The headlights turn off and on on their own when it is set to auto. I have worked with Hyundai, and engineering has confirmed that they have had several cases where the sensor malfunctions and turned the headlights off and on. It is incredibly dangerous as this happens at night and during the day.

My 2019 Hyundai Tucson limited model has obstructed illumination from the headlights. If I shine my headlights on the garage wall in front of me I will see a half moon shadow over each headlight. While driving on dark country roads at night around a curve you will see two shadows out in front of you. As you come out of the curve those shadows become one triangular shadow out in front of you. It is hard to determine if this is a person, animal or the headlight shadow. Also, when there is a dip in the road the illumination is decreased to maybe 40 feet in front of you. Sometimes it just looks like a dark band in front of you. You never have a clear view, always a shadow. In town at night with light around you don't notice the shadows as much. This is dangerous to have such an obstructed view and to sometimes almost want to follow the movement of the shadows instead of the road. I drive a lot at night on dark country roads and always on the look out for an animal. If you shine your lights on bright it is not as bad, but you can't keep your brights on all the time. I have spoken with Hyundai consumer affairs and they just say it's in the design. It may be in the design, but the design is dangerous. Who is going to step up to protect the consumer. I have never been in a car with such poor illumination. I feel very nervous and unsafe driving this vehicle at night. Love the car in the day. Thankfully, I have not had an accident, but feel that something should be done to correct this problem. I had to select a date this happened but it is continuous. I bought the car 8/30/19, but didn't drive at night until 9/5/19,.

We bought a brand new 2018 Hyundai Tucson in June 2018. It had 1700+ miles on it in November 2018. We have a major problem with the headlights, which we noted recently while driving on some dark roads. We can't see down the road when we are driving on dark roads. We can't see bends in the road ahead of us. The headlights shine out about 30 feet, then it's pitch black after that. We have a difficult time just finding the entrance to our driveway. We are afraid to drive at night because it's so dangerous. The car has been taken in to the dealer twice & we are taking it back for the 3rd time. This is a major safety issue. The headlights are not doing the job & the dealer can't seem to fix it. After looking online, this seems to be a major problem with Hyundai & other brands with the new led lights. This needs to be on a recall list. Please help. Accident prevention is cheaper than a funeral. You need to investigate this. Thank you.
Bought the car new from dealer this past may. Car is equipped with high intensity discharge headlights with dynamic bending light. We have not done much night driving until recently we drove on the open highway where there wasn't much surrounding light. When turning around a curve in the highway there was a black band across the pavement approximately 100 feet in front of us and the extending well past the edge of pavement. When we got back in town driving down a residential street, the solid black rectangle appeared a couple of hundred feet in front of the car and appeared to be to 2-3 feet in height. When we drove through a more lighted area there was no solid black rectangle, but it appeared somewhat gray with 2 inverted half-moon shaped dark spots seemingly in line with the headlights. The Hyundai service manager showed us another car, and it had the same issue with the headlights. It is a very dangerous condition and apparently is coming from the alignment of the dynamic bending light housing. Nighttime vision is severely impaired on our vehicle.
The visibility at night is impaired due to the hid headlights. In researching the issue, I see where there are several other complaints on the same thing. This is a dangerous situation to be driving at night with limited visibility. Adjusting the headlights do not seem to be an improvement. The other night, my lights went completely dark while driving. This definitely deserves a notification/recall to the owners of these vehicles before there is a deadly accident. Please do the responsible thing in order to prevent impairing or losing a life.
Headlights project a weird dark shadow on both sides and it makes it very difficult to see in front of me just off center on both sides. This is a very dangerous situation to not feel safe enough to see the road ahead of me.
All Hyundai limited model trims have poor bulb housings for their headlights. There is a notch in the housing that covers the top part of the bulb and casts a large shadow in front of the vehicle, making driving at night a serious safety problem. I've already contacted the dealer and was told it was a known problem and that Hyundai has yet to do anything about it. I've attached two photos showing the shadow/notch on each headlight. Keep in mind my vehicle has only 295 miles, and I just bought it a couple days ago. My wife is afraid to drive at night because she's afraid she won't be able to see something in front of her. There needs to be an investigation launched because it's only a matter of time until a serious injury is caused as a result of poor lighting and negligence on part of the auto manufacturer.
The headlight system in this vehicle at low and high beam casts a shadow about 100 feet in front. This causes a severe blind spot in front of the driver. In rainy weather it is doubly hard to see what issues face the driver. In fact I almost hit someone walking on the side of the road in rainy weather because they were not visible until they were inside the 100 feet. The lighting system must be replaced as the dealer has advised there is no adjustments they can make to overcome this issue. There have been many complaints to the dealer about it according to him.
3 outside and 3 inside door handles have broken off. Motor for electronic windows [driver, front passenger and rear passenger] all quit working within a week of each other. And no, it wasn't fuses. Headlight housing, passenger side is breaking inside the housing.

I purchased a Hyundai Tucson in sepember of 2016 new. I noticed right away that I could not see very well at night. The headlights are aimed at the ground 2-3 car lengths in front of the bumper. With the high beams on you can see the definite line between light and dark approx 4-5 car lengths in front of the bumper. When cars are approaching on an undivided road, the visibility is reduced even more from the glare of the oncoming lights. I have had 2 close calls where I almost hit a pedestrian walking on the edge of the road with dark clothes on. I have taken the vehicle to autofair Hyundai in manchester, nh on two occasions to have the headlights adjusted to correct the problem. I quote the response,"customer would like us to adjust the headlights, states he can not see at night, can see if we can adjust them, misc per state law we cannot adjust the headlights above where they are currently. 6686 isp" the insurance institute for highway safety's evaluations says "manufacturers aren't paying enough attention to the actual on-road performance of the basic equipment,we're optimistic that improvements will come quickly now that we've given automakers something to strive for. " for 2017, vehicles will need good or acceptable headlights in order to qualify for the institute's highest award, top safety pick+. That's real nice of them. What happens to my 2016 model? I want my vehicle recalled and repaired. Why should I have to wait and be forced to buy a 2017 model in order to have a safe car at night?.
The contact owns a 2005 Hyundai Tucson. While parked, the contact noticed that the headlight lens had become discolored. The illumination of the headlights was dimmed by the discoloration of the lens making it difficult for the contact to see the roadway when driving at night. The contact cleaned the lens but the failure recurred. Additionally, the contact noticed that the plastic inside the headlight was melted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The headlight lenses have not just oxidized as is common with vehicles that have plastic lenses. The material actually has hairline cracks running throughout. That defect, coupled with the oxidation that no amount of polishing has been able to remedy makes the brightness of even the best replacement bulbs less safe for nighttime operation. The dealer and Hyundai USA both refused to offer a remedy.
