Car engine seized and lost all power going 60mph down the highway at night with my child in the back seat. I have poured quarts and quarts of oil in this vehicle because it burns oil at an alarming rate until it eventually runs dry and the engine seizes. This is extremely dangerous and luckily my child and I were able to drift to the side of the road without harm and injury. Very discouraging that there are thousands of these cars and engines on the road that can literally seize up at any minute. Maintenance was performed and kept up with. The oil pressure light had been flashing when the vehicle turned but was flashing even when oil had just been changed. These engines are dangerous and have people in a financial hard spot. I still owe $16k on a car I can no longer drive and that Hyundai is saying due to owner maintenance will not get an engine replacement. The facebook group Hyundai oil consumption test has thousands of people dealing with the same exact issue on these cars and engines.

My wife was slowly pulling into a parking spot, when at about 10ft from curb the car suddenly accelerated faster than she even thought the car even was capable of (the awd likely helped). It hopped the curb and hit a tree. She backed it up to the parking spot (it acted normally) and had it towed to dealer. In hindsight, the car had been having a progressive amount and frequency of delay in normal acceleration, sometimes having a pause of up to second or two from pedal input to car response. We asked the dealer to check the edr (event data recorder). The tech first said he didn't even know what that was, then that he checked with all his fellow techs and they didn't know either, then the story changed to the model not having an edr. We politely told him which page in the Hyundai manual he can find it, and he refused to look, as did his boss. Car was transferred to a body shop, and disposition was to total the vehicle. While the body shop was still evaluating the car, we contacted a second dealer, who said they don't have a reader. I inspected the floormats before the car was towed, as that was an initial suspect, but it was locked in and clearly there was no obstruction. She was wearing tennis shoes and doesn't recall ever having an instance of hitting the wrong pedal in any vehicle. She thinks she was only coasting, not even touching the brake yet.

On [xxx], my 2025 Hyundai Tucson hybrid displayed a red dashboard alert instructing me to “stop vehicle and check brake system. ” the vehicle experienced brake system warnings and a loss of power steering, requiring me to pull over. I immediately contacted Hyundai through the bluelink system, and the bluelink operator confirmed that multiple fault codes were visible in Hyundai’s system. I scheduled a Hyundai service appointment at the next available date. On [xxx], before the scheduled service appointment could occur, the vehicle experienced a sudden and total electrical failure while traveling at highway speed (approximately 65 mph). The vehicle lost propulsion and displayed brake system warnings. After reaching the shoulder, the vehicle also lost hazard lights while disabled in heavy rain. The vehicle was towed via Hyundai bluelink to a Hyundai dealership and removed from service. The occupants at the time of the incident included my wife and my minor child. The loss of propulsion, braking warnings, power steering, and hazard lights created a serious risk of a rear-end collision and injury. Due to repeated and escalating safety-related failures involving electrical, braking, and steering systems, I no longer consider the vehicle safe to operate. When getting onto the highway on November 30, 2025, the engine on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson made an odd sound, acceleration was compromised and the check engine light came on. My husband was driving and he safely navigated us off the highway and back to our home via city streets. We were very concerned we were going to break down on the highway or city street during a cold time of year. The next day we had the vehicle towed to a local auto service center and they diagnosed the problem as a failed fuel injector. They stated this was a known issue by Hyundai. The auto service center ordered the fuel injector kit to make the repair, but they were only allowed to repair the failed fuel injector, not all of them. I'm concerned another fuel injector will fail. If Hyundai knows about the fuel injector issue why haven't they issued a recall?.
Spark plugs have been replaced twice- fuel injectors cleaned and now I have another misfire in cylinder 3 and have to replace all four fuel injectors.

While driving on the interstate at highway speed, my 2017 Hyundai Tucson lost power without any warning lights or prior symptoms. The vehicle experienced an immediate loss of propulsion while I was traveling in traffic, creating a dangerous situation because surrounding vehicles were also moving at highway speed & I had to quicky maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder with no power. The vehicle had approximately 73,861 miles at the time of the failure. After the incident, the vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership and diagnosed with a burned exhaust valve requiring replacement of the cylinder head & valve. The estimated cost of repair provided by the dealership was approximately 7550. The vehicle had no prior warning lights or symptoms before the sudden loss of power. A sudden engine failure resulting in loss of propulsion at highway speed presents a serious safety risk to both the driver and surrounding traffic. This was an extremely dangerous failure.
Car started stalling and misfiring. When I took the vehicle for service they said it was a known issue and they were replacing all 4 fuel injectors. This was my wife’s car. About a year and a half ago the same thing happened to my 2022 Hyundai Tucson n-line. I have googled around and found many many issues of the same thing happening on 2022 Tucsons.
While driving our 2022 Hyundai Tucson limited with the 2. 5l engine and about 39,000 miles, the check engine light suddenly came on. Right away the car started behaving strangely. The throttle response became jerky and uneven, and when idling the engine ran at a higher rpm than normal and sounded off. The vehicle also struggled to accelerate, which made it feel unsafe to drive. Thankfully this happened while we were not on the highway, but if it had occurred while merging or keeping up with traffic, it could have been dangerous. Even in city driving, the jerky response and slower acceleration created risk. What would normally be a safe turn across or into traffic could easily have turned into a slower, delayed turn and a potential accident. When we got home, I checked the code and it said it was a cylinder misfire on cylinder 3. The car had been regularly serviced at the dealer and had never shown signs of this issue before. Based on the symptoms, I suspect it may be related to the fuel injectors, but we haven’t been able to get the vehicle in for inspection because local dealers are backed up. One dealer even told us it was fine to keep driving as long as the check engine light wasn’t blinking, which feels concerning given the way the car is performing.
I just bought this car back in February. It has 50k miles on it. Five minutes after starting it, and in the middle of a busy road, my accelerator suddenly stopped working, my car started shaking, and then it died. My dash lit up and it turns out, it was an issue with the factory fuel injectors.
I know there is a re-call for my vehicles engine and year with model. I am having serious issues with my vehicle related to the recalls for the same year and model. I feel unsafe driving my vehicle and now I do not know what to do.
My car on the expressway wouldn't go over 40 and this was happening intermittently so my car was unsafe. No check engine light but it was just at the dealership for an oil change. Has. Been an ongoing problem since I bought the car! smells, gets hot!.

All four gdi injectors failed resulting in the car completely stopping on the highway.
Fuel injectors failed after 4 years of having the car. This led to misfiring, shaking of car, and complete shut down of car within 10 seconds of starting the vehicle.
Driving on interstate 64 in southern indiana approximately 70 mph in left lane when engine died without any warning signs. Was able to safely maneuver vehicle to shoulder without incident. Paid to have the vehicle towed 60 miles to Hyundai dealer. Dealer stated engine failure was due to injector issue known by Hyundai as a technical issue was released.
I've taken the vehicle to several mechanics for engine-idling when turning, going up-hill. I've purchased new plugs, lines, engine cleaners, no-one can figure it out. The oil now has engine shavings even though the oil was recently changed. The car broke down today.
As I was driving I was stopped & told my car was on fire. I immediately stopped & hopped out & less than 30 seconds later half of the hood caught heat/fire & flew into the windshield breaking it. At least half the car is burnt to ashes.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? cylinder 4 fuel injector failed while driving 70 mph down the highway. The dealer or manufacturer will have the faulty parts for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? loss of power and acceleration put me and others at risk; I could not go over 40 mph on the highway, the car was lurching the entire time. Inattentive drivers being the main concern, with low speeds and driving/sitting still on the shoulder of the road. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, the dealership I had it towed to confirmed the injector failed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the manufacturer is aware of the issue. There is a TSB issued that asks the dealer to send the faulty parts back to them. They are fully aware of the issue and are choosing to replace faulty parts with equally faulty parts. The dealer told me the replacement injectors “are not supposed to have the factory defect” but confirmed they are the same parts. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes, the engine light came on and I lost power/acceleration simultaneously.
Two separate times over the last year I’ve had a fuel injector go bad after using the auto start feature in semi colder temperatures. I’m not sure if the auto start has something to do with it but seems to be a cold weather issue.
Vehicle propulsion system failed, as a result vehicle rolled down an inclined driveway in to the street and was stuck in the middle on the street in traffic. Vehicle had started normally, was able to shift into drive, no obvious warning lights or error messages displayed. Vehicle would shift into drive/park/reverse as required but would not move. Upon shutdown an restart two warning lights were display but vehicle would still not move. Vehicle only had 168 miles on the odometer. Vehicle is a hybrid, engine was running and battery charged. Apparently the problem was a failed "over the air software update", this was corrected by dealer (see attached file). Safety issue is that the vehicle, 1 failed to display any error regarding a failed update, 2 failed to immobilize the vehicle allowing to move in an unsafe state, 3 failed to notify owner that updates had been done, 4 proceeded with an over thew air update that could potentially place the vehicle in an unsafe state.
Engine was replaced but car kept sputtering only to find out the fuel injectors needing replacement.
The vehicle is experiencing excessive oil consumption and increasingly severe engine performance symptoms. The oil level drops rapidly between changes, but the loss is not due to external leaks. The engine burns oil internally, causing residue buildup and damage to other components — specifically the intake manifold and catalytic converter, which the dealer has now recommended replacing. These issues align with the symptoms addressed in Hyundai campaign 966 (engine monitoring / knock sensor detection system), which is intended to detect early bearing wear and related oil consumption defects. However, the dealership refused to perform the required campaign diagnostics (bearing inspection, ksds verification, and oil-consumption test) without charging a diagnostic fee. Even though the engine has not yet fully failed or entered limp mode, the excessive oil consumption is already causing secondary damage to emissions and intake components. If left unresolved, this can escalate to engine seizure, catalytic converter overheating, or exhaust-related fires due to unburned oil entering the converter. These are clear safety hazards that can result in loss of power, smoke, or fire while driving. Multiple Hyundai owners have reported identical problems — excessive oil loss, residue damage to emission systems, and dealer refusals to perform campaign 966 inspections. These patterns indicate a systemic engine defect that leads to downstream component failures, not isolated wear. Replacing the manifold or converter does not correct the root cause, as oil consumption continues after replacement and will likely damage new parts. The dealer’s refusal to perform the manufacturer’s required diagnostics and their attempt to charge for unrelated repairs prevent proper defect identification. This is a serious and ongoing safety issue affecting Hyundai Tucson and other models with the same engine family.

My vehicle was purchased new and has less than 5100 miles on it. The screen and heads-up display randomly begin to glitch and then simply go dark. I can't see my speed, fuel or charge levels or any important data while driving. This has happened multiple times already. My vehicle is a 2025 model. Interestingly, Hyundai had the same type issue on 2024 models and issued a TSB to resolve this issue, but have not issued any repair for the 2025 models. This is a major safety issue.
It’s been three years now and I had “brake system failure” happened two times in 3 years. When traveling the brake system warning appears and while driving, and stopped at sign brake releases slightly and car would start to move unless I apply brakes firmly again. When slowing down at traffic lights holding the brake doesn’t bring car to complete stop. I had apply brake, slightly release and then apply again until car comes to full stop. I was told they need to replace ieb module and brake pedal module replacement. I checked in reddit and other platforms where users had seen the issue multiple times on their vehicles. Also had an issue with fuel system like replacement of egr valve which seems to be common on multiple vehicles.
My 2017 Hyundai Tucson limited 1. 6l turbo (with 7-speed ecoshift dct) has ongoing transmission problems. The vehicle hesitates, jolts, and sometimes fails to accelerate from a stop, which creates a serious safety risk when entering traffic or crossing intersections. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the Hyundai dealership in fairfield, CT. They diagnosed the transmission and recommended a complete replacement at a cost of over $7,000. This issue matches the defect described in NHTSA recall 16v628000 and Hyundai service campaign t1b, which involved the same 7-speed ecoshift dct in 2016–2017 Tucson models. However, my VIN was not included even though I am experiencing the exact same safety defect. No warning lamps appeared before the hesitation/judder began. The safety risk is significant because the vehicle can fail to accelerate as expected in traffic, increasing the chance of a crash.
Taken car to work, driving down highway check engine light come on with loss of power. Took to dealership reported cylinder number 3 fuel injector was stuck open. Replaced all 4 injectors. Found TSB for it.
While driving my car to virginia to see my daughter, the oil light came on in the middle of a highway, where the speed limit was 70, the car slowed down and I had to pull off to the shoulder as the car lost all acceleration, making it very dangerous on a highway I waited for about 2 hours for a tow truck I waited for almost 2 months to get my car back and it happened again after having it back for a little over a week mind you, I bought the car brand new with 45 miles on it and the first problem happened a little over 2 weeks after I bought it hopefully this can be resolved so that my car doesn’t spend more time being serviced than me driving it.
My 2023 Hyundai tuscon has 36000 miles. Started running rough with a slight noise. First noticed on wed [xxx]. On Thursday [xxx] I went to start my car and it stalled. Finally after letting it sit a few minutes it started but only to have the sgi light flash yellow and stay yellow for the remainder of the drive. That day I made an appt at my local Hyundai dealership in brandon florida. They kept my car. Fast forward, Monday September 15th I was notified that the car had lost a significant amount of oil. Car was inspected and free of any leaks. Tech stated because of the low oil & oil pressure the battery life was significantly impacted. I would need an oil change & new battery. Upon arriving back I came across an article stating that excessive oil consumption is common among these vehicles and the dealer wasn't even going to notify me of this issue. They were not honest and I want to file a formal complaint knowing that this is well known issue. I feel unsafe driving my children around and am upset that a recall has not been issued to fix this. Hyundai has a known issue with gdi fuel injectors. Car begins to shake and lose power and eventually will stall due to cylinder misfire caused by defective injectors.
Stopped accelerating/disabled in the middle of interstate during rush hour traffic.
While almost at a complete stop in the process of putting my 2019 Hyundai Tucson in park at my friends home to drop her off, the car involuntarily surged/accelerated forward over a cement curbing and landscaping timber and slide down a small incline into a tree and landscaping boulder! after looking on line concerning the malfunction it seems there are abundant claims from other 2017-2019 Hyundai Tucson owners that have experienced this exact mechanical defect under this frightening description of a surge or acceleration out of the drivers control! it's the craziest, scariest thing ever. We have taken the car in for a recall concerning the check engine light regarding the catalytic converter prior to this incident. The car is well cared for and maintained and has never been in any accident.
I went to fill up the gas and the gas cap door would not open. The gas station attendant tried to help with no luck. I drove to the dealer - the fuel release actuator had failed. Part was replaced under warranty. I am lucky I had enough gas to get to the dealer. Very scary when you can’t put gas in your car!.
Fuel injector failure. Car was losing power completely when pressing the gas pedal then would suddenly catch and go again. Then go very slowly with little power, almost got into an accident because of the loss of acceleration. They replaced the fuel injectors and it is now happening a second time with the check engine light coming on again. A recall needs to be made! several of the same complaints on here!!!!!!!.
The high pressure fuel line began leaking gasoline after warrantee replacement of engine.

I am submitting this complaint due to repeated and dangerous fuel injector failures on my 2022 Hyundai Tucson. This is the third time this issue has occurred in less than three years of ownership. •first incident: my vehicle broke down on the side of the road while I was 10 hours away from home in florida. This left me stranded and required towing and repairs. •second incident: the fuel injectors failed again, though fortunately closer to my home. •third and most recent incident: the same issue happened again, this time with my wife driving—a major safety concern. We purchased this vehicle specifically to avoid breakdowns like this and for the safety and reliability it was supposed to provide. This recurring failure is unacceptable for a newer vehicle and poses a significant safety risk to my family and other drivers. Fuel injector failure can lead to stalling in traffic or on highways, increasing the potential for accidents. I urge NHTSA to investigate this matter, as it appears to be a systemic issue with this model and could lead to serious harm if not addressed.
