Automatic Emergency Braking problems of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Issue has happened twice now, about 2 months apart. Driving at highway speeds, 60-75 mph, no other cars around, no reason for braking or stopping, the emergency brake comes up for a few seconds, abruptly slowing the car down for no reason. Very scary as the car starts to slow down from a high speed, very jolting. I've complained to Hyundai but they claim they are not aware of the issue and there are no codes the vehicle puts out so they cant investigate further without replicating the issue, but its random and you don't know when its happening. I've looked online and it appears there are quite a bit of 2023/2024 Tucson's that are having the exact same issue I am.

All of a sudden my 2024 Tucson gages indicated emergency braking for about 1 to 3 seconds and the front end went down as though I was stopping (scared me ). I was so happy no one was behind me. No one really behind me or to my left. Only one car to the right of me in another lane. Also, had to replace air bag at 6176 miles.

Forward collision emergency braking. Have had this happen on 5 different occasions. Very dangerous. The vehicle without warning slams on the emergency brakes and issues a warning. Took into dealer and they could find no error codes and did nothing. First time this happened I thought maybe a bag or something flew up and obscured the forward facing sensors. Pulled over and checked nothing. Then 3 times it happened within 5 minutes. Pulled over and sensors looked fine no dirt or anything on the sensors. Can not drive car with this and so have been disabling the system except for a warning tone. Today it activated it again. Usually when I approach something the sensors turn yellow and then red when getting real close to an object. But today when it activated when not close to anything and driving down the road all the forward sensors activated with the warning but it was gray. (not yellow or red) since I had it on warning only the brakes did not activate. This is very dangerous and unless you disable the automatic emergency braking could lead someone to plow into the backend of the SUV and it evidentially does not cause error codes. Yes,someone can contact me concerning this. This has happened multiple times. Intermittently.

My car automatically braked in the middle of an intersection and caused my vehicle to be rear-ended. This was the third time automatic braking engaged when it should not have been. In the most recent incident on 30jan2025 I was injured and had to have medical attention. I googled automatic braking and there were many reports of automatic braking being deployed when it should not have been.

While driving in light traffic, speed at 45 mph, my Tucson alerted me with a beep, steering wheel vibrated and a red alert on the dash was present for about 3 seconds then the speed automatically slows down to 15 mph all on its own while my foot is still on the accelerator. This has occurred at a minimum 6 times. I purchased this vehicle brand new and driving it off the lot it had 22 miles on it. I've taken it to a Hyundai dealership, and they can't figure out what it wrong with it. I feel very unsafe and unhappy now of this major safety concern. This has high probability of getting rear ended. I see that this has been occurring with various years of Hyundai and am wondering why there has not been a recall on this issue. I owned a Hyundai prior to this 2024 (tucson 2011) and it was wonderful. This is highly concerning for me, and I am not confidant driving this vehicle and will more than likely trade it in for another vehicle. Can someone please research this issue with the automatic emergency brake system. This can autonomously go off whether you are in traffic, highway, street or completely zero vehicles or pedestrians around.

While driving n on hwy 75 in dallas, I was traveling at posted speed- 70- in the 2nd of 4 lanes when I was passed on either side by cars 10-15 mph faster than me. They passed almost exactly at the same time. This confused the cars auto breaking feature. The lane ahead was clear for over 100 yrds. My car braked hard and beeped a warning. There was no reason for the car to do this. This is the 3rd time the car has braked on the hwy when it was not necessary. Previously, I assumed road trip bugs on the censor caused the issue, that could not have been the cause this time. This is also a concern because the spyware in the car is sold to insurance companies apparently, as bad driving behavior which may affect my rates.

On Aug. 23rd, I was driving on the highway at 70mph when the emergency braking system deployed. The dashboard warning light flashed and the brakes were applied for approximately 3 seconds, and then the car returned to normal. This occurred 3 times in the span of 18 miles. At no time was there ever a vehicle directly in front of my car. Fortunately I wasn't being followed closely by another vehicle, or there would have been an accident. I took the car into the dealer and was told that they would run a diagnostic, which they did. They also drove the car for 3 miles. They were not able to replicate the problem, and found all codes to be normal. I feel like this car is an accident waiting to happen.

Sudden hard breaking for no reason. It's happened 3 times when in cruise control. If a car had been close behind it would have caused a wreck. I've had the vehicle just over a month.

While driving my 2024 Hyundai tuscon limited, 55 mph in left lane on highway, with no cars directly in front of me and only one car alongside me in the right lane, my emergency braking red warning light suddenly came on as the car abruptly braked hard for no apparent reason. Within several seconds, I regained control of the car. Luckily there wasn't a car closely following me, which thankfully probably averted a collision. I have since made an appointment with the dealer from whom I purchased the car and am awaiting the results of their inspection of the car.

While my husband was driving on the freeway and I was a passenger in the front seat, the automatic emergency braking employed while we were driving about 70mph. We have no idea why. There was no cars breaking around us, and no reason for it. There was plenty of space between us and the car in front of us. The car behind us had to swerve to the other lane to avoid rear ending us. My husband had to grab hold of the steering wheel hard with both hands as the sudden breaking made our car swerve to the side. It was terrifying. Then about 5 seconds after his happened, it happened again.

My Tucson is applying automatic emergency break without a reason. It happened to me 3 times in a week with my Tucson hybrid 2024 nline, it was scary and I was on freeway at 70+mph and couldn't capture the warning as it popped out for only 3 sec. I see no cars around when this happened and when I checked few forums I see this as a common problem in Hyundai vehicles in recent times and feeling scared. I was lucky enough last week as there is not vehicle behind me when breaks applied automatically.

Emergency breaking went on without any traffic around while driving on freeway. The car put the breaks on and took control of the steering. Lasted about 10 to 15 seconds.

My vehicle has been malfunctioning with the automatic emergency brake. A total of 5 times. I am driving down the road going around 50-65 mph I am the only one in my vehicle and all of the sudden it puts the emergency brake on. It’s like someone else takes over my vehicle. Fortunately I have not been rear ended. Nobody has been in front of me when this happens the first time. It is not linked to or to be confused with the collision warning, it is wholly the emergency braking system that is put on with the light stating this & throws me forward into the steering wheel. I towed my vehicle into the bakersfield Hyundai shop & they have been unable to duplicate my problem with the vehicle. I have lost all confidence in my vehicle due to it has done it a total of 5 times and I just got it in September 2023. It has been in the shop for this month. Was taken to them by tow truck on 2/7/24. Was told by tow truck driver that I would be in body bag if it happened again especially in front of a diesel truck. This is either a first of a major recall or a lemon car. Either way not wanting to get in it again. Needs to be addressed and they can’t do anything about it. I do not have any pictures of my vehicle due to it is an internal issue but I do have the paperwork from the dealership shop.

I was driving home on christmas day 2023 in my 4 month old 2024 Hyundai Tucson hybrid. An hour into my 4 hour drive my car began making a low whump whump sound. No alerts or alarms came on my display to indicate anything was wrong. The noise was off and on for a couple miles. Suddenly my emergency brakes slammed on, my dash went red and the alarms went off. No one was in front of or around me. Had someone been behind me I would have been rear-ended. This was while I was going approximately 75-80. It could have caused a massive wreck had the freeway been congested. The noise went away after that and I made the rest of my trip without incident. The dealer said they couldn't replicate it and the analysis showed nothing was wrong so there is nothing they can do. I have found web forums and a reddit thread with numerous people complaining about the exact same issue with their newer Hyundais. So far a lemon lawyer seems to be the only recourse.
