues are of serious concern and appear comparable to conditions outlined in recall #149 and recall #236, both of which address similar malfunctions related to exterior lighting and powertrain performance. VIN# currently is not within the recalls.
The fuel injectors failed on this vehicle, the vehicle’s engine light came on as I was driving and I took the car to the dealer where I purchased it from. The dealer told me. What the issue was and that they needed to keep the car because it was dangerous to drive.
The car keeps loosing power when it is over 90 degrees outside. On my way to work in the morning it has plenty of power but on my way home around 5 or 6 pm it struggles to gain speed. I’ve already had all the fuel injectors replaced so I don’t think it is related to that. It mainly happens when I slow down but not to a full stop around 20 mph. Then it struggles to accelerate after that.
Fuel injectors. It is available for inspection. (please!)this is the second failing of an engine, fuel or powertrain issue. The car was in motion and suddenly just lost power. The first time it occurred about a month after purchased brand new in 2022, the car was coming from a stop light into the middle of an intersection. Driver was thankfully able to glide to side of road since it was early morning and had it towed to dealership. Second time it happened approximately 2 1/2 years later may 29, 2025, the car once again lost engine power at an intersection. Driver, again ,was in a fortunate position to glide off road from a right turn lane. If driver had been in left lanes going speed (55) this would not have ended as well. The car would not restart. Car was towed to dealership. The dealership confirmed that this was a known issue and there was a TSB out. However, there are no kits available to fix it at the moment. And we have no time frame for getting our car back and they have not provided a loaner. The vehicle has only been inspected by the Hyundai dealership. There were absolutely no warnings before either incidents. However, once the car was in possession at the dealership, we received a phone call from Hyundai bluelink saying we had a powertrain issue, which did not make sense since our car had been sitting for two weeks unserviced. If this was related to the same issue they were at least two weeks late. Dealership did not confirm powertrain issue or how anything would be resolved.
While merging onto [xxx] in southington, CT, the vehicle would not accelerate past 25 mph which is very dangerous for merging onto an interstate highway. Luckily, my wife was able to safely pull over onto the shoulder. We shut the vehicle off for a minute, restarted it, and have had no problems since. There were no warnings, and no check engine indicator was displayed. I'll contact the dealer this month at a regular maintenance visit. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2022 to Hyundai tuscon now with the third cylinder misfire due to faulty fuel injector. This can be inspected upon request. Upon second occurrence, requested all cylinders be replaced and advised could not do this under warranty. Second filing to NHTSA. This incident put myself and other drivers at risk. I was driving on a highway and the cylinder misfire occurred resulting in check engine light and vehicle going into limp mode and inability to drive more than 30-40 mph. The entire vehicle violently shakes and loses power with this misfire. In the previous occurrences , could not accelerate beyond 20 mph. I could have been rear ended or caused a serious accident on the highway as a result of Hyundai faulty fuel injectors and cylinder misfires. My vehicle has now been seen 3x for the same issue and replaced by dealer. There were no warning signs prior to the failure of the fuel injector resulting in cylinder misfire and loss of power and inability to accelerate. This is a very dangerous faulty component of this year make and model- it is a known issue. Still no recall. I have a "new" car that puts me in danger every 4-6 months when I lose power in my vehicle with no warning or cause except from faulty parts. This faulty part is going to cause serious injuries/accidents if it is not addressed.
The safety alert system on the vehicle alerted us five different times that the vehicle needed to be parked and checked immediately due to a powertrain issue and each time we took it to the dealership because it is still under warranty at 47,984 mi. This last time they have had it for just over 3 weeks and said there are three or four of the same vehicle with the same issue that they are trying to get parts for. This is not coming up as a recall, but it has been an issue with safety because it tells us to immediately park the vehicle and it loses engine power when accelerating which is very dangerous for navigating traffic. Insurance has not been involved as it is on warranty and there has not been an accident because of this issue yet. Please look into this because we do believe there should be a recall on this model. I know other people who are having the same issue with the same type of vehicle but on the santa fe. The issue starts out where they say it's just a gas cap. But then switching out the gas cap doesn't fix the problem.
Within the first year of purchase, my power train system has beeb throwing codes. I took it to the dealership where they assured me nothing was wrong. My fuel injectors then gave out. The dealership replaced them and told me “yes these things are faulty and we see it a lot”. After replacing it, they did not seal the fuel injectors, causing gas to gush out and set my car to smoke. I was ill from inhaling gas fumes for days. They took accountability and said that the injectors were defective in the vehicles and that they would once again fix it. I am not experiencing further engine issues which they do not know how to diagnose. My car is a 2022 purchase from the lot. The engine is defective and Hyundai is negligent. They admitted they were aware of the injector issue but didn’t do much to correct this. After corrected, they almost had my car set on fire from fuel pouring on the engine.
At the end of may 2024 my car was diagnosed with a faulty fuel injector that caused sputtering and problems accelerating. I was driving on a busy freeway when my car began to shake and sputter and lose power. A check engine light came on when the car first started to shake and sputter. I was able to pull off the freeway but, in an area, where I was unfamiliar. I was able contact family nearby who assisted me in driving the car slowly to a Hyundai dealership about 15 miles away. This happened on a holiday weekend and I had to get a rental car as the dealership was unable to service the car for several days. The dealership diagnosed the car as having a faulty fuel injector and a new fuel injector was installed. On December 5, my car again started sputtering and shaking and had problems accelerating. It needed to be towed to a Hyundai dealership about 50 miles away from my home. I am currently waiting for them to diagnose the problem.
Dealership tried to fix vehicle multiple times and failed. Would be considered a lemon but is over 3 years old.
I’ve experienced repeated electrical and mechanical issues with my 2022 Hyundai Tucson hybrid. These include full battery drainage without engine activation (leaving me stranded), multiple warning lights, and recently a heater failure that remains unresolved. I’ve had over 8 service visits in two years, and Hyundai has not responded to my formal letter. A detailed timeline is available if needed.
Driving 78 mph on the highway, when the car stopped it accelerating, dropped to 67, pulled to shoulder. Car would not restart. Towed to dealer and was told the fuel injector failed and was flooded engine. Check engine came on with code dtc p030400 dtc system powertrain dtc sub system ems.
Vehicle has experienced, unexpected, slight and brief, acceleration 3 times at highway speeds up to 60 mph. The 4th incident was an uncontrolled acceleration when parking behind another parked vehicle. Car accelerated into the backend of parked vehicle. Operator was at a complete stop and needed to pull forward a few feet. They took foot off of brake and lightly pressed the gas peddle. The car unexpectedly surged forward hitting parked car. 1 day later we received an email from Hyundai blue link stating that "a possible condition with your engine control system has been detected" and recommends bringing in for service for a full system check. Both cars were damaged and tuscon had to be towed to a repair shop.
While driving the car the engine died, locking up both the gas and brake pedals. The car had to come to a stop on its own, my wife could not depress the gas or brake to stop the car. She was going through an intersection and narrowly avoided a major accident! the battery light came on, the check engine light and the car started to fill up with a smell of burning plastic and gas. When trying to turn the car back on after turning it off it would start with a major shake and bang then turn back off. All warning lights stayed on. Battery was fully charged still. Autobody shop found engine issues in their pre scan before sending it to Hyundai to warranty it as it only has 6,626 miles and is 2 years old. There was a warning of low battery while we were on vacation and the car was sitting for a few days. And a sluggish start when it sat for few days like the battery was low, but it wasn’t based on the volt meter.
I have a cylinder misfire related to known issues with this product and any dealership affiliated with warranty work are months out, there are no backup vehicles and Hyundai will not take any action until they are diagnosed. We have no backup vehicle and my wife was almost hit. There was sudden power loss of the vehicle and it is a safety concern. No reimbursement for rentals or alternate solutions provided.
Car lost power as I was entering fast traffic area. Acceleration became unresponsive and vehicle came to halt. Would not move there after. Had it occurred a few seconds later I would’ve found myself unable to accelerate in an acceleration lane, or shortly after merging potentially causing injury to myself and others. After getting the issue diagnosed by Hyundai it is apparently a faulty fuel injectors. Researching online, this appears to be a known problem for the 2022 Hyundai Tucson with many claiming they were left stranded on highways, at intersections and during snow fall. In general this issue makes owners fearful to drive their cars. Apparently, this may be caused by a bad batch of injectors but to my knowledge Hyundai only replaces known bad injectors instead of replacing all injectors from the faulty batch. Due to this many experience multiple failures in short periods in short periods of time, increasing risk of safety incidents. My vehicle’s failed at approximately 22k miles but others have reported failures much sooner.
The hybrid system flashes "check hybrid system" then the check engine and check hev lights are illuminated. The vehicle loses power and even with the gas pedal pushed firmly to the floor the engine isn't producing power. This is a safety issue because I've lost power while driving on busy roads and can't clear the intersection, etc. This was reproduced at the dealership and Hyundai is performing a warranty replacement of the "hybrid system". I wanted to make NHTSA aware of the issue because on the Hyundai forums I'm seeing similar reports made. There is an open campaign to update the software for the hybrid system, 9b4, but this software update did not fix the issue.
Repeat unusual noise related to the transmission when making a right turn in warmer weather at slow speed.
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the hybrid powertrain system, transmission, or engine appears to be malfunctioning. The vehicle hesitates or stalls when pressing the gas, losing power as if it doesn’t recognize when to transition between ev and gas mode. Yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the issue caused the vehicle to lose power unexpectedly, particularly while driving at highway speeds, which forced me to pull over multiple times for safety reasons. This happened on [xxx] before the [xxx] tunnel, creating a hazardous situation in heavy traffic. If the vehicle stalled at the wrong moment—such as in an intersection or while merging—it could significantly increase the risk of a crash. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no. I have taken the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership, but no official errors or diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) have been detected. The dealership has not confirmed the issue unless I agree to high-cost diagnostics that may not guarantee a resolution. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? the vehicle has been looked at by a Hyundai dealership, but no official findings or resolutions have been provided. The issue persists, and no recall or technical service bulletin (TSB) has been mentioned to me as a possible cause. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warning lights, error messages, or dashboard alerts appeared before or during the power loss. The issue first started occurring at approximately 35,000–40,000 miles and has continued to around 50,000 miles. The first time I noticed the problem was during a long-distance drive from los angeles to CO information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while attempting to drive through a yellow light, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. The same failure occurred soon after while on a highway ramp. The contact attempted to merge onto the highway, but the vehicle failed to accelerate with the accelerator pedal depressed to the floorboard. The contact pulled off to the shoulder of the highway and restarted the vehicle; the vehicle resumed normal operation after the engine restart. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was made to have the vehicle serviced. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The vehicle had was not repaired. The failure mileage was 32,340.
While driving, my vehicle suddenly lost all power and didn't respond to the accelerator. The "check engine" and "hybrid system failure" lights came on, jeopardizing my safety and that of other road users. The car overheats significantly, to the extent that the air conditioning only blows hot air. This situation forced me to pull over on the highway shoulder, creating an additional risk for everyone involved in traffic.
Transmission wouldn’t shift. Tried to accelerate from stopping at a stop sign and car wouldnt get up to speeds. Car shuttered when it tried to. The auto shut off light turned orange. No codes or check engine light came on. Shut car off and turned on and problem went away. Nobody has inspected it as it has not reproduced the problem. Several online forums state that I am not the only one to have this issue. Luckily this didnt happen on the highway otherwise that would have been very dangerous trying to merge on a highway.
This is the third time I had issues with my 2022 Hyundai Tucson losing power, being unable to accelerate, and/or completely losing power and stopping. I already created an nhsta report/complaint when the first incident occurred 11 months ago (NHTSA id number: 11507213). Since then, the issue occurred twice (has 33,000 miles & always maintained). I am a professional female in my 60's. The 2nd time was at night Nov 2, 2023; I was on my way to a program for work, car decelerated. I could navigate, with great distress and frustration to a side street where the car shut off completely. I contacted my husband, my supervisor (who delayed the program start for a few minutes, then began without me), Hyundai blue link and aaa. My supervisor sent someone to pick me up so I could be present at the program and make my presentation. A colleague returned me to my failed vehicle. I called aaa for an update on the tow, which I was told would not be for another several hours after midnight. My colleague drove me home (16. 5 miles one way: my husband was even further away) as I would have again been alone in my vehicle at night (without heat). This third time (Jan 2024), I used the climate start for at least 12 minutes before driving. The car never gained acceleration above 19 mph, occurring immediately. I thought it was just a cold engine that would dissipate as I drove, but it didn't. Since I could not get the engine to accelerate, I could not get heat. It was as though the engine was draining all the functions of the vehicle. There were no cars in front of me, but several drivers behind me were very angry; amazingly, no accident occurred. Finally drove to dealer, called uber, and was late to work again! purchased my Tucson after engine issues with my Hyundai sante fe. Both purchased new with many extended warranties, assuming I'd have a safe and reliable vehicle. Car still at dealer (10 days). Is Hyundai ignoring safety and significant hazards over sales and profits?.
While driving uphill, the car lost power, beginning to spurt and stalling. Then the car was not able to accelerate while car kept spurting and stopping. It was a dangerous situation as this happened while we were driving, in the middle of the road, while going uphill. Thankfully it was at night and there were no cars behind us but if there was we would have clashed into it. Towed the vehicle to the dealership and was informed that the same year Tucson came in the night before with similar problems. It appears that there is a pattern to this safety concern. Please take action before someone gets hurt. Car shutting off like this while driving poses safety concerns for drivers and all the people around it. Even with fix, I don't feel safe driving unless I see actions taken by Hyundai to solve this apparent issue with powertrain/engine.
We fist noticed a problem with the car having a hard time accelerating and a hard shift at 25-35 mph back at the end of November. We then got a check engine light that came on that said p013a00 powertrain. We brought it to the dealership the first week of December and were told that the transmission just needed an update. Upon taking the car home it was better for about a week then the issue came back sporadically. Then on March 20th my wife was driving the car and it would not accelerate past 35 mph while getting onto the interstate. Cars were going by her at 70+mph as she sat there helplessly pressing the accelerator. Eventually she got the car up to 50 mph but it would not go any faster. We brought it into the dealership that day and once again they said the transmission needed an update. I then contacted Hyundai corporate and submitted a complaint and they started a case for the issue. After the second time at the dealership the car was ok for a week and then started with the same issues. After taking it to several other dealerships they all tell me that it’s a transmission issue that they don’t know how to fix but they change what they say once Hyundai corporate talks with them. Presently the car will have very high rpm and jump forward almost colliding with cars in front. It will also not accelerate such as the peddle is on the floor and the rpms are high but the car will barely move until it shifts gears and jumps forward.
Car lost ability to accelerate and was shuddering for the second time. My personal code reader pulls up codes p0191 and p0303. Engine misfire. Second time since june28,2023. Bought the Hyundai Tucson brand new in December of 2021. First time car lost acceleration and was shuddering on the interstate with my toddler son and pregnant wife stranded. The second time was tonight, October 30th, 2023. I was in the car with my still pregnant wife and toddler son.
I purchased a Hyundai Tucson 2022 in November 2022 and ive been having great issues with the vehicle since. Ive had to bring the car in over 3 times in less than 2 years for powertrain issues. The first was in oct 2023, then Nov 2023, followed by Jun 2024. Today is engine light is back on and the diagnostic code is saying powertrain. The car misfires and there is little or no acceleration. This happened on the highway more than once and I was terrified. Also the car does this jerky shaking thing. When I spoke to the dealer about it they made it seem like an uncommon issue but after doing my research, there are lot of complaints about similar situations.
On 10/17/23 I was driving about 55 mph up a hill when the vehicle began to decelerate rapidly and would not accelerate. The vehicle was shaking and jerking and would not go over 34 mph. I was fortunately in the right lane and was able to make a right turn into a long merge lane. I turned off the car and tried to start again, and it began shaking uncontrollably while making a strangled noise. I pressed on the gas and smoke began to exit the exhaust. I turned the vehicle off again. I waited about another 5 minutes to try to start the vehicle and was met with the same scenario as above. This time, all the lights on the dashboard turned on; car battery, engine, oil, etc. The brake pedal was also locked up, unable to depress to put the car in neutral. Had the car towed to the dealership and the service advisor indicated it was most likely the fuel injector. He started the vehicle and the same strangled sound and shaking started. The cabin quickly filled with the smell of gasoline. The service advisor stated that it would take maybe a week or more before the vehicle could even be seen as all service centers in the area were understaffed and backed up. No rental/loaner car is allowed to be issued until the car is diagnosed by the technicians. Earlier in the day, the bluelink app was not functional to remotely start the vehicle. Attempted to remote start the vehicle from two devices, no success. Called bluelink and the rep had me delete and redownload the app, reset the system in the car by pressing the small reset button, and even tried to send a remote start request from her end and was unsuccessful. She stated a ticket for further assistance is needed. On 10/19/23, the bluelink app notified me of an issue in the car: dtc p030200 powertrain. I have read other reports of this occurring in this vehicle. Huge safety issue, especially when on highways. Still waiting on Hyundai to service the call. I hope all fuel injectors are replaced instead of one.
While driving the check engine light comes on and the car loses power and starts running very ruff and almost stalls at times. This is the second time this has happen in 3 months, last time they replaced a fuel injector. I look up the problem and it seams to be common problem with the 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
