Hyundai Tucson owners have reported 694 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Tucson based on all problems reported for the Tucson.
While driving on the expressway my car hit a bump and all the power from the vehicle was lost. I’ve been having issues with my car and have taking it to Hyundai dealership. Everytime I take it they are saying my car is fixed. But it’s not. Now they are saying they didn’t fix it because I didn’t explain the problem to them. I lost control driving high speeds. Thankfully the power returned. When I tell hyuandai in naperville what happened they said it’s not their responsibility because I didn’t say it was electrical. I told them I didn’t know I had a an electrical problem. I thought that if I take my car in they would tell me the problem.

Horn on vehicle consistently goes out. Either goes out entirely or the volume of the horn is below a safe level. This is a known Hyundai issue and Hyundai refuses to acknowledge it on this specific model, but has acknowledged it on different models. I have had multiple repairs by Hyundai directly, and the horn consistently keeps going out. There are sometimes in dangerous situations where I need to utilize the horn to avoid an accident and warn other drivers of danger, and I am unable to do so, and it causes dangerous driving situations. This is a known defect on multiple Hyundai vehicles in this year, but the Tucson is one of the few vehicles they will not call a voluntary recall on and NHTSA needs to be notified about this and act accordingly as a regulatory body to protect consumers and people on the road.

The 2019 Tucson has 60,413 miles. My daughter drives it very low mileage - a couple of miles a day back and forth to school. Friday she was driving and the car lost engine power and it stopped driving. No warning lights. There was a cloud of smoke and it smelled like burning plastic. She was on a busy road but pulled over and quickly exited the vehicle. I had it towed and the mechanic says the engine oil was empty and the engine has seized. We do regularly scheduled oil changes. No lights or warnings and the car just stopped in traffic.

While idling at a standstill (in a drive-thru queue), my 2018 Hyundai Tucson suddenly experienced a severe engine overheat, causing the vehicle's air conditioning system to immediately blow hot air and shut down. The vehicle was brought directly to an authorized Hyundai dealership (chapman Hyundai on [xxx]) for an emergency inspection. The dealership's certified technicians confirmed that the electric engine cooling fan assembly completely failed and subsequently caused the main front wiring harness and fuse box to physically melt. The dealership documented this catastrophic electrical and thermal meltdown under repair order #xxx. This is a critical safety defect. A melted engine wiring harness poses an immediate and severe risk of an electrical short circuit, sudden vehicle stalling in live traffic, or a catastrophic under-hood engine fire. Because this component controls the primary cooling of the powertrain, its failure creates an extreme hazard to the vehicle occupants and surrounding traffic. Hyundai must investigate this component failure before it results in a thermal fire incident or an accident due to sudden power loss. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I received a letter in March that there is a problem with the tow hitch harness accessory which could lead to a fire etc. They said they will come out with a repair. I contacted the victory Hyundai dealership in jefferson ohio where I got the car in April and they said they have a repair but the trailer electrical/ lights will not work. I got a second letter saying they have a solution for repair in may I contacted classic Hyundai twice to make sure the repair now will allow the lights and brakes on the trailer work. Julie and jesica there said all would be fixed and the lights and break lights will work. I brought the car there June 5th 2026 and asked again if all would work. Lyna there said no. I left. I called u-hall streetsboro ohio and talked to bill who handles the hitch repairs and they said they could fix totally and have for some dealerships. I called Hyundai customer service kyre and asked if Hyundai in streetsboro ohio can be set up to have it repaired. He said no. He would not document his response to me. I bought this car with their factory installed hitch because I needed one to pull my boat and move other stuff. My lawn tractor broke down and I have to pay $135 to have it towed for repair. I am unable to fish in my boat since I can not pull it. There is a repair that will work at u-haul and they are ignoring it. They want to make the hitch unusable. Uhaul will fix for $250-$350. If they disconnect the hitch electrical and the car is sold the new owner can get into an accident since they would have no lights and break lights, turn signal. This is a high risk for an accident. They intend to eliminate the fire risk and create an accident risk for the trailer now not working. What kind of engineers they have?? they should be contacted about this situation. It has been several months with no solution when one exists. I have had multiple Hyundais and will no longer purchase another vehicle from them. You should communicate with them on this issue.
I received a recall notice around January 2026 for the trailer hitch wiring harness on my 2023 Hyundai Tucson hybrid. For 6 months the local dealer told me there was no fix available from Hyundai. I finally received a notice informing me that parts were now available and to bring it in to dealer for repairs. I took the vehicle in for recall repairs on may 27, 2026. Instead of repairing/replacing the wiring harness, Hyundai removed the entire wiring harness making the trailer hitch which I use for my business inoperable legally. When I noticed the wiring harness missing several days later, the dealer said that was Hyundai's "fix" for the recall issue. I contacted Hyundai USA customer service who also told me that removing the wiring harness and replacing it with an inexpensive dust cover was the fix. They told me that sometime in the future there will be another recall to have the wiring harness replaced. In the meantime, they have taken my vehicle VIN off the open recall list, since it has been "fixed". Hyundai sold me a vehicle with a trailer hitch and now they have without my permission or prior knowledge disabled it.
My 2022 Hyundai tuscon came to a complete stop on the highway in colorado twice in the last 2 months for no apparent reason. There weren't any obstacles or cars in front of me that would have caused the car to brake suddenly. I had passengers in the car and we were jolted forward. The air bags did not inflate and we were not hit from behind, but we could have been severely injured or killed. There are numerous "phantom braking" reports like this here on the NHTSA site for the 2022 model as well as more recent models. Yet Hyundai has only issued recalls for the 2025 and 2026 models. How are you addressing this issue?.

The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while in reverse, several warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel, and the vehicle suddenly reversed without depressing the accelerator pedal and crashed into a light post. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries sustained. The contact sought medical attention after being overwhelmed by the experience. A police report was not filed. The contact was able to drive the vehicle, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the front-view camera was updated; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to imperial body shop to repair the body damage. After the software update was performed, the contact became aware that the vehicle failed to turn off immediately, and several attempts were needed to turn off the vehicle. On another occasion, the contact was able to turn off the vehicle; however, the engine continued to run. Several attempts were needed to turn off the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer opened a case for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,500.

On 5/14/2026, while driving southbound on I-95 with my pregnant wife and young daughter, my 2025 Hyundai Tucson (approx. 7,500 miles, purchased new 10/2025) experienced multiple critical safety failures. Two days prior, the heads-up display (hud) intermittently failed to activate. On 5/14, traveling at 65-70 mph near [xxx] , the brakes auto-applied without driver input. Simultaneously, the instrument cluster and hud went completely black, eliminating all speed and vehicle status information. This recurred intermittently. Near [xxx] , the brakes auto-applied with full force, locking all four tires and bringing the vehicle from approx. 70 mph to a complete stop on the active interstate. Two trailing vehicles spun out and left the travel lane to avoid rear-ending us. A multi-car pileup was narrowly avoided. The vehicle was taken to pearson Hyundai in midlothian, va. They diagnosed and replaced a faulty wiring harness. Immediately after the repair, driving northbound on I-95 back to [xxx] (5/16), the lane keep assist/lane departure system began pulling the steering wheel into the adjacent lane without driver input, repeatedly and unpredictably at highway speed. The dealer repair did not resolve the all defects. Within a three days this vehicle exhibited: (1) total instrument cluster/hud failure, (2) uncommanded emergency braking at 70 mph causing two other vehicles to take evasive action (3) uncommanded steering input into an adjacent lane. These failures created immediate risk of serious injury or death. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The issue involves the vehicle’s drivetrain and hybrid/electronic control system, where the car suddenly jerked forward in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway as if it had been struck from behind. Immediately following this event, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 40 mph, indicating a loss of normal power. This created a significant safety risk, as the sudden jerking could have led to a rear-end collision, and the inability to accelerate properly made it difficult to keep up with traffic on the freeway. I was barely able to safely pull off the freeway while surrounding traffic continued at higher speeds, increasing the risk to myself and other drivers. The problem appeared to resolve after turning the vehicle off and then back on; however, this raises concern about intermittent failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealership for inspection, but they were unable to reproduce or identify the issue. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has been inspected by a dealer but not by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lights, messages, or noticeable symptoms indicating an issue. Based on similar reported experiences, this event may be consistent with a “limp mode” condition or a malfunction in the transition between the electric motor and gasoline engine, potentially involving the transmission or hybrid control system.
The cars speedometer screen and radio screen go black and sometimes flicker on and off. This makes it impossible to see the speed. Also the car stalls sometimes when this happens in traffic. The autonomous braking applies the brakes even when there is a large distance from other cars and objects to the point where it has almost caused me to get into an accident on numerous occasions. The driver attention alert comes on and off over and over again even though I’m fully focused on driving and well aware of what is going on and this sometimes happens in a sequence where all of the warning lights illuminate on dash. Sometimes all of the warning lights display on cluster after it goes black and then car says to shift to park when display goes back on causing safety concerns for me in traffic. In addition my sunroof glass is making a loud noise like it’s going to crack.
The instrument cluster intermittently goes completely black while driving, causing loss of the speedometer, warning lights, and gear indicator. The failure occurs randomly, including while the vehicle is in motion. The symptoms match the known 2026 Hyundai instrument?cluster recall, but my VIN is not currently included.
Took vehicle to dealership and had it diagnosed for the electrical system faults cause all the dashboard warning lights came on. Shop said it could be bad vacuum pump.

Vehicle stalled approximately 15 times between April 17 and may 4, 2026, including once on interstate xxx at approximately 50mph with minor children ages [xxx] and [xxx] in the vehicle. The oil and battery lights illuminated simultaneously at each stall. Diagnosed as abs module failure first, then left front wheel speed sensor failure on the 2nd occasion, both confirmed by a Hyundai dealership. Multiple warning lights illuminated, including check blind spot and anti lock brake system messages on the dashboard but no error codes following the 2nd repair. The vehicle has been inspected and repaired twice by the manufacturer’s dealership with a 3rd repair currently pending as of may 11, 2026. An open case has been filed with Hyundai motor America regarding this issue. Issue remains unresolved and the vehicle is still at the dealership. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The car was backing out of a driveway in reverse. Came to a stop to shift to drive, and recieved a "shift system malfunction! service immediately" screen message and the car was locked in the middle of the roadway unable to be put into any gear or be turned off. It was a huge roadway safety issue. The tow driver had to search for a code or sequence of commands to put it into neutral to be able to be safely lifted onto the tow bed, and the vehicle was stuck in accessory mode, which effectively drained the battery.
The display screen for the instrument cluster goes off for 3 seconds every 1 or 2 minutes. It leaves me without a speedometer, side safety cameras, or vehicle information.
Vehicle began flashing check driver assistance for rear sensors repeatedly while traveling out of state on March 30th with an occasional flash of check awd/4wd. On March 31st the vehicle flashed the warnings along with a variety of others flashing on the infotainment screen rapidly and shut off while driving. I was barely able to restart to get it safely into a parking lot before it shut down completely without restarting. The vehicle was towed to the Hyundai dealership that it was purchased from. The diagnostics show electrical and safety systems issues. The dealership and Hyundai USA has been less than transparent regarding a repair plan and potential completion date. It is currently April 21st with no end in sight. The vehicle feels completely unsafe to me and I regret the purchase wholeheartedly.
There has been an urgent safety recall with no fix for 4 months. I need the issue to be resolved so that my vehicle is no longer a safety hazard, but both the dealership I purchased it from and the manufacturer have stated that it's not a big deal.

Vehicle has failed to start with no warning lights (completely blank infotainment screen) and no sounds when start button is pressed. Vehicle also completely shuts down when stopping in traffic and takes several attempts at restarting before the vehicle actually starts and able to move. This is a severe life threatening or serios injury situation that Hyundai seems to have no interest in solving. Incidents have been video when safety is not an issue.
All dash warning lights are on and dash lights have a intermittent bright light surge. Hard to shut off engine and have to disconnect battery for electric power to shut off. Very noticeable hesitation in acceleration starting to drive.
On March 21st, while driving my Hyundai vehicle, I noticed the vehicle began making a ticking sound. After stopping the vehicle, it slowly began catching on fire. The fire ultimately spread and resulted in the vehicle becoming a total loss. This created a serious safety concern and placed me at risk. I later learned there was a recall associated with the vehicle. However, I never received any recall notices because Hyundai reportedly had the wrong address on file. Had I been properly notified of the recall and potential safety risks, I would have done everything in my power to ensure the vehicle was inspected, repaired, and safe to drive. Because I was unaware of the recall issue, the vehicle continued to be operated without my knowledge of the potential danger. The incident caused significant financial and transportation hardship, including loss of reliable transportation and additional financial strain. Hyundai later reached a determination regarding the matter, but I remain concerned about the serious safety risk and the fact that I did not receive proper recall notification before the incident occurred. I am submitting this complaint because I believe the recall notification process and handling of this matter should be reviewed further due to the serious safety risk involved.
On March 13, 2026, I was operating my 2015 Hyundai Tucson when the steering locked up, causing me to crash into a tree head-on. In the course of this head-on crash, my airbags failed to deploy. As a direct result of my airbags not deploying in a serious car crash, my head hit the steering wheel, causing a confirmed concussion diagnosis of post traumatic headache and post concussion syndrome in a hospital emergency room. There were no lights or symbols on the dashboard prior to the accident. My car had a prior repair for a front end collision in a body shop and a replacement of the engine in a Hyundai dealership prior to the accident. My car is currently in a tow yard. There has been no inspection of my car by the manufacturer. I have since discovered that there are a number of complaints filed with the national highway traffic safety administration ("NHTSA") from other Hyundai Tucson owners for the model years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2019, and 2023 complaining of the same defect in their Hyundai Tucsons – the failure of the airbags to deploy in serious car accidents. I believe this represents a systemic safety defect in the Hyundai Tucson airbag system that has not been addressed for the 2015 model year. This failure put my safety at serious risk and resulted in significant injuries that could have been prevented had the airbag system functioned as designed.

The car is dead if you do not drive it every 4 days. The battery and system have no power. It has happened multiple times over the past year. Have taken the car to castle Hyundai of downers grove, IL. To date no resolution has been reached wh6 my car looses power. The dealer ran computer checks. Verified the battery had to be reset multiple times. Could not identify any issues with battery or hev system. Contacted Hyundai. Support stated their technical specialist conclusion waste make sure I drive the car for a half hour every other day. That was their "resolution". A car should be able to sit in a garage under normal temperatures for longer than 4 days without the battery system being dead for unknown reasons. The car is unreliable and does not meet safety standards as if they don't know why it's battery system is dead if it sits what to say it won't happen when I am driving down the highway.
The touchscreen is not reposnive to touch except in one tiny corner. We’re reported this at thw Hyundai dealership at least three times over the years- they said “they can’t see a problem”, which is odd because the screen literally does not respond to touch. When it’s hot, even with the ac on full blast, sometimes we will be driving and the touchscreen starts making beeps and starts going into the settings menu all on its own without being touched, and starts randomly changing settings. Or, we will connect a phone with google maps, and the screen will randomly change to something else or a different view. This is a dangerous distraction, and Hyundai has refused to acknowledge this problem. The screen is unusable, we are forced to use our phones to use navigation directions just to be safe in our own car. This has been an issue starting in 2023 and to this day has been persistent. We have done both hard and soft resets to ni avail. We have also reported, on going to the dealership, that the screen says to update- they have never provided any update or instructions on how to update, even though every time we go to the Hyundai maintenance we are there for at least two hours or more.
After 3 months and 840 miles, my 2026 Hyundai Tucson wouldn't respond one morning. No power at all, including to unlock the car. Road side assistance struggled to jump out but finally the car started, but the cluster panel would not turn on. I had to drive to the dealership with no speedometer or other screen sensors, as well as a lack of blinker or lights. This is outrageous because I barely drive the car and it's brand new.
Wife was driving car and the steering locked up and she could not turn it for about 5 seconds. Second issue was put it in reverse and it would not come out of reverse, she had to turn car off and on 3 times to get it to put it in park or drive. I ran this through my claude ai and it says this is an ongoing problem with the Hyundai Tucson. Please make them fix this before selling anymore vehicles as both are major safety hazards.
The vehicle has a difficult time turning over when cranking, the rpms are sticking and the car periodically shuts off at red lights. Several warning lights pop up when it won't crank and then other warnings when the car just completely shuts off at red lights. I drive the interstate in [xxx] daily for work, so with the engine stalling my safety is at risk every time I drive it. Likewise when it won't crank, my safety is at risk. I had two Hyundai recalls updated in my car in 2022, Hyundai recall 209 which was a connecting rod bearing test and my car passed so they installed the other Hyundai recall 966 which was software update for the knock sensor detection system to alert the driver of future issues. Those issues are now current. The software is detecting a critical failure which is why the car is shutting off - entering limp mode, or the engine is failing. On April 9th through the 11th, 2026 my vehicle was inspected by a Hyundai dealership, where a technician identified a developing engine concern and advised me to continue driving the vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I am writing to formally document a serious, recurring safety defect in ou 2026 Hyundai Tucson hybrid, purchased less than a month ago. The vehicle has now exhibited multiple distinct dashboard warning faults related to the electronic shifter system, has left me stranded on more than one occasion, and has been sitting at schomp Hyundai in [xxx] , for the second time, for over one week, with no resolution. The dealership has been unable — or unwilling — to properly diagnose the issue despite photographic documentation of the active fault warnings and the existence of Hyundai-issued technical service bulletins directly addressing this problem. This letter serves as formal written notice pursuant to colorado's lemon law (c. R. S. § 42-10-101 et seq. Since taking delivery, I have experienced multiple occurrences of two distinct dashboard fault warnings on this vehicle. Both have been photographically documented with date-stamped images: • "shifter system malfunction! service immediately" — the vehicle became inoperable and could not shift gears, leaving me stranded. "park malfunction. Engage parking brake when parking vehicle. " — a secondary fault indicating failure of the electronic park system, creating a serious safety hazard. These faults are not related to any collision or external damage. They are pre-existing manufacturing defects that began occurring in the first week of purchase. Notably, this is a known and documented issue affecting Hyundai Tucson hybrid models. Hyundai has issued technical service bulletins TSB #21-at-007h and TSB #21-at-009h. I drove the vehicle approximately 8 times (including to and from the repair center) and have had the issue multiple times. I am formally requesting the following immediate actions: • direct the dealership to perform a complete gds historical dtc scan per TSB #21-at-007h and #21-at-009h and provide full written results. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The problem first appeared after I bought my car to the dealership to replace an amplifier. Since then, my car has been there twice and they have not been able to identify the problem. I’m going back-and-forth with the dealership and Hyundai corporation. After numerous incidents with my other vehicles, I no longer trust this place to repair and at this time it’s a safety issue while I’m driving. I work in a school district in [xxx] when the kids are around I need my front and back up cameras to work. It’s a safety concern for me and I need your advice. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I’d like to file a complaint regarding Hyundai recall#290, a potential fire hazard with my cars “trailer wiring harness accessory module”, which Hyundai has not offered a remedy at this time. I spoke to Hyundai’s customer service representative yesterday (3/18/26) about this recall that’s now over a month old, and asked if I could get reimbursed for my out of pocket costs to remove the hitch’s wiring at a Hyundai dealership. The rep said Hyundai won’t pay for my out of pocket cost to remove the harness wiring because they don’t have an official “remedy” yet. My local Hyundai dealership said the cost to unplug/remove the wiring would be about $200, which in my opinion would solve the problem and certainly is a “remedy”. Hyundai refuses to reimburse me this cost even though they have a Hyundai recall reimbursement program for out of pocket expenses due to recall issues. My complaint: 1 - Hyundai has failed to provide a no cost recall remedy within a reasonable period of time. 2 - if I choose to pay for removal of the wiring, my out of pocket cost of $200 will not be reimbursed by Hyundai. 3 - Hyundai’s recall says I could continue to drive my 2024 Hyundai Tucson, but apparently if the car gets wet, the wiring could ignite and cause a fire, which I’m not very comfortable with. 4 - I don’t use the trailer harness module at all since I bought the car used from the original owner, so removing the entire harness would be a reasonable solution and allay the fire risk. Thank you.
I am submitting this complaint regarding Hyundai safety recall #290 (NHTSA recall no. 25v893) as it applies to my vehicle, VIN [xxx] . I received the official recall notice by mail on February 13, 2026. The recall identifies a defect involving the tow hitch wiring harness control module, which may allow water intrusion. According to the recall documentation, this defect can cause inoperative stop lamps and, in rare cases, an electrical short that could result in overheating or a vehicle fire. Since receiving the notice, I have contacted Hyundai motor America corporate customer care three separate times seeking escalation and guidance on how to safely address this recall. During each call, Hyundai stated that no repair solution, parts availability, or timeline exists for remedying the defect. Despite the recall involving a documented fire risk and potential brake/stop lamp failure, Hyundai representatives advised me that I could continue driving the vehicle while waiting indefinitely for a remedy. No interim safety measures, inspections, alternative repairs, or mitigation steps were offered. I am concerned that Hyundai is failing to properly execute a federally mandated safety recall and is placing consumers in the position of operating vehicles with known, unresolved safety defects. Being advised to continue driving under these circumstances creates a risk to vehicle occupants and to other motorists. I am requesting that NHTSA review Hyundai’s handling of recall #290, specifically regarding recall remedy delays, lack of escalation, and failure to mitigate an acknowledged safety risk, and take any enforcement or compliance action deemed appropriate. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When my wife was driving our car on the highway today to work, the car suddenly threw a "check hybrid system - pullover safely" light when she was at highway speeds. She was able to luckily pull over quickly onto the shoulder before the car completely powered down. This is incredibly dangerous. She had to click on the reset 12 volt hybrid battery button in the car to get it started again but the complete loss of power at highway speed was very upsetting.
Following the knock sensor detection system update, this car has a p1326 code that forces it into limp mode. Occurs during moderate-hard acceleration, e. G. Getting on a highway. The car is limited to ?2000 rpm and ? 45 mph, and rapidly decelerates to that speed if necessary. Acceleration is very limited. This occurs roughly every two weeks, despite having a brand new sensor installed by Hyundai. Hyundai has also allegedly performed cleaning on the sensor and related parts. This has been going on since November, when the recall that installed this update was performed.
