Warnings problem #1

My son was backing out of a parking spot at a strip mall. He released some pressure on the brake and indicated that the car lurched backwards and even though he reapplied full pressure to the brakes, he hit the car at the curb resulting in damage to our Tucson, but luckily not the to the other car. The rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist system did not engage, but my son indicated that the rear distance warning system did beep. I am concerned due to the sudden acceleration/lurching incident my son experienced and this is not acceptable in any car. I ask the NHTSA to see if other Hyundai Tucson or kia sportage owners, especially with the hybrid engine are experiencing this.

Back Over Prevention problem #2

The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that on three occasions while the vehicle was in park(p), the vehicle failed to shift into the intended gear. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear-view sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, while at a car wash the rear hatch opened inadvertently. On another occasion, while driving approximately 65 mph, the emergency automatic braking display light was illuminated, and the vehicle slowed down inadvertently. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 500.

Rearview System Braking problem #3

I was backing out of my driveway, which is on a busy street. I waited for the traffic to clear. I backed out onto the main road, which I thought was completely clear, but a car came behind me and I smacked right into him. There was no beeping from my car, and the automatic braking system did not engage at all. The rear of my car, particularly the driver's side, was severely damaged. The other car's passenger front door was badly damaged. The side curtain airbag on their car deployed and their vehicle (Volvo station wagon) was not driveable. The emergency braking system frequently engages unexpectedly when I back out of my driveway, even when there is no hazard. The unexpected braking is oftentimes dangerous. However, this time, when I needed it, it did not engage. An outside diagnostic inspection was done on the vehicle, and showed "no event. " if you saw the cars involved in the accident, it is clear there was a significant "event. ".
